Decided to give this place a second shot after having a less than impressive first meal. Second time was NOT a charm! I had Drunken Fried Rice with three shrimp and three small pieces of chicken. The rice was clumpy and not super tasty. The best part was the fresh basil which was a refreshing surprise for my palette given it's the middle of winter. The hubs had Pad Thai because, well we try it at all new Thai places. It was very spicy and a medium, which was the only redeeming factor. It was dry and lacking in chicken as well the spring rolls were fried to a crisp, and not in a good way...too hard to eat. They also lacked in veggies inside. Just a few pieces of cabbage. We ordered chicken curry puffs as well which were a glorified pillsbury puff with a tiny plop of some weird brown meat in the center. We didn't eat those either. I really liked this place. When we were seated the waitress gave us a vegetarian menu which is separate from the regular menu. It made picking so much easier. So from a vegetarians perspective that's a nice thing to do. We ordered the basil rolls,papaya salad, and the tom soup. The soup is nothing special but I fell in love with the papaya salad. Sounds strange but tastes great. For main dishes we got red curry with mock duck and the drunken noodles. Both of which were great. I love mock duck and you can't go wrong with the drunken noodles. We just got back from this restaurant and the service was horrible to say the least. The only reason I gave 2 stars was because the food was really good. We were seated immediately after arriving and waited at the table for at least 10 minutes without any acknowledgement from anyone or service. A waitress finally came over after she saw me looking around for someone and directly asked what we wanted to order. No hello, greeting or asking if we wanted something to drink - straight to ordering. The attitude of our waitress for the remainder of our time was equally as bad. This was our first time at this restaurant and we won't be going back. The waitress made us feel like she didn't want us there. I've been to Rice Factory 5 or 6 times since it opened. The food is always good and service is friendly. Service can get slow during peak dining hours on Friday and Saturday. The flavors in the dishes are well balanced and can be made spicy at your request like I prefer. My biggest gripe is the portion sizes. I'm by no means a "big" eater but I find myself splitting an extra entree with someone else I'm dining with to be content after dinner. At first glance, the prices seem very fair, but when you see the portion size it's actually a little pricey for what your getting. So glad Rice Factory came to Milltown and appears to be here to stay. For even a decent Pad Thai, we used to travel to Somerset which was a huge pain. The owners here are absolutely delightful people - always greeting with a smile and they often remember repeat customers. The food here is really fantastic. The Thai standards here are done exceptionally well. Our favorites are the noodle dishes including the Pad Thai, Drunken Noodle - and some standouts are the calamari and the mushroom crab soup. So good that my mouth is salivating as I write. The lunch menu is less expensive but limited and the portions are great - if you're coming for dinner, you will absolutely spend more. The ambience is so clean and modern - no typical tacky golden statues and weird frilly tapestries hanging on the walls here! Instead, water fountains, an open bi-level floor plan with tables and booths, and a truly lovely staff -- you'll feel like family. Food is decent, I'll give them that. But be very careful of hidden, up charges that should never happen. The waitress recommends these so called Add On's to a meal and then charges such an enormous amount of money, its hard to swallow. This happens ALOT and we chatted both times with other tables who were experiencing the same issue. Example below if your interested. + I ordered the a stir fry dish and prior to ordering I asked if the mixed veggies in the dish had broccoli in it. The waitress said Yes of course there is broccoli. The dish came without broccoli. She took it back saying "Sorry it always has broccoli and I'll add it." My next trip there, I ordered the same dish with no mention of broccoli and was charged an extra 6 bucks. When I asked if them what the 6 bucks was for , they just said for a broccoli pieces added to a dish. I asked for a refund me since I was not aware of the very high up charge and she refused and walked away and would not return to the restaurant. Great Thai food from the classics like Pad Thai to the more unusual. They recently added some clean eating options like grilled shrimp or chicken and steamed veggies (+ or - the delicious sticky rice) I love their Tom Yum Soup but if you like it spicier just ask them. I have been coming here for about a year now with my boyfriend and this is the only Thai restaurant we go to now. The food is the best I've ever had, the atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable, the food comes out faster than I experienced in any restaurant, and the staff treat us with warmth and respects our personal space and they always remember us when we come in, which is very often. The tea options are excellent and they pay attention to small details such as using real flowers for their centerpieces. The entrees and desserts are delicious but I only wish the appetizers were just as good. read more

Extremely racist staff and discriminatory. When we walked in they refused to seat us where we asked, and the moment a white man walked in they gave him that seat. Furthermore, they refused to serve us for the hours that we waited and heard the lady go back and make a racist comment based on the clothing we were dressed in. Average food, poor service. Chicken curry puff was on the sweet side - wouldn't order again. Same with the hot and sour shrimp soup (would actually have enjoyed it if it hadn't been sweet). Chicken dumplings were under seasoned and chewy. However the main course salvaged the meal - we liked the crabmeat fried rice (though there was just a little sprinkling of crabmeat) and stir fried chicken with basil leaves and chili peppers. Service was inattentive and slow. Upon trying to order dessert (grand mariner chocolate soufflé) were incredulously asked by our unsmiling, tardy waiter, "you want more food?!" - clearly a failed joke, but one expects more seasoned wait staff at a high end restaurant, surely? I resolutely nodded yes, and was told it would take 25 mins. So we dropped the plan. Also waited a while for our check and ultimately walked to the door to pay it. Went here on a date with my husband. I was excited to check this place out because I am a huge fan of Thai food but weirdly there isn't much in the area. I was not disappointed, the food at rice factory is AWESOME. And I am quite picky about Thai actually. We got curry puffs for an appetizer, they were not the same style as I'm used to in thai restaurants but they were clearly made on site and not from a box which I really appreciated and my husband and I agreed they were delicious. My husband got the green squid curry, it was maybe the best curry dish I've ever had in a thai restaurant. The portion was extremely generous and the squid was cooked perfectly which isn't easy. So I've been here once about 3 years ago and recently went back for mother's day. Now being full vegans it was interesting to revisit. There were a few vegan options but not that many, one was the mock duck which my wife had, the other was the Pad Thai with tofu and no egg. There were a few other options on the menu as well. I will say the food was had was good and the non vegans we went with said the pineapple shrimp was the best they ever had. So why am I giving this 2 stars and not 4 or 5? Simple... I really wanted a Thai Iced Tea with my meal but asked if they could give me coconut milk in it instead of dairy milk. The waitress said no so I asked her "you do have coconut milk, right?" She said yes. I asked "so you can't give me that instead of dairy?", she said no, be we have evaporated milk (also dairy). Why she or the management refused that option is beyond me, if they had another non dairy option I would have taken it but they did not. I didn't let it spoil my day or time out with mom however I would never go back as a result so they lost 4 future customers, managed a 2 star instead of 5 star review here and I would not recommend to friends. I hope the management reads yelp reviews, this was a true how it went down honest description of our experience. I came her based on a rec from my sister. I got takeout of drunken noodles and Tom yum soup. The soup was mediocre, there was no spice to it like Tom yum should have and mainly was liquid and barely any veggies. The noodles were pretty bland as well, def lacked flavor and spice imo. Food was OK, overall American style of Thai food very sweet taste. Tea only per serving one cup with one pot for an order can not be share but nothing special about their tea and it cost 3bucks. Sure the prices are slightly higher than other Asian style restaurants but the quality of the food is so superior that it makes it worth every penny. When the restaurant was under construction my wife and I stopped in to meet the owners. We explained that we enjoy Thai food, had been to Bangkok, and wished them good luck. On our first visit soon after Rice Factory opened we found the owners to be very friendly and accommodating and the food excellent. However, since that time the food has gotten better and better. It has gone from excellent to spectacular to top shelf gourmet. Rice Factory, in our opinion, is as good or better than the finest Thai restaurants in the world, including Bangkok. We are even able to order dishes that are not on the menu. One in particular is Tom Yum Talay, our favorite Thai soup. Finally, Rice Factory's prices are reasonable, especially in light of the quality. We give it a rating of FIVE STARS. Try it. If you like Thai food, you will love Rice Factory. Marty J. read more

Food and Service was very good. I took my 2 teenage boys for dinner on Friday night. Soup and appetizers were very good. We ordered 3 dishes. Salmon with curry and green coconut sauce. My picky son ate this completely. 2 of us shared the Wild Boar Stir fry, (awesome) and the Crispy Duck. The duck was good, but a bit dry. When I worked near Milltown a few months ago I used to come here with a few co-workers for lunch - while I enjoyed the food, it was mainly because of it's proximity to my office. The owners are extremely pleasant and it was a delight to have them wait on us almost every time I we visited the place. Recommend food: -Mushroom soup (it's unlike any mushroom soup I've ever had) and the carrot soup...both not on the menu and most likely an off-the-menu dish. Very savory and delicious. -Thai basil rolls, tom ka soup, chicken curry puff, grilled lemongrass chicken, duck curry and the pad gra pao. I've had a few other items on the menu, but the above are the ones I highly recommend. For a lunch special, the portions seem fine, THOUGH they can be a little more generous with amount of soup they give. I no longer go here as now I work much closer to home, but if I were to go back to that area, I'd revisit Rice Factory again. This is a Thai fusion place, so yes, it's a bit Americanized. While I prefer more ethnic cuisines, I still enjoy this place. read more

My sisters, brothers and I all got together for dinner here this past Sunday night and we were all pleasantly surprised. I wish I had something bad to say. Maybe the worst thing was the server was over attentive lol. Some people don't like that. It's a BYOB which makes it slightly less expensive to eat there. If you forget there's a liquor store conveniently located next door. There were 8 of us and we shared 3 appetizers (portions are small which is good for an appetizer) and we each had an entree. The sweet and spicy Thai wings were AMAZING. It was my favorite part :) We all wound up string food because everything was so great. The drunken noodles I would advise ordering with a little bit of heat added to them. They were good but I needed a little bite. The Lad Na was so tasty. I would just eat the gravy/broth on its own. The pad Thai was good as well as Honey Glazed chicken with Macadamia Nuts. I wish someone would've ordered the curry because it smelt great walking by. Guess I will have to on my next visit. Went to the Rice Factory a couple of days back for the first time. Was extremely impressed with this place. The service was amazing and the food delicious. The ambience at the restaurant is amazing.
