We moved to the Outer Sunset to have a little more space for our son to run around. The backyard of…read moreour place was full a pea gravel and the typical concrete slab that you see in typical Outer Sunset backyards. We looked through multiple designers, contractors, etc. and decided to go with David and Inside Out. Our overall goal was to maximize the backyard space for play, add bike storage, benches for seating, tropical plants, and a grill space. We went through a couple design iterations with David. He had great recommendations on plants, great thoughts on design and was flexible on the fly. We originally were trying to save some existing plants moving them to another location but I am glad we cleared everything out and started with a clean slate. We were also thinking about a raised garden but decided to go with storage benches, another decision I am glad we made. His team took out all the pea gravel, jackhammered and removed the concrete slab, removed sand/dirt accordingly, removed all existing plants/trees. His team was very professional, they arrived/left at the same time everyday. We added two benches with storage which was a great hit during many play dates having multiple places for adults and kids to seat/play. We also store various toys, gym equipment (weights for me), bbq items in plastic containers so they do not get wet with the morning dew or rain. The bike storage unit is practically waterproof. Everything stays cool and dry even when it pours in the winter. The turf is still flat, no crazy gopher mounds like you get elsewhere in the Outer Sunset (they installed gopher wire below the turf). Our plants: *King Palms *Queen Palms *Fern trees *Podocarpus Elongatus (ice tree) *Giant Birds of Paradise *Other plants Inside Out also does maintenance and guarantees the plants for the 1st year. We have them come out monthly and have had them replace some of the smaller plants as some did not last. All of the large plants and trees are doing great along with the Giant Birds of Paradise. We also had Inside Out build us a trash bin area out front after they finished the backyard. Everything looks great! Many of our neighbors and friends have commented on how great our backyard looks. We even got a nice note from a neighbor we did not know saying how he enjoys waking up with the view of palm trees out of his bedroom window. His quote was reasonable / competitive, and I was lucky to get quickly scheduled. He and his crew came out and in a couple days were able to install a brand new Hunter system with sprayers and multiple drip lines. Despite having to trench through my yard, when they were done it looked as good as new. They took special care around existing landscaping and did not damage anything during the installation process. It's been a few months now, and the system is working great. Grass is green and plants are blooming. Sherman is easy to work with and super responsive. He's great with communication, and his estimate was right on point. I had some drainage work done at my house which trashed my entire irrigation system, so I needed to have it replaced, both in the front and back yard. The McKay crew did a bang up job of it. They came in on time and on budget. They had the whole system laid out and running within about two days. Then Sherman spent some time with me to make sure I knew how to operate the controllers. In fact, they do more than irrigation, and I will likely have them come back and put in some new plants and do some other work in my backyard. They did such a good job with the irrigation system that I have high confidence they will make quick work of the other jobs too. I strongly recommend them.

I was surprised my call was answered & thrilled that Gerado said he would be in my area in an hour or so & could take a look. When he arrived he gave me a quote & said he could repair it now. Everything was in good repair & done at a very reasonable price. A week later late in the evening I noticed another section had begun showing some seeping at the popup heads & figured to check it in the morning. Next morning to my surprise I received a text from the water co that my smart meter had alerted them to a continuous flow. I went right to work & saw I had a valve problem. I thought I could handle the repair on my own following some you tube advice, I replaced the top of the valve body. Long story short I was unsuccessful & couldn't stop the ebb. I called Gerado who determined possibly because my original valve was over 16 years old there could be some minor variance to the molding process or I purchased a defective valve. We agreed to replace the entire valve assembly. Gerado who returned again on Sunday with a new valve installed the valve in short order. Immediately all was back to good working order. Our…read moreold concrete slabs were cracked, and had shifted, altering the drainage of water to flow towards our house. After interviewing many landscape pavers, Ideal Engineering stood out for being prompt to all the meetings, willing to visit multiple times to double-check measurements before bidding and were knowledgeable on the current state of available inventory and which showrooms to visit to preview them. Prices were very reasonable and transparent. There were no unplanned mark-ups and all change orders were reviewed and had to be approved by me in advance, so I could budget accordingly. I think this is an advantage of choosing a local paver. The work was efficient and professional - different specialized crews for demolition, irrigation, paving, cleanup were used with their own knowledgeable foremen. Each foremen acted as an available point of contact and communication was easy and friendly. Any texts or calls were usually returned within minutes. The teams were proactive in highlighting any complications or issues that might require design approval to make sure the work they did matched what I had in mind. For example, Pedro, the paver lead felt it was better to create a smooth curve at a corner instead of a straight 90 degree corner, and he was right! The boundaries flowed smoother and nicer with the lawn. The paving work was top-notch. We had decided to install premium pavers from Belgard, and it was important the work was done properly for such an investment. This included grading at the proper slopes for proper drainage, adding weed-resistant fabric, multiple levels of graded stone for proper leveling and polymeric sand for good sealing between pavers. The team helped build custom steps that looked very nice to create easy step-downs and paver edging was done with great style and aesthetics. For a potentially complicated project, I really felt confidence in the team and the process. David also helped offer advise in helping me move and reset our external heat pump units so that they could be reinstalled on top of the pavers. They were able to build conduits to facilitate running irrigation and electricity underneath the pavers for adding drip irrigation of containers and future lighting in our garden. Cleanup was thorough, with parts of our yard reseeded and topped with new topsoil. There was no construction debris left on our lawn or streetside. Everything was swept up. Fence gates that were temporarily removed were re-installed to appear as if nothing ever happened. I would definitely use Ideal Engineering (Ideal Landscape & Concrete) again for future projects.
