Very disappointing! Rio Chico has certainly gone downhill recently. They do not have Dos Equis, Modelo, or any dark beer on tap. Going to a Mexican restaurant and having to order a Bud Light, or other light beer, on tap is certainly disappointing. I understand that it's hard to get help in today's world, but the service was awful slow. We waited 10-15 minutes and no server showed up, so we had to walk over to the hostess table to say we would like to order drinks. We walked in a month ago to pick up a menu and they had a Mariachi band playing. A really nice and lively touch that they said they have 2x a month. We went back there to have lunch last weekend. We had tacos and a trio plate with chicken and steak as our choices. The chicken was not good at all. The food, including the rice and beans, just had no flavor. The margarita was good though. My boyfriend ordered an 1800 margarita, but was charged $18 for a don julio margarita. When he asked the server if he could change it to 1800 that he ordered the server replied that 1800, don julio, and hornitos are all the same price. We asked if he could change it to 1800 anyway to make us happy and he refused. We used to love coming here for drinks but will not be back as the servers try to take advantage of you. You mean to tell me that hornitos bottom shelf tequila is the same price as don Julio top shelf tequila? If so, this is just a bad business practice. If I could give this restaurant 10 stars I would. My family of 9 passing through this city dined here. There were no wait time we were immediately seated. Once our orders were put in we waited about 15 minutes until he came out with our food. Everything was hot and delicious! You get your money's worth and the serving of food can feed 2 people. The waiter checked on us regularly. The staff was very friendly. The atmosphere is nice and the restaurant was very clean including the restroom. We will definitely visit this location again. With family in town, we decided this was a good opportunity to try this new place. We went on a Sunday night, and it was moderately crowded. The food was okay. The first batch of chips was a bit stale but the second batch, freshly made and served warm, were very good. The salsa was pleasantly spicy and the queso dip complemented it well. I ordered a enchilada and chimichanga, and it was good. (I wish the cheese was melted a bit better though---that's pretty important in an enchilada). Others said the food could have used a bit more flavor and spice. Service was very friendly and personal, but it seemed that at times the staff wasn't sure who was supposed to do what. We will likely give Rio Chico another try and hope that the kinks will have been worked out by then. read more

There's no way to describe the experience at Rio Chico other than abysmal. There is clearly a severe lack of organization and something very very wrong going on here. After waiting over 40 minutes, we received the first meal. 10 minutes later, the guacamole salad for my girlfriend's fajitas arrived. 15 minutes later, the actual fajitas arrived. We were given a pathetic excuse for salsa verde for the inconvenience. The flavors and preparation of the actual food were incomprehensibly bad. The rice was cold, dry, and flavorless. The sacrifice of the animal was disgraced by the seasoning and cooking of the meat. Top all of this off with no music, and a sterile interior. When we complained, they were kind, but we waited 15 minutes for someone to actually come to the table, who wasn't the manager. We said we did not want to pay, but that we wanted to be able to leave a tip for the waitress. We waited another 20 minutes for him to tell us we would receive a 50% discount. We insisted on only paying for half of one of the dishes to leave a tip. We waited again for him to talk to the "manager" who never came over. Finally we had to get up from the table, and walk to the host stand to make something happen. We received the bill and it was still full price for the one meal. I will start this review by saying I LOVE Mexican food. I eat it VERY often and I'm a frequent visitor if it's delicious. This food was not. This food was basic at best. I think the seasoning chef was off or on break when I went because nothing was seasoned. I ordered a chicken burrito the chicken was extremely dry. I also ordered a ground beef enchilada and I couldn't finish it the taste was off putting. The hot wings were made fresh but had it not been for the blatant hot sauce there would have been no flavor. My lunch mate ordered the shrimp fajitas and they weren't seasoned either. Overall it just didn't have any flavor. Authentic or otherwise. Super disappointed because I will be working across the street from them and I was excited to be able to walk there on my lunch breaks. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!! The food and service were terrible. Ordered online and picked up. Had to wait almost 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. Several items were missing from our order including one whole meal, tortillas to go with an order of fajitas, chips with the dip, the second order of dip and the chips for it. Didn't notice what was missing due to the way the items were packaged. Got home and the fish tacos were inedible so they went straight in the trash. Called and got transferred to someone claiming to be the owner who said he'd refund our card for the one missing meal. Really?? Our rice and beans arrive with a message that our fajitas would be out shortly. Our fajitas arrive with a message that our tortillas would be delivered by our waitress. Our waitress is no where to be found and eventually I am forced to go look for her and find her helping people at another table. So the manager gets us our tortillas and we are told there are no separate plates to roll our fajitas. You place the tortilla over the rice and beans. There are no serving utensils for the fajitas which have stuck to the bottom of the skillet by now. FYI, by now, I have also ordered a different beer. I also asked for a lime and was told I would be charged extra for it. At this point, I look around the restaurant and notice diners in large groups enjoying themselves. Families out with their children. Soccer teams celebrating and enjoying each other's company. Neighborhood groups gathering for a meal. They were not there for date night or fine dining. My eyes glance down at the floor and I see the remnants of the day's past meals crunch under my shoes and decide Rio Chico should post a sign at the door, couples beware, this restaurant is not for you. We took friends to try this restaurant right after they opened for business. We've both travelled extensively to Mexico and love the food in all the regions. We also love the people of Mexico so we were delighted to find Rio Chico. We ordered several things on the menu including specialties, Carnitas Enmolades, Bistec con Mariscos, Parilla Mexicana, Enchilada Mexicana, Mariscos Tulense and a Mexican Pizza. We also ordered bean dip, chodi-queso dip and guacamole to start. The waitress served the guacamole and chips, forgot the queso, brought the bean dip 20 minutes after we began eating and it had spilled all over the service plate. No clean up and it was unappetizing to look at. Then 35 minutes after ordering we finally got our entrees, 2, then 1, then 2, then 1 so that by the time we finally we all served the first served had cold food. The pizza sat in sauce and grease that left the flour tortilla wet with no crispy crunch as promised in the menu description. The mole sauce was nothing more than a slightly spiced tomato sauce and not the Mexican chocolate mole we were hoping for. The shrimp were small and rubbery, the scallops were overdone and dry. The refried beans were unlike any refried beans I had eaten anywhere in Mexico and left us wondering who the cook was because no chef would have allowed that to leave a kitchen! Most of the food was inedible and the only thing we felt when we left was indigestion from grease and we were still hungry. I have no idea if their food and service has improved because we have no intention of returning or recommending to our friends. In our opinion there is only one good Mexican restaurant in Bluffton/Hardeeville and that is Mi Tierra in downtown Bluffton. read more
