Cindy was there and gave us a helpful tour of the material displays. We identified the elements we liked and wanted to take the next step. She set up an appointment for us to return and confer. We arrived at meeting #2, and Cindy asked if we had the room's measurements. Whaaat? We're not contractors; that's why we came to this business. How are we supposed to know what and how to measure the room? At that point, Cindy said that we had to schedule an appointment for someone to go to our home to take the measurements. Well, why didn't she schedule the appointment at our first meeting? Had one of our bathrooms completely gutted and replaced all equipment and fixtures. We knew Ric's has been around a while and we wanted a one stop local shop so to speak. They took care of everything from start to finish including managing permits and inspections. The crew and sub contractors were always on site when they said they would and they were all trustworthy and professional. That is huge for us. Plus the quality of work is flawless. Doesn't deserve 1 star. Both women didn't bother to get off their chair to greet us when we walked in. One didn't even turn around to acknowledge our presence. My husband asked about a shower stall that can work for me, who has a disability. Only thing Cindy said was next available installation is in June. We didn't ask, by the way. I felt so uncomfortable and all I wanted to do is walk out. Bad business for the disabled. Didn't help that today was a beautiful warm day and came in shorts. We didn't look the part. We finally decided on Ric's Kitchen and Bath, and boy am I glad! We have had a roofing company for over 25 years and know the good and bad of construction. Ric gave us personal honest attention, and oversaw the project from start to finish. His employees were professional, competent, and just a pleasure to work with. I just can't say enough about how happy I am with this company. We were always able to get ahold of Ric when needed, unforeseen problems that came up were quickly and efficiently handled (some at Ric's expense just because that's how he is), everything was left tidy each night, I felt super comfortable leaving any of Ric's guys alone in my home (including when we went on vacation out of the country), Ric even tried to talk me into some less expensive cabinets that he felt were almost as good and would cost a ton less (I still went with the upper end), the finished project is beautiful and I am happy. Bottom line- in my experience this company is honest, knowledgeable, skilled, and professional. Started out trying to use a local business, saw the 3 stars should have stopped there. We went ahead and decided to get a estimate. We informed them that we just wanted to update two bathrooms nothing fancy, no dual shower heads, granite, marble etc. 5' X 6' bathroom with a neo-angle shower. Estimate for this bathroom was $39,000, yes that's right $39 grand. I mean really? Is the toilet solid gold? We had a kitchen remolded with custom cabinets, granite counters, high end appliances and a center island as well and it wasn't even that much. This outfit is a joke. Oh by the way the other bathroom came in at $39,000 as well, so almost $80,000 for UPDATING two bathrooms. Update: 2 subsequent estimates came in at 18K and 16K both from licensed highly rated contractors. Hope this further convinces people. read more

I was really disappointed in my visit here. I was barely acknowledged, though one person was at a desk and saw me, did not inquire about my needs. The other did, once she got off the phone. I indicated I had a small condo, and wanted at most countertops, and potentially some storage area added; and was working from a limited budget. I was shown a few countertop samples, as time was limited. She did take my specs for countertops, and said she would call me the next day. I was told that they don't do jobs this small, but she would give me a referral. I think their customer service is saved for those folks they can get a complete remodel job from, and the rest of us can fend for ourselves! Rics recently finished our major kitchen remodel. Once again, they did a great job. Workmanship is topnotch. The tray ceiling was removed, and a minor wall where the refrigerator used to be was removed. All electrical work was upgraded, done to code. This truly was a major job. All cabinets replaced, lighting was replaced, counter-depth refrigerator, new cooktop w/downdraft ventilation. The work was done within 6 weeks. There are always minor issues with any remodel. The tile we chose took a long time to get to the US. That's not an issue that a contractor can control. When a product comes from overseas...you wait. In talking with friends and co-workers who had major kitchen remodels, they waited for months to have their project completed. I consider 6 weeks very efficient. Once again I'll say that you can probably save money going to places like Home Depot, but I like the fact that Ric's manages the project from start to finish. One of my friends referred to our kitchen as a 'fantasy kitchen'. it is that nice. HIGHLY recommend Ric's. read more

Following a friend's recommendation I decided to work with Ric's Kitchen & Bath in remodeling my 20+ year old kitchen & 2 bathrooms in Alameda. Since this is my first renovation project I had many reservations but to my relief everything went smoothly without any major hiccups. The whole staff was excellent from our initial meeting to the completion of the project. I appreciated their clear explanation of the process and quick responses to my questions/concerns. Cindy, the designer/project manager was great to work with. She provided regular updates, and as far as picking out the designs, she was always mindful of my personal preferences and was never pushy. After they reschedule the appointment date twice, they cancelled again in the last minute. This time excuse was, our house was two far from their shop. Stay away! Went in to get a estimate to have some major work done, kitchen, baths, they didn't even want to come out and look at the site or measure, told me to send them the measurements. When I did get a estimate, way over priced, had other estimates at almost half the price of theirs, and the other places worked for my business, this guy doesn't seem to care, and the girls in the office don't seem to know what they are doing. We had a complete kitchen remodel several years ago and Ric's Kitchen did an amazing job! Ric helped us through the project every step of the way. Workers came every day and werere clean and thorough. So many decisions are involved in a remodeled kitchen and it can get overwhelming, but the staff is talented and Ric has such a great eye for design. Ric even met me at the tile store to help me pick out my kitchen tile! Several years later, I had an issue with my faucet leaking under the sink and had 3 plumbers come out and each gave me a different diagnosis without resolving the problem. Ric was the only one that actually figured it out and came to my house to repair it himself! (At no cost) I highly recommend Ric's Kitchen and Bath - he's a local guy and easy to work with, as well as being very reliable and trustworthy- even many years after the job was done. read more

We have done business with Ric's 3 times, spending a total of over $100K. The first two times were fantastic. Great customer service and great workmanship. But the third time? AWFUL. The subcontractors were terrible and work had to be redone. And Ric could have cared less. A bathroom remodel for $40K was to take about 4 weeks. Instead at about week number 8 I called them and told them I was not paying them one more dime until the work was completed. Within an hour 4 people showed up to finish the job. Ric's charges a much higher cost than other bids we received, but we figured we were paying more to get more. That is no longer the case. Poor customer service, poor subcontractors. We have more projects to do, We will not return there, nor will we ever recommend anyone else use them. What a shame, but then, my guess is that they could care less. read more

Although I have not contracted with Ric, I approached his business with the intention of connecting him with friends desiring a kitchen remodel and a local glass artisan who could collaborate on future projects. There was absolutely no response from him. I walked into the showroom to ask about the same and was treated as a stranger with the dead-panned response of "we will give him the message." Ric designed and installed a new shower stall in our daughters' bathroom. Ric worked with us on a design, giving us several options and always doing an approximate pricing on the design option. He moved the plumbing to the opposite wall, changed the tub, put in onyx tub to ceiling shower walls, installed new fixtures and a frameless shower door. The workmanship was impeccable and the project was completed within the estimated time frame. The workmen laid down protection from the door, up the stairs and to the bathroom to protect the hardwood flooring and cleaned up after themselves. Our daughters love their new shower stall. My experience with him is that he was over-priced, was never responsible for any problems that arose, and became rude when anything was questioned. Various neighbors told me his crew were seen frequently in front of my house, socializing and doing nothing. No wonder the time frame had to be extended! read more

Don't be taken in by this guy's charming ads, family run business, or claims that he can complete any job in 1 month. We hired him for major post fire damage. He demanded all payments in advance of performing work, did a bait and switch from the time of the "firm bid" and contract signing, costing over 100,000 more than our contracted amount without one change order. We were out of the house for over a year, the job took over 6 months, he used a very poorly trained and unsupervised work crew. insisted on using the cheapest paint, cheapest materials and refused to repair or replace the damaged flooring, woodworking, paint. HIs crew lost or broke a couple of antique light fixtures which had survived the fire, and although I provided pictures, he refused to replace them. His work crew left their tools in plain sight, resulting in a break in, theft of our newly replaced kitchen items, he fired his worker but did not own up to it being an inside job, and basically said I was lying that we had about $500 of newly purchased kitchen items stolen. He said he would file a police report and a week later I learned he had never filed it. We couldn't move back in because the water heater was redtagged and we had to hire an independent contractor to fix it so we could move back in. The wood flooring installed in our formerly destroyed kitchen was so poorly installed that 3 companies and an independent inspector indicated it needed to be replaced, while Ric made me work with his flooring subcontractor to keep getting more bids and ultimately refused to refund or replace the floor. Ric never visited the work sight to see the completed project or to evaluate for himself the many workmanship issues we had. The floor is buckling, very splotchy, wood was not primed nor was the subfloor prepared, yet he refuses to make good on his subcontractors work. Numerous pictures were sent to him to prove the damage to our home from his inexperienced work crew, yet he never visited He issued a stop work order after we had paid over 100% of our contract amount, insisting on excess payment , and essentially held us hostage until we ultimately paid him far more than our contracted amount, which we were coerced into paying because we had run out of resources to pay for housing, and needed to move back into our home. He sent many threatening emails to "foreclose or file a lien" on our house, even though I had a track record of American Express payments made every week to two weeks IN ADVANCE of work being performed. Do not be taken in by his "Diamond Certification" or fancy storefront. He is a complete fraud. read more

I went into Ric's this past Saturday. Went toward the back of the store to find a young lady just sitting there. She did not acknowledge me or even say hello or ask if she could help me. I asked if she could assist with some cabinets and she matter-of-factly said they do not carry that brand any more (even though their website says differently). I had other materials that I needed help with but she did not ask if there was anything else she could do for me. She clearly made me feel like I was bothering her. There was no way I was going to consider doing any further business there. Two days later I followed up with a telephone call to let Ric himself to let him know about the treatment I received. The lady who answered the phone asked the reason for my call. I merely mentioned that I wanted to discuss a "cabinet issue" and she had the nerve to say that "he would call me if he was interested"! I have never heard of such a thing. This is the worst customer service ever. read more
