Great place for a quick bite to eat! The owner was super friendly and has been around for years! Great food and many options for food. I have been a regular customer for about 6yrs. The food has been pretty good up till now. Last week I ordered the sweet & sour pork and it was room temperature. The gal That works there does not check to see if everything is staying warm. Then today lunch , everything looks like they just put it out. I got 1 item the Mongolian beef . It taste good but it was so chewy I could eat it the beef. BEEF was like rubber SOi I flag the owner or the cook I see him here he cooks. He comes over I pick up the meat and pull on it and tell him. He looks at me said thanks for saying something and that's it walks away. I ate chow main and fried rice wich the chow main was the usual the fried rice taste like steamed white rice with no flavor. No one apologized or anything, so I guess I can cross this place off my possibilities for fast Chinese. I gave 2 stars 1 for clean this place is kept clean. Was looking for Chinese food close to Doheny state beach and this place popped up. I went with the 3 item combo which came out to $14.82 at the end. I got half fried rice and chow mein, orange chicken, beef and broccoli, and some wings. The wings were ok. The Mongolian beef was my favorite. I wasn't impressed by the chow mein but my friend who's picky when it comes to Chinese food really liked it. The orange chicken was perfect. Well... if you're in the mood for Americanized Chinese food, this place is probably the best one that I know! This beats Panda Express any day. The place is not big but has a decent amount of seating. They keep the tables clean which is a plus. The menu is very typical. You want 1, 2, or 3 items, they got you. We went with the 3 item for about $14 out the door at the time of review. We went with the Mongolian beef, string beans, and orange chicken. We choose fried rice instead of the noodles because the rice looked better. All the items were so delicious! All the right flavors. Not overly salty, but flavorful. It's so good. We got a fresh batch of orange chicken, so it was especially good! We consumed all of the food fast and I forgot to take a picture, but man, this place is where I'll go when I'm in the mood for Chinese fast food. Truly enjoyed Rice Bowl Express. Some friends picked up a meal and brought it to my home when I was recovering from a medical situation. I think it sped up my recovery as I was eager to experience the restaurant in person. Best honey walnut shrimp I have ever had. It will be fun to try it all, but shrimp will have to be a side to all else I order. Staff/Service was pleasant, helpful and kind. We stopped in on our drive from LA to San Diego as it was the closest Chinese food en route with great reviews, immediately upon entering we were warmly greeted by the owner who was absolutely delightful and kind to us! He let us taste a few things even though they were closing in 15 minutes. We ordered a little bit of everything and the food was absolutely delicious! We sat outside in hopes of not delaying the shop closing and the owner graciously brought us egg rolls as an appetizer after we sat down. He truly was an absolute gem, the food was delicious, and the ambiance was upbeat! The owner was kind enough to ask us what we thought (even as we were leaving 20 minutes after closing), and we told him what we will tell you: we will absolutely be back any time we are back in the area!! Sometimes you just really crave some fast food Chinese food. As I was searching for places in San Juan Capistrano, the Rice Bowl Express popped up on my search and I had to check it out. It's the standard counter service where you pick a number of items and make it a combo with rice or chow mein. They had a good amount of options to chose from but I saw the orange chicken come out fresh so I had to chose that as one of the options. Next I got the fried pork and went with some fried rice for the side option. They have seating inside and I like having my food fresh instead of taking it home all soggy. The food was just good. The pork was slightly underwhelming but again my expectations weren't very high for it. A good option for a quick bite. I would definitely recommend orange chicken as that was clearly the most ordered item so you can be assured that's made fresh and frequently. read more

Been here many times and the food is always abundant and cheap. We usually order a couple of 2-item entrees. My husband likes all chowmein and I like half chowmein and half white rice. (it makes me feel healthy, ha ha) Barbecue pork, orange chicken, teriyaki chicken, sweet and sour pork are all very tasty. I also have special ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp (pint or quart) which takes a little longer but so worth it. The trick is to not have them assemble your 2-item entrees until after the special order item is ready. Otherwise they will serve it and have it sit there. read more

Sweet cashier girl. She was so polite and patient with us. I noticed she used both hands to return my CC back to me which is a form of respect in most Asian cultures. I don't see this often anymore with the younger Asian American generation here so it was definitely refreshing. The place is small but had adequate tables for your dining-in option. It was empty when we arrived which kinda worried me especially during lunch hour. I seldom do Chinese Take-Out because the food just sits out for who knows how long. Unless the place is crackin' and poppin' with people going in and out or it's a busy buffet joint, I try to avoid if possible. One person in my party craved Orange Chicken and this place was within walking distance for us because we were already in the plaza. I did not regret coming here and I would probably come again if I'm in the area for some Orange Chicken and Eggdrop Soup. Orange Chicken had good flavor and most of the chicken pieces weren't as dry as I expected. I probably found two small pieces that were dry but the rest were fine. I prefer the Chow Mein (noodles) at Panda Express over the noodles here which had no flavor and the color and texture looked different from what I'm familiar with. Beef & Broccoli disappointed me a bit. I did not enjoy the beef at all but I did enjoy the broccoli. As a person who loves beef, the beef here did not taste right. Some of the pieces were way too chewy and lacked the distinct flavor I'm used to when ordering this particular entree. I thought this was strange since the broccoli had the right taste, how it's supposed to taste which indicates they've got the stir-fry sauce right. It's the beef that was the problem for me. Teriyaki Chicken was just okay for me. We had more dry burnt pieces but overall taste was pleasant. The sauce wasn't too heavy or sweet, although the chicken should have been more tender and juicy. The Pork Chops were the biggest disappointment of them all. Super dry and tough! I had to throw it all out as we had a hard time chewing on them. Super dry is an understatement. I felt like those pork chop pieces had been sitting there for days on end to be recycled over and over. I'm not saying that's what happened but those Pork Chops were definitely not fresh at all. Eggdrop soup was probably my favorite out of everything. It wasn't too thick and the flavor was perrrrfect, exactly how I like it. My only gripe was that the soup wasn't as hot as I expected it to be. Other than that, this simple soup is delicious and I would definitely come back just for that alone whenever I'm in a soupy mood. I'm going to give this place three stars and the benefit of doubt since I did enjoy a few entrees from here. Some reason today I was craving Chinese food. Most restaurants that serve Chinese food seem to have been closed on Mondays so I went to yelp located this place. I've seen it before in the strip mall that I shop in. So I decided to give it a try. The food was the best I have had since I moved from Louisiana to California the hot and sour soup was on point the Mongolian beef was so tender the orange chicken was delicious. The vegetables were cooked to perfection. I have to say I'm glad that I located this place. I will be back soon. If you were a fan of hot and sour soup, this is the place for you to go. Review: 8/28/2020 Covid-19 is still happening. MUST WEAR A MASK. Period. They do have hand sanitizer at the counter, 6ft apart labels on the floor and a shield at the cash register. Food is hot and fresh. Doesn't look over cook or stale. If the item isn't on the hot buffet area, the other dishes are made to order such as my honey walnut shrimp and fried cream cheese wontons. Finding a gem like this is a bit hard these days, some are closed due to the pandemic, and other are franchises. The mom and pop shop is where the food actually taste like how grand an used to make it. A homey feeling when you take a bite of the honey shrimp walnut, where it's not over power by the sauce. It's evening coating of the batter and with just the right amount of the sauce, doesn't taste soggy nor that horrible mayonnaise flavor. I also got two small soup, can't just pick one so I got two. Hot and sour soup and egg drop soup. Pretty decent. Three item plates. Consist of chow mien (I didn't want fried rice, server said it's okay for full chow mien) orange chicken, beef and broccoli and BBQ pork. Hefty portion. Doesn't skip out on the meats. Bang for the buck I would say. (I had leftover for dinner and breakfast) for the price of $9.95. Basically $10 for three meals because they actually give you a lot of food. Egg rolls were pretty good. Better than Panda Express, and the sweet and sour sauce makes a difference because it's not the package one. Would I come back? YOU BET YOUR INFINITY STONES I AM.
