I walked in 30 mins after they opened & they were still "opening up their kitchen" & preparing everything. No fish was ready. They were all young kids & the one guy who came in late to make the sushi order was complaining how he didn't want to be at work. Not acceptable, & I will not be coming back. The albacore sashimi was more or less still frozen and a funky texture. Cut rolls were just ok. Fresh water eel nigiri was ok. Tuna nigiri also barely reanimated and an odd texture. I love this place. It's decently priced, high-quality, and close to my house. It's a smaller restaurant, and has kind of a bar like feel to it. The variety is solid, and there is a little bit of something for everyone. My favorite simple roll is the Sunshine Roll. I also like the lobster and crab lover. The Yummy Yummy roll is also good, as is the I love Salmon. I love the service (your water glass will never be empty) and the food tastes great. One of my go-to sushi spots in Portland! read more

Wow, this place was great! We came a little after 6pm on a Friday and were seated immediately. The service and our waiter were excellent. During our time there, the place quickly filled up. We can see why it had such great reviews on Yelp and Google. The house salad was crisp and fresh. The dressing was very tasty! The miso soup was great too and tasted fresh, homemade, and not full of salt (unlike other places.) As far as the sushi rolls go, they were very fresh and full of flavor. Would recommended the Vegas, Samurai, and Dragon. We will definitely be back while passing through Portland again. The prices are very reasonable too. read more

This small unassuming sushi joint is bookmarkable! We are nigiri fans and this place does not disappoint! Quality fish, perfectly proportioned rice to fish. Don't sleep on the seared salmon, saba, sake, blue fin tuna (melt in your month goodness), blue fin and yellowtail rolls were also so good. The service was friendly and fast! I don't get all the great reviews. I got Shell Party, I Love Salmon and cheaper Spicy Tuna rolls. My main complaint is that each was at least 80% rice maybe 20% fish. Maybe it was a new chef? The flavors were ok, and the fish seemed fresh, I dunno. There is way better sushi at Bamboo, at the same price point. I'm sorry I strayed from Bamboo, won't happen again. read more

Oh man, they have such nice service but such bad sushi and heinous prices for what they're selling. Womp womp. Also, no pictures or good descriptions of items. They list sushi rolls as though they're salads like - salmon, tuna, avocado, and that's it. And they don't have special rolls like rainbow rolls, where salmon is covering avocado and tuna, while the Whole Foods across the street actually DOES, and for much cheaper. The crab is all fake, even if it doesn't say "imitation" near it. You have to ask for real crab and it costs $3+ extra. They are also VERY overpriced. 1 roll is $10 each (after tax), so it's very pricey. read more

Distracting but better than the alternative I guess. But now I've been there twice and it was the same the second time. Maybe they're more geared toward takeout? Definitely one of the best spots in the City. When you walk in it almost feels like you're in Japan getting ready to take part in an omakase. I won't suggest this place for my friend. They did so poor on the ingredients preparation. The sushi rice is extremely soft like it has been reheat and re-mositured. For the protein, I had ordered white tuna, yellowtail and red snapper. They all mush. I expect There are two reason for this disgusting texture. 1. The fish has been defrosted and frozen over and over. 2. Didn't absorb mositure well during the preparation. read more

So I've lived in the neighborhood for seven years. I've always thought to myself, "gosh I should try that strange looking sushi place on Fremont and 15th." And recently I finally did. This is the best sushi I've found in town. The atmosphere is super cute and makes for a great first or second date. I've tried about seven rolls so far and everything has been exceptional. The price tag is more reasonable than similar sushi across town, and the portions are healthy sizes. The miso was excellent, the staff is friendly and attentive. I am so happy I finally stopped by! The one awkward thing is that they're paper menu has the majority of their rolls on it, and the large plastic menu is just like their specials. I've yet to take a friend or date there and not have to explain that. I only mention it to make sure you see the awesome stuff in that part of the menu too! read more

My first impression wasn't great partly because of the slight "bar" smell that was coming from the restaurant next door. I believe they share the restrooms with their sister restaurant. But once I sat down and started to vibe off the volume of the music, i started to feel relaxed. The soft spoken waiter walked up and gave us his spiel. The Sushi is great ! really fresh and well executed Red Dragon and one with Salmon and Mango were my favs. I didn't, however, like the Miso here. It tasted just a little soapy to me.
