Stopped by for lunch after visiting the thrift store nearby. Heard great things about this place & had to see for myself. There was a constant flow of people coming and going, which I took as a good thing. However none of the staff wore masks and only a third of the patrons came in wearing one. We had the venison Monti and My Boy Bleu. We shared and enjoyed both burgers, which were very sizable. Despite the delicious burgers, I don't know that I'd be back. I was not expecting such great food from this little place in Monticello! After visiting the Jefferson County Farmers Market, I cam here on a whim. You can order your entree with beef, bison, deer or Iberian pig. I had the shepherds pie with bison that was unlike any that I've ever had before. Whole green beans on the bottom, flavorful carrots, a nice broth and potatoes on the top broiled perfectly. My friend had the jambalaya and said that he would order it again. The fish was small & had absolutely no flavor , as did the potato salad that accompanied it . My grandsons steak was to be medium rare & was well done & tasteless !!! Really . The thin shoestring French fries looked like they were cooked in old grease & burned on his plate & ice cold on my granddaughter's ! My jambalaya I've never experienced before in my life ...it was like a hardened leftover from last week rice bowl with minuscule diced pieces of chicken & sausage ! I had to ask my spouse if there was really any meat in it ! We were shocked & flabbergasted as people kept coming in to eat. While the menu board outside looked good the inside was another horrid story . The restrooms were filthy & had water everywhere & no way to dry hands . Lights kept going off in the restroom . For what you paid here you could've gone to a very nice restaurant with superb food . Instead this all went to a chicken coop as it wasn't fit for human consumption . Enjoyed a short detour from I-10. Downtown Monticello is less than 10 minutes north of the exit. Charming and friendly. Cute restaurant on the town square with indoor and outdoor seating. Local beers on draft. Had the blackened bacon-wrapped shrimp special. Appetizer portion had 5 good-sized shrimp wrapped in crispy bacon. Stuffed with goat cheese and roasted red pepper with a sweet and spicy satsuma glaze for dipping. Was delicious! Collard greens were tender and well seasoned. Pork-seasoned with right amount of salt and perfect heat. Dessert options all sounded great. Two cheesecakes: pumpkin or satsuma. I had the cranberry pecan bread pudding, which came out nice and warm. Good flavor with generous whip cream and caramel. Large enough to share, but I ate it all myself. read more

We've been here several times, with varying degrees of poor service. Today's was the worst. Our medium burger enjoyed a past life as a hockey puck, the fries were similarly cooked beyond the point of edibility. When the server finally returned, many, many minutes later, our time allotted for lunch (90 minutes) had expired. We received apologies of dubious sincerity when remarking upon the uneaten plate and received a bill for the full cost. We wrote this while waiting 15 minutes for server to return with card. Well we found this place while driving to our hotel. I ordered the bistro steak medium. The steak was served as medallions not a single steak, smashed potatoes and asparagus. This place seems to specialize in organic and local foods. The steak was "ok". The major issue was the inconsistency in preparation. Some medallions were perfect, others vastly undercooked. They also serve a home made steak sauce which again was "ok". The star of the meal was a cheesecake with some type of locally grown orange sauce reduction. It was absolutely delicious and I'm not terribly big on deserts. Service was excellent. For this one I wouldn't go out of my way and will probably pass on my next trip through here. read more

We were staying for one night and found this little place for supper. It's a small and quiet town and this place was fantastic! We were able to sit outside. Hey aren't observing and social distancing or wearing masks, but we did. The service was good and polite. The food is delicious. I had the house pasta in a white sauce with grilled chicken and my husband had the crab cake sandwich and garlic mashed potatoes. Both were delicious. I would highly recommend it! read more

One of the worst dining out experiences I have ever had. Went there yesterday, Saturday, March 6, 2022, around 2 p.m. It took almost an hour and a half to get our food. Wrong beer delivered, which took 30 minutes to correct. The ridiculous wait resulted in fried redfish sandwich ($16) that made McDonald's fish filet look like fine dining. Small, thin, overcooked piece of fish on enormous hamburger bun (not "brioche," as advertised), which more than generously overlapped the tiny filet. Served with a runny sauce of some kind (not tartar), and spring mix thrown over the top. The fries were a grease-laden, overcooked, limp, brown shoe string mess that I would have thrown in the garbage if one were near the table. Got a replacement order from another staff passing by (not our waitress), which were remarkably similar to the first batch and also inedible. My friend got the grilled mahi mahi, which, again, was an overcooked, dried out pathetic little piece of fish not worthy to be served to a paying customer, or my cat. Grits arrived as a solidified lump. My other dining friend got the Shepherd's pie, which she liked. Left spending $73 for three meals and three beers, and left HUNGRY. Will NEVER frequent this establishment again. Abysmal. I feel completely ripped off and abused. Apparently, the "Dirty Pecan Bike Ride" had occurred before we arrived, and many of its participants had dined there. This review is a bit late. We visited back in November 17, and I kept forgetting to post it. Enough with my excuses. We came for lunch and I can imagine it is a different world on a busy night, but we had no real wait time. The menu was interesting and had many options for burgers and seafood. This includes bison and redfish. I had the Rev burger and it was excellent and freshly prepared, the fries were excellent as well. Don't confuse this place as a burger joint as their menu is on par with many upscale eateries in the country. This place has a sophisticated and creative vibe that shows in the food and the decor. We stopped in Rev Cafe after a great day of paddle boarding. It's a quaint, charming place. We had lattes - which were delicious and a savior after paddling all day. I had the Monti Burger and my husband had the Jambalaya - both were fantastic. Our server Eric, was terrific, kind, and knowledgeable of the menu. We traveled all the way from Jacksonville and it was nice to see a small local brewery putting out some great food and drinks! An amazing experience overall. read more

Overall very pleased with the restaurant - I had the strawberry salad w/grill chicken and balsamic dressing which was amazingly delicious. It took a About 20 to 30 minutes for us to get waited on but the amazing food offset the wait. Most restaurants are shortstaffed these days and some restaurants have more trouble with it than others. A delightful place!! First in the door greeted to feel like we were locals ( Norm!). Great menu, great waitress, great ambiance if you like fun, lively atmosphere!!! This place is good! We were in Monticello for the night and stopped by randomly with no idea of the menu. What a surprise! I was impressed with the menu, anything from steak and venison burgers to Shepard's pie. We were simply wanting a drink and appetizer so ordered the butter bread and friend green tomatoes. Oh my goodness...I was imagining a loaf of French bread with hone butter but this was so much better. A warm, thick, oat like bread with warm drizzly honey butter. I wasn't sure if it was like dessert before dinner or breakfast. We gobbled it up. The green tomatoes had a ton of flavor drizzled with feta and sauce. We definitely want to go back to try more of the menu! For drinks, I tried the blueberry wine (very tasty) and was impressed with the beer/wine menu. There is a nice patio and plenty of indoor seating, along with a bar area. We live in Tallahassee and I'll be bringing visitors here next time. read more

I'm in town visiting family for the holidays. We decided to try the new restaurant in town Rev Cafe. Well it's very inviting as far as curb appeal goes. We walk up the walk and there is seating outside on a lovely day or inside, your choice. We went in. The hostess gave no eye contact and zero greeting. She simply picked up two menus and took us to a table. The next person we encounter was the lovely server. Perfect smile and a greeting. From this point forward our experience was very good. Had to stop in Monticello for work and didn't know what to expect for food. Rev had great reviews so I stopped in and glad I did. Grabbed a late lunch on a Thursday with a colleague. Good beer selection; they don't have a lot of craft brews but most are local. We got some burger and love that they give us choices for the type of meat. I ordered the amo tu with bison. I love a good burger and Rev makes a damn good burger. Fries are fresh cut and seasoned perfectly. Also learned that they make their own pasta and sauce every day. read more

We shared the kale salad which was excellent with tasty kale greens, bacon and apple. Also shared the Rev Up burger with fried green tomato, bacon and fried egg. If that wasn't enough we closed out the meal with Satsuma Cheesecake, OMG, one of the best cheesecakes we have ever tasted. We tried this place on a drive from Tallahassee back to Jacksonville because the dismal fast food and truck stop options right off I-10 did not appeal to us. I'm so glad we did! Rev Cafe is just a few minutes off the interstate but well worth it. The service was fast and friendly, and the decor a charming mix of farmhouse and industrial. Plus there is a lovely view of the idyllic Monticello courthouse. I had the Burger special, which that day was bacon, goat cheese, fried onion and jelly. It was delicious!! Husband had the venison chili and a Caesar salad, both of which he liked. We both had tea, which tasted really fresh and they have that great super small ice. Kids menu has about 4 choices, all of which come with apples in addition to another side. My kids ordered chicken fingers and fries and they looked good to me. The service was phenomenal! The pink lemonade is made in house and delicious. The kids had grilled shrimp which was cooked well but a small portion. I ordered the shrimp and grits which tasted amazing! You only get 6 shrimp on the shrimp and grits. My husband had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes. He really enjoyed it and you get a half of a chicken which was more than plenty! Overall good restaurant, prices are a little high for the portion sizes of some plates. read more

We had a terrible experience last night. We had a reservation, but waited 2 hours for our meals. Appetizers were served, but no silverware was available so we waited 30 minutes for the waitress to return with 4 forks and knives for a party of 8. We offered to use plastic silverware , but were told they were out. Several items on the menu were not available and the waitress had to keep returning to let us know our orders needed to be changed. 2 hours later, our entrees arrived. We had to request to go boxes because we were late to our 8pm show. No comp or apology was offered. I'm not sure what has happened at The Rev because I've eaten here three times in the past before shows at the Opera House with no issues. read more
