I've had a great experience with Rex Auto Services. They're honest, reasonably priced, and provide fast service. One time, I had my car towed to their shop because it was making a strange squealing noise. They inspected it, couldn't find any major issue, and didn't charge me anything for the inspection. Needed a to repair a slow leak in tire and they were quick and efficient for going price.

My dad took his Yaris here for his AC not working. They charged him $350 and said the problem was fixed. Only to realized his AC still doesnt work. Looking over the receipt, they replace a fuse and recharge the AC... that was $350 and still the same problem. Shame on you taking advantage of a 75 year old man. I warned him taking it to aftermarket shop. He will be taking the car back for a follow up repair. Hope they do the right thing and not take advantage of a senior AGAIN!!! read more

My car rolled over a small screw and became completely flat. I was riding around with a spare for a couple of days. Rainy season started in SF and riding with a spare while driving my toddler was getting stressful. Unfortunately, many auto shops close at 5 so it was hard to try to make it work without missing work. This place closes at 7! So I was very happy to find it. I called and someone answered and told me to come down. They inflated my flat tire to find the hole, patched it, and then replaced the spare with the newly fixed tire all within 10 mins! They charged me $40 which is more than I usually pay for a patch at other places but this was the first time I had a spare on and had them replace the fixed tire back on - the convenience of it for $40 was well worth it. It was quick and easy! Definitely recommend if you're looking for an auto shop open past 5/5:30 pm. read more

They have been my mechanic for years, and they worked on all my cars, from the most minor items like an oil change to bigger things like a brake job. Recently, I had an issue with my Mercedes in which the ESL (electronic steering lock) went out. I had my car towed here, and they worked on fixing it. Driving, early in the morning, along Lake Merced Blvd headed towards work and suddenly heard a loud thud on the right side. Turned and looked to find my passenger side mirror smashed and falling off (unsure what I hit as the area was dark). I stopped over at an auto shop in Colma, but it wasn't open yet; however, the kind manager/owner, who was there, helped me temporarily tape up the mirror. Due to the manager's kindness, I had considered getting a quote from that particular auto shop, however, I felt it best to find one closer to home. Then Rex's Auto Services and Parkside Auto Body came to mind; inquired and received quotes from each. Took about a day or 2 to think it over. Winner: Rex's Auto Services. Sally, the front desk person, was great to work with; typically they require a deposit, but she told me if I was serious about working with them, she'd trust me and I'd pay when the repair was done. However, to show my commitment, I placed a deposit anyways. For a discontinued car, Rex was able to acquire the passenger mirror part within the next day, repair it ON the same day, and within less than 2 hours (no paint job needed)! It took them a week to get a part for me because they ordered the wrong size, even though they had my original part with them. I also got a "call us when you think it's here" instead of taking my number and telling me. Then, they were not direct about cost. I was definitely overcharged and when I came back to talk about it, the guy says "You actually got a deal, I would have charged you more." I walked in needing a patch for a nail I found in my tire. They actually found another one in the same tire! They were incredibly kind and easy to work with. It took about 30 minutes and they called me as soon as it was ready. They even checked and balanced all my tires as well. Each patch was $25. Would highly recommend! read more

If you can work with minimum English speaking Asians and the minimum dialog, these guys are honest, hard working mechanics I've used over and over. Their prices are 1/3 discount of dealers and other shops. Shop is always busy with nice cars like BMW, infinity, etc. Yet they find a way to accommodate my needs even though the cars are lined out into the street. Scam! Overcharged and it turns out they didn't replace the parts they claimed to. They supposedly gave me a new battery that shortly died one year later. AAA said the battery was from 2017, so it had not been replaced. They also charged me an arm and a leg for filters -- $200!!! read more

Look, it's cheap for a reason. I was having serious issues (low engine power and a crazy noise) and they barely looked at the car before giving the wrong diagnosis. I asked them to check again after consulting with another mechanic and they realized they were wrong and said it was the timing chain guide. So, I spent $900 getting that work done and it seemed fine.... ...Until one hour after leaving, my check engine light came on. I had to get all of their work redone because they did not accurately check the timing chain when they had the engine open (which I explicitly asked them to.) They also put the guide in wrong. In summary, the short term savings are NOT worth it! The extra hours other mechanics put in to do their homework and check everything will save you more in the long run, trust me. They are nice guys though, but not nice enough to let $900 down the drain slide... read more

Pulled in, told them which tires had the nails in them, they did a good initial inspection, the nails pulled out, tires plugged, off i go. Brought car in because ABS was activating at every stop. They road tested the car and obtained the codes from the car computer. They said I have two malfunctioned ABS sensors. Got quoted $1000 parts and labor. I paid a $40 diagnostic fee and left to get a second opinion. Ok...now I'm not a huge car guy. I know how to change oil and brake pads. But this was out of my scope of knowledge. However, I also repair things as part of my job and thought two sensors failing at the same time sounds unusual. I took my car to another shop who read the live data from the car computer and found the sensors reading incorrectly. They thought both sensors failing simultaneously is unusual. It turns out rust forming around the ABS sensors was causing the sensor to read incorrectly and rust also seized the bolts that hold the sensors. Everything worked correctly after the bolts were freed and rust was removed. No parts needed and they charged me $300 labor. Rex would have cost me extra $700 for unnecessary work. read more

Went in for a vehicle inspection left quite disappointed. The whole inspection took less than 10 minutes. Wish I would have been able to view the vehicle when it was jacked up. They told me a leak was present but could not say from where, which would make sense to your inexperienced driver but it's quite evident that any individual who knows anything about vehicle maintenance or has car maintenance experience would know that shining a flashlight can help determine where the leak is coming from. Quite the consul of bozos, did not appreciate the half-ass inspection and lack of detail. Bring your car into a dealer or better yet pay for a decent shop to inspect a vehicle. Lastly I requested a quote on maintenance and was given no response or estimate for this maintenance. Very unprofessional and after reading reviews I wish I would have read them before choosing this shop. read more

While getting my car serviced, Toyota told me my struts were leaking and that it would cost me $1500. I knew my mom frequented Rex Auto. Everytime she went, she was just so happy with their work and their prices, so I decided to stop by and get a quote After a short inspection, Jackie said that he didn't really notice a leak and that my car was fine. I can't believe this man just saved me $1500. I found out they could easily take care of all my maintenance, so I'm coming here from now on! TLDR; DO NOT RECOMMEND. If you have an issue with your car, take it here if you're just bored, want to catch some attitude and waste your time. Boss has crappy attitude, didn't listen to or address the issue and didn't seem like they wanted the business. Extremely disappointed. I called ahead about two of my tires that appeared to be leaking air and was told to bring it in. When I walked in, the guy in the office who was later addressed as the boss by one of the techs provided the worst service I've ever received. He had the worst "what the f***" do you want attitude. He barely listened to what was wrong with the car and then proceeded to go to the back and bark at one of the techs to go look at my car which was extremely awkward. I told the tech it was the two tires on the right and even pointed at them but he proceeded to measure air pressure in the left tires... I just assumed he was being thorough which is fine. Once he measured the air pressure in all the tires, I was told the front right tire was fine... I knew for sure it wasn't because I had just measured it at home less than a mile away and it read 25psi (it's supposed to be at 34psi for my car). I'd also had to pump air in it 3 times the past week. I honestly don't know if they just didn't want the business because their shop looked pretty full or what but I just rolled with it because I didn't want to deal with the boss' crap attitude. The back tire was the one deflating faster so I thought if I could at least get that taken care of I could just go to a different shop for the other tire. The boss then proceeds to walk up to me, stick his hand out and demand for my keys... I asked how long it'd take and he answered with that same attitude "15 mins" and walked away. Not even 10 mins later, the tech walks up to me and tells me they found nothing wrong and tried to explain some other possibilities but then referred me back to the boss. When I walked into the office to speak to the boss, I was again met with his crappy attitude. He just kept saying that "they" didn't find anything, referring to the techs as if he didn't want to take responsibility if there was something wrong and it wasn't discovered. The boss refused to answer any additional questions and just told me to take it home and bring it back if my tires deflated again so they could submerge the tire again... like???? Anyways, they didn't even pump the tires to 34psi and I left feeling super sorry for these people that have to work with this person with such a horrible attitude. I don't know if he just saw me as a young female and assumed I didn't know what I was talking about... I ended up taking my car to SUNSET 76 and they found a small hole on the side of each of my tires and took care of it quickly. read more

O'reileys showed me what tools I needed for my car and I walked to Rex auto services and they were generous enough to service my car in the parking lot since I couldn't start it to get to their garage. I've been a customer here for years, but I show up at 6:40pm to drop off my car for an oil change and they seem perturbed even though I was clearly within their opening hours. They say they will not hold my car for two days upon my request. So I say I will pick it up at 10am, the time they confirmed to my face that they open and will be there, so I take time off from work in order to pick up the car at a time that is convenient for THEM. I show up and do you think they're there? NO! I waited until 10:10 when I have to get to work or I'm going to get fired. Worst customer service award goes to Rex Garage. Zero professionalism. Finding a mechanic that won't overcharge you is like gold in the the city. I live around the corner, so I've gone there several times over the years for mostly minor, but some major things. Anytime Rex identifies something simple that I can fix myself he tells me, and I can rely on him to tell me if something is important or not to fix. I came in yesterday with some minor door damage from being sideswiped that was preventing the passenger door from opening without a screeching noise. Since I didn't care what it looked like (this car is a total beater) He came over with a mallet and a lever and fixed the problem in five minutes flat and didn't even charge me! I called Rex Auto first to give my local auto shop a chance to compete. I explained to the woman on the phone I had been quoted $55 total from America's Tires for my front two tires and if they could match that or of they charged something around that. She said they would match it and I brought my car in the same day. When I came back to pick it up she said the total was $110, and I asked why it was so much more and she said the price she gave me was per tire. She must have misheard, or got me in with that price then charged me double her quote after the work was done. After she told me they charge $60 per tire, and I told her that was the most expensive price in the area she lowered it to $100. I left feeling very taken advantage of and left without discussing the additional work we talked about doing on my car. Found this mechanic open on a Saturday afternoon close to where I live and I brought my car to do a simple inspection. The mechanic called me an hour later when I thought the inspection was done to say he couldn't open the hood. I literally just opened the hood right before I brought it to the body shop. I asked the person responsible for the shop if they could fix it. Instead of trying to find a solution he confronted me asking me to look at their cameras to see if he was doing something wrong, totally rude. When I ask if something could be done to make it work again, the mechanic said he didn't know how to fix it. In short: They didn't know what they're doing.
