Always a treat to have lunch at Shellona Beach. The service is relaxed but attentive and the view from the dining room cannot be beat. The food here is also always outstanding. We went for lunch as a large group and our preferred way to dine here is to just order heavy apps and then one or two mains for the table. Highly recommend the Shellona salad, truffle pizza, trio of dips and the lemon chicken. Everyone also really enjoyed the crispy chicken burger. read more

The quick and dirty: Beachside spot on Shellona Plage in St Barths with better than average Mediterranean food and excellent service. A bit more 411: There are several establishments on this foodie island which serve lunch along the beach. But Shellona is just a chill spot with a really lovely menu and food that does deliver. This is definitely a seafood focused place with specials like sea bass by weight, lobsters caught literally seaside and stored in the visible tank at the front, king crab and yes, a few prime cuts of beef. But the main offerings are items like grilled calamari, octopus, ceviche, carpaccio, a few salads, prawns and on and on. This was our main meal for the day so we started with the carpaccio st Barthélemy style which was a very tasty preparation of a white fish in a spicy green citrus passion fruit dressing...yum. We also shared the Shellona salad which is cherry tomatoes, cucumber, olives and feta. Not unique but fresh and yummy. We ordered the prawns with pastrami style seasoning which were cracked and de shelled for us to share. Simple but very delicious. And of course the grilled vegetables which weren't anything to write home about, but served as a nice accompaniment to our meal. We did see the Lobster with pasta being served tableside, enormous burgers and crispy looking French fries float around the restaurant. The dessert menu is super interesting so will need to try next time. Overall, we very much enjoyed this place. Like almost every popular dining option on the island, the prices are quite high but you're pretty much out of luck if you want this type of food and vibe for less. read more

This is my 5th time on the Island and I never came to this restaurant because of its reputation as a tourist trap. I decided to give it a try, but now I regret it. The food is a little above average and obviously not worth the price, but that isn't unusual for St. Barts and not the primary issue. The real issue is the horrible service and deceptive billing. After waiting more than 20 minutes for a drink at the end of our meal, I told the server to cancel it and just bring the bill. After another 10 minutes of waiting, he showed up with the drink and tried to force it on us even as we repeatedly told him we didn't want it. After he took the drink away, he then tried to add it to the bill and made a scene when we told him to take it off the bill. We had to speak to another server and the manager got involved before it was finally resolved. Very poor service and unprofessional. There are much better places in this category on the island. Avoid this place, service is too trashy and belongs somewhere like Miami Beach or something . read more

The location is obviously amazing!! I honestly thought, judging just on appearance, that this place would be super pretentious and snobby. I was so wrong! The service was wonderful! They were super nice and quick and the food was delicious! We had a great table, for 6 of us, and it had an amazing view of the beach as well as a fan pointed straight at us. I ordered a few different apps because there were too many things on the menu that I wanted. The octopus croquettes were delicious! I also ordered the tuna ceviche. Out of all the restaurants we tried, this one was one of our favorites! Shell beach is so spectacular to view while eating but also to swim in after lunch. The beach is deep enough to swim, clear enough to see everything, and has fish all around. At Shellona, the Cesar salad was delicious (I preferred it strongly over Eden Rocks lemon-y Cesar). If you are a person of color, beware of this restaurant! Our group purchased 5 beds at $150 each. Another group near us purchased 6 lounge chairs on the beach and had slightly less melanin than ours. At 4:09pm I asked for a food menu for myself alone and was told the kitchen was closed by the hostess. At 4:15pm a waiter brought the large group on the beach a food menu and took everyone's order. It was probably over 10 orders. I asked the same waiter could I order with him and he told me "No the kitchen is closed!" I said but I just saw you take the other group's order. And he said he asked the kitchen could he place their order and I could talk to the manager if I chose. I went back to the hostess to tell her that apparently they are still taking orders and she said "Oh that was placed before 4pm". I said no it wasn't I just saw him enter it in his little device at now 4:20pm. She said it was a first time that's ever happened because the kitchen closes at 4pm and walked away! This place is absolute trash and blatantly prejudice. Apparently if you are a little less tanned you'll get great service here. read more

So this actually happened to us today... We woke up this morning and one of our kids was sick. We had a reservation for lunch at Shellona at 1230pm, so I called at about 8am to cancel. The voice message instructed that all issues regarding reservations should be taken by email, so I then sent in a note to cancel at about 8:05am. A little after 1pm, I got an email saying that the restaurant had held our table for us and turned down other people, and we would be charged a cancellation fee of 140 euros per person, or 560 euros in total - a number that had we not had a sick kid and been able to make the reservation, we would have never in a million years spent. Do I have a problem with a cancellation fee? No. I appreciate that people hold tables and if you simply do not show up it costs a business money. Do I have a problem with being charged 2x what we would have spent with no advanced communication because the restaurant simply did not look at its emails despite directing me to communicate that way? Absolutely. It is truly terrible customer management. Either release the table first thing and do not hold it, or inform me first thing of the restaurant's intransigent policy on adjustments, regardless of the circumstances. Instead I received a rather curt message noting that I had "signed a contract" on cancellation. Got to love that service... In any case, we will certainly never consider going back, and would encourage any other folks who seek to support businesses who act fairly and reasonably to pick alternate venues. In my view this kind of rent-seeking behavior should not go unnoticed. read more

Visiting St. Bart's? Taking a day trip away from St Maarten? This restaurant located on Shell Beach is a must-add to your list of places to go. With amazing food, stunning views and friendly service, it's hard to be disappointed with this piece of paradise! They offer valet parking if you have a rental car. Reservations are recommended as it can get quite busy. Lounge chairs can be rented for 50 euros a day each and come with a towel and waiter service. We chose to eat lunch at our lounge chairs while enjoying the blue water views. I ordered a mojito, which was super refreshing. We started with an assortment of olives, bread and the grilled squid. We watched our lounge neighbors order the grilled skirt steak with chimichurri and fries. It looked so good that we followed suit. Everything was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Shell Beach also offers an assortment of water sports. From paddle boarding to motorized body boards. If you have a yacht, feel free to anchor in the cove and come ashore. Many people also bring snorkel gear (which I took part it) as this beach is also home to many kinds of fish. Sit back, relax and enjoy! read more

Hubby and I were on a cruise that stopped at St Barth. I looked at trip advisor and yelp to see what we could do for lunch. Shellona looked like a perfect place! We walked from the ship to the "Shell Beach". It's a lovely walk through town, and not very far. The beach was empty and it was about 90 minutes until our reservation for lunch. We sat down on some lounge chairs to pass the time. We quickly were greeted by someone who let us know it was $70 per person per day for a lounge chair. I explained we had a reservation and would leave at that point.... Still $70 per person.... Ok, I get it. That's their "rule". We chose two lounge chairs in the shade. No one else was there for another hour. We ordered some sparkling water and enjoyed the relaxation of the quiet beach scene. At the time of our reservation, I went to the front desk. They said they would come get me when they are ready. They waited a bit and dem for us. We were seated at an inside table, even though we were the second table seated. (Another couple that was there after us, was seated before us). I ordered a spicy cocktail and the mahi-mahi burger. By this time two larger groups were seated right in front of us. They were, as would be expected, noisy, and it created a vibe that was more of a party atmosphere rather than relaxing. Our food and drinks were great.... Very fresh! The wait staff was nice and attentive. I would go back if we ever go to St Barth again. We were never charged for the lounge chairs, which I think was appropriate since we were really just there to wait for our reservation, and the place was empty so we weren't taking up a space they could sell for the day. I think they should have an hourly price for those of us with a reservation... just a thought. read more

Very poor service Our server barely acknowledged us the whole time we were there. When he brought out the specials board, he spoke too fast and the board wasn't clear. He asked me if I wanted a second wine which I said yes but never received. The server never asked us how our food or dessert was. It took us 20 minutes to receive our check when I asked for it. An absolute delight! Right next to Shell Beach is Shellona. The entire restaurant patio is outdoors and can be a little hot and humid, but honestly, I love the warmth and welcomed every second of it. The Mahi Mahi lunch was wonderful! So light with the most delicate sauce. The bread served with oil at the table was perfectly paired with the scrumptious table sea salt. The Rosé which our waitress helped us select was also light and lovely. Dining in St. Barth's is a treat. Do not skip an afternoon at Shellona. Also call ahead for a reserved seating, they do fill up. When I went in Nov 2019, I called and they were open despite the website saying they were closed. Make sure to give a call ahead just to be sure you don't miss out. read more

This place is super cool! Located at Shell beach in St. Barths it has everything going for it. This is a French Provence and is on the Euro. The US dollar is still weak to the Euro so keep that in mind. Super clean, great menu! We actually didn't eat there, so not bashing the food or service. I only gave it three stars because of price, $10 for a large bottle of water and two beers were $6 each. Water is usually free? So after tip, water and two beers $30! A hamburger was $30 USD and everything went up from there. Many of the places on St. Barths are pricey so maybe we were just out of our element? For us it was a spontaneous visit so maybe if it was planned it would of been worth staying the day. They also rent beach chairs and serve chair side on the beach. Beach chairs are $50 a day Euro not dollar! Great beach and great atmosphere but for my budget only 3 stars! read more

The second I walked in they said the table would be ready in 20 minutes even though i had already made a reservation, I had to wait for over 1 hour to get seated even though they said 20 minutes. this place extremely overpriced they charged me about 30 dollars for a pasta for my son, the service is horrid it takes hours for the food to come. They also never listen if you ask for something it took 45 minutes for a waiter to get my son a plate of cheese for his pasta, I would not recommend this place for any visitors coming to Saint Barth's. read more
