I have been to this salon a couple of years ago when there was only one young woman stylist working there pre pandemic as a walk-in and was able to get my I make a concerted effort to support College Avenue's small businesses whenever I can. I have been a resident of Oakland since May 2001 and the Bay Area since August 1976. I needed a trim recently and decided to patronize the new to me barbershop and salon located at the same spot on College Ave as a walk-in. I entered the salon and sat down in the one seat facing the street as the 4 stylists, visible, worked on their clients. I waited for someone to finish to see if I could get a haircut. After about a 20 minute wait and no one approaching me until the stylist nearest me and the street window finished with his client. He advised if I want a haircut that I would need to make an appointment next door. I asked him if he would be free and he said he didn't have any appointment. As I was waiting no one came to me to let me know about their appointment process. There was a young teenager sweeping the floor. It was as if I was invisible . I walk next door and there was no one at the reception desk. I then notice a young woman in the closet and asked her who do I speak with about making an appointment. She got up and approached me and asked me if there was anyone of the stylists I wanted and responded No. I just want a trim. She walks into the salon next door to ask and returns to tell me there was no one available. What upset me most was that the stylist I spoke with said he was available and than she returns to say they have no appointments open for the day. Recommendation to Salon Manager/Owner: Close the door to salon and post a sign stating appointments required, please go next door. Or Instruct all stylists for any walk-Ins, please stop what you are doing and direct them next door to make an appointment. Or Advise the stylist assistant sweeping the floor to approach any walk-Ins and ask if they have an appointment. If they don't direct them to the appointment desk next door. I Also overheard while waiting one of the male stylists complaining about something and he knew I was there but didn't approach me. I will not go back and patronize a business that clearly lacks customer service or even offer to make an appointment for another day. I told the young woman that my experience wasn't good for business. read more

I don't usually write Yelp reviews but hands down, Dave just gave me the cleanest haircut I've ever had. I have Asian hair that can get difficult for a lot of barbers to get clean cuts out of but no problems for Dave. He was meticulous setting my part, tapering my sides, and shaping until everything was perfect. He really cares about getting it right and it shows. I've been looking for a great barber in the Bay Area for 5 years and in one sitting, I think I found my guy. Francesco came to my rescue a few days before my wedding! I made a huge mistake going to great clips a few weeks ago thinking any small mistakes would grow themselves out, but ended up looking like a hot mess for a solid 4 weeks. As a person who has literally no idea what to ask for, I wasn't even sure if it was possible to fix what essentially looked like an explosion of cat hair that came out of the dryer and ended up on my head. I've been looking for a go-to barber JUST for a straight razor shave & haven't really found one that doesn't charge for an arm & leg. I've stumbled upon this place based on a colleague's recommendation. The online scheduler (Vagaro) was clutch & truly fits in my schedule; chose Gerard Muhammad, because he was open at 11:30 on the same day, and glad I did. He started by finding out exactly how I liked my hair, and asked a lot of questions on what I liked and not liked. He's a cool funny dude in general and kept me laughing throughout with his stories. Also, the shop is attached to a cool salon; perfect to bring your lady, while the guys get pampered & freshened up by a legit barber - gotta give my props to Gerard. Super personable and really takes pride in his work.The Right Angle delivered. Came back once more - Great every time. Highly recommended, and I'll definitely be back whenever I'm in the area & in need of that barber shop experience of a straight razor shave. For the first timer, it is indeed a salon, but they just expanded and included a super low key barber shop in a bright and welcoming, casual and relaxed setting - despite the area that it's in, they're very reasonably-priced. The place seems pretty small from its exterior, but spacious inside - giving that homey vibe in this tastefully done barber/salon in the uppity Oakland's Rockridge district. Excellent service. A large friendly dog greeted me as I walked in and waited for my appointment. The offering of a glass of water was a nice bonus while I was waiting. Although the hairstylist I had an appointment with ran a little late with the prior customer, I appreciated that she took the time to finish her job well and looked forward to letting her work on my rather long hair. Francesco was fantastic! I initially swung by Temescal Alley Barber shop, but their wait was an hour long and running past closing time. I called Right Angle, and they said I could walk in. I told Francesco I'd been letting my hair grow for a while and was ready for a cleaner look, but not too short. I wasn't sure what else to say and asked him what he recommended. He took over, asked for feedback along the way, and gave me one of my best haircuts in years. He's personable and professional. Right Angle is the same price as Temescal, just as good, also gives you a beer or coffee while you're waiting, and takes reservations and cards so there's no need to wait for hours or go get cash. It's a little less hip, but a lot less of a scene. I'm converted as long as Francesco is there. read more

Got a cut here a couple of weeks ago, was extremely good service. Gerard cut me and gave me an excellent bald fade. He did the whole barber routine too. Perfect fade, razor line up, shampooed and product in my hair. Got me leaving fresh AF. I'm giving 5 stars because the barber Gerard was dope, but I didn't like the atmosphere. It felt way more like a salon. No one was talking, no TV. Usually expensive/nice(i guess they should correlate nowadays) barbershops offer whiskey or beer. I believe there was only coffee tea or water offered. He was patient with me even though the cut I asked for is typically a 45 min - 1 hour haircut. He wasn't rushed at all and did a fantastic job. I'd be more of a regular if it was a tiny bit cheaper. Highly recommend Gerard. read more

I received the most wonderful hair experience with Tanya a few weeks ago! I desperately needed a haircut and style because my hair was long and damaged from a horrible balayage that I'd gotten before from an "upscale" salon in SF. My long CURLY hair was in such bad condition that I decided to let it grow out so that I could chop it off. Tanya was super understanding and worked with everything I told her about my hair and about what I wanted. I love that she's a great listener and conversationalist. She cut my hair, offered me a keratin treatment, and blew out my hair for the day, resulting in a great-looking, silky long bob that I'm incredibly satisfied with! My hair was cut by a guy named Lucky. He gave me the worst hair cut I have ever had. My girlfriend kept trying to be nice, but Lucky just wasn't a nice guy. Moving in for the cut, Lucky was attentive and friendly without being overbearing or forcing a conversation. Gave the cut I requested perfectly.
