Been here twice so far since I found this place on Yelp. I stopped by for the first time after surfing last weekend. They have a very good variety of games and better prices than the video game store by my house. Service is friendlier too, and I like that I am left alone to browse in peace. Any time I shop at Game Stop, it seems like a different associate approaches me every 60 seconds. I look forward to coming here when I'm in the area on the weekend to add to my gaming collection. read more

Great gem of a find! Brought in some DS stuff, gaming accessories and movies (they love horror esp classic cult) and got a fantastic deal!! Gonna dig for more retro 80/90 items for them, hopefully mom n dad didn't toss them. The service was above and beyond expectations esp Blake and Anthony cool guys who enjoy talking shop with ya! So I was searching online to see if there were any cool retro game stores in the area and came across this one. So I decided to drive to check out the store and hopefully leave with some games. Sadly I was in for a not so good experience. Stepping into the store, I wanted to pick up some Wii games and was browsing through them and found a few games that would normally be $1-3 were around $6-8. I thought to myself, "These are overpriced but whatever." I kept looking through the store and saw they had a sale for PS1, PS2, PS3, Wii, and 360 games which it was buy two get one free for the games but the free game had to be valued at $9 or less. Kind of restrictive if you ask me. Most games stores that I've gone to don't have that type of exclusion. After looking in the Genesis section, I found one game, and finally picked up a PS3 game along two PS1 games. I made sure that one of the Playstation games was valued at $9 or less. After I got my selection of games I got line and saw some old Pac Man and Mario stickers which the display box said 30 cents. So I got a few while the cashier was ringing me up. I asked her, "Are these really only 30 cents?" she said it was just the display on the box and the real prices are on the back of the stickers. After seeing the sticker packages were about $10 each I immensely put them back. Seeing that my total rang up to almost $60 I asked the cashier if one of my games was free. She told me that none of the were because none of them qualified. I told her there was a sign that said one of the Playstation games I would get was free. Again she told no because none of the qualified. This time, I pointed to the sign directly above us to my left and reiterated that my $9 PS1 game should be free. For the third time she told me nothing I had qualified. So I responded, "I'm sorry, I'm not going to buy anything." I pulled my card out of the reader, I saw how the employee didn't even say anything and I left. What an awarding winning cashier. If this were most other game stores, I would have gotten that third Playstation game for free no problem. For as many complaints people have given Gamestop over the years, they don't even give you a hard time with a buy 2 get 1 free promotion because you decided to buy one extra game outside of the promotion let alone limit it to the free game has to be below some dollar amount. I'm truly amazed that Retro Games Plus has been in business this long with their prices and these business practices. I understand every business has rent, employees, etc to pay but please honor your promotions and don't price gouge. I don't think that's asking much at all. I also found out they sell a bunch of stuff on eBay most likely to get more on their inventory rather than selling it in store. I've told a few buddies of mine that were thinking about hitting up some retro game stores to avoid this one. This was my first stop in and for sure my last stop too! read more

Straight up. I found this place a couple of years ago. They had a little bit less inventory but I found myself coming back a week or two ago cuz I had an issue with my old Wii. These guys are so awesome! You got two guys that have gotten to meet a couple of times. Cameron and Christopher, these guys treat their customers right? They have answers. They've got a good game selection when I actually purchased my Wii from GameStop a couple of years ago and they don't know anything about wheeze now. Yeah I know he's a little outdated but retro games has got you covered. Dude I can't say enough about this place. They got good prices. They don't honor the prices printed on the labels. Worst shopping experience ever. I will avoid this place.. shop anywhere else but here.. I been here a few times, but last week was my last time here. I walked in and saw a xbox series x at msrp. When I got ready to purchase it..the cashier changed the label adding an extra 100 dollars to the item. All while laughing the whole time...I asked why they would not honor the price that was originally printed they just laughed. It was because they realized scalpers making money by overpricing these items, so they tried to rip me off..I walked out as fast as I could. I have never seen scalpers in real life just online. So it was a horrible experience. I wouldn't not recommend this place to anyone. I would give them 0 stars if I could. read more

As we all know, retro gaming is VERY hot right now, which unfortunately means that you will be paying an arm and a leg for even crappy games, since it is a vicious seller's market. Thankfully, places like RGP exist, where the selection is plentiful and affordable. Originally, a small chain in Connecticut, they have decided to expand out west, and Huntington Beach is their first location west of the Rockies, and I couldn't be more grateful that they chose Orange County. First of all, the store carries every system from Atari 2600 to PlayStation 3. How's that for a wide net? Also, the employees are very helpful. No bad attitudes here, at all. Thank God. The owner, Kris, is awesome, and really knows his stuff. He has tried his best to make this store the cool retrogaming hangout, not just a store where you purchase and leave. So, if you like being part of a community, then this place will suit you nicely. But, we can't just live on games alone, can we? Well, they also carry retro toys and manga as well. Plushies, Pokemon cards, and Gundam models too! Yup, if you're into Gunpla, they actually have a pretty nice selection. But, wait there's more! They also have a couple of arcade machines, and a LEGO pile that you can stuff into a box for a small fee (see my pictures). Pick a small, medium or large box, and fill it to the brim with LEGOS. Pretty cool. They also carry every accessory that you could want, new and used! Yes, some smart third-party companies still make retro parts and accessories, and RGP has them all. Tired of gaming? No problem, they carry DVDs and BluRays too! Their Japanese game selection is slim. But, this place is NOT trying to be an import gaming retailer. So, the fact that they even have a few Japanese games is merely the cherry on top for me. So, if you've been wanting to get into retro gaming or if you've been one of us maniacs all along, then you REALLY need to come here soon. Best spot in town. They have the best prices and service I've seen from a retro game store. If you need your games cleaned they offer cleaning for 2$ and they resurface the disc to immaculate if excellent shape. I highly recommend this shop to any retro gamer out their looking to collect. After spending a few hundred dollars here, unfortunately I'll never return due to poor customer service. Warning to customers here... I called and put two games on hold which I saw over several previous visits, nothing special just dinged up NES games CIB. "Sure no problem, they will be here" said the manager, so I drove down. Within less than an hour I was told "Sorry we sold that game." What?! We JUST spoke, what a waste of my time. So much for repeat customers who spend hundreds of dollars. Do not buy pokemon cards from this place. They weigh and repackage the cards. The outside will say 2020 but all cards inside were from 2017.

I came in simply to ask questions about the PS3 in preparation for eventually adding it to complement my anticipated purchase of a next-gen console--either a PS5 or Series X--but I succumbed to impulse buying. I was greeted upon entering the store and both attendants were quite helpful and accommodating each doing so with a genuinely pleasant demeanor. Neither was overtly trying to make a hard sell on their products, but rather provided answers and insights to my questions while leaving me to my own devices until I was ready to ask for their assistance. Having been armed with the information I was seeking, I felt comfortable enough to move forward in purchasing the Super Slim model of the PlayStation 3 albeit unexpectedly so. I also chose Metal Gear Solid IV as the free game to go along with my console. The store primarily sells used games and consoles, so I had concerns about the condition of my items but they went out of their way to inspect the available products on hand as well as provide me with an opportunity to pick among the available selection of accessories and discs. There was also a buy-3-get-1-free offer, which I didn't take advantage of yet despite receiving the benefit of game recommendations. I just like to do more research before committing to buying games as I view them as long-term acquisitions towards my collection and prefer to minimize instances of trading in games. In any case, I'm happy to find such a place for used video games, especially with a lot of stores closing shop nowadays. Plus, the fact that this store is actually the 4th and only location in Southern California in a chain that has 3 stores in Connecticut, provides an added sense of peace of mind for me. read more

Stopped by the HB location to sell some Yu-Gi-Oh! cards and was helped by Liam, who was patient, super friendly, and extremely helpful! He was able to grade and buy the cards in about 20 minutes, and the store has a large collection to browse through in the meantime. I love the environment of this store: it's very welcoming and fun to browse around, especially when it comes to revisiting the games, guides, and cards from way back in the day. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Staff have all been very friendly and knowledgeable. Stock is great and features an amazing array of retro and some more modern games and hardware. First time I went looking for a Gameboy advance as a Christmas present, staff let me try the Gameboy and try out any of the games I was interested in from their stock. Unfortunately the charging on the Gameboy went out so I went back and they spent 20 minutes trouble shooting it before replacing the whole thing even though I didn't have the receipt. Stores like this remind me why I'll never go back to a GameStop. read more

There are several things I look for in a Videogame store that specializes in retro titles. This place hits all the big markers of a great store: Friendly staff, great prices (often well below retail), fair trade in values, and a large selection of games to choose from. As far as retro game stores in the Orange County area, this is easily the best place to go. Kris has put together something really special and has often gone above and beyond when it comes to his treatment of customers. I can't say enough positive things about it. I hope he will put together some events like trade meet ups, tournaments, etc. I encourage you to go visit and buy from these guys. I'm glad they're here and I hope they stay a long time. read more
