When I purchased my place, the garage door wouldn't even latch. It was a type that you had to manually open with a key and pull up. The key wouldn't lock it. Almost 3 years ago Dave Whiting from Right Way Baja Pacific Garage Doors and Gates stopped by and asked if I had considered a roll-up garage door? After 26 years of dealing with a conventional door that barely opened, the answer was....duh! Of course I am. I was told years ago, that my rafters were too low and my cabinets too high to install a roll-up door. And so, it would take some major work to accommodate the the tracks. I passed at the time and when Dave told me they could do it "no problem" with low pass tracking, I had questions.... Lots of them. My main concern was my Truck fitting under the door as well as having enough room behind to close the door. Dave assured me that his guys could do anything when it came to garage door installation.... Two days later his guys showed up exactly as scheduled, calling to let me know they were in route and arrived on time. I was still skeptical about my decision until I shook hands with the installer Justin and side kick Ruben and watched them in action. Like machinery they went to work uninstalling the old door and hardware, making a few modifications and installing the new hardware. I've been in construction 42 years in San Diego and can honestly say, I would hire these guys in a heartbeat. They were professional,, confident, and extremely competent. I wanted to be happy with my new garage door and opener - Dave Whiting seemed so nice... HOWEVER, I feel I've been conned! After receiving a contract for a basic door and opener, I was frequently encouraged to upgrade. I specifically told Dave in writing (which he had acknowledged) I wanted to stick with the basic setup as per our contract. However once he installed the opener he put in an upgraded unit. When I mentioned the balance remaining, he told me it was $300 more, which I paid without checking my file. Once I figured out what he had done, I reminded him I only wanted the basic unit AND showed him the previous communication, he simply said he felt I need the upgraded unit and made no offer to make this $300 overcharge right. These guys are the real deal! I've been meaning to change out my garage door for over a year, but I've been deterred by the quotes I've been receiving by installers. Since my installation was non-standard (cabinets blocking the entrance, fan in the middle of the garage), most installers would shoot the price up to something far outside of my comfort zone. I had been thinking about replacing my original 28 year old garage door for a few months. After numerous times of it not going all the way up, warping, strange noises,etc. I became afraid of my existing door that it was going to come crashing down or a spring would fly off reeking havoc. The sales lady, Lyn happened to come to my door last July 1st. She was very professional, knowledgeable and easy to talk to and no sales pressure and knew the answers to all our questions and also made suggestions. I ordered the Model 225 with woodgrain textured steel with sculpted panels with windows at the top. The installation was completed by Alex only 4 days later. He did a great job with the installation, explained how everything worked and hauled away the old door. He brought a couple different window insert designs for us to try out. Dave, the owner followed up to make sure we were happy. I love the door. I think it's the best looking one on the block and the paint will never peel. It is quiet, has a vinyl bottom seal and outside keyless remote. This was just a wonderful improvement to our home that gives me pleasure almost every day just looking at it when I come home and every time I open or close it, no longer fearing the worst may happen. While backing out of my garage, the worst happened. I pocket dialed my opener and the door came down on the top of the car. Not a mark on my BMW X1, but the steel strip at bottom of the door was bent and noticeably damaged. Although the door still functioned fine and the damage probably wasn't noticeable to anyone else but me, It was like having big door ding on your brand new car. I called Dave and he promptly made arrangements to come over and inspect. Unfortunately, Alex was unable to straighten the bent strip and dent in the bottom of the door, so the entire bottom section, which was 1/4 of the door, needed to be replaced. Dave took pity on me and offered to replace the material at cost and zero labor cost although he had no obligation to do so and probably would have cost close to $500. Soon, I hope, I will forget that ever happened. This one was a mixed feelings for me. Good stuff first.. The sales person was very nice and friendly. Tim was a great installer. The garage door works perfectly and we liked it very much. The only reason that it is not a five star is I felt that I was a little taken. After the installation and and I paid for the door, I was browsing on-line and I thought I give these guys a review. Found another garage door company and thought why not give them a call to see if I actually are getting a good deal per the salesman. After a few minutes on the phone describing to them what I would like to have (the same gauge, door and frills) that I had installed.. The price quote came back to me $50 cheaper than the price I paid. I bought the garage door after I talked with the salesman that knocked on my door and without checking references or a second quote.
