Nice small neighborhood sushi place. Ambiance was great. Service was good, albeit a little pushy for the pricier pieces. Sushi was good.

Oh my ! We were greeted by all of their staff with the greatest of respect! Tu was our server and guided us to what should be experiencing for that day. We also chose our own favorites and enjoyed a wonderful meal.

Omgoodness. This is a cute lil family owned place that just has a friendly cozy feel. I skipped the menu and order just off the specials menu sitting at the sushi bar. I met Mazi the namesake and he was so friendly and engaging and educated me on all the items I ordered. I cannot wait to return and try the rest of the specials menu.

This is a place where one doesn't simply eat Sushi, but experiences sushi. Vibes are impeccable too

fish was fresh and rolls were good. The aged tuna was very unique. However, the service was really slow. My partner and I waited for our sake (not even a mixed drink) for 45 minutes. Our food did not come until an hour later and the server brought the wrong order to us twice. The staff is super kind, but the service was just SO slow. Definitely don't go when you are super hungry. Expect to wait for your food.

Service was okay. Space is cute. They were very busy with to go order. We ordered the platter for 2. The order of things arrived are completely off. Sashimi should come first then nigiri then roll. But it's completely reversed. Rolls came first, nigiri, sashimi. We were stuffed with lots of rice at the beginning. Didn't like the sushi rice. It's mushy and not high quality. Fish in the combo is nothing special, not much taste and low cost kind. Frozen tuna, tai, etc... that you can get from Japanese grocery store. What surprised me is the exact same kind of fishes are prepared in nigiri and sashimi. If I know it's those kind of fishes I would not order this combo platter. I don't usually order these @ real sushi place. We did order some other individual nigiri pieces. Those were a little better. Overall it's not the fish or quality I expect. Probably won't go back.

Fresh fish, creativity, amazing flavors, intimate, has absolutely become one of our favorites.

Stopped in here because I was looking for a quick place with good reviews to get a bite to eat. This places seemed like a good choice, and it was. When we walked in it was empty (they had just opened), and we got seated immediately. Once we were seated we looked over the menu and ordered some miso soups, which were quite good (I feel like miso soup is hard to really mess up). We moved onto our main order, where we ordered a couple rolls, some hamachi nigiri, some other salmon nigiri, and a chefs choice sashimi The sashimi chefs choice came first, it was fresh and plating was very nice. Though, none of the items on the plate were explained to us. I have a general idea of what everything was upon seeing it, but there was one thing I had zero idea about. Once the rest of the sushi came out we started eating, the service was quick and the people were kind. Unfortunately, the first nigiri I picked up had a hair in the rice under the fish.. Common mistake, so I set it aside and moved on. Not a huge deal, but deff something to mention. Overall the experience was good, and if you're looking for a quick bit to eat, this may be a good spot for you!

Me and my partner have eaten here several times before, the staff has always been nice, and the food has always been delicious. I really don't want to have to do this, but today we had a really bad experience eating here. The food was good as always, but the service was another story. We went there today with two of our friends, both of whom happen to be black, and our server was very micro aggressive. He came up to us in the middle of our meal, after already announcing all of the specials earlier , and while looking exclusively at both of our black friends, he asked if they wanted the "special fried chicken". I don't even know what to say. This was a new server, we have never seen him before and the other staff is great. We didn't get his name but he is tan and had an earring. This was a really awful experience and ruined the rest of our meal. Inappropriate and so sad because we loved the food. I really hope to go back WITHOUT the racial profiling.

Sushi Mazi is decent overall, but on my visit, didn't seem to live up to the experience of most of the other reviewers. To be clear, the only location that is open is the one on Division Street, and this is where we visited. One curiosity / concern is with the chopsticks...they're wooden or made from bamboo, and don't appear to be disposable. The tops of them showed wear at the edges (shiny finish was worn off), which lead me to believe that they're washed and reused. Porous materials such as wood and bamboo cannot be sanitized (which is why you'll never see an NSF certification on any kitchen implement that has wooden handles). We decided to risk it and dine there anyway. Service was prompt and friendly, but the food wasn't anything particularly noteworthy. Presentation was nice, but one of our rolls was comically tall, topped with a huge amount of a fried panko / mango mixture. It was tall enough to make it impossible to eat in one go, and if eating in one piece was possible, its flavors and textures probably would have fused far better than they did. Most of the items on the menu are spicy, so if you're not into that, Sushi Mazi probably won't be to your liking. The space is also very tiny, so if you're concerned about the pandemic, it is probably best to visit early, before it gets busy.

Food is exceptional! Service, owners and staffs, goes above and beyond! Not your regular sushi place, but with menus that specializes in aged tuna and salmon. The sushi bursts with flavors. Nowhere to compare, because the menu is created by sushi chef Mark. So so awesome. A hidden gem in Portland. Highly recommend the aged tuna and salmon menu, sashimi salad, salmon skin appetizer. Great selection of sake. Absolute gem! They offer fantastic omakase. If you love sushi, this is a must. Family own and fantastic

It also suffers slightly from that association, as one might consider it "hospital food", with all of its sordid associations. Thankfully, I can confirm there's nothing to worry about here. It's not "top shelf" sushi, by any means, but what they offer is still delicious, prepared competently and quickly, and priced affordably. My wife and I dined here after an entire half-day spent in a series of appointments and check-ups, and were famished by the time we wandered over to check this place out (we'd been meaning to ever since our last extended visit to OHSU). Among the multiple rolls in our order, the Miso Sexy and the Valentine rolls stood out among our favorites; they also make a decent miso soup here, too: not too watery, not too strong, but just right! As my wife is pregnant (again!), I know another visit to Momiji is on the horizon, as we will definitely be delivering at OHSU again. When that time comes, there's no doubt I'll be sneaking out of the delivery room, skipping the cafeteria, and making a bee-line straight for this place, likely smuggling a spicy tuna hand roll or two back with me (my wife's favorite).

I was looking for food nearby and came across this restaurant. The food was surprisingly delicious! We ordered the chicken katsu curry, kama-age udon (hokkai miso soup), and the kama-meshi seafood. The chicken katsu was cooked perfectly: crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside! The sauce also was the perfect texture and taste. My favorite was the kama-age udon with the hokkai miso soup. I love udon but sometimes don't like how thick it is because it fills you up faster and is harder to digest, the udon here is thinner which I fell in love with! It's soft and chewy and the perfect thickness: you dip it on the soup when you eat it. I also loved the soup, I usually have leftover soup when eat noodles, but I finished every last sip! Definitely recommend this dish if you were to only order one item! We also ordered the kama-meshi seafood. I thought this one tasted okay! The flavors of the seafood come through, but I personally like stronger and heavier flavors. It was worth a try! Parking: This restaurant is in downtown portland so it was difficult to find parking. We ended up parking at a nearby garage and paid for parking. They do have a few street parking spots near the restaurant if you want to test your luck! Seating and service: We were seated really quickly as we went on a weekday! They have several tables and a large table that can be reserved as well as bar spots. The restaurant overall looks really nice and is pretty spacious. The servers were really nice and fast to get you what you need! A side note: they have heated toilet seats in their restroom so that's always a plus!

The fried rice's flavor was pretty muted..I prefer a little saltiness in my fried rice and it honestly had barely any salt? It tasted like plain rice with a little soy sauce and maybe oil flavor? It was very thick and each bite felt more breading than chicken..The flavor of the sauce was good but with how thick the breading was, the inside of the chicken had no flavor at all once I bit in.. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items, but I don't think I'll be back to try any others at least for now.
