Passing through and saw the Rib Country sign and did a U-turn to get back here. We love the country feel, the smell of good cooking and the patriotism for our great country (250 years!). We were just past the lunch crowd at 1:11 arrival on a Thursday, but there was still a decent crowd in the restaurant. Booths are big, room for eight regular sized folk. We were only two. Collard greens were on the menu today as was potato skin fingers and Brunswick stew. I chose the brisket plate, wet, with collards and baked beans. My wife got the same with collards and potato skins. Each of those was a premium side for an extra $2.50, but well worth it. Every single thing we ate was a 10 out of 10. We loved the collards,, tender, served with hot pepper vinegar, as the Good Lord intended and not sweet, like the heretics that put brown sugar in their collards. The brisket was Smokey and tender and perfectly seasoned, add a bit of hot bbq sauce. Baked beans were sweet, as they should be, and had some meat chunks in there, again, as they ought. A slice of Texas Toast accompanied. We were initially overlooked as our server, Robin, didn't know that we had been seated. She was apologetic about our three minute wait - which tells you, Robin is a great server! I mean, it was only three minutes, but she took our drink order and our food order at the same time, immediately served drinks and 15 minutes later served our food. The space will fit a lot of folks. This was an excellent lunch choice, good for crowds, good for single diners too. It was so good, we figured it's only 87 miles from our home in Greenville, SC and could be an occasional day trip destination for lunch. Or, we need to convince the family to open up a Greenville location. There's an idea. Don't hesitate to dine here, and consider bringing a cooler for some "to go" orders for later. We ordered food to-go since we were traveling with my pup. We got the Country Feast with sliced, wet brisket, dark meat chicken. It also comes with smoked pulled pork, a full rack of baby back ribs, and 6 sides. For sides, we got Mac & cheese, collard greens x2, baked beans, fried okra, and fries. Everything was delicious! The wet brisket and ribs were my favorite. We enjoyed all of the sides equally, but the ranch was the star of the show! I couldn't get enough of it. We also ordered a gallon of sweet tea and it was so good! This left us with plenty of leftovers for our family. The food service and ambiance were absolutely fantastic!! We tried many of the items from the menu. The brisket was great but the star of the show for me was the wings with the house glaze. Top notch. Everything was amazing. The hostess greeted our young one with coloring pages , crayons and even got him an American flag or two as it was the Fourth of July weekend. Stopped here for lunch while in the area. We are glad we did. The service, food, and BBQ atmosphere were great. After we ordered our drinks I decided to go with the Brunswick stew, and pulled pork sandwich with fries. My wife tried 10 naked smoked wings with fried okra. That day the wings were .99 all day Wednesday. My Brunswick stew was good. A little thick with veggies. I added the sauce from the table to give it more of a BBQ taste. My sandwich was very good with the three sauce types on the table. My wife loved her wings. Smoked and not fried. Had a nice rub flavor and she loved the ranch dressing to dip them in. My family and I were visiting Murphy, NC and decided to try Rib Country BBQ after smelling the amazing aroma from the parking lot. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from start to finish. When we arrived, the restaurant was mostly empty, yet we were told there would be a 5-10 minute wait. That turned into over 20 minutes before we were seated. After being seated, it took another 5-10 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order. The staff was very friendly, but the service was extremely slow considering how empty the restaurant appeared to be. We ordered fried pickles as an appetizer along with a chicken tender dinner, a half chicken dinner, and a full rack of ribs. The fried pickles arrived after about 15 minutes and were nearly inedible. The batter was extremely thick, hard, and heavily over-fried to the point that it felt like biting into a greasy shell rather than a fried pickle. The actual pickle inside was paper-thin and completely overpowered by the coating. They were also saturated with grease, leaving a puddle of oil on the plate and making them difficult to eat after only a few bites. Our waitress told us our entrées would be right behind the appetizer, but it was another 15 minutes before they arrived. Unfortunately, nearly everything on the table was cold. My chicken tenders were surprisingly small and so dry that even dipping them in barbecue sauce couldn't save them. The toast was overcooked and tough, while the fries somehow managed to be both cold and stale-tasting at the same time. My boyfriend's chicken had decent flavor but was served barely warm, and the same could be said for his beans and fries. The ribs were tender and flavorful, but they too arrived only lukewarm. Even the sweet potato was cold. The staff members we interacted with were all kind and courteous, and our server was very sweet. However, service was inattentive throughout the meal, and there didn't appear to be much management presence on the floor. For a meal that cost over $100 before tip, we expected much better. As someone who works as a server myself, I understand how stressful and demanding the restaurant industry can be, which is why I rarely leave negative reviews. However, given the long waits, slow service, and consistently cold food, this experience was difficult to overlook. read more

Terrific Service! We were a group of eight and our girl was polite, fast and on top of everything. I ordered a salad that was very good. For my mail meal I had Brisket burger with onion rings and a side of beans. Everything was great! I did use the restroom and it was clean but they didn't have any paper towels. We called for a reservation but were told if we come right away we should be able to get in and we did! It was a Friday night at 6:30. By 7 pm the place was full. My father were driving on a southeastern USA national park tour and stopped to eat at Rib Country in Murphy, NC along our way. The restaurant was pretty busy. Strangely, they have this big waiting room and nearly everyone has to wait 5-10 minutes to be seated even with open tables. I'm not sure if this is to make it easier for the waitstaff or if the restaurant is understaffed. The service and the dinner was very good and well worth the stop. We tried and brisket and the ribs. The brisket was top notch. The ribs were okay and a avid traveler, not the best I have eaten, but good overall. The beans were great while the other sides like the slaw were just good. As a small chain, this is a great location to stop and grab a bite if you are traveling or want some decent food. I am glad we stopped and we enjoyed our meal. read more

I'll eat there regularly when I feel like going up to the casino. It's always been good. The ribs have been real tender. Like most bbq places, for me personally they're drowning in the sauce. So now I order them dry. I just wish they had a better sides selection. No green beans? What's up with that. The mac n cheese is good. Their wooden picnic like tables and benches aren't very comfortable since they aren't padded. Thanks to Yelp. We found this place on our way to Asheville. Super friendly service walked right in and got a table. They were super busy, but the waiter was very accommodating. Made sure we always had refills and took our order right away. We ended up getting the pulled pork with a classic right couldn't go wrong. The french fries reminded me of McDonald's. They were very small but the super hot and tasty. My husband got the baked beans with were delicious and had pork in Them. The sandwich she couldn't go wrong lots of flavor. We ordered the sliced brisket (which you can order lean or fatty) sweet potato's with a delicious brown sugar cinnamon butter, fried okra and pork & beans. Oh yes and for dessert we ordered what they called fried apple pie topped with vanilla ice cream. I placed an online order today and picked it up around 4:45 pm. The order included 1 country feast, 1 side salad with 1000 island, 1 order of fried okra. We picked up the order and drove 50 minutes home. Upon unpacking the order I was missing the Cole slaw, baked beans, and side salad. I called the store and initially spoke with manager, Robin. Even with the name on order and order number, she stated she could not find my order. She then got someone else named Summer. She stated she could not do anything without finding the order. My only option she stated was for me to drive back 50 mins each way to resolve the issue. I asked if I could take a picture of the receipt and she said the only way to send it was via email and a manager would look at it tonight. I explained the order was missing the side salad and the baked beans and slaw. At the time the order was picked up the restaurant was not busy. I called the store at 5:43 pm to report this problem. A random roadside stop led to some of the best bbq I've ever had. The pulled pork was smoked perfectly. The bark was tender and sweet. The meat was kissed with just the perfect amount of smoke. The hand battered onion rings were perfectly cooked so that the onions were almost creamy and caramelized inside their perfectly crispy little shells. Macaroni and cheese and slaw also fared well, but the portion was so huge we couldn't finish our dinners. And a whole pulled pork plate for $14.90!!!! What a steal! read more

After a year's absence, I decided to go back to see if their quality control had improved. It hasn't . The (wet) brisket was very fatty and should have been trimmed better. The plate I received should not have been served. Server asked if I wanted brisket sliced or chopped; I replied sliced ... what I received was pieces/bits pulled or left over from slices. This is a place seemingly acclaimed by the local population as "one of the best rib places they've ever had" yet it left much to be desired. Had the ribs and they were the smallest rack I've ever encountered, dry, and 'homemade' sauces reminded me of high-fructose corn syrup. It was just my experience, couldn't finish the other half of the ribs, but the manager did throw in a 25% off the bill for the trouble. The star rating is based on food not the service. I ordered takeout and the person I spoke with could not have been nicer. When I picked up my order she exuded hospitality. I was only in town for a few days and Murphy doesn't seem to have much to choose from but I definitely would roll back time here if I could. So when I called I asked for her recommendation. I ordered the turkey and it was cold. Not room temperature but cold. Into the microwave it went. Still not great or good so I slathered it with sauce. That made it palatable. I saw the menu said the baked bean recipe was a "family recipe" and I would not put that on the menu. I threw it out after trying it. For entree I ordered the pork platter umm the pork was rather dry I smothered it with the sweet and the spicy bbq sauce and it did the trick! I really enjoyed the bbq beans. We had hit the road early with friends and ended up going into Tennessee before circling back into NC. Very popular place; we waited a few short minutes before being seated. Smoked wings to start for the table. WOW! Really tasty and we were told they have their own BBQ sauce just for the wings. Might as well try an onion ring loaf? Well, almost. We were advised that someone didn't prep them correctly. Just onion rings instead and they were good too. Might as well throw in some Fried Green Tomatoes for good measure as we are in the South. Good bites paired with the dipping sauce. I'm shocked at this point we're even ordering entrees after all the grub. We pressed on for review purposes. I ordered the Baby Back Ribs and Brisket Plate. Ribs were perfectly cooked and the Brisket met my picky standards. Every diner had this variation of this platter including Ribs and Fried Shrimp. I didn't get any Shrimp! Sides were delicious from my Baked Potato to the Brown Sugar heavy Baked Beans. Sweet Potato and house made Apple Sauce rounded out a great meal all served with a thick slice of Texas Toast Garlic Bread. Texan approved! read more

I think the waiter misheard my order... I ordered the brisket platter but he brought out a BUTTER platter! The meat was so tender and flavorful. I waved my fork near it and it melted into delicious bites. Amazing! There's a selection of sauces on the table, the beans were firm and swimming in a pork laden sauce, the toast was a throwback to the way my mom made it- with a sprinkle of garlic salt on it, and the onion rings while tasty, lost the breading by the time they arrived to the table. Been passing this restaurant for a long time, and decided to give it a try today for lunch. We had Luncheon Specials of BBQ Pulled Pork Plate and a BBQ Chicken Plate. While the "Plates" do come with a choice of two sides and a slice of toasted garlic bread, we found the meat portions to be a bit disappointing. The pulled pork was on the dry side. The chicken plate had one piece of chicken, with very little meat on the bone. The chicken was so dry I had to take a sip of soda with each bite to be able to get it down. A side order of Onion Rings was mediocre. So that just about describes it, mediocre lunch for $36, excluding the tip (two lunch plates, side of Onion Rings, and 1 soda, for over $40. I know inflation, etc, etc, but this was just not a meal worth $40. Today was our first time, but it was also our last. read more

One of the things I miss about living in North Carolina would be the BBQ. And mountain BBQ is even better... tender falls apart in your mouth and the flavor never disappoints. We learned about Rib Country from fellow Yelpers and it is also listed in our cabins guidebook for top places to eat. So of course we had to see what all the talk was about. 1. Location: If coming from downtown Murphy it's only 3 miles away located on top of a LARGE hill... and a small parking lot. It was sprinkling when we arrived but the parking lot was clean and compact with no signs of trash littering the parking lot. 2. Customer Service: We were greeted right away and taken to a front booth by the front door. All staff wore mask as well which was much welcome. Our waitress Gracye was super nice and attentive and we learned that she was also a dog mom as well. She never left us for long and would check back periodically to offer refills and see if we were okay. She also seemed to know when we needed boxes to go before we even had to ask. 3. Food: Amazing! I ordered a condo dinner plate which was a full rack of ribs with pulled pork and two sides (plain sweet potato & baked beans) the sweet potato was meant to come with a cinnamon butter but being dairy & gluten free that's a no no. The ribs literally fell off the bone... there was no need to eat meat off the bone. The meat just slid right off the bone and the pork was tender and flavorful. I've so missed mustard bbq. I poured it all over everything. Lol. 4. Cleanliness: No sticky tables, everything was wiped down and refilled. It also looked like they wiped down the bbq bottles because there weren't sticky. When walking to the restrooms. I noticed that all the booths had clear plastic dividers between them. All the tables were wiped down or being cleaned right away and all the staff had masks on that were on the floor. I did notice that a few kitchen staff coming from the back didn't have mask but it didn't bother me overly much. The bathroom was also clean and well stocked which is always a bonus.
