I have passed by this particular restaurant on numerous occasions. And yesterday I decided to go inside to place an order. The decor of the restaurant was decent, the place wasn't a big restaurant. But they had seating in the back .I ordered a whole chicken with rice and beans, plantains a salad, and a few Peruvian green and white sauces. The chicken was seasoned just right ,beans and rice was on point, salad and plantains as well was tasty. The cashier was nice and courteous, and the prices weren't to high. read more

UPDATE: My Co-Worker was nice enough to share his meal with me and the bottom line of the food. Not great. The chicken itself was dry, Sweet Plantains were dry, no green sauce to compliment it. I am sadly disappointed in this place. Will not be coming back to this location. It's upsetting when a company orders lunch from this establishment. I wish I could have given a 5 star review but the one item ordered was underwhelming to say the least. I ordered a beef fried rice referred to as "chaufa de carne". I've included a photo and my iPhone makes all food look good. However, this fried rice included a sub par meat that was similar to chewing gum. Additionally, it only included clumps of white rice, salty taste of soy sauce, scallions, and scrambled egg. It was missing vegetables and flavor. I make this dish better myself and I'm not Peruvian. My family and I have been long time customers of Riko. However, this will be the last time we order from this restaurant. On many occasions, they forgot to include items in the orders. On this particular day, we ordered food for pick up. A quarter chicken combo with rice and salad. Unfortunately the bag was tied tightly and we didn't realize until later that they did not include any salad or sauce. We tried to call the restaurant to let them know, and all they could say is that they don't speak English over and over and hung up the phone. They were extremely rude about it and did not try to communicate with us. I don't think it's appropriate to run a business and not have any staff available that cannot communicate with non Spanish speaking customers. We are in a very diverse neighborhood and it sends the message that you are only willing to cater to your own. I've called before and had conversations in English about ordering cakes and catering and the person I spoke to was able to communicate with me. So I'm not sure what changed or why they were unwilling to solve this problem. It's just the lack of effort that is disappointing because we are trying on our end to communicate and I fear that they use the language barrier to not take accountability for their mistakes. I only suspect this because of how frequently it happens. Anyway, we've given this place many chances and won't be doing so again. read more

Definitely not the best Peruvian I've had, but also not the worst Peruvian I've had. The parihuela is very reminiscent of regular tomato soup, and they basically only put a bunch of fish in it. Arroz con mariscos is a bit dry for rice that's supposed to be cooked in sauce. Papa a la huancaina was good, flavor on point, sauce was pretty runny though :(. On a positive note, my Peruvian husband said their ceviche was bomb as hell. We'll come back next time for more ceviche, and maybe give the lomo or anticuchos a try. read more

Was on a double date with my girlfriend and friends on a Sunday night, roughly around 10 p.m, and we had such a difficult time finding a place to eat. Our first and back-up choices had closed, and we'd given up until we found this place on the monocle feature of the app. The shop is small and is very easy to miss. The front is very narrow and leads to maybe 4-5 tables with seating in the back. The space is bit tight but warn and comfortable. The staff is very friendly. Although most for he waitresses and cooks only speak Spanish, the language barrier is very manageable. They're very attentive and quick to take your order. They offered complimentary wine while waited and later when we were waiting for the bill. As for the food, it was all really good too. Two of us ordered the 1/2 chicken combo special with a side of avocado. The rice and beans were nothing special, and the plantains were not as sweet as I hoped they would be. The highlight of that dish was the chicken. The chicken was plentiful. It was savory and not dry. Our friend ordered the rice chaufa, and she loved it. She loved how much beef was put into the dish and loved the simplicity of it. Finally, our other friend was unsure of what to get, so he played it safe got a chicken cutlet with rice and fries. He had no complaints at all. This place is a gem, especially for late nights! Be on the look out for more gems in Jamaica, Queens. read more

I ordered takeout tonight from here on Grubhub. I'm not sure what I was thinking. I mean, by all accounts, it should have been decent. I read Yelp reviews. I read a few other reviews on other sites. It seemed like this would be harmless, and relatively safe. Boy was I wrong. But, you should know, I generally do not review restaurants I get takeout from, unless they are truly exceptional. And this place was exceptional, exceptionally horrible. So, I ordered two relatively safe things. I ordered friend calamari (Calamares Fritos) and a large chicken soup, or Aguadito Soup, as it's known in it's Peruvian version. The calamari was disgusting. Rubbery. Very salty. (And, I like salty, but even for me, a saltaholic, it was too much.) I couldn't even eat it. I basically just ate the outer coating (the fried flour). The calamari wasn't edible. FYI, I love calamari. I eat it regularly. So, this was particularly disappointing. The soup was like dishwater. Really. I'm not being mean, just honest. And, the chicken had bones on it. So, I basically ate the fried flour outing of calamari and two sips of a large soup. Now, I'm tossing it out. read more

I order from here because they deliver to my house quick when Im craving spanish food. They have decent prices and give a good amount of food. I ordered the family combo limeno and it was so tasty. I also love the arroz chaufa with chicken. Its incredible! Staff is nice and they deliver fast like I said. However, I call rather than order from grubhub because they come faster that way. It's okay. The rotisserie chicken isn't the best but it's decent for the price. I've mainly tried their chicken through Seamless a couple of times out of convenience and lack of options in the area. The food isn't always consistent which is their main issue. Some days the food tastes pretty good and some days it's just okay... I've tried their combo chicken with fries and beans. Fries were great but the beans were inedible for me. Tasted weird. Looked totally different from the pics on Yelp. I've had a lot of Peruvian food in East Elmhurst so this place isn't anywhere near as good but hey it's Jamaica .. and at least it's available if you're tired of trying everything else in this area. This Peruvian place is very good! We ordered one entrée and shared it between both of us. The flavorful yummy steak came with rice and french fries. So good!!!! We also had a side of fried plantains. Tucked in the middle of the block is this small restaurant. What made a big impact during my visit was the the incredibly thoughtful and thorough service provided by Carolina our waitress. We order anticuchos and a small Jalea. I will warn you that there was nothing small about the Jalea platter. If our server had not mention the small and large size option, I would have thought it was the large size serving. However, it was loaded with a good selection of lightly battered , mussels, crab, shrimp, fish, calamari, yuca and thinly sliced red onion soaked in a very tasty well balance vinagrette. Sometimes you just don't know when to quit, so we figure we try the limo salteado. I think the beef was slightly over cooked. Not a lot of taste or seasoning in comparison to the appetizers. IMO the Jalea was very good option for an appetizer, from a price and portion stand point. An even better choice when it's shared by a table of 3 or 4 adults, yes small Jalea can feed that many adults as an appetizer. The anticuchos it cow heart were well seasoned but they would benefit from being cut slightly thicker so that they do not dry up as soon as they are removed from the grill. When we first sat down, we were served those fantastic corn nuts and they brought a small container with green and white sauce. The green sauce had a nice kick and a hint of heat on the back end. Well let me tell you that I had to ask for extra sauce cause we wanted to put the green sauce on everything we had on the table. The white sauce went well with the tender lightly batter fish from the Jalea platter. The lomo salteado did not stand a chance, it was fine but you can get that in just about any Spanish restaurant. We are talking strips of beef with onions, rice and beans. The difference here is that they serve you rice and beans and french fries all in the same platter. Carolina our server was very engaging in describing the specials of the day as well as anticipating our needs through out our meal. the best part was when she brought us 2 glasses of wine, just so that we could try the house wine with our main course. All I have to say is that I cannot wait to go back and have the ceviche which is a must have on the list of items right along with tallarines Verdes and steak. IMO is a good place to have a meal and not break the bank..lol read more

I placed an order around 6:40 with and estimated delivery of 7:40-7:50 their orders are normally on time but once I didn't see my order or a call at around 8:15 I called the restaurant the woman who answered the phone sounded rushed/busy and told me my order had left and was on its way 9pm I had to call again cause my order still didn't arrive 10 minutes later it finally made it and the food was for one cold, the rice had hair in it my hair is blonde so I know it wasn't mines and then the liquid from the onions had leaked out into the bag just sloppy! We were excited at the prospect of having leftovers, but after our small plate, we were pretty much done with it. Do not get fooled people (like I was). THIS IS NOT THE PIO PIO CHAIN. I was craving Pio Pio and did a yelp search for the restaurant, although I know exactly where all the locations are in Queens. So when I saw a location in Jamaica Hills, which is pretty close to my house, I decided to check it out. However, when I got there, it was this teeny tiny hole in the wall that looked nothing like the Pio Pio chains that I've been to. When I got inside and sat down, I actually remember thinking (more like convincing myself) that it must be the "original" Pio Pio or something. LOL. By the way, I actually looked online at Pio Pio's website, and there is no mention of this location, in case you're wondering if this is really the original chain. Anyway, the chicken is good, not gonna lie. The meat literally just slid off the bones and melted in my mouth. However, I also had their paella, but it was bad. The seafood was not fresh and the rice was kind of dry and hard and it was just blech. The women who work there hardly speak English and the patrons all seemed like locals.
