Pizza pizza, yes please! Slice, slice, yes please! Was working nearby for the day and needed a quick lunch break. This was perfect! Located in a really cool marketplace but with it's own entrance and little corner space, there are 4 sets for 4+ seaters and some 2 seaters. I would have LOVED to sit outdoors but there was only 1 umbrella. Bummer! My pizza was delicious. And the extra bonus was that they had a small mixed greens salad to balance all the protein on my slice. What made this marketplace even better was the plentiful amounts of parking available for free in the back. It made me think of San Mateo. Love a little "Peninsula coolness" in the east bay. We first tried Slice House during CV Cruise Night and have already been back twice since, so that says a lot! My kids keep it classic with the pepperoni and cheese slices, while my husband and I have become fans of the Wiseguy and Motorhead. The slices are delicious, service is quick and friendly, and they have outdoor seating, which is a nice bonus for those late summer afternoons. Definitely becoming one of our go-to pizza spots, and we'll be back to try more of the menu! read more

After hearing people talk about the "award-winning cheese pizza," I was expecting something that would actually stand out. I honestly couldn't figure out what was supposed to be award-winning about it. It tasted like a standard, basic pizza. Nothing terrible, but nothing memorable either. There are several pizza shops around the Bay Area making much better pizza without anywhere near this amount of hype. I think social media and Instagram have gotten a little ridiculous with constantly declaring certain places "must-try" or "the best." Sometimes the hype becomes bigger than the actual food, and that's exactly how this place felt to me. For all the attention surrounding Tony and his pizza, I expected something exceptional. Instead, I've genuinely had backyard homemade pizzas that impressed me more. Maybe I'm missing something, but if you're going to call a pizza award-winning, it should taste noticeably different from an average pizza. This one simply didn't. Tasty pizza place! My husband and I tried the NY style Purple Potato and Walker's White Pie slices. Both were so good! I only wish they had more individual slice options available. I wanted to try the Hot Honey and Cal Italia slice, but were only available as a whole pie. I'd still come back to try other slices and possibly order a box or two. The restaurant is located in downtown Castro Valley as part of a food hall. There's limited street parking but a few nearby parking lots available. There's limited seating inside but plenty outside. Where to begin. I genuinely would come to slice house once a week when frequenting the Castro Valley marketplace. The pizza options in terms of slices and pies were great. Ive noticed a shift where dam near every single slice option has bacon/ ham/ pork options. I do not eat any type of pork and its disappointing that it's become the case. Ive also noticed this at other slice house locations. I used to really enjoy the Big Papa that they took off the menu and replaced with a similar option that includes pork. Every week I check the slice house line up options and maybe 1 (basic cheese) are non-ham eating friendly. The Bay Area is a diverse place. Would recommend some market research on the diverse groups and eating habits of those that live in and frequent the locations. Authentic pizza can be made that doesnt require every option to include pork. I know they have other menu options but sometimes you dont want to buy a whole pie. read more

This location is a part of a food hall with a grocery store and some other small food spots. A cheese pizza will run you close to $30 but based on the pizza in the area it's worth it. We recently tried Slice House in Castro Valley and were really impressed. We ordered a Sicilian-size pepperoni and sausage pizza along with a large Hawaiian pizza, and both were solid choices. The pizza itself is really good, especially the crust--perfect texture and flavor. One thing I loved about the Hawaiian pizza is that the pineapple is thinly sliced, not those chunky tidbits that keep falling off. It makes a huge difference and keeps every bite balanced. Portions are generous, and the serving size is definitely great value for the money. We also ordered the cannoli, and it was pretty good--nice way to end the meal. Great place with yummy pizza. I waited a little bit to give a review because I wanted them to sort out their workflows and I can say the improvement is great. Early on I would show up and my pizza would be ready but I was not told nor was it out for me to find. I can say they now consistently call names, ask me what my name is when I walk in, and I have a great take out, delivery, or dine in meal. I really love the creativity of the pizza options and the option to have multiple types of crust size. My favorite is the Cal Italia! The saltiness of the prosciutto and the sweetness of the drizzle make it the best! They have some good happy hour rotations daily and the hot oil is delish. One day I wanna try some pasta but for now, I'm sticking to the za :) They have rotational slices daily so you can try something new each time. If I could leave zero I would. My parents would frequent this establishment 1 to 2x a week. Every time they've come it's been all good but their most recent visit was horrible. They called ahead of time to order a pineapple, ham & extra bacon pizza. When they arrived and received their order they brought it to the staff attention that the pizza was not even warm and the bacon was just tossed over the pizza which gave us the impression the pizza wasn't made to order. When the employees reheated the pizza they would mock my parents and laugh pretty loud. They only ate one slice each and lost appetite after seeing how gross the employees were behaving. They found a hair strand & have the impression the employees could of done something more to their pizza. Like spit on it. They covered their window with pizza boxes but we could still hear them laughing. It's pretty sad because we're a family of 20 who will support this business or to mention a mom club from Oakland and San Leandro who will now refuse to support this establishment. It was more than disappointing , it was like a bad joke . It was very thin, flat, with very little sauce and cheese and tasted like a stale cracker. I am SO glad that Tony's pizza decided to do this Slice House franchise! They have the highest quality pizza. It is available in a wide variety of huge slices at an affordable price! I love this place! I usually order the pepperoni from here, which is topped with the finest pepperoni on top of beautiful 00 crust in which the gluten has been fully developed and respected in order to create the perfect Al-dente crust. Every pizza I have tried at slice house has been SO good! Yesterday I had the Caesar salad for the first time! I would have much preferred that they had tossed it with the dressing and served it on a real plate instead of in plastic, but I can't complain too much, because the lettuce was crisp and fresh, the croutons were lovely and fresh, and it came with authentic shaved Reggiano! I'll start by saying that when we first started ordering from here, the pizza was consistently good. Fresh, well-made and delicious. Lately, it's been hit or miss. There have been orders where the toppings were skimpy or missing, and orders where the pizza was undercooked. I don't like writing reviews, especially if they're on the negative side, but tonight I couldn't skip a review. It was that bad. We decided to order a different style, with different toppings. A grandma style BBQ chicken. A full third of this pizza was inedible, Absolutely burnt on the bottom and outside edges. I couldn't even bite through it. It was a sad, dry, burnt pie. I know the difference between "caramelized" and burnt. This was burnt. If we lived closer, I would have brought it back to the restaurant, but we are a 15-20 min drive away. For nearly $40 a pie, this is totally unacceptable. To make matters worse, there is no way to contact via email (ordered online) to give feedback on your order. I am extremely frustrated, disappointed, and hungry. I am not exaggerating when I say that I've had better frozen pizza. Seriously. If you're going to order a bbq chicken grandma style, do yourself and your wallet a favor and just pick up a frozen CPK bbq chicken from the grocery store as there is very little difference. And then if you burn it, you only have yourself to blame. That said, the Detroit picante (which is our usual go-to order) is usually really good - unless it's under cooked and toppings are skimpy (which is sometimes the case.) So sad - this is one of the better places for takeout. We may give them another chance, but not anytime soon as I hate getting burned. read more

The outstanding component imo is the hot oil and ranch combo with the pizza that really makes it stand out. Oh wow! I could've swore I gave a review earlier being this was my only place to get pizza slices. Normally I would say how much I love this place. Today not so much. Why is 2oz ranch $1.25? Whatever happened $0.25 and $.50? I went right across the street to Safeway and bought a bottle of ranch for 2.49 so I wouldn't have this issue again. That's insane for that little container.
