Lack luster. Just ate here and was super disappointed. Ambiance is super cute and service was great, but food is where we were lacking. The gem salad was covered in cheese and buttermilk to the point where it was overpowered by the buttermilk. Gem lettuce salads are supposed to be light and fresh. The artichokes, while tasted good, could be from a jar and covered in too much cheese. We thought the burrata would be a good touch with it, but honestly it didn't make sense. The rib eye was cooked well but slightly over salted and not the best cut of meat for the price tag. The chimmichurri (sp?) was just not. It was dried herbs in olive oil LOL. Tasted like pizza seasoning. The stand out of the dish were the fries. The mushroom polenta was decent. Mushrooms were coated in too much Parmesan. Other than that, it's really hard to mess up polenta. Really wanted to like this place because it's so cute, but the food needs a lot of work. read more

10/10 for our experience at Kinsley Hotel, including the restaurant. You know the warm and relaxed feeling you get while eating an excellent meal? Well Kinsley's atmosphere, drinks, and food ease you into that feeling almost as soon as you walk through the door. The items on the menu, while simple are excellent. Whipped ricotta and duck rilletes, yes please! Honestly every bit of our 2 night stay at the Kinsley hotel was excellent-- the refurbished buildings (housing the hotels and restaurant) are beautifully done and so importantly, the bed was very very comfortable. Beautiful decor and delicious meal overall. We had the strawberry cocktail and a Manhattan to drink, both very good. We started with the scallops (fresh and well cooked) and the polenta with mushrooms (earthy, flavorful, and delicious decreed two people who don't normally like mushrooms). We have eaten at Kinsley several times since it opened. The addition of Hotel Kinsley and their restaurant was celebrated and the quality of service and food was cut above. We just went back and were utterly disappointed. Waited 45minutes for drinks Waited 2 hours for our meal Our order was lost by the waiter Our waiter never came back after taking our order nor did any manager to explain what was happening Other patrons just left as we were all in the same situation and confused Kudos to a really nice host who did everything in his power to help us. Every single thing that touched our lips was absolutely delicious! And our server, Rebecca was a gem and provided personal and warm service! We had the gem salad with trout, deviled eggs, levain bread, excellent, organic wine, and sticky toffee pudding to die for. The latest proof that Kingston is now a borough of NYC; Brooklyn North. The former Bank of New York building has been transformed into a very hip, comfortable restaurant with a boutique hotel above. The small kitchen is glass enclosed and part of the dining room. George Harrison graces the soaring wall above the fireplace and a classic rock soundtrack plays in the background. We started with a round of well made martinis. The menu, like the kitchen, is small. But it's well executed. The appetizers like brandade croquettes, whipped ricotta with focaccia, bagna coda vegetables, lamb meatballs and a satiny chicken liver pate are all wonderful. Share them with your table mates! Entrees include a crisp skinned Arctic char, a generous lobster salad, a Sicilian style pasta with swordfish and a couple of vegetarian options, a strip steak and chicken. Desserts like a perfect pot de chocolate and key lime tart are wonderful endings along with a great cup of coffee. The wine list has some interesting choices and several reasonably priced bottles. There's beer and ciders and wines by the glass as well. Service is relaxed but professional; something many upstate diners don't usually get to experience. There's a small barroom in the back, which is usually busy and where a local or two holds court. Kinsley is a welcome addition to Kingston's ever growing restaurant scene and along with Wildebeest across the street, this may raise the bar for future restaurants in town. I'd hope the small menu changes, at least with the seasons, but otherwise The Kingsley's a winner. read more

I don't like leaving bad reviews of restaurants.. but if I were to base this off of just this one meal I would actually leave 1 to 2 stars . I've had some good meals here, but why do so many's restaurants feel the need to lazily throw some Asian dishes on their menus? 24$ for a ramen, with no protein, which is not the issue, but I'm trying to understand what could possibly warrant the price.. It was cold, with a bland broth, with a couple slices of the same radishes many other dishes were garnished with, There was nothing resembling like the depth of flavor and ingredients that ramen is known for. This place is an excellent addition to the comeback of uptown Kingston. A great space in an old bank. Good vibe in a big space with very high ceilings. No complaints about anything at all. The chicken liver pate was a real standout...delish! Everyone is my party of 4 was more than happy with their entree. Pastas were excellent. The one with peas, pecorino and mint was 5*! I left a one star review last time I went about three years ago. I went back to see if anything had changed and it still is not worth going. The food is ok but the service is just not up to par. I had an entire drink spilled on me by the server and they didn't even think to comp the drink until I had to remind me that I had an entire martini dumped on my lap. Mistakes happen, and I actually don't blame the nice person that spilled the drink. I blame the management: If you are going to charge $25 for a burger, you need to train your staff to know how to deal. And you should also apologize to your customers and offer some compensation. We heard a lot of great things about the restaurant at Hotel Kinsley and were thrilled to go last night. We had high expectations - and they were all surpassed! As soon as you walk in, the beautiful decor and high ceilings catch your eye - we loved the ambiance (especially the natural light as the sun was going down ). Fantastic selection of unique cocktails and wine. And the food... wow. Everything was spot-on and delicious - we started with chickpea fries and crudite, followed by the summer vegetable curry and arctic char. The fish was cooked perfectly and one of the best I've (ever) had! Same with the curry - made with coconut milk and topped with fresh local veggies (a great vegetarian/vegan option). And just when we thought it couldn't get any better - we decided to go all in on dessert and got the blueberry sorbet and ice cream sandwich. That's right... a homemade ice cream sandwich dipped in strawberry chocolate. I'll be dreaming about that for awhile It's definitely our favorite new spot and we'll be going back soon (and bringing all our friends). Highly recommended! read more

I really enjoyed our meal here the other night. I started with their martini, which sounded scary on the menu (olive oil?) but turned out surprisingly classic in taste. We ordered the heirloom tomato and artichoke appetizers, both simple and delicious. I had a very good cheeseburger and my friends had the chicken and tilefish. Main courses were very good though perhaps on the small size. Good french fries! Not cheap but not crazy either, except maybe for the ribeye entree. Service was friendly, smooth, professional. I really wanted to like Hotel Kinsley, as I had heard good things. Unfortunately my experience fell short. My wife and I dined at Hotel Kinsley on Saturday September 30th 2023. Waitstaff was friendly and pleasant. However I ordered the bass and it was extremely stinky, not fresh at all. That's where things began to go downhill. We heard audible, aggressive screaming from the chef towards his kitchen staff more than once while we were dining. It completely ruined our evening and the atmosphere. It's safe to say we will never eat at Hotel Kinsley again. read more

We had some great cocktails and their wine list has a little bit of everything. Loved the burger and the lobster roll, the side of heirloom tomatoes was a nice addition. It was almost empty and they seemed to have enough staff, but staff seemed restrained by very specific duties that didn't align with what was needed. I love love love this place and am so happy they are hanging in there for us and will be there on the other end of this pandemic. This place is expensive, which I expect for a hotel restaurant, but the food does not live up to the price. We got there at 4:30 and were told it was lunch menu until 5, fine. We ordered a salad and deviled eggs while we waited. They were fine. For dinner I ordered a filet (this was in place of an other steak on the menu). I always order my steaks rare. When it arrived it was almost medium. I sent it back. It seemed like it took a long time--my wife had finished her trout (which was OK, not great). The waitress brought a plate which was the plate I sent back not the new steak. She apologized and went back to the kitchen for another 10 minutes. She stopped by and said the problem was the steak was medallions which were thin to it was hard to cook them rare. Finally, the new steak arrived, it looked like it had been a thick steak cut into 2 medallions after cooking. At least it looked rare. They served the mushroom sauce on the side so I could see the cook. For $55 I got a tough 10oz filet, mushroom sauce, mashed potatoes and roasted carrots. I've had a much better filet (and better sides) at Texas Roadhouse for half the price. When our $150 bill came, she commented that she took off the $16 Gem Salad. All-in-all the service was good as was some of the food. Nothing was outstanding or worth the price. read more

Service was great - only mistake was wrong dessert (very very small) was brought to the table The waitress gave it to us and said she would bring the correct dessert. 20 minutes later I had to ask for it and then it was finally brought they did take one of the cocktails off of our bill for the meal but I think it's a mis step when you serve such a fantastic meal and then don't get the dessert right. This place stood out among the other spots that we saw in Kingston, and we knew we were in for something unique before we stepped inside. The space is located in an old bank building, which I thought was pretty cool, and it was only converted to a hotel and restaurant recently. Really mixed experience here. We arrived a few minutes early and waited to be seated. The building is a former bank, so the ceiling is very high and the noise level fine. The furnishings are a mix of rather normal tables and chairs, some sofas, and in our case a very low, round side table with low cushioned chairs that lean back. Fine for relaxing with a cocktail, but uncomfortable to eat dinner at. Not a good idea at all, and I would refuse to sit there if offered again (which assumes we would go back, which isn't certain). We were simply uncomfortable when trying to eat. The wine list is decent and reasonable. But my wife didn't want to help me finish a bottle so we ordered by the glass. Two reds, a forgettable syrah and a decent beaujolais. They offered bread so we accepted, one slice of good bread cut into two pieces. We shared the lamb meatballs with yoghurt, and when it arrived I opened the dish rag that served as a napkin, and it was covered with stains. I don't think that was intentional. The lamb meatballs were excellent. She offered the calamaratra pasta, with swordfish and shishito peppers, I had the arctic char with pearl onions and potatoes. And a red horseradish. My char was great, done perfectly and crispy skin. Her pasta included small pieces of swordfish, which were nicely done, but the pasta was bland. The shishito peppers gave it a nice little spice, but she wound up asking for parmesan she found the dish just lacking in flavor. We shared a great dessert, a blondie with malt ice cream, caramel and a praline. Yum. Service was attentive. Prices a bit high but if the seating and the one disappointing dish were better I wouldn't complain. Oh, and don't use dirty dish rags as table linens. read more

The pate was creamy rich, but not that flavorful, and the toasted pieces to spread it on were too fragile for the task. Such a satisfying meal in such a convivial setting. We had four starters -- parsnip soup with oxtail and brussels sprouts, burrata with celery juice and salmon roe, lamb meatballs with yogurt and preserved lemon, and my wife prevailed on me to get the chicken liver mousse instead of the chickpea fries I was craving. Then a glass of the Syrah and the pot de creme. All of it so very good. They have done really beautiful things with the setting.
