I wanted to update my review. I still stand by what I said before -- the food is good. The handmade tortillas and the flor de calabaza quesadilla are still my favorite. However, lately I've noticed that the flavor has slightly gone down, and sometimes, like others have mentioned, the food can be a bit greasy. That said, I'm keeping my 4-star rating because the food is still enjoyable But for cleanliness, I'd give them a 3.5 What really needs attention now is the cleanliness of the place. The dining area could use some care, but the bathroom was especially bad. The smell was awful, like the trash hasn't been taken out in days. They even placed a large bin in there, maybe to avoid emptying it often -- but it just made things worse. I'm writing this hoping it brings awareness. People might start walking away if this continues, and I've noticed more reviews pointing out the same issues. I truly hope they take action because the food deserves a better environment. read more

The restaurant was very relaxing and welcoming, the setting was really authentic with comfortable seating. The staff was friendly and quick to take our order. Though it did take a while to receive our food, it was worth it for how aunthentic and home made the food was!! The rice, soft and flavorful, the tortillas just remind me home! My husband ordered 2 gorditas with NO sour cream. When the food was ready, the lady opened up the box to show him the order & he noticed the sour cream on it. He kindly told her that he can't eat sour cream & the lady took it back to "fix" it. We came home & noticed she just WIPED OFF the sour cream. I returned to La Oaxaqueña to have my birthday breakfast/brunch with my family since I raved about the food here. The service was fair on this visit, however the quality of the food was off (it was the same lady preparing the food on this visit as my last). We ordered menudo, quesadillas de huitlacoche and flor de calabaza, and a plate of chicharrón. We also ordered three coffees. The menudo was okay, but it was served lukewarm at best which was unfortunate. There were random pork bones with meat in it that seemed to be moreso for/from their pozole which was strange. We ordered the quesadillas plain (without lettuce/tomato/cream/queso polvo) and they both came out very greasy. The tortilla itself wasn't too bad as far as oily, but both of the fillings we ordered were exaggeratedly oily compared to my previous visit. Lastly, the chicharrón with nopales wasn't bad. Hoever, just like the menudo, the dish was lukewarm at best and the rice did not taste fresh. The chicken was not cleaned properly and had skin and fat on it. It did not taste fresh and color was off. Decided to try and eat the tortilla with the sauce but the mole did not taste like mole, felt more like red sauce. Beans were not fresh nor the rice. Rice was dry. My mom's chilaquiles were not great either, sauce was watered down and not spicy. Neither of us ate a third of the plates. Also l, the woman in who. The customers looked to be locals and a favorite with families. Looking at the menu board and hot food display section, I saw there were a lot of delicious options to choose from. I ordered the Chilaquiles de Mole with scrambled eggs, beans and rice. There is no table service so when my number was called, I went to pick up my plate on a tray. The chilaquiles were tasty and plentiful. I added some extra hot salsa, and the tortillas were covered with cheese and mole. The customer service was friendly and attentive, and I was offered a refill with my drink. There is a large parking lot in front and some street parking as a backup. Decent at most based on the tacos. I ordered 3 asada tacos during my lunch and got charged regular price regardless of the website and pages mentioning taco Tuesday. I placed an order to go for 3 asada tacos and a large horchata and it took about 15mins or so but I didn't realize until I got to work how my receipt was and how skimpy the tacos are. You are better off going to your nearest El Gallo Giro location where they pack the tacos and they have great flavor hence it justifies the cost. My tacos were dry and flavorless ( would have rather eaten the homemade tortilla with slathered beans). I liked the horchata it wasn't too sweet or too thick. I been coming here for 5 years now. I have moved from Pomona and still find this place unique. With Amazing food and amazing service. My big family loves this place so much that we had our daughters first birthday here. They went as far as having a cake for us. With no reason to give customers anything free! Now days what is free? We have not stopped coming here since! Sergio jr and his, always humbled family have always treated us more then a customer but as family. The new remodeling and new plates are firex10. Whenever I try a new spot I always try to do what I call a tacos tour to get an idea of what the meats are like. I got pastor, carnitas and asada. Right off the bat the handmade tortillas were amazing!!! I'm super picky about my carnitas, but these did not disappoint. The carnitas were juicy and well seasoned. The pastor was delish! This place is really good! Homemade tortillas are on point. My friend and I ordered two quesadillas each, one chicken and one carne asada. The portions are very big, meat is juicy and it comes with all the trimmings (sour cream, salsa, lettuce, etc). The jugos are really good. There was pineapple, orange & watermelon to choose from. I decided on the pineapple and was not disappointed. My friend went with the watermelon and he was happy with his choice. I will definitely be back to try out more of the authentic Mexican food.
