Took mom out for post Mother's Day lunch because Mom deserves it ... anyway, it was such a disappoint! Salad was barely existent in the bowl, the sizzling steak was tough as leather with way too much fat on it. Miso soup was so watered down, the miso was nonexistent. Service was AWFUL and we still had to wait in line for 15 minutes just to pay. Everyone in the restaurant was complaining which also made it unappetizing as well. We won't be returning back anytime soon. If I could, I wouldn't give it any stars. read more

Been coming here since the 90's. Probably, hands down, the best shrimp tempura and miso butterfish I've ever had! Today, I had my usual the pick two from list A. My daughter had the tempura with the teriyaki chicken. There's something about teriyaki sauce in Hawaii, that cannot compare to anywhere on the mainland. I've switch to lower salt shoyu, so I immediately could taste the saltiness, but it was just a small taste :) I'll probably be back at least one more time, before I leave the island. read more

I'm glad they finally opened for dine in. Before they closed down for Covid there was always a wait. Well, no different even now. The wait can be even longer since the new rules is limiting capacity. May I say that the restaurant menu has tremendously great choices of food to choose from it takes awhile to decide what to choose. It was our Valentine's luncheon drive to Waikele our second attempt they do not take reservations first come first service. Their servers and staff all are cordially friendly. I highly recommend to eat at their establishment which is worth the wait. We plan on driving from town to Waikele to eat again and again. read more

Went for lunch today, and ordered the combo of shrimp tempura and miso butterfish--both are good! The servers are attentive, and very nice when we wanted to change the order. My Miso butterfish was well cooked and flavorful. For the tempura there are 2 good-sized shrimps per serving, and it comes with a bed of vegetable tempura, which is a nice surprise. The tempura batter is not the very light kind, but it's still airy and the crunchiness is addictive. The combo also come with a side salad, miso soup, and some bites of assorted cold appetizer. The chicken katsu and tonkatsu is not consistent. Most of the time we had ours hard rubbery & overcooked, and only 1 time it was very tender & juicy. Our day hostess had an attitude w/ me . My family and I have been coming here since it has opened for years and have always had good service and food have been good but today we had the worst experience! We wanted to take out our mom for mother's day dinner bc she liked this place and it was really near her home so she chose this place. My husband who started getting irritated wanted to talk to the manager , and told them what was wrong, when my husband asked about our food they said it was the next ticket? umm, how can that be? why would it still be the next order in line to get our food, when our neighbors have already gotten their food and is leaving ??? we have already been waiting for 45 min and still waiting.... My husband and I have been in the restaurant industry so we know someone messed up in the back or something? We have waited quite awhile, and at this point my husband said he lost his appetite to eat, and with all this commotion, I felt bad too and no longer wanted to wait any longer bc we had to meetup with a friend, who was on the way to my house so we left not even eating! was so disappointed! Good, casual place if you want Japanese food in Waikele. Because it's located at the Waikele Premium Outlets, parking is often difficult to find. Often times when we come here, there is a line. OMG dis gotta b my new favorite Japanese restaurant. Service is excellent, food is excellent n restaurant is nice n clean. The specialty rolls like da Tiger n Kunio rolls were really tasty. A little on da smaller side but ono! N their combo plates r very generous in portion size compared to places like Gyotaku. This place was packed w pepo from 5:15 to 8:00 when we left. I've gone here a couple of times but this review is on my last visit. I went here for a friend's birthday and got to sit in the semi private room. Since our party was large we had to sit on two tables. My table decided to get the funamori party boat. There is a minimum of a 4 person order to get the funamori boat and is $31.95 per person. It is served with an appetizer, miso soup, salad, tsukemono and rice. The boat consists of lobster tails, shrimp tempura, vegetable tempura, teriyaki ribeye steak, chicken katsu, pork tonkatsu, sushi and sashimi. I liked that there was a variety of choices but we ended up eating all of it and I still didn't really feel full. Service was okay and the restaurant is always crowded so try to make a reservation in advance. read more

Our selections were shrimp tempura and miso butterfish. We also ordered maki sushi rolls....hamachi/avocado and their spider roll. The food was so delicious and plentiful. I'm a little saddened by my last experience. I just brought my mom for her birthday lunch and things have definitely changed. We were seated quickly and the busboy was quite attentive. Those are the two saving graces for this experience. Our server took our orders, delivered our meals once prepared and never came back. We were seated at a table that she constantly walked pass but not once did she inquire about our meal. She then showed up her last time to drop off the check. The food was just average and the service was subpar, at best. The only reason I didn't give two stars is the very attentive busboy. He constantly filled our water and hot tea without asking. The butterfish her was cooked to perfection got the miso flavor and to be honest I didn't toast the flavor but it was still yummy yum yum. You need to get there when they open. Food was really good, the sushi wasn't the best . I wouldn't buy it again. I still think Kurukuru has better sushi. The combo was really good the mixed tempura was really delicious. The shrimp tempura is huge I would order the shrimp tempura by itself that's must order . The keiki menu was really worth the price 10.95 and it includes ice cream. The sukiyaki was okay , the only thing is the soup was so salty. I am not sure if it's supposed to taste salty. The restaurant ran out of udon so they had to use soba noodles. super crazy busy when i went (11am on a monday). i only saw (2) waitresses and both were running around, literally. i was greeted fairly quickly after i walked in, told the lady i wanted to order takeout and she handed me a menu. then it took a while for her to come back because they were so busy. after i ordered took almost 30min to get my food, which was sashimi teishoku all salad. nothing that really had to be cooked/prepared, just sliced and plated. surprised at what i got. when i ordered the sashimi teishoku i thought itd be more like just cuts of ahi/salmon and thats it, like what it looked like in the combination teishoku sets i saw on yelp. but when i opened it up it looked like a chirashi! ahi, salmon, hamachi, amaebi, etc. good assortment! food was good, but wait was long, which i guess is a good thing because then you know the place is legit since they have a lot of customers. ton of people waiting outside to dine in too. read more

Our server was Edison. He's is the BEST. Greatest experience we had dining there for our first time. Ask for Edison as your server. You won't regret it! We ordered, ribeye steak teisoku. Came in a sizzler platter over a bed of onions. I ask for medium rare but I think next time I'll order it rare since it cooked to medium well. The side dishes that came with it was our favorite. Seaweed with octopus, beansprouts and edamame. Miso soup and rice was also served. Another dish we ordered was tonkatsu teisoku. It was okay. The tonkatsu sauce was okay too. It wasn't anything different or special. They were out of Maguro toro that night. Possibly recommend going earlier than 7. We got seated closer to 8. Vegetable tempura was my favorite. We also had uni nigiri. (A set). It was a little more on the creamier side. Did not really care for it. Overall experience was great! It was more towards the employees working there. Will be going back to try different things. I know they were out of their handmade noodles for sukiyaki, that will be my next dish to try! read more
