This place was highly recommend by several people so I had to check it out. My first impression was that the restaurant was way too dark inside. I had to use my phone flashlight to actually read the menu. I suggest sitting on the porch if at all possible. You'll be able to see better. I ordered the New Mexico enchiladas and they were fantastic. I got a beef, pork, and chicken. I have to say out of the 3 the chicken was the best. Everything about Richardson's is worth the drive if you're coming from afar, and worth the price if you're questioning dropping a dime or two. As an honorary 'burquena (lived for 7 years in Albuquerque and came to love green chile like I'd been breastfed it as the New Mexicans are, lol), I can testify that their New Mexican food is legit New Mexican - so much so that when they ask you what kind of chile you want, they offer 'Christmas' (prior to my time in NM I'd never heard of that as a thing.) Not in the mood for southwestern? No worries - their steaks are among the best I've tasted (unfortunately the price point matches lol- so if you're coming for a good steak be prepared to pay the $ for it. But in my opinion it's worth it), their lamb is on point, and their seafood specials have yet to fail to live up to a fine seafood/steakhouse's. You can get the delicious flavor of a high-end restaurant like Maestro's in a chill atmosphere where you don't have to dress to the nines, can enjoy a fire in the background, and chat it up with a very friendly waitstaff. Additionally, they are extraordinarily accommodating; don't want rice with your meal? No worries, they say- want acorn squash or extra beans instead? We got ya. Finally, and this is the biggest deal in my opinion, they have a way of making one feel comfortable. Could it be the soft cushions on the bench, the toasty fireplace, low key lighting, or the genuine, un-rushed vibe their staff give off? I think all of it. If you have a chance, give it one. And ask them to put the La Cumbre Malpais Stout back on tap because it's the best beer ever made, they appear to be the only place in AZ that carries it, and I am concerned about what will happen when they run out of it downstairs. You can't get much better then this. Now this is not only Mexican'ish food but more Southwest or New Mexican style food. We started off with the Bacon Wrapped Gulf Shrimp. Ouch, where do I start? I should have known better when I realized they only had valet. Our dear friends recommended this place and were meeting us there, that is the only reason we stayed. We asked for self parking and they said to park at Runner's Den.... now I am wondering if they have an agreement with them or if they send people there just because. We sat and were welcomed by "Absolutely no split plates" and "no separate checks" notes on our menus. : ) Friendly business, uh? Our server was pushing for appetizers (asked multiple times before and after our friends arrived), but once we were ready to order she was nowhere to be seen for a while. We also asked for straws and she gave them to us grabbing them from the top where your lips are supposed to go! I think that was by far the worse. Other than that she was OK and friendly. I do not know anything about New Mexico food but I do not have respect for places that spell adovada with a 'v', and that do not peel the green chiles : o Over all I thought the place was kind of 'uppity' for my taste (I am a very very simple gal), and I would at least have expected them to have options for artificial sweeteners, but they (oh surprise) only had the pink saccharine ones. OK, enough bickering : ) The food was good, the portions (other than the adovada) were generous and everyone agreed they were tasty. I think one of our friends had the New Mexico plate and it was huge. I am OK with the food, but for the prices they have I would expect excellent customer service and Stevia, Splenda or at least Nutrasweet. I am on a special diet but was even afraid to ask, lol... So me and a lady friend stopped here for a night out a month back. We arrived, there seemed to be no self parking or maybe I'm just not aware of it. Because it was just valet at the front. So i of course had to valet it. Which to me is odd. I'm not a huge fan of a valet service. I'm a big boy, I'll park my own fucking vehicle, FOR FREE. But whatev's. I tried to bypass that. We entered and found a both near the bar. The food is a mix/hybrid/fusion of mexican-new mexican food. I forgot what I had at the time. But I remember it being REALLY REALLY good. We also shared a great bottle of red wine that our server recommended to us. The service was awesome, the food was amazing. A bit pricy, but like i've said before. You get what you pay for. This isn't your cheap Mexican food joint around the corner, but it's also not your haute Spanish fusion fine dining. What you get is a relaxed and unpretentious environment, large portions and good food. Had dinner here with my wife and some friends. It's a good sized space inside, though there can be a wait during peak times. But they have a nice covered patio bar area where you can wait and grab a drink. The portions are huge. My wife and I shared the Carne Adovada and Chimayo Chicken, and probably had a full serving left over to take home. The Carne Adovada has a little kick to it with the red chili sauce, but the smoked pork is succulent and delicious. My wife thought the Chimayo Chicken was a bit too heavy for her liking, but I thought it was delicious. I'm looking forward to the leftovers :-) read more

Hubs and I didn't have a reservation like we needed to get a good table. Our fault. So we ended up at the bar, and we were lucky to get those seats; this place fills up fast. This place is definitely worth a try. My family and I came here for a nice hearty brunch and we were not disappointed. All the dishes we tried were so flavorful. I tried the enchiladas: tried one cheese and one green chile pork. The green chile pork was my favorite. My husband had the carne adovada benedict. I will definitely order that next time. The meat was so tender and had a great smokiness to the red chile. The only downside to the meal was that all over our eggs were over cooked. I didn't send the eggs back but my father did and they were happy to give him eggs cooked to his liking. Overall, we were happy with our experience at Richardson's. This was my first time here and I couldn't say enough great stuff! The reputation of Richardson's had my expectations set high and I was not let down! I thought that $15 was a bit expensive for a scallop appetizer but once it hit the table I was very happy, each scallop was plump and cooked perfectly. With rice, beans and four different sauces to pick from it was perfect to split. We had two entrees, the Garlic Shrimp and the New Mexico Surf and Turf. I really enjoyed the food I had here. I had the daily special - a fish trio, with different sauces and preparations. When I left, I was sad that I didn't live in Phoenix. I was also sad that I was with a bunch of my co-workers who, when they were complaining that the food was too spicy, would have looked at me funny for stealing the remainder of THEIR dinners. My family went to Richardson's for dinner and it was the WORST dining experience any of us has EVER HAD. I cannot believe that any good reviews of this restaurant are real. To start, the food was terrible. All the plates came out separately and my moms almost 15 minutes after everyone else's. Her meal had been over cooked for so long the food was burnt and stuck to the plate. The kitchen staff and our waiter had obviously forgotten about it. Our waiter had also forgotten to ring in appetizers on 2 separate occasions... the 2nd time the item never did make it to the table. When we told the waiter about my moms dinner he rolled his eyes and said "it's supposed to be hot" and then walked off while we were still talking to him. Next thing I know another staff member walks up and just starts clearing off everyone else's plate from the table without asking if anyone else was done...which we weren't. Then our waiter shows up again with the bill. DUDE... WHAT? 5 minutes later another guy comes up and asks: NOW are you done? I said no I wasn't and he responded --Well, I wasn't talking to YOU!! Needless to say everyone was beyond rude and has no business being in the customer service industry. We all agreed that the staff is on drugs. I am not joking around when I say that. Their behavior and mannerisms were not normal. Oh and we all got the shits from the little food that we did eat. Having the runs while being hungry is the worst. read more

This used to be my favorite restaurant when they were still located on Bethany Home. Now, it's awful. We have tried it 3 times in the past 3 months and the food is consistently unappetizing or downright gross. What is the absolute worst though is the waitstaff. Our waiter was so rude last time and so many things were wrong with our order that we asked to speak to the manager. The waiter was rude, condescending, unhelpful, and argumentative. The osso bucco came out so salty it was inedible. 4 dishes came out with the wrong sides. One side dish order never arrived. The steak was undercooked. When 3 plates came out, a full hour and 15 minutes after we ordered, one person in our party was informed that they were out of osso busso and he had to order something else. This was AFTER all the rest of the food came out to the table! . During our chat with the MOD, which was lovely since he was a nice and kind person and we weren't looking to receive a freebie, just to alert him to the many issues we had with our waiter, the waiter actually butted in and started arguing and yelling at us. Another waitress came over, not even knowing what was going on, and started pointing her finger in my face, yelling "he provides great service!!" and patting the waiter on back saying "F them, you don't have to listen to this", right in front of us ! The MOD was mortified and fell all over himself apologizing but said he wished he could do something but had no options because "the wait staff and kitchen think they run the restaurant and the owners let them". If you're looking for a dining experience where you have to wait over an hour for your food, to be told it's not available, have the stuff that is available come out overcooked and oversalted, and get a good dose of condescension and a free verbal attack with your meal, come here. Food is 5 Star stuff Service was AWEFUL! From the moment we sat down, our server, an older blonde lady, was rude, passive aggressive and truly toxic. Carne Adovada was amazing! Margaritas were solid but overpriced. It is a total shame when a server ruins an entire evening. $375.00 check for 8 people. I asked a friend who used to live in the area what is the one place I have to go and try to experience something totally on like I can get back home, and he referred me here. He also highly recommended a dish which was the green chile stew. OMG! Absolutely phenomenal experience so unlike anything I have tried before. More than just Southwestern cuisine, this spot offers prime steaks and seafood as well as a great selection of New Mexico style offerings. While I was tempted to try the tacos tenderloin or New Mexican surf & turf, I sTuck with the original plan and had the stew which is an off menu hidden gem. This was absolutely not something that had been sitting around in a warmer all day. It must've taken 15 or 20 minutes to come out, and it's hard to get excited about stew, but this was the most incredibly flavorful stew I've ever had. There was not only depth of flair, but also heat from the various peppers they use that was just wonderful and not overbearing. I was suggested this place by a friend who recently had a date there. I made reservations for a Friday night and was very excited since she highly recommended it. I was happy to find that there was valet service considering parking was limited. We were not sat right away but I wasn't too worried about it. Our service was great. The server was not overwhelming and very informative. I am a steak guru and decided to order the surf and turf dish with steak. I ordered it rare and it was prepared perfectly. I was AMAZED on the quality of beef that was used. I'm very apprehensive to places that serve steak considering its basic USDA choice, not prime. However, I was pleasantly surprised and pleased. I love this place and have no been back, but plan to go back soon! I also REALLY liked the wood burning smell in the restaurant. Was definitely a welcoming smell. read more

Went last sat night. Walked out without eating. Walked in and all I saw were flies all over the place. They were on the tables, flying around the room, all over the place. The last straw was ordering a drink at the bar and there were flies all over the lemons, limes, olives. Went here with my husband and a friend for dinner. The ambiance is dark but nice. Our friend is from New Mexico and she said they do a very good job making authentic NM food; to me it was a little too salty. Perhaps that is the style of cooking there? The portion sizes are large so that does help to justify the high prices, however, I think in the Phoenix area there are more affordable places to try with food just as good or better. With that being said, I've only been here once and maybe the chef was just a little too "happy" with the salt that night... I'd try it again if I was in the area. For now, just 3/5. read more

The New Mexico platter was absolutely the epitome of New Mexican Cuisine. Our native New Mexican was impressed with the adovada entree. My chorizo pork chop was simply amazing.
