First off the service was amazing the waitress couldn't have been more helpful or pleasant. The food however was no where near what we hoped for. For an appetizer we ordered fried green tomatoes, they tasted like frozen pre-breaded tomatoes. My fiancé had the ribs and brisket, the waitress asked if we wanted wet or dry cut she chose the wet, well if that was the wet cut we got I would hate to see the dry. Atmosphere - You get out of the car, and smell the smoke. The smell is still inside the restaurant. The four of us sat in a wood booth. Not very comfy. Clearly that hour was too long. Food Drink - No beer served here. So water. Dinner - I wanted the special, burnt ends. But no luck. I had the brisket meal with coleslaw, and cold fries. Brisket was sliced poorly, almost looking like burnt ends. I think I might have had one full slice that was not broken. That tells me it is a bit dry or a very dull knife. Flavor was smoke forward, but the bark was great. Service - Our waitress was friendly. But you could tell it was clean up time and the staff was hustling and cleaning. Traveling through NC wanting BBQ we choose this place because of reviews and selection. It's Sunday at noon; they have been open 1hour. The place is hoping, several tables are open, couple behind us was told a 15 minute wait, the next 25 minutes. Service was sloooow but friendly. The Food: pulled pork plate, pork dry and good flavor, used a lot of sauce which was sweet with some heat. The beans dry, with a smokiness, pork flavor but there was something missing. It was like a V6 running on 4 cyl. Smokey wings good as was the coleslaw. Fries crispy good. The best was the smoked Turkey, tender, moist and full of flavor. The not so good, (I will say there seemed to be plenty of help on the floor but the kitchen might not have been fully staffed) we waited an hour and a half for BBQ. Hopefully this just an off day. It's not that the experience was bad. But we will likely not go back. It just wasn't memorable. Not by any stretch. The service was excellent. So kudos to our waitress (I mean "server"). I had pulled pork. It was pretty good. Not great, but OK. It wasn't very hot, but the flavor and texture were OK. I liked the Carolina mustard-based sauce. The other two, not so much. I did not care for their baked beans at all. They were too smoky and not at all sweet. My wife had baby back ribs. She said that they were pretty good. She also liked her French fries. We both had cole slaw and thought that it was pretty good. But the worst part of the visit: The piped-in "music". I'll never understand why businesses feel that they have to provide music. But whatever it was, it was downright dreadful. Laughably so. Being the week after Thanksgiving, not surprisingly, they were playing Christmas music. It left us both shaking our heads in amazement. My wife and I have been trying to eat healthier as we get older. We primarily eat vegetarian, with minimal additions of poultry and fish for protein. We eat red meat rarely. My wife has eaten one meal with red meat in the past year; I will occasionally lower my guard for some crispy bacon, but it's hard to resist a great rack of baby back ribs. During Covid (I hate the "C" word but face it, we've got to safely work through this), when we do go out to eat, we go on off hours to avoid crowds. Plus, when you're on vacation, you can justify some errant behavior. We're RV-ing in the beautiful Smoky Mountain foothills of North Carolina where BBQ Ribs are king. We passed by the Rib Country Restaurant on our way to our campsite and I couldn't erase it from my mind. I even dreamt about it the first night. So .... this afternoon, we broke our red meat fast and headed to Rib Country and we are so glad we did! When we arrived, we saw that they observed strict Covid safety measures. The restaurant was limited to 50% capacity. The hostess stand was outside and we were not allowed inside until a table was cleared and sanitized. Social distancing is practiced and the nearest diners to our table were at least 15 feet. ALL employees were wearing masks, making us feel very safe. After being seated, we were presented a menu that would cause a pig to drool (they don't drool by the way). I wanted one of each menu items but we both settled for a half rack of baby back ribs, a side of coleslaw, beans, garlic toast and half a loaf of French fried onions. They have a saying that if you need a knife to cut the meat off the bones they'll pick up the check. Well, we did not need a knife. As we picked up the ribs with our hands, the meat literally fell to the plate. It was tender, moist and absolutely heavenly. This must be what people describe as food of the gods. It was definitely the best barbecue ribs I have had in my 68 years of life. Our server, Renee, was the nicest and most pleasant person ever. She made several recommendations at our request and gave us the time necessary to look over the menu since this was our first time at this restaurant. As an employee, Renee is a keeper. She is the one every employer would dream of as an ambassador to their restaurant. She obviously knows the menu and loves her job. Her enthusiasm definitely spills over in her work. Each bite was feast that I wished would not end. This is definitely a place we will repeat when we return. In fact, we may even dine there tomorrow,!! It was that great. This was such a welcome surprise on our trip to Murphy. We had the smoked brisket, turkey and ribs. Everything was delicious and we took home leftovers and we able to eat lunch and dinner off the large portions. If we are ever in this area again we will definitely go back. In town for our vacation when we see this local spot with a full parking lot (always a good sign). We parked and we're immediately greeted by a very friendly attendant. We gave our name and our table was ready quickly. The service was great, the food was good but sadly they were out of a few of the standard dishes and the portions were good. Our sever totally made up for the lack of some menu items and he was very attentive and on top of things. This is what we drive 950 miles for (southern hospitality). I've been to this location many times before and have always enjoyed it. I would have given a 5 star review... but this time and my other recent visit the service was very off. Our server attended to every table but ours! Not only were our drink glasses never refilled, our food arrived not hot and late (every other table who arrived after us received their food 10 minutes before us). We tried to eat here a few weeks back and there wasn't a place to park and people were lined outside waiting to get in! So we had to find supper elsewhere. Today, we were in North Carolina again so tried it for an early supper, and we are glad we did!! We now know why you can't get in. I got baby back ribs with fries and coleslaw, hubs got smoked Turkey with fries and coleslaw. Let me tell you, the ribs fell off the bone and the Turkey was moist and not over smoked. It was spot on! Went for lunch and got wings, onion rings, and baked potato. The wings were teeny and dry. Baked potato was hard and dry like it had been put in a microwave for 30 minutes. The only thing that is good was the onion rings. Expensive for what we got. Use to be a favorite restaurant of mine but not anymore. read more

Celebrated Labor Day in style with a great meal at Rib Country. As a party of 9 we expected a bit of a wait and when we arrived we were escorted into the waiting area where we were able to sit in some rocking chairs while we waited. Dinner was delicious!! I had the baby backs and a side of brisket - both were phenomenal. The coleslaw and beans were great too. Service was friendly and efficient. The others loved their meals just as much. The sides are fantastic and specifically the baked beans, cole slaw, and green beans are some of the best I have ever had. Unfortunately, my phone took a bath while tubing today so no pictures :-( Kids meals are a bargain at $6.95 for a half rack of baby backs, fries, apple sauce and a drink. Got to the restaurant 45 minutes later was informed I'd be anywhere from another 15 or 20 minutes I said why didn't somebody call me I have a long drive. All I got was a dumb look. Tell the young lady I'll be outside in my jeep come and get me. I waited 15 minutes nobody came out I walked into the restaurant. They said it be another 10 minutes or so folks that's close to an hour and a half. That's ridiculous. On a bike ride through the mountains and found this gem. The brisket was melt in your mouth delicious. I asked for it lean and boy did they deliver, which almost never happens when I eat bbq. I was able to eat almost all the meat and only had to trim a little fat. This is a far trek from home in Tennessee but we will be back!!! read more

Scrumptious food & great waitstaff. Christopher was amazing. He told us what his favorite dishes are, he provided samples to help us make up our minds. I ordered the smoked turkey plate with baked beans, and the loaded baked potato salad (premium side) and my husband ordered the smoked turkey sandwich with coleslaw as a side. The turkey as juicy, and was perfectly smoked. There was plenty of meat on the platter and on the sandwich. The baked potato salad was delicious; I took the remainder back to our hotel and had it for b'fast this morning along with the remaining smoked turkey breast. For dessert - fried apple pie ala mode (2 scoops of ice cream) and triple chocolate fudge brownie ala mode (2 scoops of ice cream). The portions of both of these desserts could be easily shared by 2 people but did we share? No way! Will definitely be looking for this restaurant in other locations! read more
