It's a great, classic, steakhouse. Service is great, atmosphere is great, steak is fine. Just like Peter Lugers in NYC it feels like it has out lived it's reputation. My last visit was probably my last visit. Why? The cost. Taking my son out for his birthday the meal for three - one adult and two kids - was just shy of $400. Was it a great meal? Yes. Was it worth $400 - not even close. A few days prior I took a client to Laurelhurst Market and the steak was less than a 1/3 the cost and it was twice as good. Not nearly so fussy, dark or traditional but it was much better in every way. The first time I went was 12+ years ago and it feels like the costs have tripled. It's really hard to justify $75 for an 8oz fillet or $100 for a 12oz New York. Sadly it's time to move on. read more

The allure of a place with so much history and reputation has not been lost on me in the over thirty years we've lived in Portland. Yet, until last night I'd never been. Wow, what a huge mistake that was. The ambitious - and old school, styling of the establishment gives the RingSide a sort of out of "Chicago gangster" vibe. Dark, a bit moody, and all together mysterious - the place screams steakhouse; and, on my goodness does it deliver. Aside from the food - which is incredible, I walked away from my RingSide meal with a profound appreciation for the impeccable service. The service is next level. Something I've really only experienced at Michelin restaurants. From the greeting to the table, the RingSide knows that making customers feel comfortable is a big part of their job. Heck, at over $400 for a two top, the price point is one of the highest dinning experiences in the city. It is, however, wholly worth it. The crab cakes literally melt in your mouth. The Cesar salad finds the perfect balance of flavor and texture. The onion rings - heck I don't generally like onion rings, are, as James Beard is noted on the menu for saying, are "the best in America." Alas, the true star of the evening is the beef; and it is amazing. Flavorful, perfectly marbled and cooked precisely to order. I'm afraid that I will start dreaming of my cut of meat. It was that good. As one Yelper stated in their review - I'd go to this place often if my budget could afford it. Came here B's bday dinner and did not disappoint. We got the famous onion rings, and while B does not like onion rings, he literally ate the whole plate. The dipping sauce is something else - super yummy. Awesome drinks and the food was great too. Service was wonderful and delicious dessert to end the night. Cool restaurant inside/ separate bar area for after work drinks. You can bring your own wine (probably a cork fee). Dim lights and overall nice place for a date night. Came here for Valentine's Day and really enjoyed our visit our server Hank was so attentive and friendly and also really interesting to hear the story about ringside. The aesthetic of the place is awesome. Very old style love the music choice. It's kind of like a post snore themed ambience and low barrels, bricks and wine cases everywhere. I had to dry aged, New York rare and it was very good. It's a little more rare than they usually cook, but they probably do it better than me. They had a really good umami type flavor and aroma on the surface. The famous onion rings are no joke, and I couldn't stop eating them, which probably made me full faster before the rest of the food got there. Had like a light tempura like batter really crispy and the onion had the perfect bite to it. It didn't string out or was too slimy or too hard. We also got the lobster mashed potatoes, and there were some hearty pieces of lobster claws on top of the mashed potatoes. It was very good. My wife did get her own steak. Was brought here for a date last night 2/20/26 The ambiance when you walk through the door is amazing and very romantic. It's gone through a complete remodel and looks great inside. Keli, our server was very friendly and her service was impressive. We ordered for an appetiser the onion rings which were very good. My date ordered the Filet Mignon with Lobster on side for me. I also had the Caesar Salad without the anchovies. I was served A Willamette Valley Riesling one of my favs and it didn't disappoint. Dinner tasted so good and nothing was left. We had a reservation here in late August upon the recommendation of my sister. My girlfriend and I somehow got a 7pm dinner time on a Friday here and arrived here ready to eat and be impressed! Once you walk in, you're entering a dark area that gives intimate steakhouse vibes. We were led to the back area with more privacy and some unique decor. Our table had a portrait of Muhammed Ali looking over on Sonny Liston with his boxer shorts hanging in the frame next to it. Pretty nice touch if you ask me! We didn't do any fancy cocktails, just some red wine and a few gin martinis. They have wines by the glass or you can go fancy and get a bottle. We decided on a couple glasses of the Walter Scott Pinot Noir, not bad although at $22/glass is overpriced; but the girlfriend wanted it so that's what we did. The martinis were a much better option, I ordered a second one since the first was wonderful! As for food, we started with the onion rings due to the hype surrounding it as the best in America. They are extremely good with the thick batter and the onions being at the perfect texture. You can dip it in their special sauce or ketchup, it comes with both! As for entrees, it's always steak! For her, the 8oz filet mignon; while I went with the 20oz bone-in ribeye. We both got baked potatoes to pair it with and a side of the sauteed pole beans (green beans) since we needed a vegetable for our meat and potatoes. Our steaks were delicious and cooked to our preferred medium rare. We didn't get any dessert as we were both stuffed afterwards but we saw the lime cheesecake go out to the party of 4 sitting next to us. We pondered it but decided to call it a night and close out. We had a wonderful dinner at Ringside earlier this week. Dinner started out with a nice surprise when the hostess took us to our favorite table a a corner booth in the bar. Jake our waiter had perfect timing which added to the enjoyment of the dinner. Cocktails were wonderful and the "Onion Rings" crispy and tasty. Ringside might be the best restaurant I've been to in Portland. The food is superb, the steak quality is excellent. I asked mine for medium rare and it was perfectly cooked. My son asked for medium and they didn't blink an eye. The onion rings were crispy and hot, they flew off the table into our mouths. The old fashion was smooth. The service was superb! We never waited long on anything and everyone was friendly. This is a special occasion restaurant for us but it's well worth it. Can't wait for my next visit!! I did not do my homework. They have a parking lot but it's valet only. I don't think there's an additional charge for it, that's just how they handle parking. The outside is very plain and you would have no idea it's a restaurant. The waiting area is pretty small and they were VERY busy so make sure you have a reservation. Inside is pretty dark so pictures don't come out good. The hostess and server were so nice and they were fast. I had the onion rings and the ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes and a side of mushrooms. The onion rings were just ok. The small size was actually pretty big. The rings themselves were just a bit too thick for my liking. The mushrooms were also pretty good. The star of the show was the ribeye. It couldn't have been cooked more perfectly. I don't know what they cook it with but it was absolutely delicious. It was juicy and flavored just the right way. It didn't need any butter or anything and I think that might have taken away from the flavor of the steak. This place is pricy but I think it's totally worth it. read more

They survived the kitchen fire and recently reopened. We went Sunday night and pleased to report that they are back delivering the same great food in the same lovely space with the same great service. I did something that I never do in a meat forward restaurant- I ordered the entree-sized crab Louie - it was wonderful - an amazing sized plate- so when added to a very cold gin martini and onion-rings and a few samples of my partner's steak I took home enough for the next day's lunch. I never eat fish at a steak place but I did on Sunday and it was delicious. Happy to say that they not only survived the fire the returned as if nothing happened- love it! read more

The main course I had a perfectly medium rare steak that was very juicy and melted in my mouth with every bite. You can tell this is very high quality food, and while on the pricier side it's so worth it for the experience. What truly made our night was our server, Chadwick, he was exceptional. Attentive without being pushy, incredibly kind, and genuinely invested in making sure my night was amazing. He gave great recommendations and made the whole night personalized. Parking was fairly easy, if you didn't want to use the valet, a lot of street parking. But give yourself extra time just in case as we went late in the night. The space has an old school feel and well designed. We ordered the 20 oz. dry aged bone-in ribeye with chimichurri, crab cakes, onion rings, Brussels sprouts, and mushrooms. Almost every bite of steak was a bit too salty so maybe the chefs had an off night? I ordered it medium rare and some parts of the steak was rare, so inconsistently cooked too. The onion rings definitely lived up to the hype--it had an airy batter and the onion was almost al dente, soft but had a firm structure. Crab cakes were loaded with crab and creamy--pretty solid item. Mushrooms and brussels sprouts were fine, nothing special. Service was attentive and earned their money that night, checking in on us constantly and gave great descriptions and suggestions. They even gave us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary. The only part that bugged me was they didn't warn us before splitting our steak since I prefer to keep my steak whole. Then the bill came and we saw an $8 charge, which is standard at some places, but would've been nice if they warned us beforehand so we could opt out of it. We were treated like honored guests. The restaurant is designed with small areas of seating to give you a cozy feeling. There's a fireplace and a bar area as well. Ironically, this is known as a steakhouse and I don't eat meat. Their seafood options were spot on! The crab cakes were scrumptious and the shrimp cocktail was huge and delicious. When we rolled up and saw valet parking we knew this was going to be extra. (We didn't use it because we found street parking right in front, but still a cool feature to add to the luxurious vibe). We had a reservation, and we were a few minutes but we were still seated right away. Coat check was a nice gesture as well, as the seating didn't allow for much extra space. Our server, whom I am spacing on his name was incredible. Very attentive without being over bearing. We started with onion rings of course, and for the large you get a great amount. I was skeptical on the French/blue cheese dipping sauce that was served with them, but it somehow worked and was wonderful. I love onions and these were the best onion rings I have had. They serve real sour dough to the table as well, and it had a nice zip. We split 3 shareable vegetables, the Brussel sprouts, carrots and squash. All of them were a great amount and well executed. The smoked carrots were the fan favorite. Our table ordered prime rib, the salmon and fried chicken. Each plate was stunning, tidy and for the price a full plate. Going to "nicer" places often means a very small portion, but we all had lots of leftovers. Dessert was good, we tried the pumpkin cheese cake, the chocolate cake option and the toffee. I've heard people hype up this place for years and finally had a reason to visit for a birthday. I had high expectations for the food, but honestly, it didn't quite live up to the hype. We were mainly paying for the service and experience. The restaurant was too dark and I struggled to see the menu and the food. The tables were placed closely, creating a noisy environment where we could even hear someone snoring at one point. 5-star service, no doubt. A busboy accidentally spilled sauce on my partner's jacket, but the waiter and a manager quickly stepped in and handled it professionally. This was the moment I felt like the service actually justified the cost. They also accommodated the birthday person's food allergy by preparing a special sauce so he could still enjoy the dish. The food was ok. The onion rings were not special, just bigger. The bread was too salty for my taste. They kindly offered us free birthday treats (sorbet, chocolate, and crème brûlée), and out of the three, the crème brûlée was the best. The sorbet was way too sour. The lobster mashed potatoes and Caesar salad exceeded my expectations. Steak-wise, I've had better elsewhere. Our ribeyes had too much fat. My friend cut a huge amount of inedible fat out of his ribeye. My ribeye wasn't as bad but I still ate the whole thing due to how much it cost. Later that night, I woke up at 3 AM with severe stomach cramps and aftermath. The men's restroom has a weird design. There are no dividers between urinals, and one urinal is right next to the entrance. If someone is using it, that's the first thing you see when you open the door. We were celebrating my father's birthday and really appreciate that they offered him a complimentary Crème Brule. There was a charge we were NOT notified about. The bone in ribe eye was a but salty but the outside was nice and crisp. Husband loved it. We got the 20 oz bone in ribe eye. We were going to share it as we had ordered 2 appetizers (which was good because we couldn't even finish that). No where on the menu said there is a charge (8$) to split it. We actually did not ask for a split... the waiter asked if we would like for the kitchen to split it onto two different plates. Had we known it was an extra charge, we would have refused - my husband and I are fine with sharing a plate. Minus a star for that. When James Beard said these are the finest French fried onions; he was right! Small order was generously portioned and reheated perfectly in the oven at home. Served with catsup and house made sauce (thing thousand island with zing and bleu cheese crumbles), they live up to the hype. The rib eye had a great sear and was seasoned well. Perfectly medium rare and easily shared by two (even for the smallest cut for one). Their special cauliflower side was delish with toasted bread crumbs adding a crunchy texture. Prime rib was okay, the au jus was savory, and the Yorkshire pudding was a little on the dry side. The creme brûlée was most excellent! Our first time, coming from out of town. Made reservations a couple of months in advance. They called to confirm that day. We showed up on time, were seated right away, service was impeccable. 3 adults 1 child. We chose to share onion rings(so delicious big serving we did not finish) They also gave us dinner rolls, for our mains we had the 16 oz rib eye, lobster tail, baked spinach, mushrooms, and baked potato. They sliced the ribeye and the lobster so we could all share. More than enough food. So delicious! Had leftovers to take home. It was a lovely experience. We ordered the Ribeye for two and it was cooked to perfection. Medium rare and seasoned just right. Easy to cut and not overcooked like some places make the ends. We had the garlic mashed potatoes, rice, hollandaise sauce all on the side. For our apps we got the ring side onion rings (highly suggest!!) and the crab cakes which were delicious. The crème brûlée and cheesecake are amazing! We took dessert to go and I'm sure it would be even better in restaurant. This time we reluctantly skipped the onion rings and got the shrimp cocktail instead. Let me just say that I really really love the experience of going out to eat, I love charming the waitstaff, having a delicious meal, getting recommendations, and just overall having a nice evening with friends (30s F). I frequently travel JUST to try a restaurant i'm excited about. I was really excited to try this institution and to have an authentic and delicious steakhouse experience! Went for a birthday and was sat at a weird corner booth by a service station with a tv in line of sight from the bar, which isn't the biggest deal but kind of messed up the vibe. The table was also not very clean (that lamp had not been dusted in maybe years?) Our waiter was honestly one of the most humorless, most socially awkward people of all time and actually truly sucked the air out of the room every time he came over, it was insane. Tried joking around with him, tried softening up the vibe, but he would not bite at all. We had brief interactions with other people who brought out food and things and they all seemed so friendly and upbeat and nice! (Except the water-fillers, both of them looked like they wanted to d*e and also kill everyone in that restaurant). Lets break down the food: - Requested a dirty martini - received a martini with zero olive juice. Had a basil cocktail that was pretty good though. - "World famous omg you have to try these" onion rings were honestly just okay. Nearly unsalted, kind of bland. Saved by the dipping sauce. - Bread that the waitstaff said was "his favorite thing in the building" (crazy thing to say about the free bread but whatever) was mushy and honestly maybe a little stale? Sourdough baguette should be crunchy! - My ribeye was cooked PERFECTLY (shouts out), but was SO under-seasoned! PLEASE salt the steaks!!! I have honestly made better at home with a nice New Seasons steak and a cast iron, and that doesn't cost 90 dollars. - Highlights of the meal were the asparagus special and the mushrooms for sure (delicious). - Upgraded my side to the "truffle" cauliflower and..... idk what that was but that was not truffle. Dish tasted like plastic!! Actually gross. - Crab Louie was advertised as an entree which was deeply confusing to us, as it was actually a cold crab salad??? Put it in the salads section of the menu??? Maybe that's on us but we thought we were getting a hot crab dish. We ended up not even coming close to finishing or even eating half of anything that we ordered, and not once did anyone ask us if we were liking everything either :/ I probably would have kept my criticism light, but would have definitely sent that inedible cauliflower mess back (I think i've sent one thing back EVER in my life for the record). Combine all of that with the waiter making straight up weird comments about how much food we ordered ("no need for a salad course at all then hmm?" "That is a lot of sides." "I'll just take those unneeded salad forks away now" *rreeeeeaches over both of us to grab the fork that could have just stayed on the table??*) and also fussing constantly over the tableware, like please we were talking and now you're interrupting us JUST to have me HAND you the salad plate across the table. I'm all for steakhouses being a little pretentious, but maybe don't sit us in the crew / sports bar area, give us an undertaker for a waiter, and serve us cruise ship food then? The waitress was amazing! Jodie? I can't remember for sure. What I remember was everything was great except the steak. The apps were great! The salads and sides were very good. The chicken, fish, and prime rib were quite good! But the most expensive item on the ticket.... Not great. Don't spend the dough. Go there for everything else! read more

I've recommended RingSide to literally hundreds of people over the years, but after tonight, that's done. Messed up my wife's dinner, fair enough, mistakes happen, but then the supervisory waiter just treated us like we were scamming a free meal. Ruined the experience completely. The manager did nothing to try and make it right, so I guess I'm done paying a premium price for substandard food, no matter how nice our server was. Great place but post-COVID, a shadow of its former self. Sad.​ read more

Traditional, special place for a special occasion and worth the expense. Excellent service form the head waiter, Hank and his assisting crew. Polite, smooth, and attentive in a calm way. Food was wonderful, wines great and perfect for a special occasion. Ambiance was also perfect for celebrating something special too. read more

First time to go to this restaurant. Had reservations so no wait time. Interior is beautiful. I love dark wood and candlelight. The service was very good and the food was delicious. I had a Crab Louie. The onion rings are to die for!!! We will return. read more

For the price, I'm rating it a three. Ignore the price, it's a four. Great atmosphere. Completely conducive to a great night out. Staff is on point. Polite and thorough. Our water glasses never went below half. Drinks were ok at best. The cosmo was perfect. The Sapphire martini was average. Including all the chips of ice on top. Stuffed olives were tiny. I like to eat something with my martini. Filled right up to a fingers width from the rim. Nice three count if you ask me. The wedge salad was delicious so was the mixed green salad. Flavorful dressing and fresh produce. Don't persecute me just because I like my steaks cooked a bit more than some. But my medium well ribeye was RARE. I mean completely raw in the center. But only on half of the steak. They want you to cut it open when they bring it to you. I did that on the one half but the other half was rare. Weird. Very fatty piece of meat and not that tender really. What I cook at home is so much better and for the value. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection and was very tasty. But compared to a Costco steak that I cook on my Traeger...? I guess we're paying for more than just the steak. In the end, I'd rather stay in my pajamas and cook a good Costco steak at home. 1/4 of the price. That's just me. It was a great night out and I don't regret it at all. Given the reviews and the history I went in with high expectations but unfortunately left a bit disappointed. Let's start with the good: - service was impeccable: everything was tell timed, well balanced, and super considerate - drink selection: my brut rose was top notch and my husbands old fashioned was one of the best he has ever had - oysters were incredible - French onion soup - I really wish I hadn't left this for last as I ended up being too full to finish this Disappointments: - octopus was incredibly lack luster and the sauce it came in was not tasty - steak was cooked to perfection but almost felt as if it was boiled previously - mashed potatoes and onion rings were fine nothing incredible but not bad - outdoor seating, it felt like they just put up a tent and some tables. I highly recommend eating indoors as I do think that additional ambiance may have contributed to a higher score Overall I'd say come here if you're looking for an old school vibe with decent steak and great drinks. read more
