Overall, I really like Vasa Fitness. I've been a member for 2 years, and overall have had positive…read moreexperiences. It's by far one of the most affordable gyms around with friendly staff, professional trainers, excellent classes, a great selection of machines, equipment and facilities including pool, steam and sauna. Lately, however, some negatives have been marring the overall experience. VASA did a massive membership drive/upgrade at the end of 2025 which has increased foot traffic dramatically. It's rare to visit now and not have a wait to use machines (especially treadmills). And speaking of treadmills, there are currently 3 treadmills out of order, and it appears that 1 or 2 are missing, given the spacing in the first row of machines. My second and bigger criticism is the subpar housekeeping, specifically the men's locker room toilets. There has been an ongoing issue with at least one toilet being clogged by paper and waste. And often multiple stalls with no toilet paper. There has been one stall marked "out of order" for a week. Yesterday and today there was another toilet clogged, and the other two stalls with no paper. Other times I've seen toilets clogged and water that has overflowed. Really disgusting to walk through that! Overall, I give this gym 4 stars for equipment and facilities offered. Sadly, they deserve 1 star for maintenance and housekeeping.

Disgusting. I joined Vasa in Wheaton when it opened. The conditions are pretty gross. I have…read moredocumented these complaints. Not sure I can post them here. I will try. I've tried to address this at Wheaton VASA and through corporate. All I've received in return is form letters and assurances. Pool: In the pool, the ledge on each of the three swimming lanes is covered in dirt and grime. Items float at the bottom of the pool, such as Band-Aids and gauze. In the corners of the pool, sediment, mostly dirt and sand, settle in the bottom of the pool. Interestingly, the pool is often closed. Not sure why they do such a terrible job of keeping it clean. Hot tub: hot tub is equally repulsive and not maintained properly. The intakes are covered with black mold and grime. For some reason, they close it every few days in the morning. Often you cannot use it. Seems like it would be better to clean it. (although, I'm not sure they ever do.) when customers are not using it. In off hours. Water access: some bottle fillers / water fountains Have been broken for months. (The one by the sauna, for example). Nothing seems to be maintained well. Locker rooms: these are bad! 1) the shower stalls in the men's locker room smell like a truck stop urinal. Flies Buzz around the stall as you shower. This indicates maggots are in the drain. It's been like this for months. 2) there is insufficient seating in the locker room. Some people spread all their positions on the benches, leaving no room for other others to change. This could be remedied easily but VASA, both locally and nationally is non-responsive to suggestions of customers. 3) the air vents on the ceiling, appear to be clogged with mold. This can't be healthy. 4) the hooks in the shower stalls have been broken off for almost a year. Any items you bring with you to the shower Must sit on the floor in the shower. What is most troubling is the lack of response to the lack of cleanliness. There is a reason VASA is cheap. It is built upon not expending money for cleanliness. They rely on customers, not caring that they may catch a disease from the unsanitary conditions. It is part of the VASA business model, I suppose. If enough of us bring attention to the unhealthy conditions, perhaps VASA will fulfill their obligations. I suggest reporting it to the DuPage County health department.

Personal training- Minus 3 stars Mike and Ashton offer sub-par training... cheap prices equates lackluster effort from trainers. Sessions scheduled for one hour, yet it usually ends 10-15 minutes early. Mike does not warm up and when questioned he claimed the first workout was the warm up. Ashton prefers to use the same three warmups and cool downs. Red flag because knowledgeable trainers utilizes a variety of warm up and cool downs. Ashton fails to differentiate workouts during group training. He thinks a modification is the same as differentiation. On numerous occasions, I informed Ashton that I only drink water during strenuous workouts. I never needed water during his training sessions. Can you believe he suggested that I should pretend like I was taking a drink during group training? Wtf? When I complained about the poor training experiences, Ashton became sensitive and no longer wanted to train with me . He directed Mike to cancel my training session 20 minutes into the workout. Mike did not want to issue a refund. After I complained to the corporate office and BBB, I received a refund. Now, I'm paying more for training with a trainer who has years of experience. Absolute difference when you receive challenging workouts with cool downs and warm-up that target my problems areas.

I say most of it because my diet has not been perfect. All of us hope to achieve certain goals but the reality is that only we can achieve or goals and maintain them! Joe has always been a great motivator to get my diet back on track and is always willing to suggest better ways of eating to help me with a "complete" lifestyle. Working out is only a small part of it and a trainer can only motivate you for a healthy and balanced diet. It's up to me and when I fail I only have myself to blame. After all these years, thank you Joe for being a great motivator!

Think of a cross fit gym set up without all the scary cross fit people intimidating you. This gym is only used for personal training so there is never more than a few people there during your session. Joe is genuinely committed to you and wants you to succeed. He's really good at what he does, will call you out when needed -- ie. you ate like crap, you cancelled so you could watch the Bachelor, etc etc. He really knows nutrition and he changes up the workouts every time. He doesn't just willy nilly push you, he has you wear a heart monitor so he knows how far to push you and to make sure what he's doing is effective. I really have no complaints and working with Joe has been wonderful. I have gotten so much stronger in just a couple months. The education about nutrition has been key in helping me work towards my weight loss goals --- if only he could transfer self discipline to me too! If you're trying to decide whether to get a gym membership or try a personal training session with Joe, just do the personal training with Joe. You won't regret it and you won't get your a$$ to the McGym anyhow and you know it. That's why you're researching personal trainers. Buy his Groupon. Get hooked. Get fit. Just do it.
