This is a long overdue review! We highly recommend RFRD if you have a dog that is hard to manage. Our dog was such a challenge for us because he was so anxious about what seemed like everything. And his anxiety would escalate immediately to aggression with people, other dogs, and even us as his family. We had seen a veterinary behaviorist but she had nothing that worked and wanted to prescribe all kinds of medication. RFRD to the rescue! Unlike some other dogs, ours seemed to need a bit more work. He had an 11 week board and train program. It took a long time because it took him a long time to acclimate. But Daniel and the team stuck with him, built trust, and taught him how to stay focused which helped him manage his anxiety and aggression in stressful circumstances (which for him was most things). They also trained us for a couple of weeks so that we could continue the training at home to maintain the much better behavior. It has been almost 2 years since his training. While we sometimes need to go back for brush up sessions to remind us of how to manage certain situations, we are all much more relaxed at home and in public settings. And their boarding is great too! Now that they know his temperament and know how he was trained, he continues to get his training reinforced when he boards. If you are on the fence about putting your pup in boarding school, this is your sign to do it. My partner and I are first time dog parents to our sweet, high energy Golden Retriever girl, Billie. We were met with a lot of challenges when training her in the beginning. You think reading everything online or watching YouTube videos will help you figure it out, but we were oh so wrong. We went from not being able to take her anywhere to now taking her everywhere. We were skeptical about how long the boarding program was - we didn't want to be away from her for so long. But we realized in order for RFRD to really bond with Billie and learn which learning styles work for her, it was important to have that much time with her. Not only was she learning, but as dog parents we had a lot to learn also. The patience and time in training is so necessary for Billie and us to be successful. If you are concerned about your dog not recognizing you after being away for so long or losing your connection (because I was very worried about this), do not fear - they will remember you and love you even more when you reunite. The issues we wanted to address when we decided to board Billie included: - Leash pulling - which she no longer does. We have been able to go on nice, long walks with Billie vs. before when it was a nightmare. - Resource guarding for food - she used to growl when we would get close to her while she was eating, but she has now learned to trust us. - Nipping - Billie was a super nippy puppy. She does still do it here and there, but she definitely understands the "no" command more than before. Working with David & Lis has been such a pleasure. David is always quick to respond if we have any questions (which you will have after the boarding program is done). He never makes us feel like we're messing up as new dog parents, which we used to always feel. He explains everything so well to make it easy for us to understand - we always appreciated the analogies to human relationships. Since Billie knows the staff very well, it has made it easier to board her when we have to go on trips/vacations. They are amazing at sending videos and photos while you are away. Overall, the boarding program has allowed us to better communicate and understand our pup. It's important to keep in mind that the work continues after the program ends, but we thank RFRD for setting up the foundation for Billie. I'm not trying to be dramatic... but our experience with RFRD has been LIFE changing. We have a 2yo dog that we've had since she was 8wks. We've been really diligent is trying to train her, and she's a really great dog, but it was getting to a point where we felt like we couldn't manage it anymore. Her pulling on leash (60lb dog so she's very strong), unreliability on recall, and over-excitement with any person or dog she sees... it made us unable to take her places (breweries, baby showers, etc) without crating her. We brought her to dinner at a friend's place once... leashed her on a couch... and she dragged an entire couch over to us. We did the 5wk board and train program - it was perfect since it was over our wedding + honeymoon. We missed her a lot, but appreciated the pictures/videos we were sent on an every few day basis. Daniel was our head trainer and Brassy was our main trainer -- they're both so great with dogs and understand them so well. We're so happy with them. The program itself is extremely well structured. We had a few overnight boardings that came with the program ahead of it starting so she could acclimate to the surroundings. It made a big difference as she would start the training immediately after starting boarding, instead of waiting for her to settle in for a week. Week 5 consists of daily 1-1 sessions with the training so YOU are trained on how to handle your trained dog. After the program, there's another 3 1-1 "touch up" sessions. Really great package and it gives you access to their monthly group trainings and a discount on all future boardings as well (which are great for training maintenance). Our pup can go with us everywhere now. She was trained on an e-collar but it is not at all used in a harmful way - it is more of a communication tool. You can tell that she's excited to work because when I pull the e-collar out, she walks INTO it. Compare that to her old harness where she would run away. I take her to open areas constantly off-leash and I trust her recall. Her heeling on walks are significantly better and she is capable of staying on her "place" for up to 2 hours with other dogs running around. She's still the same rambunctious girl, but when we're ready to work, she knows to snap into it. Training is a forever process and we know we have to stick to it, but so grateful to RFRD for re-setting her foundations and opening up the world to her! read more

This review is a long time coming. Came to RFRD initially for their board and train service back in October 2020 as our corgi had major reactivity. He went in at 8 months old. We had no idea what we were getting into as the business only had a few reviews at the time and my partner's barber recommended this business. A guy and his barber...am I right? The loyalty is real lol The day we had our initial consultation, I was at my wits end. A month later, his obedience was top notch and was shown that he could be around their demo dogs without wanting to lunge at them. We even hopped on the raw food train with them which has been game changer. David and Daniel along with the whole team have been a godsend. They still to this day help us out when we need a tune up which we greatly appreciate! We consider them family now. We love RFRD! They improved our pet's lives so much! We put Henry (10 yr old toy poodle) and Nova (7 month GSD pandemic puppy) in Board & Train from February-March 2021 Nova already had basic obedience, agility, and crate training but we wanted to make sure he wouldn't develop separation anxiety from us working from home his whole life. We also wanted him to learn how to be more calm around our other pets. Henry was rescued later in his life and had spent his first few years as a backyard dog. He didn't have any training or confidence. He was extremely timid and anxious (we had even been advised to put him on anxiety meds). He had HORRIBLE separation anxiety (peeing, throwing up, shaking when left alone) and he would shut down on walks when loud cars or strong winds came. We were so impressed with our dogs after board and train! Especially with Henry! He was sooo confident and energetic during training and walks! He also learned place command and got crate trained, which helped with his separation anxiety! Nova's obedience got a lot more cleaned up and he got better at not getting excited by distractions. We are still working on these things every day (David, Daniel, and Shawna emphasize that training is a life long process) but we are so happy that we can all live peacefully at home and also take the boys on so many adventures! Shawna was always so responsive and sent us pictures and videos when we were missing our pups. She and the team also continued to respond to our questions and concerns long after our boys came home from B&T. Our dogs also LOVE their food and have shown amazing improvement in their digestion and stools Henry's energy levels since changing to their food have also improved so much. The only area of improvement/ heads up we have is Henry's eyes got pretty gunked up and his hair got pretty matted during B&T. (We don't blame RFRD though because he's always been a nightmare to groom). It helped the second time he went for boarding that we got him groomed at his regular groomer before we dropped him off They also allowed us to rent a ruffland crate to keep Nova safe during our road trip our Lake Tahoe trip when we couldn't get a hold of one! When we noticed Henry getting anxious again, David took him back for a couple days to help us figure out what was going on. They really have amazing customer service! Their Board and Train program was the best decision we made for our rescue dog. Our dog has always been scared and anxious. We did our best on our own to help her come out of her shell, but realized we needed professional help. Through a recommendation, we found this place. We were a little intimidated at first, but once we worked with the trainers we immediately could tell they were extremely knowledgeable and genuinely cared about the well being and most importantly, the psychological aspect of our fur baby. They are equipped in training canines from all sorts of backgrounds and cater their sessions based on what each dog needs. Our dog, in this particular case, took longer than usual to come out of her shell. They never pushed her and once she started gaining more confidence, she blossomed. The best part about this was the at-home training. Our trainer was available for any help we needed and checked in with us often. We learned so much about ourselves and how to best handle our dog. Now, when we introduce our dog to new situations we read her body language and know how to guide her to think on her own and rely on her training. We brought our 6 year old dog in for boarding and training and we could not be happier with the transformation after 8 weeks at RFRD. We rescued our small terrier/pom mix when he was just a year old and over the years his reactivity got progressively worse. Great experience from start to finish. I brought my Napa in for an evaluation was given a very thorough explanation of their methods, the reasoning behind it, and recommendation for length of board and train (5 weeks). To make things more complex, we were moving right after the end of her training. LeHang scheduled our go-home-sessions prior to Napa's departure in order for the entire family to learn handling techniques and commands. David and Brizza availed themselves to meet us out in the community, which was EXTREMELY helpful because we never had the confidence to do so prior to training. Our dog is sweet, smart, and gentle girl but she didn't always introduce herself that way to the world. The training she received at RFRD helped improve her focused attention, sustained attention, impulse control, and overall obedience. The fact that they took our specific needs into consideration like not jumping on people and tolerating my "handsy" kids, made the experience feel personalized. I know my dog received individual, specialized training because it was tailored to us. Even though I call her my dog (because I love her the most), she now follows commands from everyone in the house. In fact, if one of my kids gives her a command she will not break it if I call her. This was previously an issue but now she respects the heirarchy and knows that the kids are the boss of her, too. I'm sad that we're now too far away to take advantage of the outings and follow up sessions. Daniel (head trainer) was our dog Onyx' trainer (however all of the dogs work with all of the trainers at one point to get them used to different people I think) and he was amazing. I cannot think of an organization more worthy of 5 stars than David and his amazing team at RFRD Academy. Our puppy, Rex, was a part of a 4-week long training program at 4 months old and we were blown away with the results. Rex worked with Shauna and she is worthy of every praise. She is an experienced professional trainer who is compassionate, fun, energetic, and patient with dogs (and people alike) she also understands their positive and negative behavioral motivations. During training we received constant progress updates (and videos) which we were eager to receive. . Once we got Rex back we were pleasantly surprised with his behavior...he had the demeanor of a 5 year old dog, not a 5 month old puppy. Subsequently, we have received follow up communication from Shauna to help us with any adjustments that was needed. We also use their Food Service since the day we brought Rex home. He has been on their custom raw diet and it is phenomenal as well. She gave immediate responses and kept us apprised with videos of Luna. Everything essential we wanted with Luna's training from RFRD Academy was delivered. They gave me a week of opportunities to go down there and help me to handle Luna. VERY IMPRESSIVE. Also, another perk they offer that no other company does is checking up on your pet after the board & training. They also offer three follow-up sessions and access to group sessions once a month for the rest of her life. SWEET!! I don't even know where to start, other than this place is amazing!!! Since they have opened, we have brought our dogs in multiple times for boarding and training! (i'm a crazy dog mom who doesn't trust ANYONE with my dogs) but the staff here treats my babies as if they are their own! My girl has behavioral issues and she has come so far with doing training here! We've seen a HUGE difference in her attitude and her obeying to commands. Even not during training, i am still able to reach out to them for help and questions and their response time is quick and always helpful. We went to RFRD after my dogs got into a couple fights. My mom knew the owner and I reached out to him and set up a consultation meeting. After the consultation we left our American Bully, Kong, the same day for one month board and train. They sent us daily progress videos to show us how he was doing. We brought him home after the month and continued everything that he learned and we continue to stay consistent with his training. We are so grateful for Frenchy, Justin, and David. This is a long overdue review I have been meaning to write. First off -- I would like to give a special thanks to David and his team for being so welcoming are reassuring with the entire process. They communicated through every step of the way to make sure our Doberman puppy was in good hands. They were thorough in explaining the types of training they would be focusing on and the rationale behind the way they do things. We worked closely with Shawna who was in direct contact with us. We appreciated the updates and videos she would send us of Blaire. Shawna went above and beyond to reassure us of Blaire's safety and progress. She answered questions and addressed any concerns. RFRD Academy and Food service has been beyond amazing. Our pup did a month long training here and has been on their custom raw diet since day-one. Incredible results from their quality care. He came back form is month training super confident and very responsive to basic commands, even at 3 months! The subsequent ease of further training is testament to the foundation they set. He was so happy we knew he had been well cared for. The food program is amazing as well. He's been a picture of health. Weight gain is right on point and he maintains a lean muscular look with a gleaming coat. And the main secret: the poops are tiny! And if I miss picking one up, All of find is a tiny dried up finger-sized chunk - and he's over 95 lbs! Highly recommend these guys, whether your looking to increase your dogs health with the raw food program, top notch training facilities, or their boarding, doesn't get any better than RFRD. My friends, look no further for a facility that does it all! We have a doberman named Maya who is our whole world. We booked a last minute vacation and a friend recommended RFRD. We scheduled a consultation with LeHang and she let us know that the facility isn't your typical "let your dog run wild to socialize" type of boarding. It is a structured facility, meaning, socialization is training time. Which is what we were looking for! During the consultation with Daniel, he met maya and recommended her to day board for a couple of days prior to our flight so that Maya could get accustomed to the staff and facility FREE OF CHARGE! This really showed us that they care for the dogs well being. They even accommodated us for a 6AM drop off time!! Through out our vacation we received videos and pictures of Maya TRAINING with other dogs and different distractions!! We received videos of the staff playing with maya. We even received videos of maya working through her nerves around loud noises which is something that she struggles with! (SHE CRUSHED IT THANKS TO RFRD) We are so grateful that we found RFRD because it is such a GEM. Most facilities just crate your dog and don't do much with your dog if they're "just boarding". But we saw that maya was treated similar to a board and train because of the foundation of obedience that she has. This shows me her stay with RFRD was tailored to her skills and she wasn't just a sitting duck. When we picked her up 8 days later, we knew she was in great hands because of her demeanor. When we picked her up she smelt GOOD. There was no "dirty dog" stench at all. She looked HAPPY. And she was CALM. Thank you RFRD team for doing what you do, we will be back!!! read more

If you have a puppy or adult dogs need some training or behavior reinforcement, David and his team are here to help. From the initial evaluation session, David will guide you through the type training is needed for your pup. My puppy is lacked self-confidence so when he is around other dogs, he would bark loudly and non stop. David's training plan consisted of building up his confident level with more interaction with calm and submissive dogs. More interaction with calm and submissive dogs, the pup would know it is ok to be around other dogs without the fear being around them. Now my puppy is doing well with other dogs walking by and David even started put him on agility training. Lastly , we do feel the professional help and hands on training ( for both dogs and pet owners ) are so key ; and it makes huge different and very productive , compared with self-learning online or book reading.. at least that totally works better for us, while training our 4-legs family members . Where shall I start? I brought Jedi, my 4 month old Siberian Husky at the time, to RFRD Academy because I was in serious need of training for my energetic and wild pup. They have a couple different training options and I was able to to choose to leave Jedi there for a 4 week training and boarding period. I was able to see Jedi's improvement weekly and each week, he would surprise me from where he initially started. Towards the end of the training, they brought me in several times so I could get used to the commands that David and his crew have taught Jedi. It was like night and day with Jedi. They did an incredible job with him and have helped me with getting Jedi more obedient and building his confidence up. Their communication is great and answer any questions I have with Jedi now that he is home. I've learned a lot. I cannot thank them enough for how much they have helped Jedi and I. I definitely recommend anyone with a puppy or adult dog that is need of any kind of training. Money well invested! read more

Let me start by saying that David and his staff are good and genuine people. I was getting my RAW FOOD from David when he told me that he had a doggy boot camp. I have french bulldog and for those who have a frenchie knows how stubborn they can be. I had him since he was 2 months and had taught him the basic commands (sit, stay, and lay down), he would stay on my left side when I walked him but he wasn't consistent. Also, he would bark almost out of control when I would let my other dog out to use the bathroom. So at 6 months old we put him in the RFRD Academy 28 days boot camp in mid May. There we met French the dog trainer who was very knowledgeable about frenchies among other breeds. We picked him up 28 days later and immediately saw the difference in his focus. He was walking on the left side, making eye contact, and had a calm demeanor. What stood out was when French brought out 5 dogs out at one time and no barking and all the dogs were behaving including my dog. French gave me some tips and homework afterwards to keep with the training. The 28 days of boot camp and the everyday of 20 to 30 mins of reinforcing the commands have made a world of a difference.
