We obviously same for the Caesar salad which definitely didn't let us down, and the flan was absolutely exceptional! One of the best flans I've ever had. The escargot and pasta we ordered were decent as well, but I wouldn't order it again. Wine and Sangria were good. This place is a feast for the eyes and the palate. Beautiful decor, greeted warmly, seated instantly on a Saturday at 1 p.m. We started with a drink, they were top shelf alcohol, made with fresh fruit. We ordered the appetizer of calamari, delicious. Next we were brought our soup and the tortilla soup was superior to any I've had, the mushroom soup was also excellent. Entrees were the rib eye and the bacon wrapped shrimp. My steak was cooked to perfection, loved the sauce. I did not sample the shrimp but my companion enjoyed it although she wished it would have been served with pasta or potatoes rather than on top of a bed of spinach. The bread was fresh with a different type of spread on the side, still not sure what that was. I would have preferred butter but didn't request it. Our service was impeccable although there was a slight language barrier. I'm in Mexico, not the USA so this is my fault for not taking more Spanish in school. Now for the bill. $57. Whoa! I would easily have paid way more than that at Black Angus and received much less. I'm just wondering why I never tried this this place before. Thanks to Yelp, I was clued in. This is now going to be my go-to place for a nice atmosphere, beautiful bar, indoor or outdoor seating, great service, clean and modern restrooms, and excellent food. We couldn't have asked for more. You don't even feel like you're in Tijuana anymore. + Good food. I had shrimp and octopus and both were pretty good (not the best but enjoyable). My parents both really liked their meals (fish dishes) as well. This was perfect for them since they don't like Mexican food. + You can have the Caesar salad prepared at your table which is neat. My Mom almost passed out when she saw how much oil goes into the dressing. + Really nice, clean bathrooms. + Decent beer selection incl. some local brews as well as their own brew. + Ends up being super cheap with the exchange rate. For three people (with alcohol), it ended up being something like $55. We were so stoked, haha. + The taxi guys outside (there's a hotel here too) were great. One guy was super helpful and helped us call a cab with specific directions and talked the driver down to a good price. + Great location - walking distance from the border. - Service inside was a bit lacking. The salad is prepared for you right at your table. It's served as whole romaine leaves with large baguette toast as croutons. The dressing was perfect and tossed table side. We also tried a stuffed chicken dish which was the most amazing thing ever. The service was awesome. The primary language spoken is Spanish and the currency is in pesos. On my first trip down to TJ, I ate here daily but it takes so long to get my food, lunch turns into dinner. I usually just go down deeper into TJ (zona rio). My husband had wanted to take me here for years. We finally made our way across the border and met friends here for dinner. This restaurant is beautiful. Old Mexico filled with tradition and home of the famous Caesar salad. People think that the Caesar originally came from Italy. Nope. It was created right in Tijuana, Mexico. This traditional salad is so different from what Americans are use to! Full leaf romaine and they whip it up right at your table with their special original recipe. Fab. A nice restaurant and of course home of the Caeser salad. With a 1$ to 18 peso exchange rate, its a nice time to go. I think the escargot is a hit as well. I stick with 4 appetizer and 1 tapas for 2 people and that was fine with the salad ( which is really just 3 leafs of romaine lettuce) If it weren't famous I guess it may be a 4 star place, but it's famous and nice in TJ so 5 To get there: take a uber to the border. Walk across with your passport. Get a cab for 5-10$ and then reverse on the way back. The restaurant will get you a confirmed taxi return price. (Probably $5). And take a taxi back. A taxi to the border from Gaslamp was about $50 each way. Uber is half of that. read more

Excellent service. Excellent food - especially the tapas. I had this octopus dish that was absolutely the best octopus dish I've ever had. I like the way they do their Ceasar salad as well. Very good presentation. Excellent cocktails - very strong. Well mixed. Excellent cleanliness - the floors, the walls, the glass, the ceiling, the bathrooms, the air, the food....extremely clean, which is a wonder given the location. Excellent prices. I ordered 5 tapas plates, 2 main entrees, 2 small salads, 8 cocktails, a dessert and the bill came out to $107. This would have cost $300-$500 in San Diego for similar food in a similar establishment.......and it'd be served to you by Mexicans either way, so might as well come here! read more

We visited TJ on July 4th. The restaurant was recommended by friends as a "must have restaurant in TJ. The staffs can speak English and they have English menus. The escargot and bone marrow were not that good as people complimented on Yelp. They tasted like were cook in the morning but served at night. but the Cesar Salad was Fantastic! We ordered the Ceasar salad prepared table side. This is the original birth place of the Ceasar salad seen all around the world. This was the best Ceasar salad I have ever tasted, extremely recommend that you try it, it's a must! We also ordered a small paella and a French onion soup, my favorites! Lunch came with complimentary bread and a olive oil type spread that paired perfectly. Topped it off with a tasty mai tai made in house by the wonderful bartenders. Cannot recommend this place enough, it's an absolute must if you find yourself traveling to Tijuana. Okay, so my boys and I decide to take dad on an adventure to TJ for fathers day. The plan was to hit some breweries and get a bite to eat. Well, we get down there and the first brewery is closed... because it's Sunday and people don't drink beer on Sunday? Anyways, we decided to get a bite then figure out what we wanted to do. We start walking down Avenida Revolucion and I look over and see Caesar's. I think to myself, Caesar's? home of the original Caesar salad? Okay, we're in. We get a table. One of my boys and I share a bottle wine from L.A. Cetto, the others are finally getting a beer. We ordered some appetizers: spicy pulpo, garlic bread, and some shrimp burritos. They also served up some bread with an olive tapenade. We had to order the famous caesar salad. They mix up the dressing in a big bowl right at the table, then toss in the romaine. It was delicious! For lunch, my husband had the adobado tacos, the boys had proscuitto stuffed chicken, ravioli, and fettuccini alfredo, and I had the fettuccini stroganoff. It was all quite good. The best part? The bill was only $133 USD for a bottle of wine, several beers, appetizers, and lunch. We will make another trek across the border again soon to enjoy another meal at Caesar's!! read more

I'd been to Caesar's before, but only for cocktails at the bar. This past weekend, I came back with a party of 4 for a proper sit-down dinner. Half the pleasure of Caesar's is soaking in the vibe of the place. It's upscale in a #throwbackthursday sort of way, with lots of antique artwork and photo prints all over the place. It feels like you've stepped back in time and into some noir gangster movie. (Caesar's has been around since 1927, so that isn't too surprising.) The place was pretty busy, but we didn't need reservations. The hostess whisked us to a cozy four-top near the back of the restaurant, and our server quickly came by with a cocktail menu. We had a handful of cocktails at Dandy del Sur beforehand (natch), so we decided to class up our evening by splitting a bottle of Sauvignon blanc (whose name escapes me, unfortunately). The server also brought out some sliced-up baguettes with olive tapenade and garlic butter. The menu is just as retro as the decor. Don't expect any modern flourishes like deconstructed plates or molecular gastronomy. Caesar's keeps things old-school and classy, with lots of steaks, fish, and pastas. It is still TJ, after all, so plenty of Mexican dishes are also available. We ordered several different appetizers, entrees, and desserts, and everything was passed around for sharing and tasting. Here's the rundown: Appetizers -- Caesar salad -- Spicy grilled octopus -- Tacos with grilled pineapple, avocado, and onions Entrees -- Beef Wellington -- Salmon Wellington -- Salmon meuniere -- Combinacion mexicana (grilled beef, cheese enchiladas, cheese-stuffed green poblano peppers, guacamole, and beans) Desserts -- New York cheesecake -- Vanilla flan Not surprisingly, the superstar of the meal was the Caesar salad. (This is, after all, where the dish was supposedly invented.) It's prepared table-side, which is quite fun to watch, and the flavor is tangy and light and vibrant. It's nothing like those nasty bottled Caesar-like dressings from Vons. The other dishes were all fine, but a general blandness pervaded everything. Pretty much every entree needed salt and pepper, and both desserts were too sweet for my taste. Nevertheless, the quality of execution was definitely there, and the dishes were still very satisfying -- especially given the low prices. Speaking of things that definitely do *not* have low prices: avoid the roaming guitar players. They'll reel you in with promises of romantic tunes, but they're mostly out to score a quick buck and move on to the next table of suckers -- I mean tourists. All in all, I like Caesar's -- a lot. Some of the food isn't my style, but there's so much else to like about the place that I'm bound to be back. read more

I can't believe that I've been coming to Tijuana for over half a century and have never been here! Will need to rush back to make up for the lost time. Yes, this is where the Caesar Salad was created in 1927. It is still outstanding, prepared table side. And if you check their website the recipe is there, but getting all those fresh ingredients together, and mixing, and emulsifying, etc. - I will leave it to them. But don't miss it! In addition to the salad, we had Oysters Rockefeller, French Onion Soup, a fish on a bed of spinach with slivered almonds and a mild white sauce, and the Apple Strudel. Would have everything again, but, why? Menu is loaded with many tempting dishes - want to try ALL of them. Also, this place has a serious bar and bartender. I'm pretty sure both have been here since the 1930's. One of the best Perfect Manhattans that I've ever had and she was very pleased with the Bloody Mary. And they have some very nice wines. Five stars - yes it is five stars! This has to be my favorite restaurant that I have been to so far. The atmosphere is very classy and romantic. And fellas if you are looking for a spot to propose, Valentines Day dinner, anniversary dinner, etc, this is your spot. The entrees vary from steaks, pastas, fish, etc. I had beef ravioli and my date had a salad. We tried each other's plates and were pleased with each. We also enjoyed a glass of Merlot and it was delicious. There's a long bar with what seemed a diverse amount of liquor. The walls are also decorated with paintings and prints from throughout Tijuana's history. The service was excellent and I couldn't have asked for better. I will definitely return! read more

We settled on the patio to watch the world pass by as we ate. The glass partition is nice - wonder if it's bullet-proof? For appetizers, the Escargot had really nice flavor, and the Oysters Rockefeller was everything that it could and should be. Being the place where Caesar's Salad was invented, we couldn't pass it up. The table side preparation was perfect with carefully selected whole leaves from the romaine heart, and fresh ingredients in the dressing. Our waiter brought us the recipe for the dressing. Do not pass this up. For entrees, both the Beef Wellington and the steak combination plate were awesome. I could go on, but now I'm getting hungry.
