Hole in dogs lip
Samantha S.

I'm really sad to have to make this review, but after contemplating on the appropriate actions to take I feel it's important. On May 24th 2024 I took my dog (who had been going to daycare with scooby shack for a couple weeks by this point) in for a full day of daycare. When I showed up around 5 pm to pick him up, they released him to me, insisted he had a great day with no issues, and sent me on my way. I loaded my pup into the car and instantly seen that he was bleeding from his lip, enough that it was about to drip onto my car. Looking closer, I seen that he had a HOLE in his lip that almost went through the entire lip. I suspect it is from being bitten by another dog by the shape and size of the hole. I went inside to ask what happened, and two employees standing at the front said that they had no idea what happened. One of the women then stated " oh I thought the blood on him was from me, I got a bloody nose" which instantly raised some red flags. First, if you thought your nose blood was dripping on someone's dog, wouldn't you clean it off? Second, this told me that she saw the blood on him and was trying to make an excuse for how it got there. Next, both of the women speak up and say "oh, it had JUST happened". So now they are saying something happened, but they have no idea what still?! I KNOW my puppy cried when he got bit and I know that there was most likely a scuffle over it. But they claim that there was no conflicts or sounds from the dogs. And this wasn't the first time my dog had come home from here with mystery cuts on his body. I took him to the vet where we also discovered he had a puncture wound on his shoulder that had started the beginning stages of forming a seroma. I get that dogs are dogs and sending them to daycare comes with some risks, totally normal for them to have some scratches and cuts. But I also expect for the workers to have an eye on them at ALL times, to report honestly to the owners when something happens, and not try to cover up when there was a conflict in order to keep the money flowing from my wallet. I won't be returning to Scooby Shack because of the dishonesty from these employees. They also had a kennel cough outbreak at the beginning of July 2024.

Absolutely butchered my golden doodle. I have no words. I feel like they let someone train on him then charged us 215 dollars plus tip before we saw him. OVER 250 DOLLARS FOR THIS!!! There are spots shaved down to the skin and spots where there are still tufts of hair. We have been taking him every 4 weeks to a groomer in Milwaukie who is amazing but we needed somewhere close by this time. NEVER. AGAIN.

If you want a respectful, fulfilling experience DO NOT take your dog to the groomer at Scooby Shack. Not only was the groomer rude, berating my mother for not brushing our miniature Aussiepoo enough (he's brushed almost every day), but she thinks it's okay to shave our little guy completely. We made the mistake of going back a second time and she shaved his entire body, cut his whiskers and left his ears and tail completely untouched. This is a picture before and after his first two haircuts. I don't know how someone who works with animals can be so careless and inconsiderate.

I called Scooby Shack and asked Phil, one of the owners, if I could impose and have him come with me?

They have the WORST communication of any business I've ever seen. They do not answer their phone regularly - it always goes to voicemail and on top of that, they don't return those voicemails. I was able to finally reach someone after multiple days of calling to schedule an appointment. Appointment is schedule for 2 weeks out - that's great. Day of appointment comes, groomer calls out sick - I get it, no worries. They move my appointment to the following week on a Friday, same time - again, great, that works. I call Tuesday to confirm the time of my appointment - no answer, nothing returned. Same with my calls Wednesday and Thursday. No answer, no call back to VM. Show up on Friday, with the idea that my appointment was the same time that I was told 3 weeks ago. The person checking me in tells me, "We had your appointment down for an hour earlier and we're booked for the day, we can reschedule you for 3 weeks from now." No thanks. I'll take my business elsewhere. Sure, their staff is nice and professional without a doubt. But their management is horrendous. Hire someone to answer the phone

Puppy came back well groomed but noticed the next day that he's licking his left paw constantly, a behaviour that i've never seen him do before. After examining, i found a huge gash between his toes. It looks like the tip of the scissor got caught between his toes while they were doing his leg/paw. After comparing left and right, the area where gash was, skin was bare and no hair at all while rest of the other in between toes were with hair. It was very strange. I immediately called to let them know; what's happened happened so I wasn't expecting or wanting any type of compensation but rather an apology: an apology for not notifying the owner after the cut and that the groomer was not careful to know that they made a mistake. But rather the receptionist was very defensive - i wasn't working yesterday so i can't help you - groomer did not leave any notes so it's probably not us - if it's just a cut, put some neosporne on it - because he's a puppy, he could have pulled his leg during the cut because they are not experienced - our clippers can't cut the dogs Really, on the phone i had nothing to say because it was just so baffling. As a small business owner, it's hard to see other small business doing this type of customer service. These irresponsible actions is what drives people to stay away and resort to more bigger corporates who might have better system with such mistake. Regardless of how the grooming turned out, we'll continue our search for the groomer. I would not feel comfortable recommending this place to anyone.
