Great organic eggs and meats (chicken, pork, turkey and beef). Pet milk too. Extremely nice staff. Always stop when we are near there.

The location is convenient as it is just down from Whole Foods, on Elliott, and in the little strip across from Cook Out. My friends from Florida always want to go to ALPACA as soon as they arrive in Chapel Hill. I eat at Alpaca several times a month, and sometimes twice a week. The majority of the student population has left for the summer, and that impacts local businesses. Let's support ALPACA and Chapel Hill businesses. Joseph is the GM. He is welcoming and goes out of his way to help.

This was my first time ordering from Alpaca Chicken. I had been curious to see what all the rave…read morereviews were about. I do not live in Chapel Hill. I live about an hour and a half away, but whenever I have an appointment at UNC, I usually try one of the area's highly rated restaurants. After my doctor's appointment, I decided to place a large order so my family and I could try several menu items. I ordered Chop Chop, 22oz. Jarritos Mango drink, Arroz Chaufa, Green Beans, Lomo Saltado, Rice, Fries, Pollo Saltado, Chicken Soup, Two Half-Chicken, Green & Yellow Sauce, Two orders of Tres Leches Cake, and Flan. I placed the order at approximately 3:25 p.m., and the app notified me that it was ready at 3:45 p.m. I picked it up around 4:00 p.m. The restaurant did not appear to be very busy, so I trusted that the staff had checked my large order before handing me the bags. Unfortunately, when I arrived home, I discovered that some of my orders were missing. I called the Chapel Hill location and initially spoke with an employee who told me I could drive back to Chapel Hill to get the missing drinks. I explained that I live approximately an hour and a half away. Driving another three-hour round trip in an SUV and spending additional money on gas would not be reasonable as they should have been placed with my order in the first place. The employee apologized and said she could not issue a refund at all because she did not have access to the system and no manager was available. She told me that someone would call me back. I later received a call from someone named Lucia or Lucita, if I remember correctly. She explained that she could not process the refund at that moment because she was not at the restaurant, but she promised to take care of it the following day. I told her that was fine as long as she followed through and would not forget. It has now been a week, and I have not received the promised refund or any further communication. I am attaching a copy of the receipt that was attached to one of my food bags. The receipt appears to have been used as a packing checklist, with handwritten check marks beside many of the items. However, the drink listed on the receipt does not appear to have been checked off. Considering the size of this order, someone should have carefully checked the quantity and contents of every bag before handing them to me. The restaurant was not busy when I picked up the order, and the receipt provided a clear checklist that could have been used to catch the missing items. Mistakes can happen, and the missing drinks alone could have been easily resolved. What is most disappointing is that I was promised a refund and then received no follow-up. Good customer service requires honesty, accountability, and following through on commitments. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend the Chapel Hill location. _______________________ MY RESPONSE TO OWNER: As stated above, I have already reached out to the Chapel Hill location and explained the situation in detail. I agreed and trusted that she would keep her word. More than a week later, I still have not received the promised refund or any further communication. Your response now asks me to contact the restaurant again, even though I have already done exactly that and was promised a resolution. I should not have to repeatedly chase your business for a refund after your employees failed to include part of my paid order and then failed to honor their promise to correct it. The appropriate response would be for management to review the order, contact me directly using the information already associated with it, and process the promised refund. The responsibility to resolve this should not continue to be placed on the customer. Your public response also contains unfilled template language such as "contact_name" and "contact_title," which makes it appear that my review and the details I provided were not carefully read before the response was posted. I am still waiting for Alpaca Chicken to follow through and make this right.

"Wonderful roasted chicken near Durham South Square"…read more I've loved the other two Durham Alpaca locations for years, but somehow never noticed this one, tucked back beside Chuck E Cheeses at what I think used to be a Boston Market building many years ago (and across the street from Sam's Club & Target). I was very impressed at the large outdoor seating area with the string lights-- looked very modern and inviting. I ordered takeout online, so I was only inside for a moment, but the restaurant was very new and clean. They had the typical area on the side for condiments, including their famous spicy green and milder yellow sauces (and little cups with lids for takeout). I ordered a quarter-chicken dark (always delicious) along with fries and rice & beans. The rice & beans had a 50 cent extra fee. My wife got the quarter chicken dark with fries and maduros (fried sweet plantains). The food was ready when I arrived, and I was handed it as soon as I said my name upon arrival. It was packaged in nice plastic containers-- not so great environmentally but they did keep the heat in and maintained the food well on the drive home. Everything was delicious as always. The chicken is always SUPER moist and tender and scrumptious, made even more amazing with some green & yellow sauce. Their fries are moist and tasty, and the rice & beans had a good flavor. My wife was happy with her food too. The price is really good-- right around $10 for the quarter dark meal deals, before tax and tip. And it's a good portion size overall, too... enough that you're not hungry after, but it's not "over the top" huge. I've always been a big Alpaca fan, and I'm glad to see them spreading to other locations with the same excellent food and fast/ easy service. One tip-- if you order takeout, use their website, not commercial ones like Uber Eats or Grubhub, so you can save a little money. I'm sure I'll be back-- loved the look of that outdoor area!

I went with the Peruvian fried rice, yuca, tostones, maduros, two chicken orders 1/4 and 1/2 chicken, and frijoles. The only small mishap was that I was given two 1/4 chickens when they were supposed to do one 1/4 and one 1/2. Since I didn't notice until after the fact, I had to make the trip back. The staff handled it very professionally, apologized for the mistake, and happily replaced it with a brand-new half chicken without any hassle. Everyone was friendly and made things right. Mistakes can happen anywhere, but great customer service is how a business responds, and Alpaca did exactly that. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in the area!

Menus were present everywhere, basically little explanation, though. 1/4 chicken, 1/2 chicken, or full chicken. Hmmm sounds interesting. Got a 1/4 chicken combo, which comes with 2 sides. got the green beans, and everything else was some kind of really heavy carb. I asked if they could do something that didn't have that may carbs, and they said they had a side salad. Ok, that's cool, I'll do that. The beans were sauteed in a pound of butter, kind of mushy, the salad was about 1/2 cup in a very small boat. IDK, maybe growing up on a farm has still spoiled me years later. The 1/4 chicken was almost 12 bucks, and consisted of a leg and a thigh... I guess that is a quarter chicken. Ok, fine. When I got the plate, it was free range central American size chicken, if you know what I mean. Very small, skinny, not very much meat. It tasted ok, and I ate everything but the beans :( ... I was starving by the end of my 6-minute meal. I should have gotten the half chicken at a minimum, maybe the full, then the price jumps to 16 and 30 bucks respectively. Ate a bag of jerky when I got back to my office. It was fairly clean, and people were coming around to collect the trash which is nice. Not enough for me to be a comeback guest, though. It seemed popular enough, though, not packed but steady.

The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and well-priced, whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout. We almost always order the ¼ white meat chicken and pair it with two sides: usually white rice, maduros (plantains), or green beans. It's simple, but it's done extremely well every time. It also feels like we aren't eating super unhealthy when we pick Alpaca. The chicken is always tender and juicy, and the portions are generous for the price. What really completes the meal, though, are the sauces. Make sure to get both the yellow sauce and the green (spicy) sauce. They take everything to another level. Affordable, consistent, and easy to keep coming back to. We're loyal customers for a reason.

The store was very cute, with a large stuffed llama near the check-out desk. The restaurant is chipotle-style. You choose a cut and amount of roast chicken. and then go down the line and pick out your sides and other goodies. For the price, you get a good portion. I got a half-chicken meal, dark meat only, with beans and French fries, as well as a chicha morada beverage. Their sauces are off to the side and self-serve, which I love. The roast chicken was delicious, so well-seasoned and tender. Honestly I did not need the sauce to eat it. The beans were smoky and I appreciate the fact that it was portioned separately to prevent the fries from getting soggy. The fries were not that fresh, and they had the skins on. I would not get these next time. The sauces were good but not mind-blowing. The green sauce in particular was sharp and salty but not flavorful. The orange sauce tasted mostly like mayo. However, again, since all the food was well-seasoned, I didn't really need the sauces. Alpaca is a great, quick, and healthy option for tasty Peruvian food. I would definitely come back for my quick fix, but I would probably skip the sauces.

The chicken is the star here. Smoky from the charcoal grill, incredibly juicy, and seasoned so well that it honestly doesn't need anything extra... but then you add the sauces and it's game over. The green sauce brings a bright, herby kick while the yellow sauce adds a creamy tanginess that somehow makes everything taste even better. Pro tip: Don't skip the sauces. Better yet, order extra because you'll immediately regret not having more. This was my first order from the Apex location, but it definitely won't be my last. When we arrived, we had to take some time to decipher the menu from afar. The staff weren't very friendly or helpful. We checked out and I ordered an horchata and my husband ordered an Inca cola. The process went through and then he was told they were out of Inca cola even though there were bottles and cans around the kitchen, just not cold. They wouldn't offer those, I guess it was for display only? Checking out took forever because they had to issue a refund and they didn't know how. I did enjoy the chicken, especially with the yellow sauce, though I enjoyed the green as well. The sides were just okay. My husband's pollo saltado was delicious but the chicken wasn't the same as mine, which mine was much better. The horchata was really good.
