Food was okay. Looked really good but to me it wasn't amazing. Service was good and the ambiance was good. I feel the prices were extremely high. I guess every restaurant is hurting because of the economy or taking advantage of it. The good thing is that they don't ask for a tip when you pay( perhaps it's secretly included in the price). I came across this restaurant on yelp while visiting North Carolina. I haven't found a good Central American restaurant back home and this place had everything I always crave so I just had to stop. My boyfriend and I ordered quite a few things to try. We ordered the Bistec Ranchero, Carne Asada, Tacos Dorados, Cheese Pupusas (orders are 3 minimum btw), and atol de elote. This spot has authentic food. I even loved the feel walking in there... felt like I was back in Central America. The staff were friendly. Everything we ordered was really good. Stumbled upon this place tonight. The restaurant is extremely clean and the service was excellent despite the language barrier. The menu is in Spanish and the waitress spoke little English so that was fun challenge. The food is decent. They don't have hard shell tacos - I ordered my husband steak tacos and he didn't like them. I got a quesadilla and it came with white rice and beans. The quesadilla was decent. The building looks lower end with a very sloped down parking lot. So you think the food must be good cause when do hole in the walls miss?! This one! The 2 waitresses/cashiers seemed to have attitude problems or they were slow in the head, just stared at me while I spoke and took forever to respond. That was the strangest interaction I've had at a restaurant in a while. The food was so average especially charging 4.50 for each carne asada taco. If you want a great local spot to eat at in Northlake, this is it! I have lived in the Northlake area for several years, and this is the most authentic, well flavored food I've had in the area. The owner is passionate about every food item on the menu and provides fantastic service! You can tell he loves what he does, and I love to see it! The servings are large and packed with flavor. The tortillas are homemade and so freaking delicious. I got fajitas (as pictured) and my boyfriend got the baleada. The menus have an English side and Spanish side. You can sit down and order at the table, or call in an order to go. When you are ready to pay, just walk up to the window and you're all set! I'll give it 4 stars because it is still authentic. The first time we went I would say 5 stars, but we went again and the standards have dropped the food quality is not as good. It is different and authentic and perhaps that's the problem here... people around here are looking for you Tex-mex restaurant and this ain't it, so rather than develop their own clientele they start catering to that bland American same old same old menu and it loses its special flavor. I never knew about this place until I drove by it and saw it was a Latino restaurant. It's in the cut so you wouldn't really notice a Latino restaurant unless you're looking really hard. I decided to give it a try since I like going to lempira. The place is really small with 4 tables. The staff is super nice and are fast. I got a horchata but it didn't exactly taste like horchata. Tasted kind of watery with a cinnamon flavor. I got 2 baleadas and sopes. Everything tasted really good and it was hot and fresh. Definitely recommend giving this place a try they would not disappoint you! read more

Family run business w authentic Latino food. The owner and his wife were so nice and friendly. They have English menus available. Nice selection of items. I got tamales to go. And they were really, really good! The masa wasn't dried out like some places, There was big chunks of pork. My husband loved the spicy green salsa. I will go back when I see they aren't busy, to try other menu items. Only reason for the 4 and not 5 was that there is still a mask mandate and NO one in the kitchen was wearing a masks and it's a small place. Don't let the exterior intimidate you from going in and getting some of the best Latino food in the Charlotte area. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I don't speak any Spanish but they had an English side to their menu and the nice guy at the window spoke excellent English. Their tacos were all amazing (we tried the chicken, asada, and Al pastor) but my favorite part was their yuca con chicharrones- the pork was similar to chunks of carnitas and the yuca even comes with the yellow sauce you get at Peruvian restaurants (ask for the yuca to be fried!). They also had great coffee and homemade pastries. This place is a gem!!! read more

The owner is an old coworker of mine that opened up this restaurant last year. Tonight, I finally popped into the business to check it out - it absolutely did not disappoint. He was nice and friendly like always, and did an excellent job at explaining the ingredients of the menu items I was interested in. I left with bisteck ranchero, pollo con tajadas, and yuca con chicharon. All the food was packaged nicely, and the plating had a nice touch to it as well. I didn't get to take any pictures, me and my fiancé demolished the food - it was so delicious! By far some of the best authentic Latin food I've had. PLEASE support this business. As described by many, the place is a small hole in the wall, however, the food is very authentic. NO, it is not Puerto Rican, and NO, it is not Mexican. The cuisine is a homestyle Guatamalan meals. White rice has a little bit of corn in it, some of the plates have a black bean puree, and all meals come with a warm soft corn tortilla. The menu does have some English descriptions but it is mainly in Spanish with plenty of pictures (however, I do speak and read spanish). I have not try everything but I tasted three of their homestyle soups. All served with side of rice, lime wedges, a little container with chopped jalapeños and onion mix, and those warm tortillas. The soups were, Gallina (hen) soup, the tripe soup, and the beef short rib soup. All three were excellent. The tripe soup was a little spicy with a tomato base. The beef and Hen soups were with a clear broth with generous amounts of vegetables. The other thing we sampled was the pork tamale. It was huge and the masa (dough) was smooth and delicious. I will definitely return. The only thing I would give a thumbs down to was the fact that the menu has no prices. Average cost for the soup, rice and sides is about $15.00 to $17.00.
