I've eaten here a few times and it's one of the better Indian food court places out there. Parking is available if you want to give up an arm and a leg. The entrees come in a half-order (about $6) or full-order (about $8). You also get your choice of 2 vegetables, and a nice thin (almost too thin) crispy deep fried naan bread. There is a special dish available for each day of the week. For Monday it was Beef Vindaloo. WIth each order you also get your choice of vegetables. I had the chickpeas and they were pretty well done. One last amusing note - the knives here are curved in a very peculiar way, like a bent oh, never mind. Finger, yes.

I was here today - was shocked at the incredibly small portion sizes. So much so, that I asked the guy serving it - is that the normal size? I was asked if I wanted the 3 item or 5 items - 5 sounds too much, so I got the 3... I small ladle of mixed vegetables, lentils on a bit of rice - and a small scoop of potatoes. The food itself was ok - not great, and considering the ridiculous portion size. Nope. Wont be back.

If this place weren't already so popular (see photo), I would want to keep it a secret for myself. Since this isn't the case, I wanted to share the news of a cheap, filling, and delicious Indian food place downtown. Despite the long line up, you move through very quick! (10 minutes max). And the wait time is worth it. Just $5 for a filling dish of rice, three different vegetables (try the spicy potatoes, lentils, and chickpeas), as well as a side of papad. Unless you're really hungry, be sure to just order the half size. When you enter the lower level off Dunsmuir head left at your first turn and go left to the end.

It's a good sign when you always see a long line up at Rice n Spice. A good selection of flavourful food keeps this place interesting for those tired of the typical food court fare. I like to get there before the lunch crowd so I can enquire about the spiciness of the different items. It's a bit pricey to go for the full order (one meat and two sides, on rice = almost $10), but with a half order sellling for $7+, you kind of feel like a fool not to splurge. More importantly, you walk away full and satisfied, and that's all that matters.

    5 veggie combo. Not great

Good gluten-free options. Nothing fancy. Standard food court fare. Friendly staff.

I have been eating here for decades. The food is routinely great, especially their spicy dishes like chili chicken!

The portion are much smaller than they used to, but they give you lots of rice. What happened? Less chicken, left veggies but a lot of rice.

I would also describe the food as modern since there are some cool fusion dishes such as the mango burrata (I didn't end up ordering this but I wish I did!) Overall the food was very flavorful. I'm already thinking about my next bowl of biryani!

I want to start this review by giving a big shoutout to Pemba who was our server, he was so kind and took such good care of us and recommended really good items based on what we wanted. Everything I tried from here was 10/10! Some stand out items - :: Bombay pomfret fry - OH! The masala and coating on this was sooo good we were sucking on the bones till the very end. Such a great appetizer! :: Lasooni palak burrata - I was a little apprehensive about this at first because burrata and palak didn't seem like something I would want to try but I was wrong! This was one of my favourite dishes. It was such a delicious fusion item. For dessert, I would recommend getting their soan papdi malai khwaab and their malai ghewar. Not too sweet, just perfect. For drinks, aam pana with gin is the way to go. I really cannot wait to come back and order everything again!

However it is not focused and instead provides a little bit of the region for everyone (Nepal, China, India, Pakistani influences). Came in for lunch on a weekday. Quickly seated and tended to by the staff. Interior is more of a diner scene than nice cafe. Bathrooms are gender neutral and clean but not nice. Here's my three things: 1) I got a lunch special featuring fish peckora, and tandoor chicken. Good flavor but missed on the real spice flavors. Veg salad was sour and worked with the rest of the plate. 2) These folks can make some NAAN! The Naan stole the show. Sweet, salty and crisp. 3) Price wise you can fill up and have a drink for $25-30CAN.

We got the look as if we were sure we were in the right place not in a bad way but as if we were sure that was what we wanted. Every time we have visited there was no wait to get seated in fact the place is almost empty. Just a few people at a time. They are very friendly and feels like family vibes and I love that. Like mom is in the kitchen. Dad got the front door and the boys are bringing in the produce from outside. Service is great and the family is very humble and proud as they should be. Food comes out pretty quick and you can always get a drink to keep you comfortable. I got a glass of Malbec my favorite. Two people two dishes we were reminded that it is a lot of food and would be satisfied. Thankfully! Wife loves butter chicken and I love korma but got the saag my second runner up. Garlic naan and rice... we were full! End of the meal my man tells us they just finished making dessert and brought us some great bread pudding. Unexpected but they did not charge us for it and seemed very gracious for us dropping in. I would also love to see more businesses like this! I hope they thrive in 2026 and continue to do so.
