I've eaten here a couple times in the past but the pho and bun bo hue always left me feeling unsatisfied. I haven't eaten here in a while. However, I was craving shrimp summer rolls and decided to stop in because this is the only viet restaurant in the area. The shrimp summer rolls were very disappointing. The skin was very thick, it was mostly full of bland noodles, and overall not flavorful. The only veggies inside is lettuce. The shrimp is sliced in half so it's basically one piece of shrimp per roll. Feeling unsatisfied. Broth was on point - colorful, robust and delicious. Protein was plentiful, beef shank was thick and tender, but the wrong noodles were used. Instead of the usual thick round rice noodles, they used the thin vermicelli rice noodles, taking away from the traditional BBH texture and taste. No ham hocks and blood cubes but that is typical NJ. I've been wanting to try this place for a while because of the name of the place. We finally got a chance to try this place after work and were immediately seated after arriving. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is small, with tables made of white marble that seat up to 3-4 people. Canvases depicting Vietnamese street scenes also hang on the walls and the ordering counter can be seen in the back as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered #A2- 2 shrimp rolls. We had the choice of either fried or summer spring rolls and opted for the latter. We had them swap out the peanut sauce for the fish sauce due to peanut allergies. This was ok, no big deal. Hubs said that they took the shrimp and split it in half to make it look like they gave us 2 whole shrimps for each roll. Daughter ordered #S8-BBQ Pork Sandwich and added a fried egg for $2. She thought it was good and that it was flavorful and filling. She said that this was one of the best sandwiches that she's had. Hubs ordered #V9- Spicy beef noodles soup - bun bo hue. This was the biggest disappointment. The entree was missing the proteins. It's supposed to come with pork trotter and the blood pudding. It's missing the traditional add-ons such as mint leaves, bean sprouts, basil and jalapeño that accompanies Vietnamese soup entrees. The lime was also missing. I notice that Vietnamese restaurants these days don't serve what's supposed to be in Bun Bo Hue and substitute it with beef, instead. But, Hubs was also complaining that the beef was missing, as well. He said that the entree was uninspiring and it was the most expensive of the night. Lastly. I ordered #V6- Egg Rolls Vermicellis and got it with no peanut. I thought was ok. You can't go wrong with fried egg rolls and vermicelli. Service was quick. Eh..we were excited to try this place figuring the bread must be delicious - being named after the baguette and all. We LOVE the Bánh mì at Pho Da Nang, sadly they don't deliver to us. We were expecting this place to be better. The bread was good, but that was it. The meat was weird crunchy bits (sorry that's the only way to explain it) it was nothing like the delicious BBQ'ed thinly sliced meat we were used to. As well, the pickled vegetables that usually provide a nice crunch to the sandwich, were shredded rather than thinly sliced, so they were put on the soft bread in a wet pile with the pickling liquid, so that the bread was soaked, actually soaked right through the paper wrappers they were packed in. We ordered several sandwiches, and they all went in the garbage after a few bites. The Pho (we tried chicken, brisket and steak) offered plentiful amounts of sides with a side bag of bean sprouts, basil, lime, hot sauce etc. the bowls had a nice potion of noodles with very little bits of thinly sliced meat, and loads of onion.. the broths were the biggest disappointment, they were flavorless and looked like slightly colored water - so much so, that we couldn't tell the difference between the beef and chicken. Pho broth should be rich and unctuous, not look and taste like dish water. You should clearly be able to tell the difference between chicken stock and beef. I am so glad Pho & Baguette has filled the void of Vietnamese food in the East Brunswick area. I've only ordered take out from here via Grubhub- I love to treat myself on my weekdays off with good food within the comfort of my home. Each delivery has been so convenient. Definitely my favorite place to order from. The broth from their pho is packaged in a separate container from their noodles. They do provide a baggy with fresh bean sprouts and basil. The beef broth had good flavor, though it could have been more flavorful, and I would have preferred the pho served hotter; it arrived warm to moderately hot, which was a bit disappointing. I took my niece to Pho and Baguette for dinner after Urban Air, and the service was so quick and friendly! She ordered the mango passion fruit spritzer, which looked like a mango passion fruit puree with Sprite. We ordered the shrimp rolls for an appetizer and a regular shrimp pho (not on the menu officially but they were so nice and accommodating). I'm glad we only ordered regular because it was plenty of food for the two of us. I added some hoisin and sriracha to my broth as I always do with pho, and the broth was so flavorful. There were at least 6 pieces of large shrimp in the pho as well. The ambiance is meant more for takeout than eating in- the music was very low and it was quiet inside, with minimal decor. read more

Finally got to try this place after a friend had recommended their Banh mi. We called in for pick up and ordered a pork bbq banh mi and summer rolls for the husband and tried their bun bo hue for me. The banh mi was decent. The bread could be more crispier and fluffy and include a bit more filling. The bun bo hue was a hit for me. I've only tried this soup twice and the first time I had it at another Vietnamese spot I wasn't impressed. I felt like it could have been much better. After tasting this one, it definitely gave me the impression the soup was supposed to have. Rich in beef flavor with strong umami or savory taste to it. It had I think 2-3 types of meat which I think what made it really rich in flavor. Would definitely get that again. Oh the shrimp summer rolls were also great! I enjoyed the peanut sauce with it. Decent place to grab a quick bite if you happen to be in the area. The food is reliably ok. Never bad and sometimes pretty good. The pho broth was ok. Maybe the weak point of their pho. Meat can be pretty good especially the filet mignon pho. The lemongrass beef banh mi was very good. Prices are high here compared to other Vietnamese restaurants but the convenience factor may outweigh that since this is the only one in this area. The food here is good and I love that they have both pho and other hot dishes as well as banh mi. To start with, we ordered the shrimp roll (summer roll). It was a decent roll and we enjoyed it but it's pretty similar to other summer rolls we've tried. I ordered the lemongrass beef banh mi sandwich. It was delicious! I love the crusty baguette with a generous amount of flavorful lemongrass beef and pickled carrots and radishes. The pickled vegetables gave the sandwich a nice tangy flavor and crunch and adds a good contrast to the savory lemongrass beef. My only complaint is that the bread was a little too thick but otherwise, it was delicious! I'd order this again! Hubby ordered the rare beef pho. The broth was tasty and had good flavor. The prices are a little higher than other Vietnamese places we've been to but their food is on point and flavorful. A quick pit stop for two PH4 phos w/ brisket for dinner. Unfortunately the broth was too artificial-tasting, as I could immediately tell that they used quite a bit of those broth powders instead of using real broth. And pho's life is in the broth, so even though their noodles were well-cooked and their portion was decent, I can't give anything more than a 2-star. I'd skip this place for more authentic pho houses on route 1 and 27 if you care about authenticity in your food, but for a quick grab and go, this may be for you. I saw the sign for this place a few weeks ago while leaving Target. PHO & BAGUETTE - two of my favorites so it definitely piqued my interest. I was wondering when they were opening up because I am always looking for new restaurants to try out locally, especially Vietnamese food. Of course while leaving Target again yesterday, I saw that the lights were on so I called to confirm if they were open. The woman on the phone was very pleasant, helpful, and informative. She told me that they will have their grand opening on Saturday but they were open now for a soft opening. What we ordered: DRINKS - Vietnamese Iced Coffee/Ca Phe Sua Da: strong and delicious, made just right - Mango Passion Fruit Spritzer: very tasty, pretty sweet. *They actually gave the drinks for free as a promotion at the time, much appreciated* APPETIZER - Fried Chicken Wings/Canh ga chien: we ordered the fish sauce flavor. This accidentally came out after we got our mains. Unfortunately due to that reason, I did not get to take a picture of it. Nonetheless came out fresh and hot. We still enjoyed it. Looking forward to trying out their two other sauces (sweet chili and spicy mayo) ENTREE - Pho Combination/Pho Dac Biet: I am very picky with my pho and this place definitely nailed it for me. - Combination Vermicelli/Bun Dac Biet: ordered it with the pork, it was very tasty. I had a nice conversation with one of the owners. She was very sweet and attentive. She mentioned that they will be having their grand opening this Saturday 12/4/21. The mayor will be there for their ribbon cutting ceremony and they will have a DJ from 12PM to 3PM. I will be coming back to support them on a Saturday and look forward to having a new spot to bring my friends and family when they come visit me. Since it's in the Target plaza, it is very likely I will be back in the area LOL. I'm glad to have a great new Vietnamese spot close by and recommend this place to others. Pho & Baguette is a really great spot for traditional Viet food, considering there's not many options in this area. I've ordered from them a handful of times for both takeout and delivery and my experience overall has been good. I only had one poor experience with delivery where they forgot to include the Vietnamese Iced Coffee I ordered, and I was not refunded by the carrier for the missing item. LOCATION As for location, it's conveniently located in the shopping complex across from Target and to the left of Coldstone. FOOD They have a variety of traditional dishes, from pho, vermicelli, banh mi, rice dishes, and egg noodles. A few of my favorites included: * Vietnamese Egg Rolls - Highly recommend. The rolls, laid on a bed of lettuce, were perfectly crisp and had great flavor. * Combination Vermicelli with Pork - You can either choose beef or pork. This was delicious, I would highly recommend! * Vietnamese Iced Coffee - This was really good! The coffee was bold, strong and wasn't too sweet. One thing to note that it is pricier than other Vietnamese restaurants you'd find in Edison, but I think everything was well worth it. SERVICE Pick up service was a bit slow as we still had to wait a bit past the estimated pick up time (we ordered 45 minutes in advance). Upon entering, we were greeted by the only server, who was pretty much the jack of all trades, and was also the cashier, busboy, host, etc. He was friendly, though we did notice some frustrated diners who were trying to grab his attention, since he was doing everything from phone/takeout orders. It also seemed odd that the three tables who were all dine in customers all had to get up to get their own menus. I'm borderline between 3 and 4 on this one. On one side, I'm happy to see a new Vietnamese restaurant locally. On the other hand, well... I wish they could deliver better, and I hope they will improve. We ordered 3 banh mi's and 2 basic vermicelli dish (1 grilled chicken, 1 BBQ Pork). Almost 45 minutes later we arrived and 2 banh mis were still not done yet. I then saw the sign that they're understaffed due to a situation.... since March 1. Even though it's already 3 weeks after, it might still be understandable and I won't consider it for this scoring, but worth noting. While the dishes were still delectable, the meat in all the dishes including the banh mis were a bit dry. Had I known this I would've perhaps asked for the sweet & sour fish sauce dip to help lift it up. The vermicelli taste good albeit having similar issues. The price point was also a bit high for the quantity and quality of food, especially the banh mi at almost $10. We'd perhaps still give this another try next time though. We went here because of the reviews and they recently opened. The location on the gps shows it's across the street from where they actually located. They are located right across from target with plenty of parking. I do not know what all the hype was about this place. I've been to so many Vietnamese restaurants that were much better. I ordered the lemongrass beef vermicelli. First, the meat tasted very chewy like eating rubber. It was not sliced thin at all. My wife and son had the rice combo and they said the rice was dry like the Sahara desert. They also forgot to put in cucumbers in the rice and missing pickled carrots and daikon. What Vietnamese rice combo does not have those ingredients? Also, my vermicelli was missing the pickled carrots and daikon too. That is the staple of many of the Vietnamese dishes! It's also listed on their Menu! Why do I need to ask for it? Second, they put hot chili pepper in the fish sauce for you already. What if people don't eat chili sauce? I don't mind the chili sauce, but I prefer putting it myself. Lastly, we checked in using the Yelp app and it says 10% off. We were told by the server that and the owner will not honor the discount. He said he could not take off the discount because he was told not to. I don't think you should penalize the customer for this because it's false advertising. I think owner should take it up with Yelp. If you go on Yelp it does not say anything about grub hub or Uber eats only coupon so the response from the BM below is not accurate. Needless to say I will not be back to this place. Like other people said on their reviews here, their food prices are very high and definitely overpriced. I don't mind paying for quality food, but this is not the place I would pay. There are many other choices that you can go to. I question the good reviews that people left here. Maybe their standards were were not high when they wrote the review. This place does not have my vote at all. If you want good Vietnamese food try somewhere else is my advice. Sorry if I offended the restaurant, but I'm stating my experience with them. BTW, I am Vietnamese so I would know about the Vietnamese food more than the average person. It still had the aroma of beef pho which was nice. Definitely didn't lack in meat for either so I don't know what the other reviews were referring to. And lots of bean sprouts which are my favorite. The hoisin sauce container was a little grimey, which was a bit of a turn off. And the pho was salty, as another reviewer mentioned.
