Came here for the first time with my family. We ordered the kids burger, moco salad and the rock fish. The burger was cooked medium well and juicy. The bun was soft and warm. The fries were crispy. This place knows how to make a burger. Keep in mind this was just a kids burger, I'd like to try one of their signature burgers next time, but I'm going to say you won't be disappointed here. The moco salad was colorful and very delicious. The rock fish was also pretty good. I ordered this with a side of veggies. Overall the burger was our favorite. My partner lives all the 'plant based' options, which is the main reason we frequent this place... My family and I had a wonderful celebration and brunch at restaurant 198 on January 1st, 2025. The food, atmosphere, and service was excellent! We were a party of 20 and they were able to handle the service and food beautifully. The food was delivered hot and presentation was lovely. I strongly recommend coming to restaurant 198. Went on a pretty busy Sunday around 12:30. Good things- Large space with plenty of seating. 3 piece band was playing but quietly enough to talk over. A dedicated vegan (plant-based) menu* (This raised them a star and was the reason we drove there from Greenbelt) Friendly staff Not great things- Really really slow on the food side of things. We felt like we lost a good part of our day just trying to get lunch. My wife ordered a crispy tofu sandwich that looked good but was frozen cold in the middle. Manager comped us and remade the sandwich which we appreciated but that also took a long time. Kitchen and wait staff seemed to maybe not be seeing eye to eye. Some small (and quiet but not invisible) squabbles on the floor. We almost got served the wrong food. Coke was served in a small glass- not a very big deal but didn't seem to fit what I expected. We won't go way out of our way to try again but we will when we're withinh 15-20 minutes because we really do appreciate their vegan offerings very much. I had never heard of this restaurant but when a friend invited me I tagged along. The service was OK, we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table and they informed us that only 3 credit cards could be taken regardless of party size. We ordered our food and waited another 40 minutes for it to arrive, but I chalk that up to our party being a bit larger and the restaurant not being accustomed to serving larger parties. However, the food was aggressively average as you can see in the pic below. I ordered steak and eggs with cheese. I got overcooked steak, overcooked eggs (with no cheese) and the wrong toast. Also a glass of water with some black particulate at the bottom. I didn't say anything about the food but asked for a change in water. The restaurant itself is a nice family joint, but I probably would pick Ihop or Denny's over them next time. read more

Went a few weeks ago for brunch on a Sunday. Service was slow and our food didn't come out all together. We had a party of six. Got an omelette with the breakfast potatoes. The omelette was rather small and the potatoes were very bland. Didn't come with any toast. Our water glasses and coffee mugs sat empty. Weren't asked if we wanted any refills. The restaurant was very clean and I would give it another try since others in our party enjoyed their food. read more

First time here since the change over from Seible's. Tried the Orzo w/ mushrooms and spinach and while it was tasty, I was expecting more spinach and mushrooms. When it's a vegetarian dish without any protein, you expect the vegetables to be plentiful and that was not the case here. For $14.95 I expect more than just well seasoned orzo with a flourish of veggies. The main issue was with the amount of time it took for the food to arrive. We dined at 6 PM on a Friday and were one of three parties seated. It was easily 25 minutes before our food arrived. Again, we're just talking about orzo and some vegetables here so it shouldn't be that time consuming. At times it looked like there would be four or five employees hovering around the kitchen area just kind of hanging out. Perhaps they were a bit overstaffed for that time of day. I was never a fan of Seible's. The food was mediocre and highly overpriced. Based on this one meal, I'd say the food quality has improved and our server was very polite and attentive but I would need to be assurance that they are working on efficiency in the kitchen before I would be tempted to come back. read more

While I am glad to see something new came in to this neighborhood staple, I wasn't particularly blown away by the menu, service or atmosphere. That said it's a decent local spot to gather with a group of family or friends. The bar is roomy and the menu is diverse enough that just about everyone can find something. I was pleased to see several vegan/vegetarian options, which can be hard to come by in this area. There is a standard kids menu, but kids also eat free on Monday's. It seems like the staff may be new and didn't have many recommendations and had trouble sorting out sections on a very quiet Sunday. Looking forward to giving this place another shot soon! read more

We've been wanting to try this place for awhile. It's a great addition to the area. The banana cream stuffed French toast was amazing as were the juevos rancheros. We have gone a few times for breakfast and it has been delicious. When you ask for a side of bacon, it comes super crispy!

It was my first time coming and definitely will be returning soon. My experience with our waiter, I believe his name was Aidan or Alex or something like that was spectacular. He kept checking up on us, making sure our drinks and food were good and he was very attentive and caring. The food here is amazing and I will definitely be coming back for the Mac burger. The food was cooked perfectly as I asked it to be and the flavors were some of the best I have had in a long time. If I could rate higher than 5 stars I definitely would. read more

We need 198 to make it; let's help them! There is an experienced management team. There seemed to be real interest in our satisfaction dining there. Excellent menu, with surprisingly ample vegan offerings. The bar seems a little skimpy; only three Scotches. Service really needs improvement. My steak and my wife's cob salad were both excellent. Live music on a Friday evening was just right: pleasing to the ear but not overwhelming of table conversation. C'mon Burtonsville, support Restaurant 198; this is a dining option we need! Let's go for at least 4 stars and then 5 by St. Patrick's Day! But they need to hear from all of us, and they need encouragement from all of us. read more

I was part of a large (12) group for breakfast. Our group eats at this rest. every few weeks. Separate checks have always been accommodated. 1. This time, we were told AFTER we all ordered that they would only allow a max. of 5 checks for the entire table. When the issue of no prior notice was brought to the attn of the manager, she agreed to "waive" that rule "just this one time." 2. When the bills (checks) came - they were incorrect. (I.e. one person rec'd a bill for $149.00!) 3. Despite doing her best, the server (possibly new) had great difficulty in sorting out the orders. The manager was aware of this and made NO attempt to assist. 4. Payments revealed more complexities and one person in our party finally just paid extra just to end the torture for us and the server. Again -- NO assistance or involvement was given by the "manager" So -- larger parties - beware!!! read more

Surprisingly good drinks including a coconut margarita that was awesome. We love having a place nearby run by local folks. Young folks without much experience serve you but they are kind and do fine. My husband and I decided to try this place out. We have been to Seibels a few times and was never impressed with the food. What a huge difference the food is! It was amazing! I had the House Cheeseburger on a brioche bun. They used butter lettuce and what a difference it made. The burger was spot on and very juicy. I also ordered the Burtonsville Moscow Mule and the drink was excellent. The fresh mint actually smelled like they pulled it from the garden right before serving the drink. My husband ordered the cheesesteak and he was very impressed. I was able to steal a bite and it was very good. The french fries were cooked to perfection. The fresh creamy coleslaw had a different taste than typical coleslaw. When you try it for the first time, its a surprise taste, but so very good. I was stealing bites from my husbands coleslaw and he was stealing my fries. We will definitely be going back. I'm hoping this restaurant does well. I was very excited to go to breakfast with family. We were going to scope out the location for a small get together we are planning. They have a really nice outdoor patio but I was very disappointed in the food we received. First off, I always order my daughter's food first so she can start eating since it takes her a little longer and she gets grumpy waiting. We ordered coffee which came out cold. It was weird because the cups were warm, we concluded they must gave just come out the dishwasher. We requested another cup since the coffee was cold. The next cup came out steaming and when we took a sip it was only luke warm. I just ended up drinking water. When our food came out it was cold. The potatoes were cold and eggs were warm at best. When we asked for condiments she went to grab a basket. My opinion this should have been brought to the table in preparation of the food coming out. At this point my daughter's food hadn't come out which was weird because it was just 1 pancake. When I pointed it out to the waitress she just said yes I know I'm bringing it now. No apologies seeing as I deliberately told her that I ordered it first so it would come out first. Pancake finally came out and it was just a little warm. If it was a fresh hot pancake the whipped cream would have been melting. Not sure if we'll be back. read more
