Sushi is my favorite so if I'm hungry, I could finish two salmon party plates. My husband splurged and got the premium nigiri set. He was nice enough to give me his uni nigiri and I inhaled that in .2 two seconds. We also got the kumbo tempura. We love that the place has a belt. You can also have minimal person free experience with it. Everything is done on the touchpad so you don't really have to talk to anyone if you don't have special requests. I assume this is how some places do it in Japan, which is very efficient. You do only get one wasabi container until you have to pay for More I believe. But you can tell the wasabi is good quality as well. For their traffic and wait-time, I believe the service is good. This place will get really busy during dinner, but it's not too bad when you get to walk around donki as you wait. The only truly outstanding part of our meal at Waka Sakura was our waitress, Noriko. She was attentive and friendly, knowledgeable and professional. We tried the Wagyu plate, none of which was as tender as I'd hoped. Ordering in the tablet wasn't as easy as it could be, and we ordered something by mistake as a result. I'm not sure I get the rice thing. The rice was fine, but didn't hold together so well, making eating the nigiri a little difficult. I missed a number of favorites from other sushi places, and really wanted the chawanmushi, even though we were there for dinner (apparently it's only available lunch time?) Took a little adventure out to Mega Don Quijote and had to try this spot in the food court! As a townie, it's always fun exploring what's out on the West Side of the island. We arrived right at opening (11:00 AM), and there were already a few parties waiting, which felt like a good sign. We were seated immediately, and the staff was friendly and attentive from the start. Our server quickly brought over water, wasabi and shoyu dishes, along with kiddie plates and utensils, which we appreciated. Ordering was easy -- you can either use the tablet at the table or scan the QR code with your phone. The food came out fast via conveyor belt, and the kids loved the fun semi-self-service sushi experience. The portions were generous overall. I'm a huge uni lover, so I was a little disappointed that the uni gunkan wasn't as full as I had hoped, but everything else was solid. The standout for me was definitely the chawanmushi -- I was pleasantly surprised to find scallops inside. It was rich, savory, and packed with umami. The poke bowl was also huge -- definitely big enough to share so you can save room to try other dishes. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely come back if we're in the area again. I didn't know what to expect from this Kaiten sushi spot that's inside of a grocery store but I was pleasantly surprised. Food was great and got the price you get 2 pieces for most of the sushi but their sets are the best combo! This 4 piece ahi set was under $17 and you get 3 different cuts plus a maki sushi. Prices range from $3-$10 for sushi but they also have mini and regular poke bowls which are a good deal as they give a generous amount. Service is great too. Not too much staff but the food always came out fast and they were attentive filling up our waters. Lots of parking too since it's inside the Don Don Donki (former Kmart). Inside is also clean and their storage to put your bags which i really appreciate especially after buying groceries. Overall would recommend if you're looking for Japanese style sushi. read more

This eatery is located inside of Don Don Donki in Kapolei. They're always busy and it was no different on this night. We waited by the host stand to get seated, but saw a lot of open tables. I asked the hostess if we just sit ourselves. She said that they were cleaning a table for us. Sure enough, all of the empty tables were piled with dirty dishes. They didn't have enough time to buss all the tables. We waited about 10 minutes and finally got seated in a booth. You order from the iPad at your table and your food arrives via those bullet trains. We got the pumpkin tempura $4.99, squid tempura $5.99, seared scallop nigiri $6.29, salmon nigiri $8.29, chutoro nigiri $8.49 and a mountain of ahi poke bowl with onion $13.49. All the nigiris came with 2 pieces. I thought they used brown rice, since all the rice was brown. The server told me that they use all white rice flavored with vinegar. Everything was great. All the fish were fresh. My favorite was the chutoro of course. It just melted in my mouth. I also loved the seared scallop. I wish I lived closer to this place. OMG, the food is consistently amazing every time! Our go-to dishes: - Premium Sushi Set ($35) - All Toppings Udon ($9) - Kids Assorted Set ($7.50) - Sweet Potato Tempura ($6) - Dragon Roll (4pc/$6) - Otoro topped with Uni (1pc/$12) You seriously can't beat these prices. The Premium Sushi Set alone is a STEAL for both the quality, selection, and amount of fish you get. HANDS DOWN THE BEST SUSHI COMBO! The only downside is that they've discontinued a few items we used to love - but honestly, we've found new favorites, so it all works out, I guess haha! You can order on an iPad, and submit it to the kitchen.. once they have your selection done, they'll send it to your table on the conveyor belt. Food was good, but I felt some of the slices of fish on the nigiri was a little thinner than expected, and a few of my seared pieces was seared for too long, even got the rice burnt black. We love another sushi restaurant and after shopping around at Don Don Donki, we decided to dine in and try this restaurant out! Located at the food court inside Dons. There was a bit of a wait, about 30 minutes or so but it wasn't that bad. Once in, we started to get our orders in. The menu is smaller and pricier than other sushi chains. They also don't have regular white rice. It is a seasoned rice, maybe shoyu and vinegar mix. It was tasty but for those wanting white rice, you may need to look elsewhere. The ahi reminded me how Japan makes it when we visited, the wagyu was tasty but also on the pricier side. Their bowls was a good portion, and the spicy ahi really lives to its name, it was SPICY which we enjoyed. The salmon skin was something new and was crispy and savory. Other fried items that we ordered was pretty good as well. As far as service, it was a bit slow. You can request water refills on the ipad but it also took awhile. The waitress or waiter will bring your drinks and soup if you order. We hit the button again and same thing... finally, the third time we hit the button and the worker manning the register decided to come help us since nobody else was. We didn't see any options to get the regular rice so if you don't want everything sauced, you probably won't like it. What a fun experience. We were staying nearby and actually came in twice for dinner. Once on a Sunday and another a weekday night. The food was similar in quality but the service was a bit different. They do have a toddler plate and set. The first night we got a small metal fork and spoon. The second night we got a plastic spoon and fork. The iPad used for ordering can be sensitive so make sure you x out the food items you accidentally clicked while browsing. You can order 4 items at once. We love how you can try a lot of different items. Chicken karaage for our toddler- 4 large pieces. Soft and easily cut up for her to eat. Udon - first night we got the shrimp tempura and the second night we got a regular. The first night the soup tasted very light and the second night the soup was very salty. The noodles are well made and super soft. Better than most udon places in my opinion. From the two nights we tried quite a few items. Highlights would be the waygu flight/waygu uni. They have very long benches and if you go with a large party, they have a cute basket under the seat to place your bags. The restaurant was nicely lit and very clean. The staff is attentive in refilling your water and clearing the table. You order your sushi from a tablet at your table and your sushi comes out on a quick conveyer belt. There's a cute little bell that chimes to let you know your order has arrived. I appreciated that the sushi had more "topping" than rice. Amazing service from the staff that hosted our family of 18 (1 baby and child included)! We did have to wait about an hour because they put us in booths close to each other which was very thoughtful. The booths fit about 6 of us comfortably. Once seated you pretty much help yourself and the staff don't really bother you unless you call for help or request drinks. You can order off your phone or on the table at the table. Definitely take your time in ordering! Some orders over the phone took a while to come out. For example, 1 person ordered a flight of salmon but it didn't come out until almost the very end when we were all full and they forgot they ordered it. Been wanting to try Waka Sakura Sushi Restaurant since they opened so I was so glad my boyfriend and I finally got to try it! We put our name on the waitlist a little after 7pm and only had to wait about 10-15 minutes. There's a sign in the front that said last seating is at 9pm and that's also what I was told when I called them, but they closed the waitlist soon after we got seated. Best advice - call them before going just to be sure. They sat us right in the front facing the food court seating. Next time we'll ask for a booth so we can have more comfortable seats and have a little more privacy. You order all of your items from the iPad and your order gets delivered through the conveyor belt. All of our items came fairly fast except for one of my boyfriend's items that said it was delivered but we didn't receive it so we had to let a worker know. Most of their items are very decently priced and the quality is good! Of course Wagyu, otoro and a few others are a little more pricey, but that's as expected. And the best part is that they have freshly grated wasabi! Definitely made the sushi taste that much better. Although it would've been nice to have the staff come and check on us a little more, they all seemed very nice. We'll definitely be back again! read more

All in all - a good experience- the very little interaction we had with staff was pleasant and gracious - you pretty much only see them for Beverages and some desserts. I enjoyed the tempura shrimp, seared wagyu beef w/ salt sauce sushi and chicken karagge. All were very delicious and delivered fresh and hot. We shared some calamari. My neice had udon noodles and some salmon roll sushi. I also shrimp sushi. Sometimes the uni smells fishy and has a funky taste but I'm assuming it's because I'm ordering it late at night so it may not be as fresh. New sushi restaurant in the new Donki in Kapolei. The atmosphere and ordering setup were pretty cool, but the food left me with a deep feeling of disappointment. Everything is ordered using a tablet. I like this because I can take my time and consider what I want to eat and in what order. Once your submit your order, the food shows up at your table in a little window in front (or on the side) of you via a conveyer belt. No human interaction in the ordering or receiving of your food (introvert approved!). When you are done, you click as such on the tablet and a server will bring you your check. I wish you could pay through the tablet too--paying at the table through an electronic device is so much more convenient. The food... The shrimp tempura was good. So was the Salmon Party (6 kinds of salmon on rice). The corn mayo was different (not good or bad, just meh). The Wagyu Trio (wagyu with three different types of sauce on little pads of rice) was sad. The Wagyu was almost nonexistent. Mt. Poke was a great mountain of disappointment. The poke was not good and had way too many sesame seeds in it. The fish did not taste fresh and left me feeling like I should have just gone to the Donki deli and bought a quarter pound of their poke because I know it's good. The other problem with Mt. Disappointment was the design. It is a small bowl filled to the brim with rice, with poke mounded on top of it. Without a second bowl or plate to move the poke to, getting rice is very difficult. Also, it is kind of like a poke Jenga. Take one cube of poke from the wrong spot and you end up with poke on the table. A larger bowl would go a long way here. I applaud them for the neat restaurant setup, but based on my experience with the food, I probably will not return. read more
