We are visiting from Hawaii and we Yelped to find a restaurant on the way to the Luray Caverns in Virginia. This is where we found this gem of a restaurant in a strip mall. It was a refreshing stop. Seating was in a comfortable booth. The ambiance was fine and friendly, especially our waiter. Service was fine. We ordered the wasabi alfredo poke pasta which was a delightful concoction that included a slight wasabi taste in an Alfredo sauce compliment by tender seaweed and some really fresh yellowfin tuna. The combination of the ingredients were perfect, making for a thoroughly enjoyable dish, one that I would come back for any time I am in the area. Yes, I could crave this dish. Along with the pasta, we ordered the wilted baby Romaine salad and a desert of deep fried cheesecake with ice cream. Both were great! Good job, by the owner and the chef. read more

Do not judge a book by its cover. This place is in a strip mall and doesn't look like much, but walk inside and it's a foodies dream come true. Amazing. We had the crab pretzel to start which was nothing like I expected, the crab dip was inside the homemade pretzel. The blackened Mahi Sandwich was so good and the blackened chicken pasta had a little spice and was not at all creamy. It was really delicious. Even though we were stuffed, we were afraid to leave without dessert--good thing we overeat. The dessert was exceptional. Good food, music and ambiance! Don't miss this place. I am never disappointed when I come here! The food is phenomenal! Everything is fresh and unique with a touch of class. The feel is modern but cozy at the same time. How about mentioning the word RESERVATIONS somewhere on your website? Beyond that, please have an adult who can answer (simple) questions as your host/hostess/face of your restaurant instead of the two high schoolers working the hostess station at 5 o'clock on a Saturday evening. Found this gem on yelp while traveling. The food is top notch. They have a small menu, but that just allows them to master it all. Service was snappy and genuinely nice. I had the Reuben and my wife had the Havana. Some of the best sandwiches we've had in a long time. The soup was cream of crab and it was delicious. Desert was fried cheesecake. As multiple people have commented don't get scared off by the surroundings. The food, service and ambiance is outstanding. We always try to stop on our way home from deep creek. This time we had the pleasure of meeting the co owner / chef Aric. He was speaking with another table and we wanted to tell him how much we enjoyed the food. The prices are very reasonable for the quality. Just wish it was closer to Rockville so we could visit more often. We tried the red pepper hummus which was outstanding. Then the three of us had the caprese sandwich , the Mahi sandwich and the pork BBQ sandwich which were all excellent. You have to get the sweet potato fries which you'll thank me for. The food here is truly great. Fast friendly service. Only one small complaint and that is the grits in the special of the day I had the other day. Grits are supposed to creamy they should definitely not hold together in a ball. Other than that I haven't had a bad thing on their menu. read more

Great food. Kids special was a nice surprise... A lot of food prepared with the same attention to detail as the adult plates. Mussels were fresh and clean and grit free. Rik's Cafe is awesome! Don't let the location discourage you. We ended up there two nights while we were staying in the area because it was that good. Delicious hand cut fries and sweet potato fries. All of the meals we ordered each time were wonderful; mahi mahi tacos, crab cake sandwich, lamb burger, southwestern reuben. One night I ordered the burratta salad, some of the best burratta I've ever had, and the chef added more salad greens to it so I could make it a meal. Then there was the dessert! They get theirs from a local baker and they all looked amazing. We got the blueberry lemon cake and oh my goodness!! SOOOO good! On top of the amazing food, the service was incredible! This is a great place!!! It is easy to drive by, but we were tipped off by a local so we checked it out. Great caesar, and I don't say that easily. Get it. Braised short ribs with gravy was delicious. Wife had the chipotle chicken pasta and daughters had the grilled chicken strips (8yr old) and the blackened mahi tacos. House made ranch for the fries was a big hit. Service was friendly from hostess to manager. Waiter, Patrick, was fantastic. This place exceeded expectations. Don't be fooled by the location or exterior of this restaurant! You will be amazed when you walk in the door. This is high-class dining meets casual in a beautifully decorated combo restaurant/bar. We have been to Rik's 4-5 times and have enjoyed everything we have tried. We highly recommend the Rik's shrimp ceviche and the blue sky mussels. The ceviche is flavorful and light. The mussels are a fantastic mixture of blue cheese and bacon that is nothing like we have ever experienced. As for salads, the grilled baby romaine with flank steak is wonderful but small. The Italian cold cut sub was huge and packed with authentic Italian deli meat and cheese. The blackened mahi tacos are good but the portion size is very small. We love the friendly staff and the owner, Rik, makes it a point to come check in with each table to ensure that they are having a pleasant dining experience. The prices are high but represent a good value, considering the quality and creativity of the food. Casual environment, intimate low-lit dining which is perfect for a date night. Artwork is displayed nicely on the walls from a local artist The bar is gorgeous and they have fantastic martinis. We have been very pleased with the helpful staff and the food overall. This place is a diamond in the rough. I kept seeing this place pop up as suggested when I search for restaurants in Hagerstown. Because of the restaurants near this area have not been stellar I have avoided going here but boy was I wrong. The atmosphere is like an upscale lounge. Lights are dimmed to set the mood. The food! The food is sooo good! There is a variety to choose from on the menu. I had the prime rib sandwich. It used to only be available on Sundays. The waiter explain but it is such in the main item that they had to start serving it every day. I am so happy for that change!! The meat was so tender and well seasoned. The bread was toasted on the grill so the edges of the roll were slightly buttery and crisp. The only thing that could complement this sauce was horseradish sauce which was served on the side. Yum! Let's talk fries. Perfectly perfectly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. You have to say it twice:) If you read any on my other reviews good fries are sooo important to me. Because evident serving fries is an art and a science that many restaurants failed at. Rik's Cafe gets a A+ from me. Highly recommended!! read more
