Wood fired pizza with ricotta and meatballs

We ordered takeout from Ripieno's during our recent trip to OCMD. One of my friends called in the order and it was ready soon after our arrival (about 20 minutes or so). I was surprised to see that they shared a parking lot and perhaps ownership with the Burger King next door. Our receipt was from BK. We ordered a wood fired pizza with ricotta and meatballs. I swear to you that I cannot get it out of my mind now that we've returned home. Seriously delish! We'll be back this summer for more Ripieno's for sure!

We were shocked at not just the size but also the flavor of our Italian roast beef and antipasto salad. These sandwiches- even the small ones- aRe HUGE- the most roast beef in a sandwich I've ever seen. Example- I ate 1/4 of the antipasto salad and asked for a to go box!

Ripieno's is a casual, family-friendly Italian-American restaurant located on Philadelphia Avenue in Ocean City. It's open Monday through Thursday from 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM, and until 10:00 PM on Friday and Saturday. It's been awhile since I've truly had a great pizza. After hearing nothing but rave reviews about the wood-fired pies at Ripieno's, I knew I had to give it a try. Let me start by saying the ingredients were fresh and full of flavor. The sauce and cheese were both excellent, but unfortunately, the crust didn't live up to expectations. It was one of the floppiest pizzas I've ever had, with zero crisp. The texture reminded me a bit of Neapolitan-style pizza, charred edges, but no crunch. That being said, the restaurant was incredibly busy during my visit, so it's possible the pizza was rushed. From what I've heard, though, this isn't the usual standard.

We tried Ripienos while visiting and ended up going back two days in a row--that's how good it is. The food is seriously top-notch. Everything tastes fresh, high quality, and made with real care. And honestly, for how good it is, the prices are very reasonable. The consistency really stood out too--both visits were just as perfect as the first. Huge shoutout to Stephanie and Hanna--they are awesome. So personable, welcoming, and they really made the experience even better. Hands down, probably the best pizza I've had. If you're in the area, this place is a must.

Spicy Italian, meatball sub and broccoli rabe pizza.

Hard to spot from Coastal Hwy because it's in the back side of Burger King but it's a small, eat in and outside place with amazing food. We got an 11" meatball sub, an 11" spicy Italian sub and a 16" broccoli rabe pizza. All were enormous, delicious and freshly made. Casual but exceptional food!

As you can see all the meats thin out from center to none existent at the ends. Flavor is good, it's just a lot of money for what you get.

Revisited yesterday after quite a while. Had a Stromboli and some cookies. Both very good. Will start to add back into the rotation.

Ripienos continues to be our favorite pizza place at the beach. Not only the pizza is unbelievable, but the other dishes rock your world with flavor. I think this even beats the Italian food back home in Baltimore.

Dang! So good! Got the 16" pepperoni pie w extra sauce on the side, a Greek salad and 2 canoli. Pizza was done on time, and tastes fantastic. Large pepperoni slices and great flavor in the sauce. Salad was plenty big, covered w w capers and feta. Also delicious. The cannoli won't last much longer- they look amazing!

If you're on the market for pizza, this is it. It does not get any better. This is the definition of wood oven pizza. Beware of telling them "large"... sunglasses for reference in the pic. 10/10 - will tell a friend.

16-inch margarita pizza. Cold and soggy!!!

We ordered the 16-inch margarita pizza and 10-inch cheese pizza. We arrived 31-min after we called as we were told 30 min wait time. I had to wait another 5-min to get food. No problem. We get back to our hotel (7-min drive) and open the pizza and the margarita pizza is completely cold, cheese is stiff and crust is soggy (real soggy) and yes I know fresh mozzarella does put off water but this was out of control. However, our 10-inch pizza was really good. Hot, fresh and crispy crust. What it seems to me is they had a pizza they need to get rid of and pawned it off on me. They had to fresh make our cheese pizza. My family eats a lot of pizza and the nature of this margarita pizza, it had to be setting no less than 2 hours before I received it. Extremely unsatisfied as this place was rated really high. Guess moral of the story is check your food before walking out if you go here.

Once again, this place is FIRE!! We ordered our go to pepperoni and did not disappoint! We love how perfectly cooked and well balanced the flavors are. Sauce isn't too sweet and the extra shaved parmesan cheese completes it. Pizza was ready within 15 minutes of ordering at 6:30 at night. That is a busy time for sure as the tables had people in them and others waiting to order in line when we came to pick up. Always a good sign whenever there's a crowd! I'll be back for a shirt (gotta support the best restaurant ) and a Philly cheese steak before we leave this trip. This place stays on my GO TO list!

We decided to try this place based on reviews. It was ok but the Philly steak and cheese lacked flavor. The place was small but you still had seating. The service was ok the girl was definitely ready to get off though and that's understandable. I'd like to try the pizza but it probably won't happen this trip. read more

We got takeout from here after arriving in later than expected from Philly and thought it looked decent. The cheesesteak was delish and better than some of the ones I've tried throughout the city. The pizza was a huge disappointment. Don't get me wrong, crust was great but I ordered a Bianco thinking it was white with a bit of herbs. I specifically asked the guy on the phone if it involved pesto or a white garlic sauce and he said it was garlic sauce. The entire pizza is pesto sauce. I know it says herb bruschetta but it was pure pesto. Wish I'd known he was incorrect before getting a whole pesto pizza. read more

I would definitely give this place another try. I think today they were over whelmed big ups to the young curly haired girl who was practicing good customer service. My husband asked a very simple question, and I could have done with out ole girl and attitude (another employee) he was just wondering about the sandwich size. That was strike one. My daughter ordered a roast beef sandwich and apparently the line Cook didn't know how to make the sandwich. Rather than tell us, they let almost 25 minutes go by while my child waits to eat, Strike 2. I needed up Giving her half my sandwich which was really really good!! She liked it, despite being bummed about her sandwich. She was happy. Like I said I would go back and split an 11 inch with someone read more

Hits the spot! One-half meatball sub was huge and delicious. Big enough that we split it among three of us. And that's the half sub. Next time we will try to pizza. Couldn't believe the size of their large pizza. Unusual set up attached to a Burger-King which faces the road. So many times I've past it and didn't realize it is there. A hidden gem! read more

Unfortunately there is an incredibly rude grumpy and racist elderly lady that works at the cash register. Only reason I am saying this is because while waiting for our food sitting in the seats to eat I asked her for plates and Marinara sauce and she decided to change our order to go. Then argued w me at the front saying for us to leave and take it to go. Then she kept insisting that I told her I wanted it to go when we NEVER would and make this statement. She was also rude to my 71 year old dad and raised her voice at my dad to take out the credit card from the card reader. There were other white family's and behind us 4 American kids and was polite to them and brought their food to them but REFUSED to bring us our pizza since I asked her for plates to eat there. We came because my younger brother saw good reviews but unfortunately it ONLY depends on the race. Any Asian families BE WARNED about the grumpy rude lady. Also AC was broken. She told a very sweet younger lady to give our pizza to go in a box and told us to leave when I did nothing but be kind in the beginning. We come every year and explore different restaurants and we tried Ripieno's back to back years and 1st year was amazing when there were polite employees that were very professional. read more

Food and service were excellent. Only reason for 4 stars is the price and the entree. Even though our wait was over an hour it was well worth it. We had a Stromboli and our preference would have been less mozzarella and no ricotta. Otherwise is was delicious read more

Well I can't even rate the review because I can't even order food. The phone just rings and rings and rings so I decided to go there and try to order. Low and behold, the staff just stands there and lets the phone just ring and no one cares to pick up. Then, the people that work there literally have no pep in their step and are quite frankly rude as hell. I try to order food and the girl just stares at me while I'm ordering and she goes "what did you say" ... ALSO let's not forget, there is no menu online and if you try to go to the website it's pinos pizza????? So we order, and then they say 20 minutes for subs and an hour for pizza. We forego the pizza and get the subs and after 25 mins they say it is going to be another 20 minutes. So after an hour and a half later we get our food and the people literally don't even hand it to us and they place it on the counter and turn around as they fully know we are pissed and waiting. These people have zero idea to what they are doing and quite frankly can't get out of their own way. The girls at the front, including the manager are so immature, unprofessional, and flat out rude - and this includes the kitchen staff yelling at each other. This owner should truly be ashamed of themselves and they should fire every person in that place and start over because you can't get much worse than what that. read more

Get the giant pizza...size does matter! It's impressive, and as an added bonus, it tastes great too! They do not offer delivery, and I had to use my trunk to transport the giant. Eat here, it's good. read more

This pizza was so good. We called in our order over the phone and ordered the broccoli rabe and onion rings, however they called back a short time later to tell us they didn't have any bechamel sauce!! We were disappointed but ordered a cheese pizza with half hot sausage instead. We picked it up and it was ready very quickly. The store has some seating but not a lot. The pizza was really good and the slices were big and cheesy. The onion rings were also crispy and delicious. I would definitely recommend for pizza in OC. read more

No! No! No! Do not believe the hype. This place has very good reviews. We did not try the pizza which looked good. The sandwich and salad were so bad...most likely will not come back to try the pizza. I went to get lunch today....it is off season and it is raining. This usually means that you can get in and get out with what you want. I did not order before I arrived...my mistake. I showed up because I wanted to see the menu and look at the food. It is a foodie strategy that works for me sometimes. Today not so much. My husband wanted an Italian hoagie. I looked a round and the salads looked fresh....so grilled chicken salad for me. The girl behind the counter told me it would be 30 minute wait. Ok...weird....but I took a drive and ran an errand. I can back about 40 minutes later. Still no food. So I waited for another 20 minutes. The people behind the counter seemed confused and it was not that busy. After waiting over an hour, I thought I would have had freshly grilled chicken on my salad. NO! I had chicken that was grilled at least a day or more ago. The house salad dressing was flavorless am mostly oil. My husbands sandwich was placed in a plastic container and was just not good. What was served cannot be called a hoagie. It was just a bad sandwich. Those hoagie connoisseurs out there know that hoagies are wrapped in butcher paper. I yelp regularly and I pride myself of portraying my experiences accurately. The bulk of the reviews are so positive that I cannot understand how my experience can be so far to the contrary. Wood fired pizza , mouthwayering huge slices ! Good char , smoky taste . A little floppy but thouroughly cooked. We had a basic cheese pie and could not be more impressed. Good prices and tons of selections as far as other selections. If you think you have had better , you'd be wrong. Its a hidden gem behind the burger king in O.C. We were very pleased. Pizza is superb - I had personal pizza, cheese with red onions and mushrooms, thickly grated parmigiana on top. Wish it had been hotter but I loved it all: just right crust, sauce with a very slight sweetness, lots of cheese. Just a few tables for eating in. Steady line of people ordering and picking up. Takes 25 minutes for pizza to be ready. read more

Stopped by this pizza place on a whim and we are so happy we did! Hands down some of the best pizza I've had in a while. The sauce and cheese ratio was amazing. The added grated slices of parmigiano? (Not sure honestly) added a whole new flavor. Pizza was fairly priced for the size we got (18") We did not sit in the eating area but it looked inviting and very clean! Staff was very friendly! Literally the best pizza I've ever had. I'm not making this up. I ate it leftover on vacation and I NEVER eat leftovers ESPECIALLY on vacation. The wood fired crust - so good! The fresh parmigiana on top - perfect. I definitely only ordered the 28inch for the novelty of it and to impress my children. It was an extreme amount of pizza and we've been eating it for lunch for days. The staff was also super friendly and you don't always get that in oc. Anytime I do, I appreciate it. Finally, the value was incredible. We spent $36. That's by far the cheapest meal of the week! read more

I wasn't feel good one night so just decided to order in and and get pizza. Price was good for the size of pizza we ordered, but man it was SO GREASY which caused the slices of pizza to fall apart as your eating it. It would have been SO much better if it wasn't so greasy. Best food in Ocean City, MD (at least that I've had)!! Being the foodie that I am, a part of me lacked thrill in going to Ocean City because I thought the food in the area was mostly mediocre, but I can now look forward to a meal at Ripieno's when I'm down at the beach! I'm not even one to go for Italian food by default. I've always thought that most Italian restaurants were nothing special. But this was super quality food that definitely stands out in my book! My family of four ordered a 16" pizza and the Ripieno's steak sandwich. We still had leftovers! Generally speaking, their portion sizes are huge, so when in doubt, size down! The price is also very reasonable considering the portion sizes and quality. The pizza was top notch, and the steak sandwich was robustly filled with delicious onions, peppers, and mushrooms. It was a real winner for us!! We ordered takeout, as they didn't have dining because of COVID. I highly recommend this place for top quality Italian food if you're in Ocean City!! read more

Love this place. We ate here twice in the week we were here. Got a sausage and pepperoni pizza 16" and it was delicious. The next time we went in we tried the Italian hoagie and they were also great. Great price and good quality. read more

5/18/22 - First time at this place, went for the "Wood Fired" pizza. Well, yes there is a piece or two of wood in the Gas fired oven but the taste of the wood in the crust was missing. That being said the pizza was good, just wouldn't brag about the wood fired - jmo. Place is Very Clean & the staff is super friendly. Prices are very good value for what you get. We went two days in one week - Day one had small plain pizza, and wife had a Turkey / Avacado Club sandwich - Both were excellent! Day two - Had Pizza Steak Sub, Meatball side (had an eg on top!) and a Grilled Chicken Cesar salad - the Meatball was ok (made well, just not to my liking) but the two subs were excellent! Drinks are $2.00 w/ Free refills! Great place for a inexpensive meal - we will return on our next visit to Ocean City..... read more

First time visit and could not have been more happy! This place rocks! First off, the staff was amazing. There was a nice lady working the register who greeted us upon arrival and then proceeded to fill the ice maker with 4 big buckets of ice on a step ladder, then cleaned the tables and greeted more customers...she never stopped! Best work ethic I've seen in years! Didn't get her name but she had a 1979 tattoo on her arm. Now the food. The pizza was one of the best I've ever had! Fantastic crust and toppings. Could not have been happier! My daughters meatball and spaghetti was right up her alley. The single meatball was the size of a babies head! Why can't more restaurants be like this one?!? read more

My kids come here anytime we are down. This place is in walking distance from or place which makes it very convenient and the kids love it. We order here all the time and as a New Yorker I can attest that this is good pizza. The 28" pie is huge. This will feed 8 people easy. The pie itself is an experience. If your in the area and looking for good pizza do not hesitate to come here. read more

Attached to Burger King, you almost miss this place. But, shame on you if you do! We ate here three times during our vacation. Best pizza I ever ate. We also tried the roast beef sub, it was to die for. If you are at OC, you must try this place. I was trying to convince the owner to open a place in Pittsburgh where I live. read more

Came to Ocean City on a whim today. Researched Ripieno's online. Walked in, mentioned I was first-timer, and I was greeted warmly by all 3 staff at the counter. I went to order today and I noticed the food preparers were not wearing masks per COVID regulations. The manager (Kirby) said since they were only doing carry out, masks were not required for food preparers. I cancelled my order and left. According to Maryland Dept of Health (https://phpa.health.maryland.gov/OEHFP/OFPCHS/Shared%20Documents/COVID-19/COVID-19%20Food%20Safety%20FAQs%2006.19.20_final.pdf) this is illegal. Page 6 says: Do staff in Foodservice Establishments have to wear face coverings in the rear cooking and preparation areas of a restaurant if not interacting with customers? Yes, all food service establishments shall require all staff to wear face coverings unless it is not safe to do so, as defined in the Face Coverings Order (Executive Order 20-04-15-01). It's unfair to compare this pizza to New York style. We are spoiled back home in the tristate area. The pizza has a ways to go but their efforts aren't going unnoticed. Love the pizza it's awesome and fresh and best part the month of October it's 5.00. Parry made us a cheese steak which was delicious Philly style. Olivia made our visit pleasant with helpful advice about the cannolis. Parry and Olivia are a great asset to the restaurant. Welcoming and friendly. Oh yeah the cannolis are amazing. My favorite Italian place in OCMD! Their wood-fired pizzas are always made to perfection! The sauce is just about right but the toppings can go unlimited! Their Antipasti salad was amazing as well! A must try! read more

Was skeptical but had the cheesesteak and a meatball subs and both were amazing went back the next day for pizza and Italian sun and they nailed it again, might drive down to OC again just to go there. read more
