    Shrimp N' Grits
    Karina C.

I took my husband here tonight for his first visit ever! We normally frequent a seafood location in High Point, however, I was getting more disappointed with each visit and needed a change. I love the options here! Seafood comes in different ways, paired with different proteins, and a nice selection of sides. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor is rustic, but so is the building and the business and it's very fitting![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service tonight was great, as usual! I tried the shrimp and grits this visit and I was blown away! Such a delicious combination of flavors! My husband got the small popcorn shrimp with fries. He was impressed with the amount of food! His only complaint was that they did not have crinkle fries, but he enjoys his meal nonetheless! A nice change to our usual Sunday seafood dinner!

I always enjoy a fried broiled or boiled place! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also enjoyed coming here early before it gets crazy busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was ok. Not bad but not amazing. The service was really good and the prices are a little bit higher than I expected.

Service is always solid, [[HIGHLIGHT]]for ambiance - think grandma food in the 70s.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But what I was served last week, looked like snots in a bowl. I have never been so turned off by how something was served.

Lunch special of Popcorn Shrimp and Flounder with a Baked Potato and their excellent slaw
    Fred B.

It had been awhile since I'd visited this very good Southern style seafood restaurant, an institution in Kernersville since 1972. We both had a lunch special - Popcorn Shrimp and Flounder for $9.99, which comes with slaw, hush puppies, was and 1 side. This is a lot of food, and remains a nice value meal, especially in the current market place. And this is true even though the size of the special has shrunk - there was a single piece of fish where there used to be 3! The menu here is varied, with soups, salads, and country cooking choices - but this is first and foremost, a fried seafood stronghold - and they do it well. Another frozen food.....hush puppies taste like cardboard

This was the worse catfish I've had in many years. If I would have known that it wasn't fresh but frozen I would have not wasted my money here. My ranch dressing was spilled all over in the inside of the bag, so no dressing for my salad. I have no idea what kind of frozen hush puppies they gave me, but they taste like paper. It's just HORRIBLE!!!!! I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants real fresh seafood.

I'm a country girl and a sucker for catfish. Let's just say Captain Tom's does some great fried catfish and they don't skimp on portions. I usually order a small fried catfish plate. It has 2 large pieces of catfish and then you get to choose 2 sides and it's served with hush puppies. They are always busy but I've never had to wait long to be seated. I've never had a bad server. Last week I ordered my usual with a baked potato and upon unwrapping it I found the potato was bad. They did nothing to the potato it was just a bad one. I asked my server for a replacement and she was more than happy to fix the issue and I had a new potato within mins. It can get a little noisy but that's because everyone is conversing and enjoying their food. All in all a great place to grab a bite.

Not much to put here. Seated at 8pm, still no waitstaff at 820...left for another restaurant. Attempted to share with the hostess but she was busy on her cell phone and didn't pay any attention.

Sometimes you just want to eat at a fish camp... after all it's a highlight here in the south. Seafood piled high, a tall glass of sweet tea, condiments on the table ready to be abused, way too much to eat and some sea farin' decor. Yeehaw welcome to the Carolinas!

I used to be a regular patron at this great seafood restaurant. Great customer service and if you enjoy a good, fresh hot shrimp Po'Boy, get your order in today! First off the bread is fresh and soft, the shrimp is crispy and hot. It's delicious and the hush puppies are delicious!

We stopped in to grab a late dinner. We were seated quickly. I would love to say more but the menu is the only thing I had. We sat for 15-20 minutes waiting for a waitress. Others around us were lead to their seats to and followed by a waitress. So I can only show the picture of the menu I received. We left after the crazy wait.......

The egg rolls were mushy on the outside and the pork inside wasn't fresh... it hadn't expired... it just wasn't fresh. Maybe cooked this morning or even yesterday. The General Tso Chicken was made with low quality chicken. My wife actually spit it out it had so much chewy gristle. The sauce (which was supposed to be spicy had no bite. The broccoli wasn't lightly blanched... it was raw. The pork fried rice had no pork, didn't look fried, had a few undercooked frozen vegetables, and no egg. The pork lomein was the best single item... but I'd still give it a 2 out of 10. If the food was good I can forgive the esthetic of a mostly takeout restaurant... but given the horrible food the atmosphere was the icing on the cake. It's been years since Covid had us putting plastic barriers between us. Three unrelated items for sell. There is a candy vending machine (maybe to save people from purchasing dessert?). There is no culturally aligned Chinese music. And not surprisingly, there is no smell of food being cooked to order. I'm thankful for the pleasant weather because something tells me the HVAC wouldn't be on. Avoid this restaurant. I'll be driving to Greensboro next time I want some average Chinese food over this disgusting joke. I honestly have no idea how their Yelp average is 3 Stars. I'm recommending to Chef Ramsey Kitchen Nightmares!

My first go was the giant spud with chicky tendies and buffalo sauce. The chicken is so tender and has the right amount of batter crispiness to it. The sauce was very flavorful, but if you don't like it heavy-handed, you might want to ask for the sauce on the side. They aren't stingy. My spouse was raving over their jumbo shrimp. I can't speak to that because I don't eat them, but I haven't stopped hearing about since we went months ago... It's a modest-sized restaurant on the one busy street in K-ville. The staff was very friendly and everything was clean. Great for groups of 4 and under as it's a somewhat small space with limited seating for any group larger than a 4-top.

However, the food was also just decent. I liked the tenders and sauces and not much more than that. The fries were more than plain and the jumbo shrimp lacked flavor in my opinion, so I dunked them in buffalo sauce to kick them up a notch. For this visit we opted to eat inside and the tables were all sticky. Not in a dirty way, but almost like they had cleaned the finish off them or had removed contact paper and not used any goo-gone. With a little elbow grease or some cheap "fixing up" I think that situation could be rectified. We also were almost blinded at the time we ate around 7/7:30pm. The windows on the front allow sun directly in the restaurant and there's no way to block it. Thankfully we finished as the sun went down and we didn't have to deal with it long before we left. If you like tenders, this wouldn't be a terrible spot, but there is definitely room for some improvements.

There was live music from a two-man band singing soul and Motown standards. Both had great voices, and the music added a lot to the evening without taking over the room. Our server, Ty, was so friendly and knowledgable. She was warm, helpful, and made good recommendations. We started with the Brussels sprouts, and they were delicious. Sweet, flavorful, and cooked well, they still taste it like Brussels sprouts. You might even be able to convince a toddler to eat these. Definitely a recommend for me. The menu now includes small plates, which are priced a bit lower than the regular prices . It had been years since I visited this location, so the menu felt new to me even though a few familiar dishes were still there. My husband ordered the roasted chicken small plate with onion rings. He thought it was delicious. Between the chicken, Brussels sprouts, and fresh yeast rolls, it was plenty of food, and he still had some to take home for the next day. The chicken looked like at least half of a small bird, so the portion was generous for a small plate. I ordered the pasta Alfredo. Ty recommended adding both chicken and shrimp, so I did. The chicken was mixed into the pasta, and the shrimp were arranged on top with a small edible flower. It looked good and tasted good, although the Alfredo was a little bland for me. It needed a bit more seasoning, but the chicken and shrimp helped. This was a very enjoyable dinner. Good food, friendly service, live music, and portions that made the small plates feel like a good value. Must order: Brussels sprouts Tip: The Alfredo is mild, so ask for extra seasoning or Parmesan if you prefer more flavor.

For $103, this was a letdown…read more We ordered a pomegranate martini, a whiskey and Coke, and two "small plates" -- beef medallions with l'orange sauce and the beef short rib. For that price point, I expected quality and execution. It just wasn't there. The short rib was very tender, I'll give it that. But it was swimming in a heavy gravy with potatoes piled on top and steamed spinach hidden underneath, which made the whole dish soggy and overly heavy. Then there was a random orchid blossom and a branch of whole parsley on top (mine had a flower, too), which felt completely out of place. The beef medallions were the bigger issue -- no sear at all and they had a slightly gamey flavor (which I'm hoping doesn't come back to bite me later). Honestly, the l'orange sauce was the best part of the dish and the only thing saving it -- without it, the plate would have been close to inedible. The "crispy potato medley" was neither crispy nor seasoned -- and I mean not even salt. It was mostly zucchini, squash, and red bell pepper with zero flavor. All 6 of the tiny potato cubes themselves tasted like they came straight out of a freezer bag. Nothing was inedible, but nothing justified the price. The whole experience felt pretentious without actually delivering on quality or execution. I will say -- the staff was very nice and attentive, which was the highlight of the experience.
