I personally wouldn't recommend, 1 ; the sides ain't what you expect , the Potato Salad is watery , baked beans DONT taste like baked beans , the only good taste is the sauce . . for the plates to be $15-$20. Rev. Dosty's BBQ is some of the best that I've had! I live out of town and have a hard time getting there on Saturdays, and even then, he often isn't open. I wish he would add another day. The meat has a delicious and rich smokiness that is hard to beat! The sides are decent, and they work well because the meat is so good. The cake is from a box and is just okay. I'm glad that he has someone that he has passed his craft on to, so that it doesn't die with him, like so many great bbq artists that I've known. read more

I had a tritip sandwich. I really liked the portion, it also came with a side, i choose mac and cheese. I didnt care for the mac and cheese, maybe it was just me but it was just lacking taste like it needed salt or more cheese. The tri-tip sandwich was good but was drenched in bbq sauce. The truth! Talk bout hidden gem, diamond in the rough. What an unassuming location nestled in the heart of DPH! Kitty corner to the fuzz! Lol. Nothing fancy on the outside but boy can the Rev cook! And very nice peeps serving up some great food, ample portions at a fair price. Wish they were open more, but then we'd be spoiled. Look forward to many more meals from this gem. Whatever is in the baked beans makes these beans off the hook. Will try the Mac and cheese next time. BTW I got the 4 meat meal w 2 sides. Talk about delicious barbecue!! Dosty's has the most tender tri- tip I have ever had. It's the only tri-tip I can even eat now. All the meats are delicious, and the sauce is the best I have ever tasted. I've been going for years, and they never ever disappoint. There's no point to put in an order to be picked up at a later time because they don't set food aside for those orders. I called in 3 hrs ahead of when I wanted to pick up my food and when I get there, I'm only told that they were out of chicken. I also clearly ordered Mac and cheese, which no one told me they were also out of, and when I get home and open my box, I have green beans. I wasted $20 on like 3 ribs (since they were out of chicken) and 5 slices of tri tip and got my order changed without even letting me know. This trip was a waste of money. read more

So I was told this place is really good. I called in a order for ribs, hot links, Mac and cheese with baked beans. When I showed up a half hour after I order I go to the door and there are a few people out there waiting. So I get in line and wait... And wait...I ask for my order and give her my name then I wait.... And wait.. Finally after 10 min of being passed up I asked for the last time. Finally get my order. So I go and eat the Mac and cheese was pretty good but going to lie, the baked beans I'll never get again, the ribs were ok kind of tough and swimming in bbq sauce, and the hot link was ok it was hot but nothing special. All in all the food was ok the service could use work. Might have to come back for that Mac and cheese though read more

I don't care what you do in Sacramento you should get by here on a Saturday morning around 10:45 (be early). It matters not what some of the reviews are saying about potatoes salad being store bought; that's a lie. If you ever want some home style bbq go here. The amount of meat they give you for the price is great!!! The ribs and tri tip are very tender. And the BBQ sauce is tasty. It's a little wait but the people there are so genuine and great that the wait isn't even an issue. This place is a serious hole in the wall, but I mean it in a positive way! I drove into the parking lot which had no designated stalls, but there was a gentleman who flagged me to park next to the grill. As soon as I opened my car door, the smoke from the smoker was permeating through the air. So I ordered tri tip dinner with double meat, Mac and cheese, and green beans for my son and the tri tip/ribs combo dinner with potato salad and green beans for myself. The orders came with bread and a slice of cake. This is a to go place. As I was heading back to my car, I was talking to the owner, The Rev. I told him that I was from San Jose and I was here for a b-ball tournament. He told one of the workers to hook me up with some chicken, links, and a side just for coming all the way from San Jose. OMG, the tri tip and the ribs were so delicious. They were well seasoned with herbs and spices. The bbq sauce was sweet, but it wasn't overpowering. I tasted a hint of vinegar in the sauce. The potato salad was good too. The green beans had a great smoky flavor. I believe there were pieces of smoked turkey or ham hock cooked with them. My son said his Mac and cheese was really good. Overall, this spot is great and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants some good down home bbq. They are only open on Saturdays! read more
