Well, This time we left him for weekend boarding. Barklandia is still top dog in our book! They accommodated his special diet without any reservations, and he played the entire weekend. How can we tell? He's exhausted. After his initial excitement of being home, he went straight to his bed. Yogi only does this when he's exhausted. We requested an exit bath, so of course he got one. Because he's been going to Barklandia for daycare, we had no concerns about leaving him for the weekend. It's obvious the entire staff loves dogs. They have proven to be honest and trustworthy! When asked if the dogs got to go outside, he said "not really", so it appears they are stuck in a small room with little stimulation or oversight for hours on end. This facility advertises that they accept dogs with special needs, so I paid for their required 5-HOUR EVALUATION ($30) before boarding. After the evaluation, they told me my dog passed and was approved for boarding. A few days later, I dropped him off for an overnight stay. About an hour after I left--and while I was already on my way out of town--the OWNER called and told me I had to come back immediately and pick him up. The reasons she gave were things their staff should have EASILY NOTICED during the 5-hour evaluation!! Nothing she mentioned was new or unexpected. THEIR FAILURE TO DO THIER JOB BECAME MY EMERGENCY. The entire situation was a complete waste of time and money. Even worse was the owner's attitude. The owner was rude, unprofessional, and took zero responsibility for her staff's mistakes. If you have a dog with special needs, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Poor communication, poor staff training, and very poor customer service.

Overall, our experience was very good. From the prompt and personal response to our email request for a reservation, to having the paperwork in order when we arrived. The only downside was the location, a bit of a drive for us, and it also seemed a little chaotic. But, in all fairness, we were picking up on a holiday weekend, so some chaos is expected. I should note that I chose Windy Ridge based on a glowing recommendation from a regular customer with the same breed of dog. They've been very happy there for years and based on my experience, I also consider them to be a good option. I found their rates to be reasonable in relation to other kennels in the area: Rent 1 run for 1 dog: $28/day Rent 1 run for 2 dogs: $45/day Rent 1 run for 3 small dogs: $56/day These daily rates are charged just like a hotel. You pay for the day when you bring your pet in, and checkout time is 12:00 noon the following day. Any checkout after 12:00 noon will be charged an extra day. There were also a couple things far superior to the kennel we used for years with our other dog. They are open seven days a week, so we could pick up our pup on Sunday, which is great emotionally and financially. They will also give your dog medication (orally, not shots), two times a day at no additional charge and a free bath after seven days. It used to frustrate me to no end to pay a per pill charge every day at our former kennel. We ended up finding another kennel closer to home, that was on a smaller scale and just feels a bit more comfortable for our "baby." However, I wouldn't hesitate to board her at Windy Ridge again if my first choice was already full.
