I called to have a diagnostic come out to fix my broken heater. Ryan, the technician, came out. A text was sent when he was on his way and he was very punctual. He was polite and provided great insight on it. I was impressed by his professionalism. He was able to troubleshoot the issue and provide us with an estimate/quote during the trip. I also like that the technician was very straightforward and honest, which made me feel more comfortable about what is going on. I did not feel like he upsold anything which is nice. However, there was a misunderstanding with couple items but the company resolved it quickly when I called back. Overall, I was impressed with their professionalism. read more

Beware that this business will charge you a 3.99% surcharge "service fee" on all credit card transactions, including debit cards. They failed to tell me this verbally, before my debit card was run. My biggest mistake was to pay the $3K repair bill before I even received the invoice, my bad! (I had trusted this business and was trying to save time.) After the employee had run the transaction, I asked for a copy of my invoice and receipt. She said that since she didn't have my email, so she hadn't sent me the invoice which states in fine print at the bottom of the page, info about the "3.99% surcharge on credit card transactions". I reviewed the receipt/invoice and called back immediately to stop the transaction as I could save myself $118.74 if I paid with a check. I also clarified that I paid with a debit card, not a credit card. The employee responded that they closed at 4: pm and she would leave a message with accounting for the next day. The next morning, I called and she said that the accounting department had already run the charge, but that she let the management know that I was requesting a refund of their "$118.74 service fee" and would keep me posted. A while later she called me back to say that there would be no refund. She also apologized that she had not let me know about the 3.99% surcharge verbally before running the debit card transaction. Overall, she was very pleasant and tried to give good customer service. However, 1)-not verbally informing a customer who has not yet seen an invoice is deceptive; 2)-not specifying that debit card payments also incur the 3.99% surcharge is deceptive. When it comes to the payment details, Richard's management policies do not provide good customer service. And, ouch, that was an expensive lesson! read more

Our experience with this company was less than satisfactory. When our 12-year-old undersized A/C unit failed, we chose to replace it with a new heat pump and air handler. Scheduling with Richard's was easy, and the technician was friendly, punctual, and helpful during the initial visit. However, the quote process was disappointing. We received only a single option without any alternatives or discussion about what might best fit our needs. There was no consultative selling or questions to understand our preferences. More troubling, the quote did not include the brand or model number of the heat pump, which is important given the price and quality differences between units. I had to ask for this information, and although I got a brief email reply, it was not included in the official quote -- and email replies aren't legally binding. I also inquired about legally required permitting and HERS testing, only to be told that would add $850 to the price. While I understand many choose to forego permitting and testing, if I was not aware of the legal requirement I would not have known the installation would not be in compliance with local law as this topic was never discussed. In contrast, another company I contacted offered multiple highly-detailed options, answered all my questions politely, and confirmed that permitting and HERS testing were already included in their pricing. While others have had positive experiences with this company, I recommend asking detailed questions upfront to avoid surprises and ensure transparency. read more

So our previous experiences with Richards had been phenomenal. They were able to do quick emergency assessments and repairs at reasonable rates. We then requested a quote for a complete HVAC replacement. Over a period of several months it took four tries and we still have not had a successful quote they were scheduled to come out to get additional information last week and rescheduled last minute. The reschedule date they never showed or communicated. My husband took half days off both days so this is highly disappointing. They are neither helpful, nor trustworthy. Please find another company to avoid headaches and rude treatment. They called to cancel our appointment after the scheduled time had passed. They changed their mind at the last minute and refused to do the repair, since someone else had done a nitrogen leak search before, leaving us in a difficult situation. We waited 4 days for this appointment. The initial fee was supposed to be applied to the repair, but they also refused to refund it. Note: The tech wouldn't have been able to diagnose the issue if I hadn't insisted and asked him to check refrigerant levels. Some resolution suggestions you could had done/offered but you didn't: * Do not wait for 4 days to call back, do not do a no-show. * You knew the situation, accepted it, and made us wait for 4 days during the heatwave before canceling. This is not acceptable. * Show up and check the system, then decide if you'd move forward since you already cost us time. * You said it was safe to wait for 4 days with nitrogen and now are talking about liability? You didn't even explain what kind of liability. * Refund part of our initial fee since it was supposed to count toward the repair. * What are we going to do now then, if all companies say the same thing? Lisa, the office manager, quoted us a two day service to change out our functional AC and heaters. After five days of working on this project, it still is not completed. We are now told there is two more days involved in this process. Lack of transparency through the company. The contract also states 100% paid at the end of completion. The work is not finished therefore 75% was given to Richards. We just received a certified letter stating there is an attempt to put a lien against our house if the rest is not paid. We NEVER had any intentions of not paying, we just want the job completed. It's July and my AC stopped working. I called and was able to get an appointment the next day. I received a text when the tech was on his way along with a photo of him and his name. Al was extremely polite and professional. He did a thorough job of fixing the problem (new capacitor) and also made recommendations to keep it running that I could do on my own (ie change filter). He did an excellent job communicating what he was doing as he went along, as well as summarizing all his recommendations at the end. Awful experience with this company. Asked for repair and replace options from them. The tech arrived late and rushed my wife ..we are his last stop. Called me asking me where the breaker switch is for the AC UNIT. What ever he did he shorted out half the house plugs and ceiling fans on a 100 plus day. Told my wife he cannot repair the ac and can I get paid now I have a 2 hour commute. Poor service never gave a quote to repair or replace and left us with zero ceiling fans for 4 hours till I could get the breaker replaced. I purchased a new system from ARTS. read more

Highly recommend - honest and competent HVAC repair! We called Richard's Heating & Air Repair after 2 other companies. One of these companies actually caused our issue (Barker Heating and Cooling) and the other company only seemed interested in selling us a new unit (Miller's Air Conditioning and Heating) - see separate reviews about both these other companies (do not use them!). Pete, the repair tech, quickly found that the service disconnect needed to be replaced (loose, corroded and did not have a good connection). We actually noticed this when our AC first stopped working but Miller's never mentioned it. Pete also quickly diagnosed that all our issues could be from Barker adding too much freon. He started at the beginning and diagnosed the issues in a way that made sense (we had no issue with the AC unit, had our summer pre-season maintenance performed by Barker, they added freon and changed the capacitor, then we started having issues with our AC failing as soon as the temperature outside was high 90+ degrees). Pete removed "a lot" of freon and so far our AC is working again (if this post is not edited, assume it's still working). We are so grateful for an honest, competent HVAC repair company before we spent any more money on a problem Barker caused and Miller's failed to diagnose. I called Richard's Heating and Air Conditioning to get an appointment to have my air conditioning repaired. One of my two systems, the upstairs unit, was not functioning and the other system, the downstairs unit, was not functioning well. The appointment was confirmed by text message for Friday, August 3 at 9:00am. At 10:00am on Friday , I called and talked to Carmen who stated the text was incorrectly sent and the appointment was scheduled for Monday, August 5 at 9:00am. Al from Richard'sshowed up on Monday and went out to the outside Air Conditioning Condenser for the upstairs unit and found evidence of an oil leak in the service valve and concluded this was the problem. He then hooked up gauges and confirmed the system had no pressure and therefore no refrigerant in it and proceeded to inform me the R-22 refrigerant was "liquid gold" and priced at $350/lb and that my system would take 7 lbs. I did a quick internet search and found that at 10 lb container of R-22 refrigerant can be purchased for $299 reflecting a greater than 1000% profit. Al never performed a pressurized leak test on my system but had already concluded that the valve with oil residue would need to be replaced for an unknown cost and the refrigerant would cost an additional $2450. He also performed a system pressure test on my second system which takes R10a refrigerant and concluded the refrigerant was low and would take up 3 lbs of the refrigerant to repair and he suggested a $200 leak sealant be added to attempt to seal any existing leaks. He stated Richard's would be sending a quote for the repair of the systems but it would take time to research and locate the required valve replacement. After three days, I had not receive the quotes so I called Richard's to determine when I would receive these repair quotes and Carmen indicated that Richard's had an invalid email on file which had caused the delay. With my email address corrected, I received a quote but for only the downstairs system that was partially working include a cost for 1-3 lbs refrigerant. I called Carmen back and stated that I had received the quote for for the downstairs system but not received the quote for the repair of the non-functioning upstairs system. She stated she would send a quote later that day except the quote was for replacement of the upstairs air conditioning system with a new R10a system, not for repair of the existing R-22 system at a cost of $8,537, 67. I replied to the email with the replacement quote requesting the promised quote for repair of the existing upstairs system and followed up the following day phone call to Carmen who acknowledged the notes from Al indicated that a quote for repair of the original upstairs system was requested. Needless to say, I am underwhelmed by my experience with Richard's Heating and Air Conditioning and after 10 days, have not received a quote for the repair of my air conditioning system. Lucky for me the the highest temperature in this period has only been 97 degrees. read more
