My quest for decorating my apartment brought me here, among other places. Restoration hardware isn't for the faint of finance. You're coming here for quality goods at double the cost of what you'll find at other retailers. One of the things that's kind of annoying is ordering from RH. If it's a catalog only item, even if you have it shipped to the store, they'll charge you for shipping. You'd expect that at a high end retailer like this, they'd find a way to make your shopping experience easier. Nevertheless, I did order a 3 sconce bathroom lighting fixture. Ironically, I got it to match the other furniture in the bathroom, which came directly from China, at a tenth of the cost. I'm hoping it will be absolutely awesome once it's installed. I may bump my review up another star if it is. read more

I rarely rate companies anymore because for the most part I have had great service since we should be moving into an era where "value" and "service" should come hand in glove, but as with all great things, there comes a time when you are forced to rethink your trust in humanity, and this store is the catalyst for my change in heart. Unfortunately this store in particular is going to get the bad review over the others, because after 5 visits to other stores in hopes of walking away with our purchase (I know, I shouldn't be so greedy in my purchasing desires), we didn't walk away with our desired purchase, but instead a fluffy bath mat! I would give them an extra star since my feet were very happy this morning stepping onto a world of warmth and softness, but I don't want to increase their ratings - so I've opted against it. Back to the review. You cannot buy and take home anything from this place! Maybe one of those moss covered boxes that sits on their "display only" tables. But other than that, nada! After being told that we need to call in advance to get our items from the stock room around the corner. I call back the next morning, and after speaking to 2 pretty snarky (not going to say bitchy, because I get those days too) - but call me crazy if the common courtesy shouldn't apply to a Restoration Hardware employee, ladies get told I need to wait for a call back which didn't happen after checking the stock room; twice. on my 3rd call, I finally spoke to a nice guy called Brian who told me......wait for it: OUT OF STOCK. So after 4 phone calls, 5 visits, 2 snarky encounters I have a grand total of nothing I wanted, but two very happy feet! read more

How is it possible for a family to go to Restoraion Hardware for 30 minutes and not get helped? My husband approached a clerk to ask for a piece of paper and a pen to draw out the layout of our patio to plan which pieces of furniture would fit, and got a really snotty response. My husband is really mellow, but he noticed it, and wondered what was wrong with the woman who was supposed to be helping us, but was really just ignoring everyone there. This place is the pits for customer service; it's not just negligent, it's snotty, which is a much worse sin, in my opinion. Who says they have the best towels in the world. Has them on display. And then DOESN'T LET YOU PURCHASE THEM. If I wanted to order online, I would have. One more one star rating for RH. After my first dismal experience previously posted, I ventured back in to the new facility a couple of weeks ago. It is very easy to get lost in there. It's kind of reminiscent of touring an exceptionally famous and large mosque in the middle east--you can purchase a guided tour upon entrance or discover after many twists and turns that you have no idea how to get out--and the guided tour all of a sudden becomes veeeery necessary and much more expensive. Yup, that's how the new store affected me. It was the furniture only version of Target. I went in knowing what I wanted--line, style, color, measurements. The concierge was really helpful and gave me some hope that things were better than before. "Well, you are way ahead of most people who don't have measurements or a clear idea of what they want. Great, I'll get you with someone when you're ready." I wandered. I mused. I fantasized. Back to the concierge. Salesperson assigned. Over the course of two hours I had three--the first had been there four days, the second salesperson who came over to help the newby had fifteen minutes before he had to leave, and the third responded as if either he didn't want to be there, was totally overworked, had a long day dealing with a difficult customer, or any combination of these. I just couldn't get him to engage. We worked for about 1-1/2 hours at which point now I was getting glazed. I would ask for direction on a key point. There were no concise responses if any at all. Cut to the chase: he was to follow-up by e-mailing me the items chosen thus far and two catalogs to prepare for the next meeting. He gave me his hours. Well, that was two weeks ago and I still haven't heard from him. Is business so good that they can afford to be surly, distant, and/or disinterested? It took a "How badly do I really want this look?" to "Why am I working so hard to engage a salesperson?" It has really dampened my enthusiasm about pursuing RH as a style that I wanted for my guest room. Maybe I didn't represent enough money being spent to generate any excitement on their part. I really don't like it when I put as much time and effort as I have into using this purveyor of home goods just to have them fumble the decorating ball again, as it were. I have been refining my RH look over a four year period. I was ready to buy. Mustering the energy to motivate the staff to help is beyond what I'm willing to put forth. Maybe a couple of years of perspective is still needed, IF I revisit RH, and IF my guest room is still unfinished. Sort of like a dangling participle--but for decorating. read more

I HIGHLY recommend this Restoration Hardware store! Last month I was there numerous times as I needed to purchase furniture for an entire home. Every time I showed up everyone at this store was welcoming, helpful and nice. Irene DeJong was our sales person and I feel so fortunate to have had her. In addition to being a total professional with excellent taste, she was relaxed, funny and nice as she worked tirelessly on all the many details of our order. I gained this perspective after 5 meetings with her that lasted between 2-4 hours each so I should add that she is patient as well. This store deserves a full 5 stars. read more

As others before me mention, they have good quality products + very good sense of color and design. If you can hold out for their sales, you'll feel a little better about how much you pay for their quality and design. I was in the store today and found the perfect new house number for my recently re-painted home. One of the managers helped me right away. The next thing I noticed (and it made me smile) after working in retail for years myself, and after being in this store on other occasions when a lot of the sales help wasn't particularly helpful... was that as I walked up to the counter to pay, the manager followed me. That's how I realized she was the manager. She took quick stock of the line at the counter and the fact that the 2 clerks behind the counter weren't being very attentive. She discreetly got them focused on helping the customers at the register. She was professional, treated them with respect, and without a lot of fuss, made it obvious to everyone that she was paying attention and making sure the customers got good service. It made my shopping experience a pleasure! read more

Beautiful looking furniture but poor customer service. We were very interested in a dining table and asked a lady about it. She returned with a laptop and stared at it the whole time to let us know about the options. But the whole time she spoke with us, there was no eye contact, no smile, no warmth. She seemed kind of cold and gave off a subtle snobby vibe. When my mom asked if there are ever sales, she said the prices at RH never go down, only up. We decided not to purchase from here. The customer service at this location is uneven and shoddy. One specific individual, in particular, was so incredibly unprofessional and rude, I am taking the time to flag this for others and RH management. Today, I went into the Corte Madera store for a straightforward pick up of items that I had already purchased. This should have been an easy errand of only a few minutes. However, when I went up to the central service desk for help, the main saleswoman ignored me and then turned to catch up with a friend who had just come in. Rather than taking a moment to pause and help me, she chose to let me stand there and wait while she gossiped. She was fully aware of my presence but made no effort to flag another person to help me. Instead, she was deeply invested in conversing about her kids' after school activities, college plans, and competitively comparing against her friend's children. This went on for a good while before someone else took notice and then stepped in to help me quickly and efficiently. Had I not already purchased my items, I would have certainly left. While her associate rectified the immediate situation, it does not address her appalling behavior. I was put in an awkward situation where I was essentially being forced to demand to be helped rather than being treated like a valued customer--not the foundation for building loyalty or future interest. read more

While the products are high quality and the site is stunning, the customer secure is rude and inefficient. I purchased an overpriced cabinet and had to wait approximately 45 minutes for someone to help us. When I went to return the cabinet door samples I was grilled twice by two different associates. This review is representative of what most of my friends have experienced. A real shame and missed opportunity. read more

I am totally impressed with Restoration Hardware's customer service. We recently discovered that our lounge chairs were broken. We purchased the Province collection 3 years ago and the welds on the lounge chairs are now all failing. I called RH and they were incredibly accommodating, they had me email pictures of the failed welds to their "Review" department. Within 1 day I had a response from their Review dept. They told me my chairs were still under warranty and that the welds should have lasted longer. They offered to replace all four lounge chairs with no hassle or further questioning. They are going to deliver new chairs and pick up the broken chairs any day now. I am thrilled! This customer service is amazing, I will definitely purchase more large items in the future from RH. read more

It's 5:15 a.m. and I am on line searching for phone number and street address of Restoration Hardware Corporate Office, to make a formal complaint. I came across these reviews and don't know if any RH employee will read this. I plan on telephoning RH later today. Several months ago I ordered a conversation crib ($1199.00) from RH Baby & Child on line. I ordered other furniture and products, however, the crib is the problem. I instructed the order associate to mark in the comments section, that the crib was to be delivered to my home in the factory sealed cardboard box, opened in my home, and assembled. I was assured that was RH white glove policy. I checked the RH website, and yes, that is how the white glove delivery works. Someone should tell the contract delivery warehouse employees. Make some popcorn, this is long. Tonight RH asked me to permit them to try for the FOURTH time to order a new crib and deliver it to me. That's the 4th crib order. Scheduling delivery is basically a nightmare. First I received an email stating the product arrived in the RH distribution center and that another email would be sent when it reached the delivery hub in my jurisdiction. Approximately one week later a message was left on my answering machine, instructing me to call between certain hours to set up delivery. No one answers the phone number given. Several calls back and forth to RH customer service and finally I learned how to reach someone to schedule the delivery. They give a day, but not a time frame. The night before the delivery, a machine calls and leave the time. The crib arrived fully assembled and on the truck without any protection, no padding, no nothing to protect it from other orders. That said, I was concerned it may have been a floor model or a reject from another customer, I refused to accept it. Then it occurred to me that the crib is 5 inches wider then any interior bedroom door in my house. Even if I removed the door and all trim, it still wouldn't fit. The organic crib mattress had also been removed from all wrappings. No way was I accepting an open baby mattress. Order #2 completed with same demand that products be in factory sealed boxes. Nope, they failed again. This time the crib was in a box, however the box had been opened and the parts were just in the box, no wrappings, no protection. It occurred to me it may be the initial crib again, so I rejected delivery. They convinced me attempt #3 would be the magic success. To protect myself, I kept a large piece of the crib to ensure I wouldn't get the same one again. Tomorrow, September 17th was to be attempt #3, and I can't believe --- the warehouse assembled crib #3 and changed my delivery time frame. I learned this fact after someone called to confirm delivery time, which was different then I was promised. Two hours on the phone with RH, contract dispatcher, and warehouse manager, and they want to start all over again. I've not agreed yet, waiting for some RH associate with magic powers to call me Monday. I requested permission to pick up the crib myself, RH said they couldn't permit that. Wonder why, at least I'd get it in the factory sealed box and they wouldn't have to pay someone to assemble it. Then I asked for them to use a different delivery company, no again was their answer. The words customer service clearly means nothing to RH. read more

Restoration Hardware doesn't only sell home fixtures but other knick knacks. I really only shop here for Christmas because they have cute little stocking stuffer. I got a very warm and soft throw with matching pillows. They were $50 which is really one of the most affordable items in the store. I also got the most cute puppet theatre for my niece. The theatre is made out of cardboard but very elaborately designed. It also comes with 5 different hand puppets that is absolutely gorgeous. It cost $99 but I rather spend money on toys that are not technology based and where imagination is a must. I also got a few battery-less flashlights for my coworkers. A great necessary item but green at the same time. The service is very friendly as you are promptly greeted and help is always cheerful. read more

Every item I've ordered from them is delayed, by months. Overpriced. Well-made, but a bitter process

WE bought the 1960 Rome counter stools site unseen. I tried finding them so I could sit in them, but there was none in any RH location near us. So we bit bit the bullet and bought four. Though the look of the stool is very beautiful. The seating area is terrible. Your butt cannot be any wider than 11inches to fit comfortably. My 10-year-old granddaughter fits quite well. My Husband is 6'2 and has to sit partially on stool and I am not a large women can not fit comfortably . We can forget about having guess sitting i them. And of course they were special ordered and can not be returned. I was told they were comfortable . So Buyers beware....... Do not by site unseen for RH read more

Went to the store in person to see the bedding I had chosen online. None there, so a salesperson offered to do the order for me. Joined the membership program, bought the bedding to be delivered, but the salesperson neglected to register my membership. Have made 5 calls so far and spoken with different customer service reps. You would think that this location, being its Flagship Store, would be exceptional, but to my dismay it was quite the opposite. The layout of the store and the offerings, albeit on the pricey side, were nice. The products and presentation are great. It's just too bad that their customer service is lacking. I walked around the store for a good 15 minutes before I gave up on expecting anyone to even acknowledge me. Not ONE person said hello and the store was empty. Could it be that I look young? Don't let my "I'm Asian so I look 12, even though I'm probably 45" image fool you. No one said hello or even bothered to ask me if I needed help. the covers off to put them through the washer. Some of the inserts had come apart and were no longer functional. I called RH Customer Service and they were immediately responsive and replaced my inserts at their cost, which I through was above and beyond. My new inserts and my newly washed covers together make the L-couch look brand new. I am extremely pleased with the replacement inserts. RH has really nailed how to provide 5-star customer service. Their products are high quality, and the customer service is also 5-star. I will continue to purchase RH products and I commend them for standing behind their brand. Well done RH. read more

Restoration Hardware has beautiful furniture, bedding, etc., but incompetent employees. I purchased over $800 in bedding and had to return twice because of mistakes the employee made inputting the information on my order. I'm better off ordering products on line myself. read more

I'm a little aghast that there are so many bad reviews, and do notice that some of them start with the equivalent of "I heard..." I nearly didn't bother shopping for sofas at RH because of the reviews. Luckily my realtor, who had been truly sensational in handling our first home purchase, recommended it. I figured I'd give it a go on his good word. I just got back from a busy Sunday of shopping. I got exactly what I was looking for. The customer service person, Karen, stopped what she was doing and not only went through all the couch options, but took the time to pull up pictures of the new house, saw the colors, and helped me pick out a rug. She was completely upfront about delivery times, prices, and went through various stuffings for the couches. Afterwards she told me to send her a picture and even ask any questions about Novato (my new town). It wasn't just me, either. In a very busy store, each customer service person was speaking with shoppers. The prices were only a shade higher than Laz-e-boy, and weren't far off from the higher end couches at Macy's. What RH has over those other stores, and why I was so glad this worked out, is the fabulous style and comfort. I'll be looking into my other needs there as they arise. In one sentence...they need to take their whole attitude down a notch! The staff and management are so full of themselves it is uncomfortable being in their store. They flit around in their high heels with their microphones on their faces and have several layers of people before you actually get someone to help you. I have tried to give them a chance repeatedly because I like their merchandise, but their customer service and attitudes are so obnoxious it is better to buy on line than to subject oneself to their attitudes and incredibly poor service. read more

We drove for 1.5 hours to come to your retail site -afer your website would not work. The in-store experience was disasterous. Pathetic customer service - not greeted nor acknowledged - called ahead to assure inventory was in the store. Jules, your sales clerk did not listen to what we wanted nor was she apparently able to read the registry. We had to wait wait wait - Jules was not busy - not really present - not interested - and certainly has no idea what constitues customer service or care. I was never able to purchase the twin beds, the dressers, the mattress's, the bedding, the lighting for our boys - your clerk could not be less engaged. In fact Jules was the least bit interested in the sales process. Are you paying her? Really corporate you can do better. I am taking my 3K for the boys bedroom elsewhere. My husband and I ordered several thousand of dollars worth of furniture from Restoration Hardware Baby and Restoration Hardware. The chair we ordered looked like it was from IKEA. It was wrinkled and looked like a 5 year old boy wearing his dad's suit. The slip cover was ill-fitting and just embarrassing. It was a disaster. The so-called matching ottoman showed up several weeks later. It was left on our doorstep, in a broken box, packed with dirty bags as the "stuffing" for the box. Further, the ottoman was also not steamed, completed wrinkled, and a different color than the chair. The matching chair and ottoman DO NOT match. And since there was no white-glove delivery, as promised, we could not protest the delivery and send it back. We ordered a bistro table. They sent an ugly white mirror instead. We ordered an expensive floor lamp. It showed up broken. The back-end delivery is deplorable. If you want items that are correct and unbroken, do NOT shop here. We are still working through RH trying to make this right. But we have wasted countless hours on the phone with RH, going into the store to make this right and waiting for the delivery of broken, incorrect items. We are expecting a baby in two months and I have ZERO confidence that any of this will be right in the next two months. I am beyond frustrated with them. I will never order furniture from RH again. read more

Restoration Hardware Has very poor quality carpets AND sadly for very high prices which is not a good combination. I purchased my second RH Katya 8x10 carpet because the first one pilled after owning it a short time. I returned it and got a new one. The new one has had the exact same issue. I have at least 10 large oriental carpets in our home that have been around before me and will be around after me that have not pilled at all ... in the more than 8 years i've owned them! I am so sad at RH quality and Customer service both. Customer service will not return the carpet, they state that pilling is normal and i can buy special tools to fix it or take it to a cleaners. read more

Don't count on them if you have furniture problems....and really be concerned about the sets. Purchased an oak bed frame as part of an entire bedroom set (night stands and bookcase - one of the higher end that they were offering) - 1 1/2 years ago and the bed literally fell apart. The weight bearing side frames were held on with glue and dropped to the floor!!!! Over the next two months we engaged Customer Service - got to know them quite well - and lived on the floor in the interim. They initially said "don't take the bed apart until after it was assessed" which we did. We then were told to leave the bed up until they were able to repair it, if they could, (they couldn't. but they wouldn't know this for three weeks!) -- ridiculous. We were finally offered a refund on the old bed but because we purchased a set, we hoped for at least some modest discount or another solution for now mismatched furniture. We were offered no solution, originally, but after probably 15 phone calls, a Supervisor offered a refund on the other parts of the set. Moral of the story - DO NOT TRUST THEM TO DO THE RIGHT THING if there is a problem with one of a set. Having been a fairly loyal customer for years, I am frankly stunned!! I still believe that they have some extremely high quality furniture, but this episode demonstrates to me that they are more about profits and have very little concern about customers. Disclaimer: This review does not reflect on all employees involved in this episode as there were those who tried to correct this with both professionalism and sincerity, including Leslie at the local store who both understood our frustration and kicked it upstairs appropriately. update: Was told I would be credited for my refund 48 hours after the botched, delayed custom order was picked up from my house for return. I had to call RH 2 weeks later to learn that they had cancelled the refund which I then had them reprocess. 15 days post return not 48 hours as promised AND had to be initiated by my phone call. Don't buy the Ben Soleimani rugs, or any other rugs from Restoration Hardware. They are very very poorly made, and not inexpensive. They do look nice, but the looks are very deceiving. They will shed large amounts of fibers for as long as the rug is on the floor, and the edges will unravel without being trafficked upon. The wool rugs are VERY adversely affected by liquids (e.g. clean water) being spilled on them. When there is an issue with the rug, Restoration Hardware does not stand behind their products - apparently because the quality of the rugs doesn't merit standing behind. Caveat emptor!! Take your rug business elsewhere... read more

Our House in the wine country burned down 2 years ago, and we are rebuilding. To furnish our new home we have visited RH stores in SF, Yountville, Corte Madera and NYC...and by far, had the very best experience in Corte Madera, thanks completely to Irene Dejong. She is AMAZING! Irene is helping us select, organize, and map out our 2-family house. She has such a "can-do" attitude....so smart, such good taste, so quick, so able to read our needs. Her service is exemplary, and she definitely has made us feel very loyal to RH. She is a HUGE asset tp RH. read more

I was nervous about shopping here after reading so many negative reviews, but we saw a bedroom set that we really liked and purchased it with our fingers crossed. Our experience couldn't have been better, and when the drawers didn't work properly because of bad construction, they exchanged the whole set for us for a new one (different model) after seveal months. This review actually involves a catalog purchase and not connected to any store. I have bought at the stores before but this was my first catalog purchase. I ordered table lamps and dining room lights and was told I would be emailed about delivery. When no email arrived I called to check on them and they said the order had been shipped. When only the table lamps arrived I called to check on the remainder of the order and was assured they would arrive on or before July 6. When they didn't show up on July 3rd I figured they were not coming during the holiday weekend and on Sunday the 6th I called customer service. I had to cancel my electrician for the Monday install and wanted to know when they would arrive so I didn't go through this again. At that time I was told they were not available; not in stock and they had no idea when the manufacturer would ship them out. It would have been nice if customer service told me this the previous two times I called. Then, to add insult to injury I received an email telling me the lights I had been waiting on and they did not have were now on sale. So I wrote customer service this time, explained what happened and they gave me a delivery date of on or before August 7. The representative gave me a very sincere apology and discounted the lights even more than the sale price. A few days ago my card was credited and the lights arrived today, more than two weeks early. They were direct shipped over night from the supplier. They are beautiful and the packaging job was the best I have seen by any company in 50 years. If the phone service had not given me the run around originally I would have given 5 stars. It was nice to have a major company treat me so honestly and make up for their error. Restoration Hardware AllAire Fans. About three years ago I purchased 2 16" Telescoping fans from Restoration Hardware. This week one of them stopped working. I tried to find support for the fan on the web and nothing. So I contacted Restoration Hardware Customer Service and asked for help getting the fan repaired and possibly contacting the manufacturer for assistance. After a few days RH got back to me. With the following; "Thank you for shopping with Restoration Hardware. A product information request was submitted on your behalf. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with our vendor information for the Allaire Telescoping Floor Fan. Our vendor information is proprietary information, and we are not legally able to give that information out. We apologize for the inconvenience." Keep in mind that these fans can cost as much as $300 each. The simple fact that Restoration Hardware even sells an item that has no support for big money is highly annoying. I would have been better off buying a $20 box fan from Walgreens. If you're considering one of these fans, I would think again. I don't have a problem that the unit stopped working. These things happen. But to not have after sales support for such an expensive item is unforgiveable. read more

I don't know why they have so many lousy reveiws. I find their products to be made well, out of good materials. The design they bring forth is quite wonderful. We have an area rug from them that is silk and not only looks fabulous but is great under bare feet. I have shopped there many times over the years, and always had good customer service and been pleased with the selection. Around the holidays they carry very nice inexpensive well designed and engineered gift items. Kudos to them! read more

I applied to work at this location (for there new baby store across the way). I got a call for an interview. When I got there I found out it was a group interview (this was not told to me over the phone). During the interview when I asked the store manager a question she replied back with a sharp response. I was very surprised at this and almost walked out of the interview. Being the professional that I am I kept my composure and finished the interview. When I found out I did not get asked back for another meeting I was surprised as I am more then qualified for the position I applied for. Any company that spams me with 200 page catalogs that I didn't request immediately gets one star and will never see any of my money.

This location is one of the loveliest stores and has one of nicest staff. Why is it that I can never walk out without getting some little vintage toy or gadget for myself or for a gift - their holiday offering includes red viewfinders, Holiday Adlibs, mini etch-a-sketch, and Magic 8 Ball (Will I buy too much? Signs point to yes.). The perfect store to take advantage of their friends & family 20% discount and stock up on host gifts and stocking stuffers. A personal favorite - they have the best quality sheets for a relatively reasonable price. After many washings, their sheets are still as soft & cozy as can be. read more
