I have ordered from Riccardo's for the past 10 years. Trying out the pizza all over the tri-state from New York City, Northern Jersey, to Philly, I can easily say I have come back to this pizzeria each time and compare the quality from the other areas to here. I tried the pizza in Italy and noticed that the flavor of this pizza is similar to the profile back in the country that is the heart of pizza. All you need to know about the pizza: The sauce is sweet. There is no "tang" at all. If you love sweet sauce, you'll like their pizza. If not, you'll hate it. I do enjoy the sandwiches. Bread is incredibly soft and fresh and the cheesesteak meat is always tender with no fat. They are the only game around for almost 2 miles.... The other day I saw a coupon for Riccardo's Pizza and got excited. I worked there while in college and they had the best pizza around back in the 1970's. It was because of the crust, so delicious! So we ordered a pizza twist which was like a pizza turnover and I'm not sure if the cheese was bad or if it was the sauce but tasted like sour milk. There was no questioning it! I called and spoke to some guy. He eventually issued us a refund but I was a little concerned how he seemed to just blow me off especially because he offered to make us a new one. Umm no thanks. Just moved into the area and ordered a cheese pizza and a two liter as it was getting late and were tired from moving. First. The cost was almost $20- the pizza was HORRIBLE- low level cafeteria pizza. The dough was cardboard like and stale tasting the crust was inedible. The cheese looked low quality. The cooked pizza had almost the exact same consistency as Domino's. The cheese didn't string like it should. Sauce was bland and not nearly enough of it. Total waste of money. DiGiorno's actually blows away this pizza- sad state of affairs. The only reason this place could be open is they are running cocaine or having poker games in the back. NEVER go here! I'll start with the bad, because there's always bad and I might as well be upfront about it: What I don't like about them: - Prices subject to change is a real thing. They don't update their menus when the prices go up and you'll expect to pay one thing, then pay another (though they DO confirm the price upon placing the order). - The eggplant parm is hit or miss. Sometimes it's soft and succulent, other times it's tough and chewy. - *Sometimes* the cheesesteak has a tiny bit of gristle in it, but I think unavoidable sometimes. - The smaller pizza sizes aren't worth the money. Go large or go home. But I guess that's true of every pizza place under the sun. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Now the good... What I love about them: - First off, their pizza is incredible, and if you order extra cheese, you get extra cheese. Another reviewer mentioned a sweet sauce and I suppose I'm inclined to agree. It won't taste like sauce you get at a Pizza Hut or the freezer (not like there's anything wrong with that -- you like what you like!) It certainly doesn't have that tang/bitterness, the lack of which I love. Personally I think tang means cheap sauce, though again, you like what you like. The sauce is NOT pure sugar, though, if that's the impression you got. It's a tasty sauce with no bite. It's good ol' South Jersey pizza! - Their delivery is pretty darn quick, usually arriving 5 minutes early from the projected time (or maybe they over-estimate? I'd rather someone over-estimate than under-estimate though!) - Their cheesesteak fries. Heck, all their fries are good. They're the crinkle-cuts. 'Nuff said. - Their cheesesteaks are, by and large, great, especially with that soft bread. Mmm! Overall, I both am and am not surprised at all the negative reviews. In my experience, people generally only take the time out of their day to post a review when they feel slighted. One bad experience is gonna happen to a few folks and they're the ones who need an outlet for their anger. Satiated people tend not to wanna sign up for an account and leave a review. We order out so we don't have to do any work. But on the other hand, this place is really good, and I couldn't let there be just bad reviews. What a shame! It's my go-to spot for pizza and whatnot. Solena's and Randazzo's are equally good (to give perspective on my tastes), but they're too far, so Riccardo's wins out on that one. I say give them a shot and keep in mind that people will burn the city to spite their neighbors. And don't be afraid to ask for an itemized breakdown of pricing. This is the first time I ordered from Riccardos many of my co-workers order lunch from them.I placed my order my opinion pretty big order. I went to pick it up I had to wait a few minutes. I picked up a newspaper they had in the store started reading it. At that time I seen a coupon for $10.00 a order of $50.00 or more. When my order was ready I presented the coupon I asked if I could redeemed it. The employee said I will have to ask him meaning her boss. This man looked at the coupon hesitated and said he will honor it next time ok? I looked at him in disbelief picked up my food walked over to the trashcan and through it away and walked out. My husband called to complain the man said I agreed to use it next time. When is next time? When am I going to spend over $50.00 again? NEVER!!. The boss continued to tell my husband his resturante has been there for 27 years so what my husband has to say really does not matter. Looking at the reviews this place only has two stars I understand why. Terrible customer service when you call the customer a liar. Obviously he thinks 27 years justifies treating customers poorly. the food here is subpar based on the price. Everything is OK, but not worth the price. One thing I got that was completely dissatisfying would be the mega fries they were almost $7 for a tiny tin container of fries horrible. I saw these bad reviews when I Googled for Ricardo's number. I can't believe it. or maybe I can, I guess. Anyway, anytime I'm in the area I like to stop by for a slice. If it's been out too long (I'll ask) They have started a new one for slices for me. I don't know if they always do this for customers but it was well worth the 20 minute wait.. Fresh is the best. A regular cheese pizza cost in the $15 range with tax. But it is very good. I just ordered one for Christmas eve treat and am driving the 15 minutes and hoping it wont cool off much on the 15 minutes home drive.
