I didn't go to work today. Instead, I took a leisurely stroll through downtown Mount Clemens. During a recent visit to downtown, I happened upon David Femminineo, a local TV famous celebrity. As I walked along Main Street, I happened to come across one of my favorite restaurants, Mount Clemens Grill. I walked in and notified my waitress that I did not have a reservation. With a pleasant smile, she acted as if it wasn't any kind of problem and offered to let me sit wherever I wanted. This was the beginning of a great dining experience! Once I was seated, a menu was offered and my drink selected. When she brought my drink ($2.50 hot tea, with sliced lemon and a bit of honey), I requested a $12 Farmer's Omelette, with rye toast. With Motown favorites playing in the back ground and a nice view of the activities outside, it was a peaceful wait until my order arrived. Now, I enjoy eating out, and when I do, I like to order satisfying meals. Well, this certainly 'fit the bill' and I devoured my omelette with vigor. The only alteration I made was adding some salt and pepper, and a little hot sauce to satisfy my tongue. I was able to maintain my status as a member of the Clean Plate Club®. My waitress was very nice and treated me like I was the only customer in the restaurant! She checked up on me once and found everything to be in order. She dropped off the bill and after the Governor got her cut, the total was $15.36. As I like to do with all small dining establishments, I paid with cash and left a decent tip. Another local place to me that I could kick myself for not going to sooner!!!! Went on a Wednesday right at noon and it was full with a lunch crowd, but not hard to get a table. You're greeted right away and they'll point you to a table. It's a small place. The smell when you walk in is delicious!! My friend had a lovely, well made cheese omelette with good hash browns. Breakfast all day. She picked the cinnamon raisin toast, which was excellent. Nice thick slices. I had the Spinach, strawberry, chicken salad with a super tasty raspberry vinaigrette. My wife wanted breakfast today, and she was particular about wanting a place with good hash browns. The pictures looked good, but they didn't do justice to just how good. The cook used just the right combination of butter and heat. They're crispy on the surface, and so tasty with every bite. I'm usually suspicious of steak and eggs on a menu, because the steak is usually subpar. Here, it's excellent. It was perfectly cooked, lean, and flavorful. You get an 8 ounce New York Strip with three eggs and toast, all for only $13.99. I love the seasoning on the corned beef hash. Normally, the corn beef is enough, but they added something that elevates it. You get a giant plate of deliciousness - corned beef hash with three eggs and toast - for $8.49. The Mt. Clemens Grill is a straight up diner. Being a straight up diner, it means you are very close to the other tables. I learned that the Rolling Stones were going to be in town later this year, and I heard quite a lot about some woman's situation with her garden. And, today was a hot day outside, and climate control in the restaurant was not great. But, you get so much good quality for the money here. Plus, the service is excellent, and I swear the food was at our table about five minutes after we ordered it. I can definitely see this becoming a regular destination for me. read more

The Mt. Clemens Grill is a classic staple in downtown. They serve up some yummy food and in a great unassuming casual location across from the courthouse. Their menu is vast and there is something for everyone. Personally, I love their green and blue chicken salad, it's fresh and delicious. If they don't mention it, all salads can be ordered as a half portion, and trust me the salads are huge! The service is always quick and friendly here as well! read more

This place is so yummy! Another place we usually like to go had a line out the door - and we were a party of seven, which meant an even longer wait. My Detroit based daughter suggested this place, and it was worth the drive! They seated the seven of us right away - and they didn't bat an eye in doing so. Instantly we had a big table complete with water and coffee. This is a very casual place, with very friendly staff. You could tell that no one was being rushed or hurried. We ordered and our brunch arrived in what seemed like minutes. Which made us wonder. But it was wonderful! They make their own corned beef. My son had a gorgeous Reuben, my daughter had the corned beef hash, and I asked for a not-on-the menu/special order Reuben omelette that was so good. The egg was almost crepe thin that allowed the Reuben to shine! Awesome gluten free option! My husband had an order of the biscuits and gravy, with some eggs you will see dripped on the biscuits. The biscuits were good, but the gravy was exceptional! My other daughter and her fiance had breakfast skillets, each one could have fed two people. They were not only huge servings, but they were delicious! Our son-in-law had an order of the chicken and waffles. Considering he is from the south, he knows what he's doing with chicken and waffles and said it was absolutely delicious. Everything came out quickly and was delicious. I've been there 3 times since a friend suggested this place. I'm on a pretty strict diet so this place is quickly becoming a favorite. Their salads are great. The chicken they put on them is amazing. This was my first visit to a new place in downtown Mt. Clemens, I want to get it out there for people to discover. We had intended to go to a different breakfast spot, but it wasn't open yet (after posted opening time of 7 AM), so we headed into downtown and discovered this location had reopened with a new name. The interior was clean and brighter than I recall, I was glad to see several table occupied early on a Saturday morning. I can't really rate much, since all I had was the loaded oatmeal, which comes with raisins, walnuts, strawberries and bananas. I always appreciate when they give you a container of milk that pours well, and some brown sugar on the side that isn't old and caked. Scrambled eggs ordered by my spouse were done just right and not at all greasy. The breakfasts going to other tables looked plentiful and tasty. There are some cheaper weekday breakfast specials, but only Mon-Fri. The regular breakfasts run a bit on the pricey side, but the server said that the meat portions are more than you normally see. For example, 5 pieces of bacon vs. 2 or 3. As for service, we were greeted and given coffee very quickly. The server was very pleasant and kept our mugs topped. Meals were coming out of the kitchen rapidly, too. There are a lot of good sounding burgers and salads on the menu. As Mt. Clemens Grill is only open for breakfast and lunch, I do intend to come back and will report on the second impression. read more

My first time coming here . It was a great experience. When I walked in I asked the person walking out how's the food he said it was good and clean. When he said it was clean. that's when I made up my mind to go in there and try it. Just remember that it's busy between 12 & 1:30 after that it slows down big time. So if you get there between those time. order early because they take their time preparing the food which is fine by me . That's when you know that these people care about their food I ordered a bowl of chicken lemon rice, very tasty and fresh with some sourness which is how is supposed to be. Then I ordered The Chicken Blueberry Salad with walnuts , Spinach, and Feta cheese. The chicken was very tasty and fresh with a good size portion. The waiters and waitresses were working very hard . I came here all the time while I was in town visiting family. There are a lot of diners in the area and this is one of best. The coffee is very good. I drink it black so the flavor is particularly important to me, and it's clearly higher quality than most. The prices are very fair and the portions are more than generous. The omelettes and skillets are top notch and their potatoes are fantastic. The omelettes don't come with potatoes, you have to pay a nominal fee for them, but this is actually a positive to me, because sometimes I want a healthier/lighter breakfast and there's no way I could stop myself from eating the potatoes if they came automatically! Ok, now it's day 2 of my Great Lunch Excursion so I tried Mt. Clemens Grill again. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad and chicken noodle soup. Wow. The salad was fresh and came with a hard boiled egg, sliced perfectly giving the salad a nice rich flavor. The chicken was marinated and nicely and cubed. The pita was again delicious! Caution: you may want to order the dressing on the side...they put a lot in the salad... But the soup...ohhhhhh the soup..... The chicken noodle soup was the best I have EVER had in any restaurant in my near fifty years on this earth. Chock full of fresh celery and carrots. Fresh minced onion. The chicken was NOT from a supply store, rather it appeared homemade. Added bonus: all white meat. The large, twirled egg noodles were tender and plentiful.
