Our favorite sushi spot in Portland! The extensive menu offers lots of vegan options (along with traditional rolls), the staff are friendly and accommodating, and the small food cart pod is cozy, shaded, and inviting. Highly recommend!

First time trying Ricky's Sushi and solidly enjoyed. I got the lobster burrito, super spider roll, heart attack appetizer, and salmon skin roll. Before we jump into the food, Ricky's Sushi is in a chill/ small 4 cart pod. It's fully shaded which is nice and shares the pod with NoPo's Sandwiches (bomb), a Thai place, and a pretty solid looking Mexican place. I ordered online and went to pick up. It was about 4:30pm on a Friday and there was a lot of foot traffic on the street but only 1 other group at the pod. I waited 5ish mins and they gave me complimentary miso soup. I waited a little for my food and then took it home. Now let's get into the food... Let's start with the LOBSTER BURRITO. First bite was "oh f- this is good" so we're off to a good start. It's what you'd expect from a sushi burrito but was surprised avocado was the only "green" in there so I added cucumber (and tempura flakes for funsies). Turned out the cucumber was definitely needed to cut through the rich surimi & lobster salad. You really mostly taste the surimi and shrimp tempura but the shredded lobster is seasoned and adds a nice little spice to it. It's pretty solid but truthfully you could probably get the cheaper Tempura Burrito to scratch the same itch. 3.5/5 Next I had the SUPER SPIDER ROLL. I'm a big fan of spider rolls, or really anything with soft shell crab. Once again I made a couple tweaks adding masago, green onion (a must on any roll imo), and house sauce. This was another one where immediately I was like "daaammn" everything together was working just right. With that being said, this roll is super creamy. It doesn't say on the menu but it has cream cheese in it. Cream cheese with the crab salad and my addition of the house sauce pushed it a little too far over the edge creaminess wise. It's also baked and those factors together really gave more of baked salmon roll vibe (but without the salmon). And then it hit me "...where is the soft shell crab?!" Idk what happened but there was no soft shell crab inside. Unless the crab salad ontop was supposed to be that- which would be weird? Idk but they kind of missed the mark there unfortunately. Next time I think I'll just order the basic soft shell crab roll. Still though, when considering it just a baked crab roll it was a 3.5/5. Next up was the SALMON SKIN ROLL. This might have been my bad but I expected it to be a maki but it's your regular American style roll. Like I said my bad, but I feel like it would be better as a maki. This one was the only real miss for me it just wasn't very appetizing in my opinion. Too much avocado and a minuscule serving of yamagobo. Maybe I just like salmon skin less than I thought? 1.5/5 for me personally. Last was the HEART ATTACK appetizer. By this time I'm getting pretty full and the Heart Attack was pretty rich. Tempura jalapeños stuffed with creamy cheese, spicy tuna, and unagi sauce. If I just had these on their own I might rate it high but due to the richness of two out of my three previous items I think I was kind of tapped out so all in all these were about mid. What you'd expect but nothing to write home over. Unfortunately, nothing will beat Rollin Fresh's "Kilauea" app that thing is top dog. The heart attack gets a 2/5 Overall I enjoyed Ricky's Sushi and think I will be back to try more. Maybe once my fingers have stopped swelling I'll go back for something less rich, maybe try their nigiri.

A hidden gem for vegans! So many options to choose from. For the price, variety, and portion size this place earns 5 stars from me. I appreciate the clearly labeled vegan menu and the affordability. While I've had better vegan sushi, this place hits the spot and I can get 2 rolls for the price of 1 from other places. It's open until 10pm which makes this night owl happy. The people that work there are very nice and service is fast. They package up the to-go orders very nicely and they plate the orders to eat at the picnic tables very cute too! Impressive for a food truck.

I read good things about Ricky's Sushi so I was excited when I finally tried it out but unfortunately I can't endorse it. The rice was not good and how can you have good sushi with bad rice? Safeway quality sushi rice. The flavors were good but nothing special. Unlike the old joke though, the portions were huge.

It would be easily missed if you were just walking by. Inside there were a couple of small tables adjacent to the kitchen. The ceiling was adorned with tons of cherry tree blossoms. For just a little over $100 per person, the chef's initial courses followed by unlimited omakase, were an absolute delight. Our server verbalized in great detail, what regions of Japan all the different selections of fish came from. Even with the 2 hour limit, pacing felt very even and not rushed. Every single roll and dish was so fresh, delicate, and unique. Some of the fish items just melted in your mouth. At the end of the meal, the owner was so down to earth, took the time to talk to us, and offered to take a group photo. Overall it was a very beautiful experience. Quality was top notch and the pricing for what we got was very reasonable. Would definitely come again and recommend the restaurant to others.

Maybe the idea is to help with any language barrier -- the server spoke fluent English, while often the sushi chefs do not -- but we found him way too attentive. We sat at the bar so we could interact with the sushi chefs. We did talk with a chef, but his advice wasn't very specific. So...despite plenty of suggestions from the server, and some advice from the chef, and a long time perusing and discussing the extensive menu, we still weren't sure what to order. We finally went with a combo and were disappointed to see it served in a boat! That just seemed like a gimmicky, touristy thing, we would have preferred a plate. The fish actually was very good, and so were the salads. A shrimp nigiri was the only misstep, as the shrimp was overcooked. I guess I would return to this place -- hopefully on that server's day off! And make sure my order is not coming on a little boat. And skip the shrimp.
