There's plenty of nice local establishments, but some can be pricey and some are just more casual than you want. Scott Williams has perfected the restaurants of Tyler that are balanced between affordable and still quite nice. He got his toes in the water with FDs, before expanding into Javi's, Twelve, and now the fanciest of them all in III Palms. I thought of all those options, Twelve would be the most unique and tasty for my girlfriend and I. We went in an hour before they closed on a Sunday and were seated immediately. We weren't too hungry so we didn't expect to be there past their closing time, and we were ready to go. Our waiter was quick and attentive, bringing us water and helping us decide on drinks from the bar and our order. He also showed us their insane over-the-top whiskey menu. If you like whiskey, give Twelve a shot I guess. To order, I just got their 'Osaka Style' Pressed Roll while my girlfriend got a Sushi Bowl Salad. We got Sweet Potato Fries to share. As for drinks, I started with their Monkey See, Monkey Do, an impressive and firm beverage, while my girlfriend ordered their Destin Dream, a fun Pina Colada-like drink. It wasn't long before our food came out. The sushi was beautifully plated with some wasabi and pickled ginger on the side. I destroyed all the rolls. They were all very fresh and very high quality, which was remarkable for their $13.50 price tag. My girlfriend's sushi bowl looked insane. She ate most of it, but I filled the gaps and devoured the rest of it. The sweet potato fries were crispy and heavenly like all sweet potato fries usually are. I felt adventurous and I got a second drink of their Rose Garden, which was simple but flavorful. Compared to FDs, the menu might be a little more sea-inspired and more adventurous, but I think it leads to better, more unique food, especially with offerings like Oyster Rockefeller and a sushi bar. I also know Twelve does a great brunch as well, so keep that on your radar. Ultimately, as the bill came, the price was very manageable even with the alcohol. It's nice that you don't fully have to break the bank to have a nice meal in Tyler thanks to places like Twelve. I rate it a 12/10. Get it? hahahaha... RIYL: A slightly adventurous, but affordable night out.

It felt elegant but still welcoming and comfortable. The food was amazing across the board. There was a small mix-up with one of the dishes, but with a large party those things happen, and the staff handled it well. Our waitress was sweet, attentive, quick, and made the experience even better. Would definitely return next time we're in town.

They have a few dining options to choose from including the bar/lounge area, in-door dining and outdoor patio areas. We started in the bar/lounge area while waiting for a seat outdoors so we could enjoy the weather and live music. Our server was very nice and honest- even when he hadn't tried a dish he told us how others rated it. We shared the SEARED AHI TUNA appetizer and added an additional side of bread 8/10 (it honestly should come with more!) Each ordered the THAI GINGER COCONUT SALMON which I am still thinking about! 10/10 The portions were generous and I saved 1/2 to make room for dessert. I was glad to enjoy leftovers the next day. We finished with the DULCE DE LECHE CHURROS which were highly recommended by our server and did not disappoint in presentation nor taste. 10/10

He sat us, barely uttering a guttural word, brought our drink order and left again for another 10 minutes. I was literally getting out of my seat to get another server when he showed up around the corner. Using the same energy, he took our food order. No recommendations, and no conversation. He brought our food and never returned. Never came back to ask us how everything was, to refill drinks, NOTHING. It was literally like he left the building. Another waiter felt sorry for us and brought us several items, to go boxes and our bill. We tipped HIM and thanked him for actually seeing us. The food: Ka-po noodles were fabulous. The pork dumplings were so bad, it was ridiculous. "Scallion and pork pan fried dumplings". No scallions, no spices and the sausage was a greasy ball of breakfast sausage. We could not eat them. Really disappointing. Unfortunate experience, and we will not return.
