Drove past RIcky's a thousand times and finally decided to stop in after reading so many positive reviews. I'll keep it brief. It was chaotic, quite a few orders, lots of barking back and fourth between cashier and cook. I ordered a turkey and cheese sub. The total was $4.12 with tax. My expectations weren't high given the cost of the sub... Boy was I wrong. WAY wrong. This was a great sub, one of the best I've had in a while. The grill is seasoned and you can tell in the meat/veggies. You can't emulate that taste and it was worth well more than the price I paid. Great deals and even better food! read more

Well I work about 2 miles from this place never knew it was there Mick M. told me too try it so all day long I had Phillie Steak in my head. couldn't wait to try it Ricky's is the type of place you go to for the food. Ricky loves to make his subs for you. I bought a half size portion and they cut it in half for me again. The portions here are huge, but they do not compromise on quality. I saw the owner on the grill and you can tell the meat was sliced fresh and not frozen. Typically frozen meat is a pale pink, as the slices of steak that I saw were a bright red with some marbling. The sesame seed rolls are hard on the outside, but soft on the inside. I tore the roof of my mouth a little while eating, but who cares the rolls are awesome and they hold up well and do not get soggy. while the owner is grilling the meat, he leaves the the rolls on the griddle so they are slightly toasted, which made the sandwich that much better You could tell the veggies were cut that day, fresh and crisp. I ordered a whole philly with everything on it with a bag of Rays chips. It's enough for two, but I couldn't help it, I ate it all on my own. For the record, I ate the whole thing and I probably wont be eating anything else for the rest of today and probably half of tomorrow. For normal eaters, I would recommend sharing a whole and a bag of chips (the Ray's chips are brontosaurus size, there are 5 servings per bag according to the label). It'll cost you $10-$12 TOTAL depending if both of you get a pop. I typically don't write reviews, but I had to give this place some praise. It's hard to find good sub places that have quality food with reasonable prices, and Rick's is one of those places. read more

RIcky's is hands down the BEST sub shop in Michigan. I always make sure to hit there whenever I am in that section of the city. If I lived closer I'd be eating there several times a week!! Really disappointed in this place. Portions are large, but it is getting dirty, and the food lacks flavor, the last 2 times has been served almost cold, and the service has been less than stellar. Also, I am beginning to question there food handling, sometimes no gloves, and I see them pick up "droppings" by hand without gloves and put them atop the sandwich before wrapping. Back when we worked in Dearborn, Ricky's was a staple of the office. It was just across Greenfield from the office complex, and we would have it at least once per week. I was partial to the Philly stak, or the seak and cheese with mushroom. They offer a tray of spices to let you steer the flavor of your sub however you like, but it was exceptionally good as it came. The owner is a very friendly and likable man who cares about the food he is serving, and that is reflected in the taste. When the office moved to FarmingtonHills, Ricky's was on the top of the list of places we missed. We all made sure that our last meal in the Dearborn office was our favorite sandwich from this little whole in the wall. Following the move we made many vain attempts to find a suitable replacement, but none of the local places compared. There were many mornings of lost productivity as we devised strategies on how to send someone out to pickup an order an run it back to the office, while keeping the subs as hot as possible. Finally!! When people toss around the words "Best Philly in Town", I gotta find out about it. Here we have Ricky's. I got the philly with mushrooms, onions, and peppers with everything except pickles. I purchased a pickle on the side (they come whole, not sliced and be sure to ask for an individually packaged one) and an order of fries. The service was super friendly, fast, and accurate. At first bite, my sandwich was amazing! I thought I finally could indeed end the quest for the best philly but after three bites, I'd had enough. The sandwich was good, just not the best. I won't even mention the fries. Bottom line is I would come back and it's better than most other philly spots. The atmosphere and the service create a complete experience and Ricky seems like a positive guy. read more
