Rigatoni's is one of those places where you just feel at home. The staff is very helpful, the food comes out quick, and you leave feeling satisfied. This place is always clean but can get busy around 5 o'clock when the dinner rush comes in. Some things are a bit pricey but you can't beat the lunch special. I also recommend their to-go and catering services. However, when I did cater I wasn't offered help carrying my items to my car, something I would have appreciated since I had quite a few things to carry out. read more

I am just getting around to posting my review on this place, although my experience with this place was actually a few months back. Let me start off by saying that we usually go to the location on Hesperian & A Street in Hayward. Although the area is more sketchy, the restaurant itself (on Hesperian) is cleaner, larger, has air conditioning (or decides to use it) & newer construction). I found the staff @ this Castro Valley location to be rather unfriendly for food industry folks, the actual restaurant looked run down & all together unkept/dreary, but the worst part was the food. Side salad was mushy, especially the tomatoes that we're either around too long, bad quality, or both. Lettuce was wilted & quite a bit warmer than room temperature. Cajun pasta that is full of flavor @ the Hesperian location, was bland & barely warm. Husband, Mom & myself agreed not to go back to this location & I suggest you don't either. I visited Rigatoni's with a friend last night for dinner, I ordered my food at 7:50 did not receive it until 8:20. The place was not packed and all we did was ord. 2 single items. I don't understand why it took that long? when I went to the counter to inquire about it from the Cook's they said it was done, so did an employee but yet they didn't give me my food? then 10 minutes later I decided to go to the counter again and ask for my order, they said it was sitting on the counter not under heat lights or anything, just sitting getting cold. I asked how long has it had been ready and the employee said about 10 minutes, and I'm like well couldn't you have called me? he said I did. And I'm like okay so if you called me I would hear you , I've been waiting and I've been inquiring about it. Overall, I just thought that was really poor service of the restaurants policies on to go orders, and to make matters worse when we opened our food it was not even hot, they didnt even bother to put spoons, forks, knives, anything in our bag! I was just really disappointed. Finally, I have to comment on the lasagna I ordered, it was the worse I've had. The meat was tasteless too big and chunky with a lot of gristle in it, the sauce had no sweet notes of fresh tomatoes in it at all, and it was a little salty. I often come to this Rigatoni's as it's in my hometown. Unfortunately, last night was an epic fail! I ordered dinner for 5 people by phone like I normally do. The cashier said it would be ready in 20 minutes. Twenty minutes later my two boys drive up and the food is not ready. This was unusual as they normally will have it done and bagged by the time we arrive. Okay, my two sons sat down and waited...and waited...and waited. Occasionally asking the cashier if their order was ready. They were informed, "sure, it's coming right up." Customers coming in and ordering at the restaurant got their food before my boys!!! After 50 MINUTES my sons asked again. The cashier, a young man, asked the cook, "Are you going to cook their food yet?!" When my boys heard that they asked for their money back! (Should have asked for their money back sooner!) I could not believe the customer service Rigatoni had last night. Someone needs to get fired!!! I will think twice about coming back. So sad this is happening to our Rigatoni's. Lesson learned: order your food there or else don't come at all!! read more

My 3 stars is based on my husband's like of this restaurant but since I'm Gluten free it was o.k. since the only thing on the menu I could order was a Rosemary Chicken. Aside from the fact that it took 20 minutes to make (which they neglected to tell me) and my husband was through with his meal before I got mine this chicken was delicious. Never is my order right if I carry out. You order Italian Sausage and broccoli fettuccine and get Italian sausage and fettuccine only. Order spinach and cheese tortellini and get the smallest order ever. You order one of the specials and it's never what it says it is. This is a scaled down version of Strizzi's, also owned by the proprietors of Rigatoni. I find the Strizzi's version to be of much higher quality, although the prices are not that much higher. This is a great place for a quick, pretty good meal. I usually get an extra spicy version of the Cajun Chicken Fettucine. It's very good, but I've noticed the quality of the chicken going down over time. My wife gets the Ravioli's and seems to like them because she gets it every time. My elementary age son LOVES the macaroni and cheese. The lines can be slow at this place, but it usually works out because seating is first come first served. All in all, a good alternative in the fast(er) food segment. read more

The states of Arizona & Utah offer a comparable option, with a drive thru window (e.g. Fazoli's)....if I'm gonna have to get out of my car for mediocre pasta, you should consider that offering a self serve (e.g. unlimited) bread bar will not faire well to the atmosphere of craming tables so close together that the average fat american cannot move in between them. read more

I went in with a friend. Didn't expect much. I was very happy with every aspect of my experience! There is no real table service, but we were approached to see if everything was ok. My spicy chicken fettuccini was hot and fresh. The salad was very good. Crisp and fresh. Very important to me. My friend was happy too. Delicious bread. Great meal and service. I will go back. I have lived in Castro Valley for 20 years. Finally decided to order at Rigatoni's for pick up tonight. The place always looks full which is a good sign. We ordered 4 different meals. This has to be the most bland, unappetizing pasta I have ever eaten, just horrible! My "marinara" sauce was the very same "meat sauce" that was on the other dish. Both tasted just like tomato soup with some chunks of stewed tomatoes thrown in. Could see some dried green spices in the sauce but could not taste them at all. For $2 bucks, I could of thrown a bag of pasta in a pot and poured Prego over it. It would of been much better than my $8.00 dinner! What are these paople thinking? The food isn't bad for what it is. It's quick, reasonably priced and fairly tasty. However if you seek subtle flavors and authentic taste, forget about it. My issue is the older man who is either the owner or manager. Normally we order to go, and are served by a cheerful young lady who is always helpful. The last time we rolled in he was working the counter. When we requested fresh Parmesan cheese for our entrees he snapped "should have mentioned that on the phone!". I said what? Ok we had a group of 20 we wanted to do food for. So Rigatoni's was convenient thought we would try their Italian Food. We spent $307.36 for food to go in aluminum tins for 20 people. We probably over bought but who likes to run out. After we paid we asked if plates were in the bag. Uh plates are a $1.00 each, what ?, plates are a $1.00 each, really? YES. Another $21.80 for 20 plates later. Needless to say, never going back, ps I wonder what salt to go costs? I have been coming to Rigatoni's Restaurant for many years and can say I have always enjoyed my meal. I have enjoyed dining in and last night I had take out. As always the staff is friendly and helpful. My meals have always been freshly made and they have the best bread bar. I would recommend Rigatoni's for lunch or dinner. read more

I visit Rigatoni's whenever I am not in the mood to cook. Not only can I call in an order for pickup, but even if I decide to eat in, the wait isn't very long. There are a bunch of sauces to choose from (my favorite is the pesto!) and you can mix and match with any pasta (raviolis, fetucine, spaghetti). I know Italian food can be really heavy but the manager told me that the marinara sauce is fat free so when I am feeling health conscious I change my order to the marinara sauce. Overall, its affordable, convenient, and has a pretty nice staff. It may not be a high end restaurant but it is definitely worth trying. read more

We have been coming to this restaurant for many years and always felt the food was very good for the price. We were there on September 14, 2012 and had the worst service ever. We made our order paid and sat down. After 15 minutes we still had not received the salads you usually walk away from the counter with. I went up and asked about the salads and was asked what we ordered. About 5 minutes later they were delivered by a very apologetic waitress. She came back a little while later to say they had lost our order could we tell them what we had ordered as our main course. We finally received our food. The waitress was horrified and very apologetic. On top of the horrible service my husband ordered a pasta dish with sausage and there was so much gristle and bone in the sausage he was unable to eat most of it. The waitress came back before we left and gave us the managers card and apologized again. She said she felt as did we that he should have come over and at a minimum apologized for the kitchen service. The manager is Ricardo Contreras and I have never seen worse treatment by management under such a situation. We had been loyal customers. read more

Food was decent at best. So you go inside you place your order at the counter and they give you a tray and you can find a seat. Honestly my favorite part of this whole dining experience was the bread bar. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs , and my boyfriend ordered the spinach and cheese tortellini. The food came out in about 5 minutes great way to know that it's not really fresh . The spaghetti tasted very sweet and the tortellini was very mushy. It tasted alright but I don't think my bill should have came up to $35 for two small plates and one soda. I'd much rather have went to Olive Garden or something like that and I don't even like Olive Garden but at least I know there I'll get what I pay for. It's also kind of gross to sit down and in the midst of eating you have multiple flies buzzing all in your ear and over your food, and then turn your head and see smashed flies on the window right next to you. Somebody else must have been flustered by the same thing. Would never go here again was so grossed out I almost wanted to ask for my money back. Went here for lunch with my co workers today. Overall, it was an okay place to eat. The cashier was smiley and friendly and the girl who cleaned our table was nice too, not to mention, extremely coordinated. (She was able to clear all our plates in one go, that was about 11 plates) I ordered the Italian sausage fettuccine from their lunch menu and asked to "split it" with a co worker. "The "split"portions were just right AND the lunch special also comes with bread and a drink. The total came out to 10 dollars and something cents with an extra beverage. Not bad. The food itself was okay. The Italian sausage tasted too much like fennel to me, but the sauce was good and the pasta was "al dente" I also helped myself to many slices of french baguette, poppy and sesame seed, and rye or wheat bread from the bread baskets. That, paired along with a self serve fountain drink was more than satisfying for lunch. My co workers ordered pasta pomodoro, chicken parmigiana, and spaghetti and meatballs. They all like their dishes. The reason I gave 3 stars was because of the dessert. We ordered one slice of carrot cake, chocolate cake, and cheesecake to celebrate my co workers birthday. The cheesecake was good, especially with the fruity drizzle. The chocolate cake was dry and the carrot cake was pretty hard to chew and the frosting tasted like it had lard in it.
