We love coming here for the bingsu and rice balls! Located in the amazing Asian plaza, they have a ton of great shops around. The only struggle is parking! The service is quick and efficient, and we have always been happy with our orders. We got the large Oreo Bingsu last time, to share for 2 people. The display size looked good, but we were shocked when this came out. It was HUGE! Which was great, but we had to buckle down and eat this thing. It was almost comical how large this tub was for 2 people. The flavor was great though, and they even layered the Oreo to make sure you had a good ratio of topping to ice. Great deal, but next time we will bring more friends!
I was excited to try this place but it was an underwhelming experience. I don't know why I thought the raw spicy salmon would be sashimi but it wasn't and I didn't enjoy the texture. I ordered the tuna as well but got two salmon and didn't realize until we left so since I didn't enjoy the salmon, I didn't have a great experience. It was a lot of rice and a bit of protein, but fair because the price wasn't bad. The binja looked bomb though so I wish I tried that.
The service here is ridiculously quick. I'm sure everything is already premade but it was still impressive. They also have really great deals for different combos. Fried Shrimp Mayo Rice Ball - I loved the taste of this one but I was surprised to find that it was literally one piece of fried shrimp with mayo. I expected at least two pieces or for the shrimp to be a bit chopped up to make an actual filling. Spicy tuna - Also super good, and low-key spicier than I expected! This one had a good amount of filling which I was happy about especially after eating the shrimp one. Miso Soup - You get a really decent amount for the price and it is so delicious!! It came out steaming hot though so be careful. But it was perfect since it was pretty cold outside.
Got the 2 rice ball and miso soup combo. The miso soup was watered down and there was nothing in it, no seaweed or tofu. They just put the miso paste in but it wasn't enough. The rice balls were big, but not enough filling and the seaweed wasn't crunchy. Seems like we ordered wrong since it was super busy, seems like it would be a good dessert / bubble tea place
4 stars because there aren't other onigiri options in Austin. I think you need to try the different fillings here to see which suits you best, here are the ones I tried: Fried Shrimp - 3/5 stars. Nice big shrimp in the middle of the onigiri, but I didn't love this combination. The batter on the shrimp was thick but soggy because it's rolled up with the rice. Might be better if it was fresh, but I think the non-fried options are suited better for onigiri. Spicy Tuna - 4/5 stars. At first bite, it felt like there wasn't enough spicy tuna spread throughout. But as I continued to bite into it, I was pleasantly surprised that every bite had a decent amount of spicy tuna flavor. This was a classic and it did not disappoint. Soft Shell crab - 4/5 stars. Similar to the fried shrimp, the batter isn't as crispy when inside the onigiri. However, I felt like the amount of crab was way better value than the fried shrimp version. This one is definitely worth trying.
Came here for a quick lunch with friends. The restaurant is located in the busy shopping center with the 99 ranch. The interior is clean, and it is a fun place if you are looking for lighter bites and drinks. We got the onigiri with salmon and rolls with salmon and the miso soup. The onigiris were a disappointment as they were mostly rice. The rolls were quite plain. The miso soup was good though.
This place definitely hit the spot! I was looking for a savory snack to indulge in and the onigiris did the trick. They were so delicious! I got the spicy salmon and grilled salmon onigiri. Both were really tasty and the furikake seasonings were just perfect. Every bite, you can taste the nori with the seasoned rice and salmon filling. I'm drooling just thinking about it. I also got the Unagi rice roll. The rice roll is a bit plain compared to the Unagi because there's not much seasoning on the rice, it's literally just rolled rice wrapped with seaweed and filled with Unagi in the center. But it makes up for it in the Unagi sauce. I love Unagi and that was what made the rice roll all worth getting. I would love to try an Unagi onigiri but they don't seem to offer that. Nonetheless, if you like Unagi, you'll enjoy their rice roll too!
It's just okay. I wish they would season their rice more because such a large portion of the rice ball is rice, and there are a lot of bites you'll take where it's just bland rice. I had the spicy salmon, salmon, and crab. I preferred the spicy salmon because the other two were also on the bland side. I'm glad that I at least tried it once because I've been craving onigiri, but it's definitely not somewhere I'd go often. It's pretty pricey, and they also took a relatively long time to make my order with how few people were in the store.
Rice ball co is located inside the snowy village dessert place, so a little hidden. I went ahead and tried two onigiris for a small lunch. I would say 3 would be filling.. two were enough to hold me over til dinner. I got: - grilled salmon onigiri - tuna mayo onigiri Both were very good and seasoned well with sesame seeds. They were also larger than I expected, so that was a nice surprise. The fillings in both were substantial, too! I'm looking forward to coming back and trying the others.
Fast service and the person that took my order was friendly, but the food was not worth it. I ordered the Fried Chicken Riceball, Spicy Tuna Riceball, and Spicy Salmon Riceball. The Fried Chicken Riceball wasn't bad. The sauce they put on it was good, the meat was well seasoned, and it had a decent portion of meat to rice ratio. I did not like the Spicy Tuna Riceball and the Spicy Salmon Riceball. It lacked flavor, and they did not taste like Tuna nor Salmon. They also did not have much meat in it and too much rice.

The shitake mushroom egg was interesting, but there was a whole boiled egg inside... it made eating the onigiri a little tough to eat, and I felt a scrambled texture would mix with the diced shitake mushroom better. I felt like the fried shrimp was not made to be in an onigiri bc the batter was soft, and mayo dollop on top didn't mesh as well as I thought it would. The spicy salmon was not bad, but honestly, I couldn't taste much of the salmon flavor. The only thing I liked was the ham and cheese taiyaki. Had plenty of cheese, and the bread was dense but crunchy. I don't know if I would come back, but maybe if I really need to satisfy my onigiri craving.
When you're obsessed with simple Asian comfort foods, and lived and breathed onigiris on your weeks of summer vacationing in Japan and Hawaii, you know you're always down to pick up something quick and easy to munch on. Enter Rice Ball shop, located inside Snowy Village's shop. My husband and I rolled ourselves in, AFTER devouring 15+ plates at Kura sushi because I always make sure we get our toy (I know it's not free when you've eaten enough food for a family lol), but I know he is obsessed with onigiris and would move us to Japan and Hawaii for their 7-11's and their rice balls easily found. It's the equivalent of grabbing a PB&J sandwich, corndog, or a slice of pizza in America. Rice balls and rolls start at $3 and there are several combos and premium proteins that make some of them pricier. We snagged 2 combo #3's and out came the guy who makes them and there was an abundance of quality, diligence, furikake and seasoned rice and nori packing our proteins. I saved mine for dinner and they held up wonderfully and my husband had his second lunch and said worth it. A bit pricy for what it is (simple, street food), but the taste and the convenience can't be beat. We'll be back and order in a bunch since they do very well in packing it up to go! Drool, now if only other Snowy Villages did the same so I could eat these alongside my shaved ice and taiyaki :p

Firstly, each rice ball is made fresh, which is great, but the amount of rice to the amount of filling was always inconsistent between the rolls in general. Some had too much rice and some had just the right amount. None of them had too little rice. This review is ONLY for the rice balls, as I didn't try the hand rolls. I got 6 kinds: 1) Crabmeat - my favorite! the rice:crab ratio was good and it tasted pretty refreshing, even though the combo may sound a little weird. 2) Chicken karaage - I liked this one, even though there was more rice and the ratio was a little off. The sauce complimented the food nicely. 3) Pork belly: I liked how the pork was cut into smaller pieces making it easier to eat, but I wasn't a fan of the sauce it had on it. Maybe the combination of everything for this riceball didn't quite do it for me. 4) Spicy salmon: both of this and the spicy tuna had.... no fish?? it really just looked like a spicy paste that was meant to taste like salmon/tuna. I didn't see any fish at all. 5) Spicy tuna: refer above and pictures 6) Beef: I liked this one as well, the beef reminded me of bulgogi. Overall, I don't think that I would come back to get more since I've tried most of the different kinds of riceballs and know the general taste of this. It wasn't super special and just loaded with rice. I did really like the crab one so I may be back if I get cravings.
wow!!! i took a chance and this place is now one of my favorite places to eat in austin now omg. i know a lot of the reviews said that there wasn't enough filling, but mine had a lot of filling in each rice ball i ordered. yes there was a lot of rice but...it's a rice ball lol. i had the dumplings and eel, salmon, and beef rice balls. i also got the red bean taiyaki! My wife and I had eaten dinner at a neighboring restaurant and we were looking for dessert afterward. We decided to check out Rice Ball and we definitely made the right choice. The restaurant is small inside, not so much room so be mindful if you're coming in at a busier time with more than 3 or 4 people. The employee behind the counter was very knowledgeable and we appreciated her suggestions! We decided to share the Mango Bingsu dessert--shaved ice with condensed milk, chunks of mango, mango syrup and some whipped cream on top. It was the perfect size to split between two people. It was SO good. I appreciated the large chunks of mango on top, in the middle and at the bottom of the dessert--sometimes restaurants cheat you out on fruit toppings. In addition to the sweetness and tang of the mango the condensed milk added a creaminess to it that balanced it all very well. The sweetness of the shaved ice was also surprising--almost like frozen milk. It was very refreshing. We loved it and the pricing was fair for how much goodness came from this dessert. We will definitely be back to try more of their dessert options! read more

Hard to find but worth the effort, Rice Ball Co. Is nested inside a boba joint called Snowy Village nearby to Kura Sushi. The idea of someone dedicated to just making onigiri seemed super appealing so I swung by after work. The premise is really simple, rice balls with filling (anything from tuna mayo or grilled salmon to beef, fried chicken) wrapped with seaweed and tasty seasoning called furikake. The average price is $3.50 but they have fancier ones like soft shell crab and pork belly that can run up to $6 a pop. Service was super fast and I got the salmon and tuna mayo. I thought I would need additional seasoning (like soy sauce) but these were surprisingly delicious. The filling is fresh, the seasoning was super flavorful. For a to go meal this would be perfect over lunch break. Would help to get a dedicated sign for people to find this place as this is quite a gem. Highly recommended! read more

***RICE BALL CO. IS INSIDE SNOWY VILLAGE*** This cute little pop-up shop is delicious! My grilled salmon rice ball was round and compact. I loved that it didn't fall apart while I was eating it. The flavor was great. The grilled salmon in the middle was cooked well. I thought the rice-to-filling ratio was perfect. At $3.50 per ball, these rice balls make a tasty, affordable snack. Get two or three balls for a full meal. (They have bundle/combo specials for multiple ball orders.) I can't wait to go back and try the raw salmon and raw spicy tuna! I believe they just recently started to sell rice balls which are balls of rice lol and various types of meat that can be packed inside that ranges from cooked meat to raw sushi grade fish. it's about $3.50-$5 per rice ball depending which meat you select but you get 10% off with a student ID! I got one rice ball with pork belly which was very delicious. it was pretty filling for me but if you're wanting a meal out of this, 2 - 3 rice balls should be enough! plenty of parking as it's located next to 99 Ranch and 85 degree bakery. plenty of seating inside with movable tables. read more

After reading about Rice Ball on Eater.com, I was excited to finally try this place. Their 3-rice ball combo for $9 seemed the perfect onigiri sampler. I got to try three different flavors, and saved fifty cents off each as a bonus. All were made to order. The tuna mayo and grilled salmon onigiri were tasty and well seasoned. I do wish these contained a little more filling as both were heavy on the rice. The shiitake mushroom egg onigiri was not what I expected. It was lovely that it contained one whole hard-boiled soy sauce egg, but the four tiny pieces of mushroom (together they were about the size of my thumbnail) was most disappointing. I got my order to go and ate the rice balls a few hours later. Other than the seaweed being a bit soggy, they held up really well. Why is Rice Ball called Snowy Village? This spot is great for boba, lunch, and dessert! The smoothie bobas are made from real fruit and there are also coffee and tea options that you could add boba to. I got the strawberry smoothie with boba which was made with fresh strawberries. We also got an iced coffee boba which was a little on the bitter side which I don't mind because I like the taste of coffee (vs milk and sugar). The boba wasn't super sweet, which appeals to some but I do like my boba to be on the overly sweet side. You can tell that they may not boil their boba in sugar / let is sit in sugar after cooking. The real stars of the show here are obviously the rice balls and rice rolls. Here is what we ordered: salmon rice roll (x2) Fried chicken rice ball Japanese fried chicken rice ball Unagi rice roll Fried shrimp and Mayo rice ball (x2) Spicy tuna rice ball Beef rice ball The salmon rice roll was one of my favorites made of fresh + raw thick cut salmon. It was simple and has a little more rice than a typical sushi roll, but with the tick cut salmon it balanced out. They have a little station on the side of the register that has soy sauce that I dipped my roll in. The fried shrimp and Mayo rice ball was another favorite! I ended up ordering another one of these for the road before heading out. The spicy tuna rice ball was decently spicy, I heard the spicy salmon was also pretty spicy too. The amount of rice really evens out the spice though which makes it really good. The Japanese fried chicken rice ball has a teriyaki sauce in it that adds a whole new level of flavor that I loved. Only thing with the fried chicken is that I wasn't blown away by the quality of chicken meat. Wasn't bad quality chicken at all but I think a thigh cut would've been more juicy. I would still recommend it if you do not like fish. read more
The place is called rice ball snow ball, so I was a little confused how Yelp just says it's rice ball- maybe I meant to post this for snow ball. Food: 4 stars Ordered an iced vanilla latte and a sweet potato french taiyaki. The latte was too sweet for our taste- it tastes like those kopiko hard coffee candies if you've ever had those. The taiyaki was good- kind of too greasy and it leaves a bit of an oil slick in your mouth, so definitely have some kind of drink to go with it. Eat it while it's still warm so that it doesn't get chewy. Service: 3/5 stars Cashier was a little rude and staff seemed to stumble around the stations, which took forever for orders to be fulfilled. I'm glad they're hiring because they need all the help they can get. Atmosphere: 3.5/5 stars Small place that doesn't have too much seating. Cute decor (though not the most instagrammable spot). Floors were pretty crusty, but today was super busy with limited staff so maybe they haven't had time to clean between customers. COVID prevention measures: There is hand sanitizer provided and staff wear PPE. Tables didn't seem to be sanitized down after use. read more
Surprisingly quite good for something inside a shaved ice store. I tried the rice balls which were quite flavorful. I had the spicy salmon as and the shrimp tempura and both were good. Though with the spice, I couldn't really taste the quality of the raw salmon so I can't comment on the quality. 2 was a good amount for be to be satisfied and not overly full. I appreciate that they have combos with miso as well. I really wanted boba to go with it, but the boba here is not great. Definitely a nice lunch. read more

Had to read the reviews to find out where this place was. Right inside Snowy Village!! It's nice that you can get rice balls, drinks and desserts all in one place. Only thing lacking was service tbh. You walk in and order at the front. They have a lot of options for a rice roll or ball! And combos that make a full meal with variety. Once we ordered and sat down, i looked through their drink menu and quickly ordered a drink right after -- cold brew peach tea. It was a little hard to distinguish between a some of the rolls/balls but they were all delicious! Especially the spicy tuna and eel ones. I'd like to see some different combinations in a single roll but I'm happy to see that it was filled well and not 90% rice. Only thing was, my drink came basically after we finished eating. I think they were confused or light staffed cause people after me got the same drink before i did lol. read more

[covid review] Tldr: yummy onigiri spot! Won't fill you up for the price though. Yes, as all the reviews say, this place doesn't have a storefront and is *inside snowy village* But onto the food. Takeout packaging was very simple and aesthetic. The texture of the rice was enjoyable and the filling ratio was decent and appropriate for the balance of flavors. More filling would have made it felt more worth it though, because... My only complaint is the price -- I had 2 rice balls ($9+ pre-tax, since I had a "premium" ball) but I was hungry a couple hours afterwards. Not somewhere I'd get meals from regularly, but the food itself is very good! read more

Besides that the N's look like M's in their poorly chosen font, I found the menu easy to read. You can get rice balls, rolls (literally just one), or a bento. I opted for two riceballs and it was super filling. I think there was probably a little more rice than I'd like but there wasn't a lack of filling. The spicy salmon was too spicy for me, but I'm a weakling so it's probably fine for other people. I was also happy to find tuna mayo on the menu as that was my favorite riceball of choice when I visited Japan. Loved the cute wrapping paper the food comes with as well. First time we tried coming here, we drove around the parking lot 3 times and couldn't find it. Because it's INSIDE Snowy Village. I'm not quite sure what their relationship are to each other, but don't make the same mistake I did. Dare I say, this might be my new favorite onigiri shop. Each onigiri is $3.50, premium onigiris are $4.75, great price for the size. They are very generous with the filling, and this is the ONLY onigiri place that I know of that serves raw fillings. Which I much prefer over cooked fillings. The spicy salmon and tuna were perfectly seasoned, and is on the spicy side. They also have bento box options. Loved that I found this place. Was specifically looking for rice balls & was even happier when I found out they also had boba tea & desserts. On the outside, the place is called Snowy Village, but I was told they would be changing the name to Rice Ball. They have WiFi available & the guy that took my order was very nice & helpful explaining what they had. I ordered an Avocado Roll, Spicy Tuna ball & miso soup. I also had a Boba Milktea. Everything was delicious & the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely be visiting again when I return to Austin. read more
A decent snack when you're on the go. It's located inside snowy village so it makes for the perfect bite to go along with a boba tea. The rice balls are decent size for the price. They offer different varieties of raw and cooked fish and some veggie options as well. Overall, nothing amazing and nothing bland. They don't overstuff the rice ball with whatever choice of protein and the rice had a decent texture. Only qualm is that the rice balls are slightly oily in texture? Not sure why. read more
This place has a lot of potential to be my go-to spot. $10 for 2 rice ball/rolls + 1 regular sized drink is a steal! We ordered a spicy salmon rice roll and a real crabmeat rice ball. But ended up receiving a spicy salmon ball instead of roll. Nbd. The crabmeat rice ball was a little underwhelming. While they did, indeed, use real crabmeat, it needed more mayo or spice. But, nothing a little squirt of sriracha can't fix. Oh, and there is an upcharge if you order a Premium roll/ball. I think they're still fairly new and need more consistency in their products.
