I came to Rigatonis on a Monday night at 6:45pm. The restaurant was clean, organized and just a welcoming atmosphere right when I walked into the door. I have been coming here for over 11 years and the remodeling of this place looks modern, new pictures and new paint! The new menu on the wall even looks cool. I always get the Fetticine Alfredo or the Cheese Ravioli! ... if you want meat, the Rosemary Chicken is also pretty bomb! The Garlic Bread is great and always toasted to perfection! Tonight I give Rigatoni's 4 stars because i noticed everytime I come in, the sauce for my pasta varies. Sometimes it is creamy and thick, while other times its more herbal and runny. I got the Cheese Ravioli and the sauce tasted delicious but it seemed to run under my pasta. My friend got the Fetticine Spinach Tortellini and the sauce was very thick ( a little too strong). Overall, if you want fast Italian food for the price and quality.. this is the place to go! read more

This used to be one of our favorite go to places in Castro Valley. I've lived here my whole life. I don't know if there need ownership in the last year or two but the service is terrible. We used to love it. Now we have vowed to never return. We gave it chance after chance. First of the customer service is terrible but ever since COVID they give two measley tiny pieces of bread. I ask for just two more even though we get more than over meal and I am always looked at with scorn more when they reject my request. I understand hard times for restaurants, I do. But you flatly say no and then look at me like I've asked for the whole loaf disgusts me. We used to be Rigatoni lifers. Now we will never return. You lost a loyal customer Rigatoni's. I would rather drive down to Dublin to eat at the Rigatoni's there. It pains me to write this but they are just terrible now. And it took months before they were winning to wear a mask. They forgot to include items from my order for the second straight time and when I called them to notify them about the issue the person I spoke to offered to accommodate me with a free small salad for the inconvenience. I wasn't happy about having to drive back to get the item that they forgot to put in my order but to add insult to injury when I arrived the woman behind the counter refused to honor the offer for the free small salad. This was extremely annoying since I didn't even ask for any free anything but since they offered I figured I would accept the free salad for the inconvenience. If the food was half-decent I'd probably give them another shot but that was my third strike so their out. read more

Never a complaint to be had from Rigatoni's. It's fast food Italian and you must keep your expectations in check. I usually order the meatball sandwich. It comes with 3 meatballs so if I feel hungry I'll order a few more on the side, or if I feel like having more meat to bread ratio. Speaking of, the roll is, in my opinion very good. I think it's a sourdough roll, but I could be wrong. The crust is crunchy but the inside is soft. The sandwich also comes with a side of potato chips. I also like to order the mixed greens salad with chicken and blue cheese. It comes with cranberries and walnuts. Very delicious. And I really like my protein so I get it with extra chicken. The bread bar is usually stocked with fresh, soft bread but if you go near closing you may find it lacking or slightly stale which is understandable. The staff is overall friendly, though sometimes a bit shy (high school kids). I enjoy coming here and will go back. read more

I was surprised by how this place is set up. You order in the front and they bring your food to you. The prices are good but the quality of the food I had was lack luster. I had the chicken parm. It was very very salty. I love chicken parm but this one was the saltiest I have ever had. It is served with rigatoni pasta which was odd and that was too salty too. The garlic cheese bread was very good and had a lot of cheese. Service wise there really isn't other than the front desk and the buser who brings your food. If given a choice I'd go to the Olive Garden instead. read more

Delicious and Reliable ~ My family and I have frequented this location many times. If you're not familiar, this is a quick serve Italian food restaurant. You order at the front counter from many relatable Italian pasta selections, soups, salads, specials as well as an affordable kids menu. Their food is perfect for a family or if you're looking for a quick simple bite to eat. My main reason for feeling inspired to write this review is because of their staff. Today, I ordered a side Cesar salad while I waited for my pasta. Unfortunately on this day, the salad was tasting a little off (the dressing seemed sour) and after a few bites, I decided to set it aside while I tended to my toddler. A nice waitress came by and noticed I was finished and quickly asked if the salad was to my liking. I let her know my thoughts and kept the conversation simple - she was very apologetic and asked if she could bring me another salad or even a dessert. I told her that was very thoughtful but that I didn't need anything else (bad days happen after all.) We received our pastas a short time later and enjoyed those very much! Another kind woman who seemed to be the manager (or at least the person in charge at the moment) came over. She also insisted on helping remedy the salad issue. After a lot of offering, she asked to at least have our toddler pick a cookie on the way out. How could we say no to that? :) We finished up and made our way to the front for a cookie. The same manager met us to help. She provided a cookie and a few dollars in "Rigatoni's Bucks"! So beyond thoughtful - they truly went all out to make sure their customer left happy. When we first moved here, every time we walked by Rigatoni's, it smelled like Garlic Heaven, so we had to finally try it. Honestly, this place was a huge disappointment. The entrees tasted like stuff you could pick up in the freezer aisle at the grocery store, but you get it here for double the price. The garlic bread is pricey, and tastes very average. Nothing about our meal here - meat lasagna for me, and penne for the wife - stood out. It was so plain. If I'm craving Italian food, I'll go to the city and check out Little Italy, or I'll buy a bottle of vodka sauce from Trader Joe's, or I'll maybe venture out to Olive Garden. This place is a self place...they had 4 people working in the back and little customer service...you get your own forks, napkin and so on 3. You pay upfront which makes it difficult to challenge horrible food that is served because you have already payed for it. 4. Uninspiring. I've eaten here a few times, and basically it reminds me of Italian food you would find at a shopping mall. Everything I've ordered at Rigatoni's has just been bland, though the cajun pasta my girlfriend ordered was apparently so spicy that she couldn't eat more than a couple of bites. Props to the welcoming and helpful staff for bringing us in and getting us ordering right away! The menu is not super extensive, but it covers your Italian-American basics. Husband opted for spaghetti and meatballs, while I went for something lighter (chicken salad). We also shared an appetizer of cheesy bread. The highlight of the meal was definitely the service and my salad. The salad had grilled chicken, which was served with aesthetically pleasing grill marks and not over-cooked or dry. I was a happy camper with my salad. The cheesy garlic bread was nothing remarkable... would've been fun to have some marinara sauce on the side for dipping? While I liked the idea of the unlimited bread bar, one can only eat so many small slices of sourdough, wheat, and brown bread before one realizes this is all a ploy to make you overlook the terribly mediocre pasta. Husband's spaghetti and meatballs looked average. But don't be fooled by the looks. The noodles were mushy. The sauce had no flavor. The meatball was also really bland. No amount of hot pepper flakes could salvage the tasteless pile of meat and carb mush we were served, even though I loved how much the server was doting on our puppy and was super helpful toward us. I kindly ask for our order status and someone assures me it is coming out. 32 minutes after ordering I need to ask again and I get the 'your cheese pizza takes a long time.' The cheese pizza that the table next to us received? They ordered 14 minutes after us. Again need to ask for status of the rest of the order, with a reply of 'would you like a refund?' YES. This is unacceptable. She then proceeds to take my son's pizza as he is about to take a bite. Right out from underneath him. Really? 'You can't have both your food and a refund'. The manager looked like she could care less about her customers. We were refunded and left. I'd much rather frequent the Hayward Location on Ast. #1: It's a newer building, therefore everything is new and fresh and clean. #2: They have a much more extensive menu offering ribeye steak as well as grilled salmon fillets among other things. #3: Their staff has ALWAYS been friendly and helpful and has even suggested some ordering tips (when ordering for children) that saved us money. My family and I have been to the Castro Valley location a few times. This time was pretty bad. You know what you're getting when you come here. I ordered lasagna, wife ordered rosemary chicken and the boy got a meatball sandwich. Watched couples and families come in and get served. Not just one or two, but about 10. So I went up to ask what was going on. It takes a bit linger for lasagna, errrr that's why the other three tables served got lasagna ahead of me. No it was the chicken that takes 45 minutes to prepare. Eventually the food came, but by that time it already left a bad taste. The manager comped the meal, sort of. It's standard pasta -- well cooked but not a ton of flavor or skill in the dishes, but edible. It's more like a casual cafe than a nice restaurant: you pay for the food before you sit, open seating, bread buffet, fill your own soda cup. I think it completely succeeded at being more than a fast food restaurant, but not quite fine dining... affordable for families and welcoming for children too. I love the self-serve bread bar (when I wasn't on Atkins!) because you never run out and you don't have to ask for more, you just get up and grab it! The olive oil and balsamic vinegar mix goes great with the bread, too! I also like the soda bar, free refills! I appreciate a restaurant with a simple menu and this place has one! My blondness gets confused when there are too many choices on a menu...haha! They did change the menu up, so when I did go there recently, I was disappointed to find they removed my favorite from the regular menu. The manager said they do have my item as a special occasionally, so I will call before I go to see if it is indeed a special. I LOVE the Cajun Chicken Risotto. It is super spicy with red bell peppers and on the healthier lowfat side! I also like their house salad. It completes the meal and the Italian dressing is tasty! Though I had my mouth ready for a few slices of pizza I said OK lets go. I ordered Garlic Bread, Lasagna and a soda while my wife had Spaghetti and Meat Balls and a glass of wine. The young woman who took our order did the right thing and ask my wife if she also wanted water to go with the meal and wine. The staff was kind and courteous. The food was wonderful, but I would have wanted the Garlic Bread before I received my lasagna. It was listed as a starter, which means to me an appetizer before the meal. Would i go again, maybe. The food at this rigatoni's was much better than the food i had at the Rigatoni's in Dublin.
