I came here in December (after Christmas) to take my mom out for some Old Forge pizza, but we never actually got to eat here. We came here a bit past noon on a weekday and the place was deserted. We were sat down immediately, but then our server disappeared. Meanwhile, a small group (maybe 5 people) came in and we also seated immediately. They had called ahead so their food was ready for them and you could tell by the way the staff was talking with them that they were regulars here. However, during all this (we were the only 2 groups in the restaurant), we still hadn't received a menu or been seen again by our server. This proceeded for 15-20 minutes, at which point we gave up and left due to their horrible service. We went across the street to Arcaro & Genell's where we had immediate service despite the place being fairly crowded. I'll never try coming here again and I'll make sure all my family in NEPA know where not to go to eat in Old Forge. read more

Not good. We ordered a tray of red pizza and a tray of white pizza. We tried to order the garlic fries, but were told they were out of garlic. When the pizza arrived at the table it was really disappointing. It didn't look very good and it was also cold. There was only one other table in the entire restaurant while we were there and it was a Saturday night. How can our food be cold? After our cold pizza dinner I read a lot of Facebook reviews from various years also stating they received cold pizza. How does that happen so often and never get corrected? Revello's is an occasional stop off the turnpike on the way up to our cabin, but I'm not sure for how much longer. Our most recent visit- the first in several years- made me wonder why we go to the effort. The pizza is unique, but I still can't say if it's good unique or bad unique. I'm not sure I understand the mystique. I'm not sure if it's me- that I don't get it- or if I'm in the right, but looking at other Yelp reviews, looks like I have plenty of company in my 'what is this??" camp. Unique CAN be good...in some circumstances. Pizza really does taste like it has American cheese...that gummy top of the mouth, grilled cheese with pizza sauce feeling. 12 pieces of it. To their credit, interior renovations have brought the atmosphere out of the godfather era. New wall art is a touch tacky, but much improved over our last visit. Old Forge must have hired a PR firm, proclaiming it the "Pizza Capital of the World." This title is backed by the claim of having more pizzerias per capita than anywhere in the world - as well being the subjective "Best" of course. Because Arturo's is closed on Sunday's to walk-in traffic, I went to Revello's. The cheese is interesting... at first I thought it was a blend of a few cheeses - some sharp, some smooth, mixing in small shards of onions which definitely piqued my interest. The way it sticks to my teeth and roof of my mouth makes me believe there is some generican american in there, BUT from all reliable resources, what makes old forge old forge is the BRICK CHEESE. The sauce is seemingly normal, and the crust makes me wonder if they bake it on the premises. Either way, it is definitely pre-baked then topped when creating your red pizza - I took at long peak inside the kitchen manned by high schoolers. It's essentially a variation of a bar pie - A hastily put together production from a bar kitchen that developed a fever for over the years. I can see the fever. It has a swell taste. It is totally unique, not necessarily great, but like a White Castle - all of the sudden a craving hits you. Plus the bar/restaurant would be a great place to have cheap, fun times with friends. Make sure to order by the "tray", if you say "pie" they will for sure know you're not a PA native. Also, coming here gives you a chance to speak in northern drawl without people lookin at you funny (or caring if they do). Of note is the preparation of a takeout order. After your tray is ready, they put the open top boxes in a large fitted brown paper bag then fold up the sides and twist the edges - most likely a mandatory part of initiation for a new employee. How did they know the secret ??? Everything in a brown paper bag tastes so much better. Old Forge is a good experience to have under your belt, but mostly if you are interested in going to Disneyland, seeing the Eiffel Tower, and looking out cracks in the Liberty Bell. It is a tourism ploy. Definitely a unique pizza, but nothing compared to a little town about 150 miles east or even some country over the Atlantic, through the Strait of Gibraltar and up a toe. read more

I'm new to Old Forge and was recommended this establishment by many people. Our first night in our house we ordered a half tray of their white broccoli pizza- delicious no complaints. Today, I ordered mozzarella sticks, salad, garlic bread, tray of red pizza, and boneless wings : a total of $48. I arrived at their location around 35 min after I order the food and subsequently waited nearly a full hour and forty-five minutes to receive my order. I get home- and half the order is missing. Called 5x and was put on hold for 4 minutes and then hung up on. Even when a business is swamped- it is important to recognize and compensate for taking the order and quoting appropriate wait times and updating clientele about any delays . After being a customer for over 25 years, I have learned that the Revellos I've experienced over this time is no longer. Walked in and sat at the bar, after a couple minutes a waitress came behind the bar and tidied some glasses then was about to leave the bar and simply said with an attitude 'NEED SOMETHING?' I told her I want to place an order. Instead of dealing with her attitude, I left. I now understand the empty restaurant on a Saturday night. Big fan of Revello's pizza! Revello's is a quaint corner restaurant in little Old Forge, PA. Really yummy pizza, good service, nice atmosphere, maybe a smidge more expensive than it should be...but I guess you're paying for the "Pizza Capitol yadda yadda yadda" nonsense. Much has been made of 'Old Forge' style pizza, probably because of the somewhat goofy 'pizza capital of the world' town slogan. Old Forge style pizza comes in rectangles, roughly the size of a cafeteria tray. (You order by saying 'I want two trays of red") The cheese is slightly different in each of the restaurants; some combination of different cheeses usually including American and very little mozzarella along with shaved onions, seasonings, etc. A white pizza is usually a double crusted pizza that is the size and approximate shape of a large hardcover book. I do know that some people absolutely HATE Old Forge pizza because it's not like the cheesey, cookie-cutter pizza from their favorite place...but you can't please everyone; there are some knuckleheads who badmouth Buffalo wings for being hot...like that wasn't the point all along. I guess what I'm trying to say is OF pizza is different than regular pizza, so your expectations should be different, just like when you go to Chicago you need to recalibrate your expectations also. Revello's is really good, it's one of those places that you don't visit every week, but after a few months I see a sign or hear the name and it's all I can think about until I get some. Heard a lot about Old Forge pizza over the years and heard this was the place to go. Took 15+ minutes to be helped, and a LONG time for our "tray". Place was totally dead. Not a big deal, the pizza's the attraction here. The crust and the sauce, solid. Crust was reminiscent of a good Brooklyn Sicilian slice and the sauce tasted fresh and without much filler. The cheese on the other hand was real bad--and the pizza was LOADED with cheese. If you asked for extra cheese on a normal pizza elsewhere, this would be more than that. My knock on getting pizza outside of the normal pizza cities is typically that one or more key ingredient always tastes store-bought, and this cheese tasted right out of the refrigerator aisle. I'm not willing to write off Old Forge entirely based on this experience, I've heard that some places are better (even if this is the most well-known). But this was not a good pizza. read more

There's nothing quite as nostalgic as an Old Forge native than the smell of pizza throughout the town on a warm Friday night in late August, right before a football game. Revello's is one of the places that adds to this feeling. The pizza is divine with a perfect blend of cheeses and sauce. Typical Old Forge style, as expected. Crust could be a little crispier at times, but overall it's pretty great. It really reminds me of home. Only negative is that they stopped serving RC cola products a few years back. If I could give this place a 0 I would. We walked in and there was only one table occupied. We couldn't see any staff. We waited for a minute and then seated ourselves. We noticed a waitress on the phone in the back so we waited patiently. She kept walking out into the dining room, on the phone, and she definitely saw us seated. After about 15 minutes of waiting, we got up and asked her for menus. She said "oh you need menus?" We said yes and waited a few more minutes for her to bring us old paper menus that were torn and warped from use. She told us we could only order pitchers of drinks which seemed very silly. So so disappointed. My family and I have been going here since I was a child. Its a special treat, as Old Forge is a ride for us.... the classic red is soooo good. Over the years we have always had good service and great pizza. However, after our experience 2 Fridays ago we won't be going back. It was my dads birthday. He and my mother arrived at 5pm to secure a big booth for the 5 adults 2 children party. We ordered about 5:45/6. (They had mozzerella stix apps while they waited for me to arrive from work). We got our first red at about 7. We asked about our double crust white and the waitess said it will be coming, just takes longer. Our 2nd red came @730 - still no White. She says sorry and promises its coming. Finally, at 8 pm when we were all long done eating the red n sitting for 3 hours now, she comes and says " im sorry we ran out". Ran out of pizza at a pizza place by 8 pm on a Friday night???? They comped our mozzerella stix and apologized which was nice, but the whole thing was just odd. Ran out of dough or cheese? If I can give this place no stars I would! I understand that your busy especially when it's snow forge. I'm a head chef but this is something that doesn't get thrown at you over night! First we wait at the door and get told to sit anywhere. We would have if a table was cleaned! We sat at a table that sits 8 there's only 4 of us! We arrived at Revellos on a Wednesday night not to crowded. We ordered 6 cuts well done and ordered meatballs. They had no meatballs and the pizza came out not well done like we asked plus they served the pizza on a dinner plate!! What Italian restaurant doesn't have meatballs!!!!! Not sure what happened to Revellos but we will not be going there anymore. No wonder why not too many people where there. Over the years I have heard nothing but good things about "Old Forge Style" pizza. So, being only a couple hours away, we made the trek to Old Forge to visit the "self proclaimed" pizza capital of the world. When we arrived in town, there certainly were a lot of pizza places. We decided to go to Revello's as it had a lot of good reviews and was open (it was a Sunday). Upon entering the restaurant the few locals and the bartender kind of stared us down as if they could smell we weren't locals. The place was kind of dim inside, but overall it was lit well enough. The decor wasn't too bad, and I wouldn't call it dumpy, but it was nicer than a neighborhood dive bar. The waitress, a young girl, wasn't much of a waitress, more of an order taker. We began with our drink orders. Cousin and I asked for coke....no coke, no pepsi-the only cola was RC. This was a sure sign of things to come. Who the hell serves/asks for RC? I didnt even know they made it anymore! Oh well, she came back with our RC and we placed our order. We ordered a "Red tray." We waited about 20 minutes and our red tray came out. Supposedly its called Red Tray because the pizza has sauce and is served on a tray. Well, in my opinion its called red tray because it was a pizza served on a red cafeteria tray (ghetto!). So, we looked at this pizza before eating it. The pizza was square like sicilian, but it was not as thick. It was maybe half the thickness of sicilian. There was sauce on the pizza, but it was't a lot. The cheese was a mixture of white and yellow cheeses. Overall it looked good, but not great. We each took a corner of the "tray" and proceeded to dig in. The crust had a decent taste to it. It was light which surprised me...kind of had a pan pizza taste to it. The sauce was sweet, but as mentioned, not a lot of sauce on it. The cheese...well, the cheese was pretty nasty. It was kind of creamy, and definitely wasn't mozzarella or provolone. I think it was American cheese, but am not positive. If it wasnt for the cheese, this "pizza" may have been palatable, but the cheese was awful. Overall, Revello's/Old Forge Pizza was a letdown. Don't buy into the hype about Old Forge....look for a traditional pizza place. I think my cousin summed it up best when he made this statement: "The people here love this square pizza because they haven't discovered round pizza yet." Be prepared for the first impression to include an odor that will remind you of your grandmother's house. Not the good smell but the old smell but you get used to it quickly. At the same time is the impression your time machine has arrived. The furniture is 50's genre but in good condition. Adorning the walls are old photos and some of famous people that ate here. Hillary Clinton may have been one of them but I think she grew up in Wilkes Barre or Scranton. I'm here for lunch and for most of the time the only person in here. The older woman putting tray (that's what they call pies in this region) boxes together is super nice and helpful and takes my order. I order a couple of cuts (that's what they call slices in this region) and a house salad with cheese. She's very happy I'm getting the cheese on the salad as it sounds like a specialty. Fresh and crunchy salad but the special cheese is just shredded pizza cheese. I guess a regional thing is also that they use American Cheese not mozzarella like in Jersey. When I get my two cuts I can confirm that the same cheese is used all around. Slightly disappointing as my white and broccoli slice loses it better tasting mozzarella-broccoli flavor partnership. The Red cut disappoints also. The canned pizza sauce and American Cheese mixture, cut exactly in a rectangular supermarket frozen pizza shape, tastes and textures exactly like a frozen slice. I really don't consider myself a pizza snob and I hope the entrees are better and more flavorful. read more

The white and broccoli white were the same as the red, except stuffed (so had a top layer of crust) and no red sauce. Was ok as well, although I preferred the red. This is the BEST pizza hands-down. Revello's masters everything you want in a piece of pizza--the bottom of the crust is crispy with a soft, chewy center, topped with sweet sauce and gooey cheese. We both wished we hadn't gotten full so we could have kept eating. We live two hours away and will definitely find an excuse to drive up to get this pizza again. My wife and I ate here, (well, we tried to eat their pizza), about 10 years ago, and have never gone back, that's how unimpressed we were with "Old Forge style" pizza. From what I understand, things haven't changed there much. Eating their pizza reminds me of my roommate back in college. He would make his version of pizza in his toaster oven by spreading Ragu pizza quick sauce over white bread and topping it with american cheese. That's exactly what Revello's pizza tastes like. Blech. There was nothing good about the pizza at Revello's. It took forever for our waitress to take our order, and when we received the red pizza, it was not thoroughly cooked. We sent it back and when it came back, the cheese was a little more melted, but the pizza was still not cooked. The waitress said that it was supposed to be like that. Besides the bread being doughy in the middle, the sauce tasted like something I could buy in a jar at the supermarket. The mushrooms were from a can, and it was just unbelievably unimpressive. I was excited to eat at Revello's since there is always talk of "Old Forge" pizza being the best in the world. My experience was less than appetizing. I ordered gnocci's and meatballs and my friend ordered cheese ravioli. Both portions were EXTREMELY small for the $9+ each they charged for the meals, and the pasta sauce was watery and flavorless. I shook tons of grated cheese onto the pasta hoping to somehow improve it, but the damage was irreplaceable. After being so disappointed with my first choice, I then ordered a few pieces of the double crusted white pizza (with the intention of eating some then and reheating the rest for work the next day) The pizza was so greasy I could have rang it out in the box. It definitely wasn't anything compared to other double crusted white pizza I have had in the past.
