I was planning to get two bikes serviced and tuned up for use. I rang and spoke to Nestor expecting to take my bikes to the Victory/Van Nuys Blvd location as I have before. He mentioned this new location in Panorama City which was probably even closer to me. I took them down within the hour expecting to leave them there but Nestor had a quick look and said he could look at them almost immediately. Parking is in the rear although I found parking out the front of the store. He charged me a very good and fair price. He gave an honest evaluation and told me that one of the bikes required little work compared to the other. I highly recommend anyone to purchase or take their bikes here for repair. read more

I haven't been on my bike in a couple years, nor had I properly maintained it. I have started doing the various bike events where they close off the streets and so brought it in. Nester is very friendly and has a passion for cycling, which I loved. It's always nice to deal with someone who loves what they do. I had the bike fully tuned up, new seat, cables and shifters. I took the bike to the 626 Golden Streets event today and it rode great!! I am so happy to be back riding. The only negative I would say is that the communications is not great on a couple issues. And, apparently, one of the workers had called to let me know that I needed new shifters but didn't leave a message. So, when I came to pick up the bike it was a surprise and it wasn't too ready. My husband said the parts used were very good and the price was good too. Seems like a bit limited selection so you may want to buy things like a seat elsewhere - but I did get a seat there and it is very comfortable. Some people like a bit more choice. I am very happy with the end result. read more

So after collecting dust in our garage, we brought out my bicycle in hopes of a good cleaning and making it functional again.....the wheels were pretty rusted......so the guy who accepted the bag said that "we'll definitely try to clean it." So, a week later my husband returned WITH the appropriate receipt to pick up the bike which they had no idea where it was. They kept him waiting for at least 20 minutes while they looked for it. When they brought it out, it practically looked the same and the rust looked completely untouched!!! Now we know it's tedious work to remove rust but not impossible. My husband came home and in a matter of few minutes removed most of it with vinegar and baking soda. We figured since they're the bike experts it would have been a doable task for them. Overall, we were unhappy with Their services and feel we can't trust them!!!! Will NOT be going back.... read more

Really let down by my experience here, with all the 5 star reviews i expected the best service and an amazing bike, what i got was a lemon. First ride, first day after i got it, i was about ten minutes in to my ride and the handlebars began to loosen. Loosened till i was holding the center to even ride home. Lame. Then, a few weeks later, i'm going down in my gears and i hear a pop and a snap and then the back gears pull into my tire and stop the bike cold...almost flew off. Brought it back in, they told me that it was my fault for going down through the gears like that. About a week later the tire pops on the bike path and i had had it. That was it with this bike of death. They gave me about 50% of my money back after we brought it back and waded through their long explanations and circular talk. Every simple question was answered with long and sketchy explanations that lead nowhere. I never felt comfortable with that bike and now I know why. I've ridden bikes my entire life and have never had a bike break like this. Two separate times two separate people tried to tell me it was my doing or that i was riding it to hard...i ride around the neighborhood... nah... read more

This is the best place and the most honest bicycle shop in town. Very knowledgeable  staff, quick repair and the best price in town.. I would like to give them 500 stars instead of 5.  I took my kid's stroller wheels for repair. One of the wheels was beyond repair. One of the staff took his time to show me on his phone how to get a replacement front wheel and what to get. After receiving the front wheel, I went back there this afternoon to have them repair the other 2 wheels. When he was done , I asked him how much I owed. The gentleman behind the counter told me, nothing, don't worry about it.  I was blown away by his kind gesture. After I insisted that he needed to get paid, he just charged me a very minimal fee.   If you need the quick and best service, and if you don't want to get ripped off by the repair shop, this is the place you want to go for repair or buy a bicycle from them.  Thank you Retro Xpress. read more

A friend recommended for me to visit this bike shop a while back. The guys here were great, friendly, and very attentive. I just needed new brake pads and to remove the free wheel cassette of my road bike. After buying the brakes, Nestor removed the free wheel cassette free of charge, which surprised me since it was warped on and needed some muscle to remove it. He told me just to tell my friends of his shop. I liked the experience so much that I obliged. Every time someone I know needs some bike work done, I send them to this bike shop. Later I decided to rebuild and switch most of the parts from my road bike. Whenever I would get stuck or required a more professional touch, the good men of Retro Xpress bicycles would help me out with discounted prices at times and great work every time. When I came into the store, not only did the owner tell me which bike would work best for me and my purpose, but he also was so genuinely honest and told me that another bike that I saw in another store was actually a better deal and told me to get that one, instead of the bike that I liked in his store. Friendly, reliable, great knowledge... on a budget!!! First time I stopped here, I was riding and i run out of brakes. Turned out to be a quick fix - they didn't charge me... I was so impressed... because of this experience I returned for a tune up. I found they charge way less then previous shop I used to go, and they didn't came up with "oh, I'm sorry, but we also need to fix this and that..." and triple the original quote like I had previously. Customer service really doesn't get better than this! I don't know anything about bikes, but I had just received one from my friend. Something didn't feel right when I gave it a test ride, so I wanted to take it to get checked out. I gave Retro Xpress a call to see if I could get an appointment and they happily told me there was no need and I could just stop by whenever. I brought my bike over right after and was quickly greeted by Nestor who I had spoken to on the phone. He quickly identified the problem and made all of the adjustments in just a few minutes, and now my bike rides perfectly. I was so impressed and thankful! My chain fell off my bike when I was changing gears incorrectly I assume. So I just threw it back on there, and just continued to bike. Went to this shop to have them take a look at the bike and make sure nothing got messed. They just had to tighten a wire and inflate the tires. They did not charge at all! I asked if I could make an appointment and got a weird first come, first served answer. Okay. Couldn't even tell me what it was like there at the moment. Because of the good reviews and how close it is to my apartment, I was really wanting them to be my default shop. I put my faith in them despite the call and was in good hands. I was in and out within maybe 20 minutes and paid less than $20 for my minor fix. My rear valve had broken. The shop is pretty small, so it's awkward waiting for them to fix your bike... and parking is probably a nightmare if you don't go during off hours. All the same- worth it. read more
