Though it has been approximately two weeks since I dined at the Rice Factory, I wanted to share my experience with Yelp. The ambiance of the Rice Factory was beautiful, and I had a lovely candlelit dinner with my mother. The restaurant was empty on a Friday night. I ordered the Green Curry and and she ordered the Pad Thai. Both dishes were a little pricey. The service was an A, but not an A+. The portions of both entrees were very small--there might have been 14 pieces of chicken combined in the Green Curry and Pad Thai. The Green Curry sauce was flavorful, but I did not want to sip the sauce like a soup, but rather enjoy it as a meal. I did request that the extra sauce (& there was a lot of it!) be packed so that I could take it home. The Pad Thai was extremely bland. The chicken was a bit overcooked, and therefore, a bit dry. Even though we told our waiter that we were sharing both dishes, he did not bring out extra rice for the Green Curry. We did not request for extra rice, so therefore, it was not required of him to bring any, but it would have been appreciated. A beautiful ambiance with average thai food. Our favorites are the Massaman Royal Curry with any protein, (get this every time as one of the dinners). Would bump it to 5 stars but we still prefer N Thai's rice dishes more. I would say the food is ok. But it doesn't live up to the fancy updated decor. They did a nice job with the interior. But the foot was average. Pad Thai was a bit overpowering with the tomatoey flavor. The pineapple fried rice was ok - but I've seen it presented in other restaurants in a half pineapple shell; it just wasn't worth the premium price they charge. Tasty food with odd pricing. For those of you who don't know this is the location of the old factory...Tomato Factory. An Italian restaurant of yesteryear. Placed in the same strip mall as other E.B./Milltown heavyweights Fresco and Taco Bell; The Rice Factory is a nice new addition to the local food scene. However, I must admit to primarily coming here when my other Thai spot has a wait out the door. They offer 3 levels of heat and they always accommodate when I ask for level four. One time the guy said "But there's only three levels". I shot him a wink and said the magic words "Authentic Heat". "Ohhh. Are you sure?" At this point my wife jumps in and says "He's sure. Don't worry he won't complain or send it back if it's too spicy" Our Regular - Spring Rolls ($7 for 5) What can I really say? They're spring rolls. My regular order is Beef Red Curry ($14). At RF you'll receive a massive bowl of curry stacked with Beef, Eggplant, and various other veggies. There is easily enough food for two people to share and be full. Shamefully that means I eat the entire thing to myself. My wife's typical order is Vegetarian Drunken Noodles (Also $14?) I find it odd that a noodle dish is the same price as a meat entree. Typically noodle dish's range anywhere from $9 to $13 at 90+% of Thai restaurant's I've been to. I will say it's a massive amount of noodle though. My wife really enjoys the flavor as well as the minimal spice that they're able to apply to the food. She doesn't want it to be spicy, but would like to know that there are spices. That make sense? Given the portion sizes I recommend coming to RF with the intent of sharing several dish's among your group. I would try to stick with these large portion dish's as some of the other entree's like the Duck or Fish dish's are pretty pricey for the area and cuisine. The staff are always pleasant and quick to bring out an empty glass for BYOB items. (On a side note. The other night some dude came strolling in here with a handle of Tito's Vodka. Pleasant surprise and I don't know why it took me so long to try this place. We were going to grab a quick bite somewhere else local but that place was closed early so on a spur I figured I'd try the Rice Factory. When we went in I was pleasantly surprised by the nice decor & soft jazz. I also recognized the host from my previous favorite Thai place up in Piscataway but I don't work up that way anymore so it's been a while. Food was all freshly prepared. The sampler appetizer platter provides a nice selection and good portions. My wife had the curry chicken entree and I had a shrimp entree with vegetables of the monthly special menu. Went during lunch and was quickly seated. Nice setup in NJ and the lunch prices were fair. Each entree came with a choice of soup or salad. I had the drunken noodles with spice level #1 of 3. Let me tell you, this place kicks it up a notch in terms of spicy. I usually eat spicy food, but this actually gave a runny nose the entire time eating my noodles.....that's an indication of how spicy it was. My coworker ordered the green curry spice level #2 of 3 and he even noted that is was way too spicy. Upset after my friends at Easton Thai closed up shop, I tried out Rice Factory in search of my new go-to local spot. I ordered chicken Lad Na and Tom Kha Gai to-go and a side of sticky rice. The young lady and older gentleman who helped me were very sweet and made the ten minutes I waited in the lobby very enjoyable. I got their names but they escape me now! Will update next time I meet them. When I got home I was very pleased that they took the time and effort to make sure my take out experience was great by putting rice noodles and Lad na sauce in separate containers as not to ruin the noodles. Much appreciated! I actually have not had Lad na before but was pleased with the dish. I don't have anything to compare it to-a little sweeter than I'd like- but overall something I'd definitely order again. The noodles were great and I could tell they were freshly cooked! Also the chicken was freshly cooked which make the dish great. Sometimes restaurants take short-cuts to speed up the process but this dish was fresh and "aroi mak" (delicious in Thai!) Only "complaint" was the price. For take out I thought it was a little over priced but the experience of eating in restaurant would have surely made the price worth it! My husband and I are not unfamiliar with Thai food. I work in Manhattan and actually eat it quite often. We were excited to see a new restaurant open up locally that wasn't a pizzeria or a fast food chain. The perfect opportunity came last Friday, when I came home from an exhausting day at work and didn't feel like cooking. We ordered the Spring Rolls, Pad Thai, Beef Pad See Ew, and the Chicken in Red Curry for take-out. With no delays, my husband brought it home very quickly. The serving sizes seemed to be great, but when my husband first opened his Pad Thai, the noodle just looked really dry, a small pile of peanuts and a wedge of lime was mushed to the side, AND a huge wave of vinegar overwhelmed our dining room. He already knew it was going to be a disaster, but I asked him to just give it a chance, perhaps looks can be deceiving. Unfortunately, I was incorrect. It was so dry that it was difficult to take out of the container, and at first bite, my husband just spit it out. It was heavy on the vinegar, and as previous reviewers posted, it had little to no flavor. The spring rolls looked delicious, but how hard is it to mess up something fried? That was the next thing to go in the garbage. The rolls were like cardboard, barely any vegetables in the rolls, mostly fried skin and perhaps 2-3 shreds of cucumber and carrots, basically all we were tasting was the duck sauce. My daughter and son shared the Beef Pad See Ew, which has become my favorite overall when eating Thai food. Though the noodle was moist, the beef was like rubber and although better than the Pad Thai, had little flavor. At most, I'd say it was just edible. My Chicken Curry over rice was actually not as bad as the other two dishes. The curry was quite tasty with rice, and it had ample amount of vegetables and chicken. Had the dish just been Vegetable Curry, it would have been perfect. The chicken was so dry, that ultimately all I ate was the vegetables with the sauce over rice and what was left in the container was a pile of sliced chicken. The entrees are not cheap, they range from $13-$18 each depending on the type of meat you choose. We opened a great bottle of wine to pair with our meal, and it made it all the worse because what was supposed to be an enjoyable friday night dinner, turned out to be a slightly more expensive disaster. Overall, if yelp had the option for 0 stars, that's what we would have given it. Very disappointing. The restaurant seems to be crowded every day for the 2 months it's been open. It is probably unsuspecting customers, like us, who are trying it for the first time and realizing they will never come back.. ever.. The worst part of it is that it was my husband's entree that was completely awful, and he is ultimately the deciding factor of whether we go back or not to give it another shot. It was a definite no. This restaurant replaced The Tomato Factory a year ago. The decor is classy and ambiance comfortable. They play some soothing background music as well. The owners are very personable and polite. The menu is extensive. I only ate there this one time, so I didn't get a really good impression of the food. I usually order classics like Tom Kha Gai, green curry, or Pad Thai when evaluating a new Thai restaurant, but I started with the crab soup. It tasted very nice, but there was no crab in it, only sliced mushrooms. I also had one of the special entrées, which was stir-fried shrimp and diver and bay scallops over broccoli. It was presented beautifully, and cooked well. Not much heat, maybe I should have asked them to make it spicy. My wife had the spring rolls, and a batter-coated stir-fried chicken dish with cashews, also over broccoli. It was bland overall. The chicken strips were dry, and the batter a little raw on the inside on some of the pieces. This still seems like a nice place to eat, so I would give the menu another shot. read more

I ordered takeout last Friday night with high hopes given some of the previous reviews here, and have to say that I was not thrilled with my meal. When I placed my order, I was told a time estimate of 20 minutes for pick-up, but my food wasn't ready until a full 40 minutes after I placed my order, and 20 minutes of sitting in the lobby of the restaurant. The place was jam-packed and you couldn't even find a parking spot in the shopping center lot so at least the delay was explainable. I was given a complimentary Thai iced tea for the inconvenience, which was definitely appreciated, but with its unpleasant aftertaste, the drink was an unfortunate harbinger of what was to come. I ordered the veggie Thai spring rolls and pad see ew with shrimp, and both were terribly bland - like, not just not spicy (which shocked me, but like a previous commenter observed, there was literally no heat at all) but lacking in flavor overall. The shrimp were fresh and portions generous, at least. But I was comparing the food to the same dishes at my other local favorite spot - Aroma Thai Cuisine on Route 27 - and they didn't even come close. First time here since they have only been open for 1 week. Very good, fresh food and very nice atmosphere! Both me and the person I was with enjoyed our lunch specials. Came back into the Rice Factory this evening and as many times as I come here, I am never disappointed! The service is great, and the food is even better! In my dining party was a woman who had recently had surgery on her leg and they were so accommodating to the point of telling her if she needed to have her leg up, they would do everything to make sure she was comfortable.
